community-creations-logo

Hello once again everyone! Spotted Dragon here bringing you the January recap for Community Creations! January’s theme was Time Travel and the featured work is not in any particular order. Be sure to check out all the featured artists!

No clue whatโ€™s going on? Go see our intro post.

Top 5 Picks

Steampunk Time Traveler by Wild Eagle

Very cool costume design! I could definitely see this character traveling through time. And in style, too! I’m a sucker for a nice steampunk outfit either way. The greens of this costume work well together, keeping in tune with the other neutral hues. He might get stopped by the time police, but certainly not the fashion police! Well done! Find them often in the comments section.

Perks of Being a Time Traveler by NineTenOnetyOne

Ah, the struggles of being a time demon. I’m sure we can all relate to that… right? Anyway, the humor in this comic is fantastic, present in the dialog, expressions, and even the details of the newspaper. The panels really do tell a short story, and they wonderfully feature a great set of historical figures. The character design is great! Find her DeviantArt here.

The End of Time by iLeeFont

Oooh, a cool take on our theme! Though most of us jump to Time Tangled Island when we hear of Poptropica being paired with time travel, that’s not the only place you can find Poptropicans messing with history! Featuring the beloved characters of the Poptropica graphic novel series, this piece displays fantastic emotion and composition. The artist’s style is very recognizable, and colors are certainly used to their advantage in this one. I especially love the harsh geometric background contrasting the more organic figures. Excellent! Find their DeviantArt here.

The Future by BlazingAngel123

Aye, a throwback piece! Both in when it was drawn and what it’s about, huh? Time Tangled Island is obviously a classic for time travel within Poptropica, and rightfully so. It was always fascinating to see our Poptropican grow old in the future, both in the good and not-so-good settings. These panels perfectly capture the emotion of both timelines, and was originally posted in a gif form on the artist’s profile (not shown here for eye-strain). I even love how the backgrounds for each scene are simple, but easily recognizable. Wonderful character design! Find her DeviantArt here.

Time Tangled by LilPoptrystalTemp

Another classic Time Tangled design! On the island, our Poptropicans travel to many different historical periods. And that’s difficult to capture in one design, not to mention one outfit! Now that I’m thinking about it, I probably looked really out of place in Ancient Rome in my blue hoodie… Anyway, this piece is able to capture exactly that: the various outfits of the time periods on a single figure! I love that the circular division of the composition mimics that of the watch we use on the island as well. Super cool! Find her DeviantArt here.

No honorable mentions this month guys, sorry! Keep those submissions coming next month. ๐Ÿ˜‰ To make it up to you, have an old drawing of mine featuring Spotted Dragon’s own Time Tangled mishaps:

My Place in Poptropica: Icy Tooth

This is the My Place in Poptropica story of Icy Tooth, whose discoveries of progress saving and island guides fueled his enthusiasm for Poptropica. See below for details on how to send in your MPIP story to be published here on the PHB!

Hi! I’m Icy Tooth, and today I’ll be sharing my story of coming to Poptropica!

A rainy school day

It all started back in 2009, on a rainy school day where we were given free time on the computers. My friends and I had no idea what to do when it was our turn on the computers… until I spotted a boy playing a game. It looked really cool, so I asked him what it was.

“Oh, this is Poptropica,” he said. Poptropica โ€” it had a nice ring to it, so I decided to try it out with a few other friends. We all got on, entered the game, and soon, we were hooked. I even remember thinking, how had I not found out about this game sooner?

I looked at all the islands and saw that the boy who’d been playing first was playing Shark Tooth Island, so I decided to play the same one as him. Interacting with the characters was so cool, and the costumes were just awesome. I didn’t even know how to save my account yet.

Making progress

When I got back home from school that day, I decided to search the game up and play it some more. That’s when I found out you could save your account. I was mind-blown by the fact that you could save your progress! And so I kept playing.

Now I was playing Time Tangled Island and I was stuck. I just didn’t know what to do! So I searched up how to complete the island, and that’s how I found the Poptropica Help Blog. Thanks to this amazing website, I finally figured out how to finish the island! As I kept on playing, I would keep checking the Poptropica Help Blog for guides on new islands whenever they were released.

Lost and found

At some point I just forgot about Poptropica, and for a year, I didn’t play. Since I hadn’t written down my password and username, and don’t remember it, I lost all the progress on my first account.ย  ย  ย  ย

When I finally picked up Poptropica again a year later in 2011, I made a new account: wewewe2575 (because wewewe was already taken). Nowadays, this is the username I use for games I play, and it all started with Poptropica. This time, I make sure to check in every day, so that I won’t lose my account ever again.

Anyway, I’ve learned a lot from Poptropica and the Poptropica Help Blogโ€”so thank you.

Hope you enjoyed this โ€œMy Place in Poptropicaโ€ story! If you did, you’ll probably enjoy our other MPIP stories here on the PHB.

If you havenโ€™t already, weย invite you toย send in your own. Please include your username and at least 500 words, typed with good spelling and grammar, and divided into labeled sections. If you send in your story, we will continue to post newย community MPIPs!

