Fan Comic: PoptropiCon Saga, Part 1/5 ๐Ÿ’ฅ

Hey Poptropicans, this is aย guest postย by Invisible Ring.ย Enjoy!

Hello, everyone on the PHB! Iโ€™m BACK! Did ya miss me? I know I was gone a while and the Future Machine News report must have given you guys a scare on how I went missing, and how the PHB executive hadnโ€™t seen a trace of me here since our movie interview. But then I finally came out of hiding… at least a little bitโ€ฆ with my brand-new movie trailer! YAAAY!

Yes, I said in my interview that I wanted to make a new movie eventually, and now I have finally begun! But enough of that and on with the REAL reason for this post. And THAT is my fanficโ€ฆ

A superhero story of a ten-day trial of terror inside the chaotic convention center! (Bwaaa-ha-ha-ha-haโ€ฆ) In other words, this super-story is a sequel to the episodes of PoptropiCon Island, which is now back on Haxe. So, nowโ€™s as good a time as any to show you the first issues of my comic collection!

โ€ฆBut before we begin, you may want to look at my dream island one more time first, because it ties RIGHT in with the story. This makes my โ€˜fan fictionโ€™ as others would call it; a little more complicated than othersโ€ฆ I might describe it asโ€ฆ letโ€™s see, an island-sequel dream-island episodic crossover adventure! (crazy, right?) Check out My Dream Island: Megatropolis here on the PHB!

But I digress. Without further ado, here are the first 3 issues of my super-story! I read these very issues to my cousin and my older sister and they were literally ROARINโ€™ for more. They loved it, and I think YOUโ€™LL love it too! You may find my writing and drawing a little rocky at first, but like my dream island, it progresses โ€” as does the plot, the punches, the punch-LINES, and so much more. Enjoy the videos!

Issue #1: Clash of the Con

Issue #2: Mysteries of the Mighty Action Force

Issue #3: The Super Spy Squadron

There are 15 issues total in my PoptropiCon Saga. Stay tuned for the next 3 issues here on the PHB!

ย โ€ฆOr, if you canโ€™t wait that long, you can check out my YouTube channel and read all the PoptropiCon comics I have so far! (Heads-up: I don’t have all 15 issues done and uploaded yet.)

So, thatโ€™s all for now! Thank you all, and I hope youโ€™ve enjoyed the first part of my super-story!

Hope you enjoyed thisย guest postย by Invisible Ring. If you did, you might also enjoy other posts of hers, including her PHB interview about her Poptropica fan movie, Battle Morale!

Memories of Movies and Memes โ„๏ธ๐Ÿฟ

Happy new year, Poptropicans! ๐Ÿฅณ The start of 2023 brings goodies for members and non-members alike, as well as fandom highlights, including pops down memory lane. Let’s go!

January’s member gifts have arrived, bringing a Baby Snowflake follower, Blue PJs, and Blue Winter Boots to privileged players’ inventories! โ„๏ธ (If that’s not you, have you tried our PHB monthly membership giveaways?)

Regardless of membership status, though, you might find some things you like over at Adventure Outfitters, where the shop floor is once again stocking PoptropiCon Island bits and bobs. With the last episode re-released for members only four months ago, this may be a hint for the paywall coming down soon for Ep. 3: Reign of Omegon. Fingers crossed!

Over on the Poptropica Creators’ Blog, which has lately been getting much fewer updates compared with its social media counterparts, guest writer Invisible Ring has returned with a memory of an old Home Island landmark: the Movie Theater. ๐ŸŽฅ๐Ÿฟ As she shares, the theater used to be a room that played cartoons, though it was later remodeled into a crushed popcorn box with just one underwhelming video.

But that’s not all! Ring missed the theater so much, she created a YouTube playlist featuring over 80 of the videos from BatteryPop she remembers seeing there. In between, she’s also cleverly interspersed commercials for her own Pop fan vids, including a trailer for an upcoming feature film called Pirates, Camera, Action! โ€” watch it below:

New year, new story highlights on Poptropica’s Instagram profile! After a long stream of “Fan Art” highlights, Pop has added a few new categories to their page: OCs, Characters, and Memes. And the PHB is proud to be the first among the Memes for our recent post about our 2022 Rewind in the spirit of Spotify Wrapped! ๐Ÿ’

Anyway, enjoy the latest fan art features from this week โ€” now neatly sorted into the new highlight categories. Still technically fan art, but at least the names are more differentiating. ๐Ÿ˜œ

That’s a wrap for this update! See you in the next one. Pop on!

Battle Morale: an interview with Pop movie producer Invisible Ring ๐ŸŒ ๐ŸŽฅ

Hey Poptropicans, if you’ve been hoping against hope for the way the game’s been going, this might just be the pick-me-up for you.

