Hey, Poptropicans, welcome back to the PHB’s 2017 Poppies, where the second part of the Poppies is just commencing: the voting round!

Not sure what the Poppies are? Take a look at this post.

Anyway, the nomination round has ended, so hopefully you had a chance to nominate! If not, don’t despair: the poll for the voting round is now open!

What’s the Voting Round, you ask?

The voting round includes the same categories that were in the nomination round, but this time you’re voting from a smaller pool of options under each category. These options (about 5-7 per category) were the most popular nominations from the first round.

You may also notice a few new categories in this round that weren’t open to nominations in the previous round, due to options already being set. These categories are: Best Adventure Island, Best Common Room Game, Best Tribe Common Room, and Best PHB Author.

The Voting Round closes on Saturday, July 22, so make your voice heard while you can!

We’ll be announcing the winners LIVE at our PHC party next next week, which will be on July 26, the PHB’s birthday. You won’t want to miss it! We’ll keep you posted on more details in the following week. In the meantime…

♫ It’s the most wonderful time of the year… ♫

Welcome, ladies and gents of the Poptropica community, to the Poptropica Help Blog’s third annual Poptropica community awards event: The Poppies!

What are The Poppies?

If you were around for last year’s event, you may remember how this works. We start off with a nomination round, where you nominate your picks for a certain category. This begins today, Wednesday, July 5, and will last for a week, until Wednesday, July 12.

Next, we move on to the voting round. Once the nominations have been narrowed down, you’ll be able to vote from the most popular nominations of each category. This will commence on Saturday, July 15 and will end a week later on Saturday, July 22.

Finally, this leads us to the awards ceremony, where we will be announcing the winners as we celebrate the PHB’s 9th birthday on Wednesday, July 26. More details about the party will be announced soon!

Part I: Nomination Round

First up is the nomination round. Each award category announced will be followed by a brief description (see below). To keep the nominations a surprise, you’ll be putting your nominations in our survey, where the Poppies team will look at the most popular nominations to create the voting options for the next round. Keep in mind that some of these categories are applicable to both Poptropica Worlds and Original Poptropica.

Without further ado, the awards up for grabs are:

Poptropica Gameplay Awards:

  1. Best Store Item: With over a hundred store items Poptropica has released, which one stood out to you the most? Was it a costume? A power? A mini quest? Whatever it is – nominate it!
  2. Best Tribe Common Room: Ah, the Tribe common rooms; the exclusive space where tribal mates can meet up and plot their revenge enjoy each other’s company. Each room has its own interactive elements and they all have awesome designs, but which one is really the best?
  3. Best Common Room Game: Poptropica’s common room games include: Sudoku, Hoops, Sky Dive, Paint War, Star Link, Balloons, Soupwords, and Pathwise. Nominate your favorites from the list!
  4. Best Adventure Island: Poptropica has classified four islands as Adventure Islands. These include: Mythology, Arabian Nights, Survival, and Mystery of the Map. Which one is the greatest play?
  5. Best Challenging Island: Poptropica defines the challenging islands on the map as the following: Galactic Hot Dogs, Timmy Failure, Poptropicon, Spy, Shrink Ray, Reality TV, Escape from Pelican Rock (EFPR), Red Dragon, Super Power, Zomberry, Wild West, Vampire’s Curse, Cryptids, Monster Carnival, Mystery Train, Mocktropica, Wimpy Boardwalk, Shark Tooth, Night Watch, Astro Knights, Back Lot, Early Poptropica, Lunar Colony, Super Villain, S.O.S., Poptropolis Games, Counterfeit, Skullduggery, Ghost Story, Virus Hunter, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Big Nate, Steamworks, Great Pumpkin, Twisted Thicket, and Nabooti. Wowie, that’s a lengthy list; it does offer some great choices, though. Which one do you think is the most challenging?
  6. Best Poptropica Merchandise: Over the years Poptropica has released quite a wide range of merchandise: books, toys, video games, and even clothing! Whether it was released or never released – which piece of merch was your favorite? If you’re not quite sure, our merchandise page is a good place to browse for favorites.
  7. Best Island Trailer: Typically a couple of weeks before a new island releases, Poptropica releases a  video trailer to give us a preview of what our next adventure has in store for us. They’ve made one for almost every Island, and they’re all very good, but are some better than others? Which one is your favorite? Whether it’s on a basis of cinematic feel, the music, or just the island itself –  go ahead and nominate it!
  8. Best Poptropica Ad: While Poptropica’s Islands keep us occupied most of the time, sometimes there isn’t anything to do. Quite often, advertisers contract for temporary games that appear on Poptropica. Advertisers have included Disney, Kellogg’s Froot Loops, Lego toys, and various animated movies and DVD releases, but there have been many others as well. If you can’t remember many of the past ads (then again, who can?), the Ad Transporter, developed by Keith Sammut, allows you to teleport to retired advertisement stages – so go check it out!
  9. Most Surprising Plot Twist: When playing a Poptropica Island, it’s not a surprise to expect a surprise, but sometimes it’s just not what we saw coming. We can think of a few examples that are perfect for this category, but we’ll leave it up to you to come up with the plot twist that surprised you most.
  10. Wittiest Poptropican Name: We’ve chosen the best (Golden Dragon & Golden Sword), we’ve chosen the worst (Big Belly), we’ve chosen the funniest (Cuddly Cactus), but how about the wittiest? Poptropica names can be pretty witty, but which combination is just too witty? Check out our Poptropica Names page to come up with something clever.

