Pop YouTuber Spotlight: Dimension Bros ๐Ÿ“บ

Hey Poptropicans! It’s been a while since we’ve spotlighted YouTubers playing Poptropica, but there’s a new duo on the scene with plenty of Pop (and other fandoms) to share. Meet Dimension Bros, Isaac and Theo!

Rather than show gameplay, these bros sit in front of their cameras and talk about a topic related to the Poptropica universe, sometimes throwing in relevant pictures. Here’s one of their recent videos where they discuss “The Current Poptropica Situation” in regards to loss of islands, whether the Poptropica team are evil capitalists for the membership paywall, and more:

They also raise the question of what will happen to our Flash accounts since they are currently separate from Haxe, a concern that is relevant for all of us nostalgic players with plenty of old items and costumes that may not be converted to Haxe, perhaps due to time, manpower, or both.

Also, hey, there’s a shoutout to the PHB starting around 7:20! It’s in response to our sharing of Theo’s Reddit post showing what Poptropica support said when asked about the membership paywall situation on the old Flash islands. Although the PHB may not warrant as big of a freakout as if we were Poptropica itself, it’s still a fun moment in the video. ๐Ÿ˜„

The first Dimension Bros video released, only about a month ago, is a masterpiece of research entitled “The Poptropica Timeline.” ๐ŸŒ

Here, Isaac and Theo consider when in the world’s historical timeline all the islands may have taken place and put them in chronological order while trying to keep with the Poptropica canon. It’s a bit like our PHB post on World Geography with Poptropica Islands, but with history. Check it out:

As of this posting, Dimension Bros have one other Poptropica video entitled “Making Our Own Poptropica Islands.” Here, they share about many of the ideas they have for Poptropica islands, including Rockstar Mystery Island, Quarantine Island, Cryptids Island 2, and more. ๐Ÿฆ• Hear ’em out:

Pretty creative stuff! Looks like there will be more to come from this channel, which has both Poptropica and non-Poptropica content, so keep watching and consider subscribing to Dimension Bros on YouTube.

Stay awesome, Poptropicans! โœจ

YouTubers & Pop: thanks for the carrot yanks ๐Ÿฅ•

Hey Poptropicans! Slanted Fish here, bringing you the latest batch of fascinating takes on Poptropica from various YouTubers. Let’s watch! ๐Ÿ“น

First up, in a heartwarming, nostalgic thank-you video letter addressed to the Pop Creators, bchili pays tribute to the legacy of Poptropica and all the fun times it brought to her childhood and those of our generation. She talks about how the game stands out for the stories it tells and reminisces about various moments in the game. Thanks for the throwbacks, bchili!

Next, we have a Poptropica review from a first-time adult player, Billiam. (The Poptropica part starts about 40 seconds into the video, and you may also want to jump to the 2:58 mark to skip the ad.) His verdict for the game: surprisingly fun (though the platforming struggles are real!). Discovering clues to advance in island missions drives the player’s interest, he explains, and it’s this storytelling aspect that makes Pop stand out from other Flash games.

And finally, here’s a comically strange short clip from Jaynautic, a 16-year-old who got dolled up like Dr. Hare. While wandering around a suburban neighborhood looking for carrots to steal, he finds one in particular that looks decidedly not like a carrot… see for yourself!

Rediscovering Poptropica in 2019

You who are loyal readers of the blog have probably been with Poptropica for some time, but for others in 2019, Poptropica was a childhood pastime they’ve only recently rediscovered. In fact, this demographic has even been inspired to create videos highlighting their rediscovery experience!

Take Diamondbolt, for exampleโ€”he’s a YouTuber who makes videos about video games and cartoons, and in his rediscovery video, he talks about how, as a child, Poptropica stood out as one of the best games. Watch him play through 24 Carrot, Super Power, and Reality TV Island with the commentary of someone who’s been able to appreciate Poptropica’s wit over time:

Another rediscovery video comes from JWhisp, a YouTuber who mostly plays Minecraft. Unlike Diamondbolt, who tried to create the ugliest character he could, JWhisp aims to make a “pretty hot-looking character.” With that setup, he heads into the Arcade and tries out some of the newer games, Poptastic and Crash-n-Bash, before making his way to Monkey Wrench Island. Watch him play and try to figure things out:

There are plenty more rediscovery videos to be found on YouTubeโ€”if you’re interested, just search “Poptropica” with more recent time filters (uploaded within a week, for example).

