Import your desktop Poptropican to the app & more!

Hi Gs,

The Poptropica app got a serious update today with lots of different features, namely a new import function that allows you to gain your appearance and name from the online version. However, this update is currently only available for Kindle Fire devices (probably has something to do with Amazon’s lax app approval system), so I was able to try it out first hand.

Do note that you have to create a new character to import the look, so the character you originally played on will be left alone. That means that you will have to replay the islands you may have completed on the original again on the imported character.

That said, it is simple enough: just click New Player, and then enter the age, gender, etc – until you reach the character look screen. A button is added – along with ‘Change All’ and ‘Change Colors’ – ‘Import Look’. Clicking this will open a screen that allows you to enter your User/Pass from the online version. Clicking accept, your tanned friend will appear. 😉

By the way, I’m pretty sure this is the first time I’ve been referenced on the Creators’ Blog – and I gotta say, it’s pretty funny. 😀 –

The costume you’ve painstakingly put together on the web? Your expertly coiffed hairstyle? Your perfect tan? Now you can take it all to go, in the Poptropica app!

There are a couple other added features as I before mentioned: Timmy Failure Island is now available to download, and a new “Fall Fashion” costume bundle has been added to the mobile store.

As per usual, the pack is $0.99 – which I am sorta abhorred by – but the costumes are pretty cool. Of course, these had already been released (sort of) on the online version of Hub Island and in the online store. Oh, wait. We haven’t covered the item 😛 —

A new item has been added to the online store for both genders, answering the request by Slippery Raptor for us getting our hands on that lucky flannel from the replacement of the original Shop keeper (he’s still on the mobile version, just inside the shop). These are both 75 credits, but for some reason are in the gold cards section instead of costumes..? Either way, really neat costumes. And yes, the costume is the same for both genders – which is a little lazy. 😛

Remember, this update is only for the Kindle Fire at the moment. We’ll update you once its released for Android and iOS devices.

Bear-y amazing hats and costumes!

Hey guys! Slip here, your bear-er of amazing news!

WARNING: Be pre-beared. This post contains a lot of bear puns so bear with me. 😛

This is bear-ly the beginning, okay?

First off, there’s a new advertisement around Poptropica’s Main Streets featuring the newest Cartoon Network series, We Bare Bears! You just need to watch a video and you’ll get a Bear Stack hat! There’s too much bears, I can’t bear it. We’re bear-y sorry but this is only for younger players.

If you can still bear the puns, better prepare for a panda-monium!

Next up, there are two new bear-y amazing cards over at the Store! Let us paws for a moment and celebrate. They’re the Hat Trick and the Capes ‘n’ Cowls! They only cost 75 Poptropica credits and comes with three different variants (Hat Trick hats are different for girls and boys).

Meanwhile on Twitter, Poptropica has recently made a bear-y relevant reference to the movie Mean Girls and a Poptropica remake of Taylor Swift‘s 1989 album cover! Oh it’s unbearable.

The voting round for the Poppies is still on and you can’t bear-ly miss the post. I can’t paws-ibly win Best Author because Fishy, HP and BT are bear-y amazing. I bear-ter stop. 😛

That’s the end of the post (made with my bear hands)! Thank you for bearing with me and being my bear witness. Now I’d bear-ter go hi-bear-nate before I go bear-serk.

Leave a comment and enjoy this gif of a bear dancing!

Home car, Templar Knight price hike, & more

Hey guys! There are some new updates on Poptropica – let’s check them out!

First, there’s a new “Home” ad (for the Party Edition of the Dreamworks movie) on Poptropica Main Streets (such as Game Show), and you just have to click on the ad to collect an untitled Car Follower!

home car followerOn another note, PHB reader Muddy Kid recently noticed that the Templar Knight in the Store now costs 410 credits (costumes are usually only 75 credits, and some are even free). It seems like the Creators are having a price hike after giving us a raise, but so far, this seems to be the only item affected with a higher price.

Also, we’ve received a bit of an explanation from the Creators regarding the sudden change of Nabooti Island being for members only. They put their response in an image since it couldn’t be contained in the 140 characters max that Twitter allows. It’s not much, but the basic idea is that Poptropica continues to evolve, and one experimentation isn’t the end of the world. Read it here:

Poptropica will always be awesome no matter what. What do you think? Leave a comment!

Arabian Nights Island, Popstorms, Realms, Sneak Peeks, Store

Biome hats, Remarkable Realms, & more!

Hey Poptropicans! Remember the sneak peek of biome hats that was tweeted with the launch of Realms? They’ve just recently hit the Store – for free! Five of these Biome Hats are available to everyone, but just like in Realms itself, the Fire and Crystal ones are for members only.

For more information about the features in Realms, such as the biomes that inspired this headwear, check out the PHB’s Poptropica Realms Guide. 🙂

Speaking of Realms, here are this week’s Remarkable Realms creations featured on the Poptropica Twitter. There were a couple of neat water parks (perhaps inspiration for the abandoned WaterThrill Island?), and Chilly Ring’s ship was also on the Creators’ Blog. As always, click to enlarge pics.

Regarding sharing Realms with friends, Poptropica confirms that they are in fact working on it! They also hope to bring Realms to the app in the next six to ten months.

In other news, Arabian Nights – Episode 2: Lair of Thieves is now available as a mobile app update on Google Play! If you need a guide, we’ve got you covered.

Finally, the Creators tweeted Popstorm (Poptropica brainstorm/doodle) #14 – exaggerated emotion! There does seem to be a lot of feeling behind this one.

Anyway, that’s all for now! Stay popping, Poptropicans. 😀

In other news, a news site called BellyFeel recently posted a ten-minute Skype interview they had with Jeff Kinney, Poptropica’s founder (and Diary of a Wimpy Kid author). Check out the video below, or read the transcribed conversation on their site.

In the video, Jeff discusses some of the thought processes behind Poptropica, including scrapping the idea of our characters having their own home/apartment, the decision to switch to episode format due to the popularity of mobile gaming, and even a confession about the original name of Poptropica – “Poptropolis” – being altered due to Nicktropolis, as Brave Tomato theorized in a previous post.

And don’t forget the PHB is having a Christmas party next Saturday (Dec 20th) – we’d love to see you there! Check out the invitation post below for more details. 😀