Battle Morale is a feature-length Poptropica fan movie by Invisible Ring and released only last month. You can watch the full film below. Plus, scroll down for a PHB-exclusive interview with the perky producer!

Battle Morale tells the story of an optimistic Poptropican โ€” Ring starring as herself โ€” seeking hope and truth in a dark and pessimistic world. Along the way, she goes on a mission to retrieve pirate treasure, confronts a former Pop Creator on the world’s troubles, and dives into the deep rivalry between Amelia and the Baron. We won’t spoil everything here, but invite you to join the journey in the video above!

And now, let’s welcome our special guest to chat with us about her inspirations and process of pulling off this project: the kindred kid and the Poptropican of passion, Invisible Ring!

Ring: Hee hee heeโ€ฆ I like those alliterations! โ€ฆSo whatโ€™s up?

Fishy: Invisible Ring, we are nothing short of amazed at your new movie, and we want to hear more. Our first question is, how did you do it? How did your story come together and what was the process like?

PoptropiCon Prompts and Video Virtuosos

Hey Poptropicans, we’ve got tons of fandom creativity to share, including a couple ideas to inspire your own โ€” let’s pop into it!

To celebrate the re-release of PoptropiCon, Ep. 2, Poptropica is hosting PoptropiCon Challenges with two options! The first Pop prompt is to ๐Ÿ•ท Show Off Your Dream Cosplay Outfit (see the Spider-Man example from the Creators), and the second is to ๐Ÿƒ Make Your Own Mighty Action Force Card. See the official blog for details!

While the new episode is currently for members only, everyone is invited to join the PoptropiCon Challenges, which comes with the chance to earn “huge credit rewards”! (How much, they didn’t say.) Send in your creations to Pop’s submissions page by Wednesday, February 9th at 8pm PST and be sure to include your player name.

Looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with! Have fun!

The Creators’ Blog also recently put out a massive post of over 10 video highlights from across the fandom from YouTube and TikTok, including speedruns, Skylanders, and sketches. See all the clips from these talented video virtuosos on the official blog! ๐ŸŽฅโœจ

Speaking of video talent, Invisible Ring recently released her full-length feature film Battle Morale, an original story of an optimistic Poptropican seeking hope and truth in a dark and pessimistic world. Watch it on YouTube with bonus clips, or below:

The production took at least three months since releasing the trailer, and the movie clocks in at an impressive hour and 43 minutes. In addition to Ring’s guest post on the Creators’ Blog about the film, look forward to her interview with the PHB coming up! ๐Ÿ‘€

Closing out this collection of fandom features is an Instagram story from the Pop Creators, showcasing fan art of a perky Popsona patting an adorably grumpy Bard. Aww, good doggo! ๐Ÿถ

Speedrunning Poptropica Islands ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿ’จ

How fast can you finish a Poptropica island?

Back before the days of side quests and short islands, Poptropica islands were often long, leisurely, exploratory experiences that could take hours to complete and maybe needed walkthroughs to figure out. But if you already know where youโ€™re going and what youโ€™re doing, the island medallion can come a lot sooner. Enter the art of speedrunning!

A speedrun is a play-through of a game (or a level within it) as quickly as possible, and can apply to pretty much any video game. Unlike playing through a game the usual way and taking in all the sights and sounds, speedrunning aims to do things differently, maybe even involving some clever tricks to get to the goal of a speedy finish. Poptropicans on YouTube have gotten in on the challenge, too!

(Note: All the islands featured below are old islands that can currently only be accessed through Flashpoint, not the official game.)

Earlier this month, popular speedrunner EazySpeezy zipped through Counterfeit Island, clocking in at just under 18 minutes and condensing the adventure into a 10-minute video that already has 725K+ views. His main strategy is to use the backspace key to teleport places. Check it:

Another speedrunner, Motorjam, manages to complete Super Power Island in about 5 minutes (for reference, the PHB’s video walkthrough, which already contains some sped-up parts, is 12 minutes long). His strategy is to use a glitch with the clapboard item that allows players to jump over and over again, essentially “flying” to be able to reach high places, which comes in especially handy for catching Crusher.

Even islands known for being short can be made shorter still. Snakey642 suavely masters Shark Tooth Island in under a minute, again making use of the clapboard, this time to fly right over the shark-infested waters to rescue the stranded and save the day.

You can find lots more of these challenges on YouTube, as well as browse through (or clock in your own) world records on Speedrun.com.

What’s the most impressive Poptropica speedrun you’ve ever seen? Are you in a hurry to try this challenge combining memory, gaming, and glitching? Run wild and (figuratively) break a leg!