What did you think of the videos? Know anyone older who you might want to reintroduce Poptropica to? Share your thoughts in the comments!

YouTubers AwesomeTheSauce, Gaming Grape take on Poptropica

Hey Poptropicans, check out the cameraโ€”new vids are popping up!ย ๐ŸŽฅ

Some of you might remember from last December when two popular YouTube channels, EthanGamerTV and DanAndPhilGAMES, streamed some Poptropica gameplay with personal commentary. While these guys have yet to make a Pop comeback, recently two more gaming channels have decided to take on our beloved Poptropica.

First, there’s AwesomeTheSauce, who started a Poptropica series in June and has so far gone through Shark Toothย (“#1: Getting Stereotyped in POPTROPICA?!”), Early Poptropica (“#2: I’m A Pig Killer Confirmed?!”), and most recently Reality TV (“#3: This REALITY TV Grandpa is EVIL”), the latter of which is below. The video titles may give you an indication of his humor style, and there is some mild language. If intrigued, check it out:

With a few Poptropica videos already (click the links above to see the other two), it looks like there may be more coming from AwesomeTheSauce. So if you liked what you saw, be sure to subscribe to keep up with his videos!

The other recent Poptropica streamer on YouTube is Gaming Grape, one of the gamers onย Annoying Orange Gaming, a channel with several producers.

The channel has only made one Poptropica video, in which Gaming Grape narrates gameplay of Monkey Wrench Islandย in a nasally voice, kind of like theย viral videoย the YouTube channel is named after. Check it out:

Both YouTubers come to the game with distinctly unique styles of entertainment, and it’s pretty cool to see Poptropica reaching more game-streaming audiences!

What did you think of the videos? Do they stack up to Ethan, Dan and Phil? Are there other YouTubers you’d like to see play Poptropica? Share your thoughts in the comments below, and share Poptropica with your favorite game streamers, too!

Peace, and pop back later,

YouTubers Ethan, Dan & Phil play Poptropica!

Hiya, Silver Wolf here with some exciting news about two popular YouTube gaming channelsย that have recently uploaded videos for Poptropica!

First there’sย EthanGamerTV, popular for his videos for Roblox and other games, who in November played Poptropica Worlds for the first time! Hereโ€™s his video:

In this video, Ethan focuses on one aspect of Worlds: playing throughย 24 Carrot Island. I personally thought it was really fun to watch!

Interestingly enough, he did play Poptropica Original in another video over a year ago, so some of you might remember seeing him. But StoryArc Media (Poptropica’s company) actually sponsored this video, which means he was paid for playing Poptropica Worlds.

He hasn’t made another Poptropica Original video since then, which is probably because heย had other motivations besides fun, but at least the sponsorship exposes the game to another audienceโ€”and who knows, maybe he’ll even like it enough to come back to it.

Next up there’s a new video fromย DanAndPhilGAMES, a general gaming channel owned by Dan Howell and AmazingPhil, in which both Dan and Phil take a trip to Poptropica Original. Neither of them have played Poptropica before, but the video came about as a request from their viewers. You can check it out below:

(WARNING:ย In the guys’ words, this is a “15+ rated game”โ€”or at least, their commentary makes the video such. Keep in mind that parts of their conversation areย not G-rated.)

To recap the video as far as gameplay goes, Dan and Phil didnโ€™t actually complete a full-fledged island, but they did complete the Home Island tutorial, played the Snowpocalypse mini-game, and interacted with some Poptropicans in common rooms, chatting and playing mini-games like Star Link and Hoops. All in all, it seemed like they had a fun time, and it was fun seeing their reactions!

To me, though, Dan and Phil’s video was slightly unfulfilling, as they didnโ€™t really complete an island, but who knows what will happen next? After all, many commenters are asking for follow-up videos, like this one:

dan and phil

Even though I found Dan and Phil’s video to be funnier (though not for younger audiences!), Ethan’s playthrough was more fulfilling, since he did go through a full-fledged island, whereas Dan and Phil jumped from place to place and didn’t stay too long in any of them. Still, both videos were quite entertaining!

Now that you’ve read my thoughts, what did you think of the videos? Leave your comment below!