Interested in writing for the PHB under a different Pop-topic? Take a look at our Write for the PHB page for ideas, guidelines, and more. Weโ€™d love to hear from you!

Now it’s time for cake!

Good day, Poptropicans! Hope it’s going deliciously delightful!

Earlier this week, the Pop Creators posted an Instagram story asking users to decide which cake flavor is superior: vanilla or chocolate?

The winning flavor is chocolate, earning nearly two-thirds of the overall votes! Chocolate cake is good and all, but that slice of vanilla cake has sprinkles. I’m having a hard time choosing my favorite.

This cake discussion recently moved to the Creators’ Blog as well. Although the post does not have an official poll, users can still place their votes in the comments section. Aside from setting up this delectable debate, the post also mentioned something to look forward to tomorrow…

costume-contest-Facebook

…the fact that the winners of the second Poptropica Costume Contest will be announced this Friday! Very soon, we will find out which lucky Poptropica fan gets their design made into an in-game costume. Stay tuned to find out the results!

Thank you for reading, and have a good day!

Choices and compliments in the Year of the Rat

Happy Lunar New Year, Poptropicans! ๐Ÿงง๐ŸŽŠ๐Ÿฒ ๆญๅ–œ็™ผ่ฒก!

Starting today, we’re ushering in the Year of the Rat, one of the twelve animals in the calendar cycle of the Chinese zodiac. ๐Ÿ€

Poptropica has joined in the festivities too, with a blog post featuring a big, sorta creepy-looking rodent, and dropping slight hints about what’s to come. (Editor’s note about their picture: Lunar/Chinese New Year certainly begins on the 25th this year, but is celebrated for days afterward!)

This Saturday marks the start of year 4718 of the Chinese calendar, the Year of the Rat!

We’re wishing you guys the best of luck in the coming year, and we’re looking forward to it ourselves! Some big game updates are on the horizon, and we’ll be posting more details about them soon, as well as the results of the art contest!! Stay tuned!

Hmm… “big game updates”… vague but promising. The results of the art contest (the costume design contest, which ended earlier this week) are something more concrete to look forward to, at least!

Also on the blog, Poptropica recently put out a poll asking the all-important question, “Where do you play Poptropica?”, specifically, “phone or computer?” If you haven’t answered yet, you can still cast your vote or change it with a click on the poll post. These are the results as of now:

Out of 650+ votes, the majority (76%) say they play Poptropica on the computer, while almost a fifth (20%) say they play on both, and the remaining minority (6%) are on team phone. Taking the “both” vote into account, that’s 94% who play on the computer and 24% on mobile.

Are you surprised by the results? Do you think this justifies Poptropica’s efforts into building for the newer and ever-rising frontier of mobile gaming, or should they spend more focus on just the desktop game? (Though, with current tech, one probably relates to the other.) Sound off your thoughts in the comments!

This past Friday, January 24 was also Compliment Day, an occasion not quite as historically established as the Lunar New Year but nevertheless also celebrated by Poptropica.

They put out a post with a drawing featuring Myron van Buren giving a friendly compliment to fellow (Pelican Rock?) prison inmate Dr. Hare on just how perfectly evil his vibes are, along with a note of encouragement for all Poptropicans to say a kind word to one another. Good vibes only, y’all. โœŒ๏ธ

Today is Compliment Day! Say something nice to your fellow Poptropican, and let’s show each other how much we appreciate one another! You never know when a small kind word could make someone’s day.

So on that note, here’s a compliment for you, dear reader: great choice of reading material today by being here on the PHB!

But seriously, you matter to us, and to the communities you’re a part of, whether they’re your family, friends, or the collective of Poptropicans on the internet. We’re super grateful that you’re here, and we hope you’ll journey on with us into the coming year as we see what’s next for Poptropica! โœจ

God save the king

Hello, everybody, it’s Lucky Joker here! Today I’ll be guiding you through yet another advertisement that can be found on Home Island.

The featured ad this time around promotes the newly released Disney Channel comedy horror series, The Owl House โ€” which is about a teenage girl who stumbles into a fantasy world and pursues her dream of becoming a witch. I’ve heard the reviews are great, so you might want to check it out. I think I’ll give it a whirl myself!

Okay, anyway, head inside and talk to Eda. She’ll give you her staff, and you’ll be redirected to the mini game. You needn’t worry, it’s pretty easy.

The mission is to save King. To do that, owl you got to do is move your mouse from left to right, dodging the dive bombing demon attacks without losing all your lives. You have 5 of them, so be careful!

Once you manage to successfully keep King from being stolen, you’ll receive your very own King Friend Follower and Flying Staff. Yes, you can actually fly on it! Pretty neat, huh?

Well folks, that’s all for today. Don’t forget to tune in to new episodes of The Owl House every Friday on Disney Channel and to check up on the PHB for fun posts coming soon.

As always, thank you for reading and I’ll talk to you in the next one. Pop on!