Community Awards:

  1. Best PHB Author: The PHB currently has a team of eight staff writers who work hard to provide informing and entertaining content, and each author presents with their own unique style. The current team consists of Slanted Fish, Brave Tomato, Spotted Dragon, Slippery Raptor, Lucky Joker, Happy Lobster, Silver Wolf, and Purple Claw – and all of us are automatically nominated!
  2. Best MPIP: Here on the PHB, many poptropicans have written their “My Place in Poptropica”, where they’ve shared their stories on how they came to Poptropica as well as their involvement in the community. (Look back on every MPIP here!)
  3. Best Active Fan Site (outside of the PHN): We, the PHB, want to take a moment to recognize another Poptropica fan site out there that’s doing awesome work, and this is that award! That means this award is not for the Poptropica Help Network, which includes this blog, the PHC (chat), our Twitter, videos, and wiki. Don’t worry, though – there are still so many content creators out there who put out neat stuff. Whether it’s a blog, a YouTube channel, or something else, go ahead and nominate it if it’s your favorite! As for blogs, the Poptropica Bloggers Network is a perfect place to start looking through a few.
  4. Best Fan Art of 2017: Poptropican artists from all over have created wonderful masterpieces throughout the year so far, but which of them deserves the title of “best”? Our DeviantArt group is a good place to start searching. This category looks for works that were created/published in the year 2017, to give the more current and active artists a chance at the award.
  5. Best Fan Fiction: Because art consists of such a diverse range of creative and imaginative pieces, we thought we’d make a category specifically for fan fictions. Again, the PHB magazines and our DeviantArt group are great places to look. Get reading!
  6. Best Realm: Another form of art on its own; there are tons of realms that have been created. Look through some of them and provide the code in the nomination survey so that we can see it too! You may nominate your own Realms, your friends’, or even someone you don’t know – it’s up to you.
  7. Best PHC Staffer: In case you’ve been living under a rock, the PHB hosts a chat server on Discord called the PHC, which stands for Poptropica Help Chat. You should really stop by! The PHC has a staff team of kind and reliable people who keep the chat a fun and safe environment. That sounds pretty award-deserving, don’t you think? Nominate your favorite staff member and tell us why you picked them! This award excludes PHB staff but includes any current Guardian (mod) or Supreme Overlord (admin).

Undesirable Awards:

  1. Most Underrated Character: While some characters are given much attention, some are very overlooked. Which Poptropica character do you think is the most underrated? (Note: Don’t nominate fellow players. This is for NPCs.)
  2. Worst Poptropica Update: Poptropica has come out with many amazing updates that have really expanded the game such as the friend feature and restart-an-island feature, but there have been others that many weren’t on board with. Do you have any in mind? Which update is the worst to you?

As said before, the nomination round starts now, so sound off in the survey who/what you think is deserving of the awards! Please limit your nominations to a max of three per award. Also, you’re not required to nominate for every category, though it is encouraged!

Remember, the voting round starts next week, and next week’s poll options will be based on this week’s most popular nominations. So, be sure to check back in next week to cast your votes! For now…

Recap and a wrap: Poppies 2016 Party!

As you’ve no doubt noticed on the PHB, over the past couple of weeks we’ve been hosting The Poppies, which is our Poptropica community awards event! We’re thankful for everyone who participated in nominating, voting, dressing up, partying, and of course, appreciating.

The main event, the Poppies party and winners livestream, took place on July 26, 2016 – the PHB’s 8th anniversary. Check out the well-dressed Poptropicans in the party collage below!

Between the Poppies winners being announced via livestream (check out the winners here!), jokes and chatter filling up the PHC, and rounds of game battles, cake throws, and 8th birthday pigs in Multiverse rooms, it was a lot of fun and frenzy for everyone involved, including the PHB staff of course!

Here at the PHB, we’re amazed and grateful for all of your support, and how it has carried us for eight whole years. This year, in 2016, we began publishing Poptropica stories from the community, known as My Place in Poptropica. It has been quite interesting to hear your stories, and we’re honored to be part of it. We look forward to even more poppin’ times in the future.

Also, you may have noticed some new changes here on the PHB. They will be discussed further in another post, but we hope you enjoy them now and onwards. In the meantime, if you are experiencing any downtime, please just wait about half a minute and then do a quick refresh on the page.

One of the biggest new changes to highlight is the onsite forums – discussion boards right here on the PHB, for connecting our community in matters both on and off Poptropica. Unlike the fast-paced nature of the PHC, forum messages can stay for a while, and is its own medium worth exploring, so we hope you’ll check it out! We’d love to hear feedback as well.

As defined from the homepage, various islands have become quite popular with Poptropicans. Whether its mysterious story, funny characters, and aesthetic designs took you away, which of the nominees below “popped” out and caught the hearts of Poptropicans?

The Royal Family of Arturus, come up here! Congratulations to Astro-Knights! This medieval-sci-fi fusion was really amazing! It’s time to blast off these little Poppies to Pewter Moon! Shark-suited guy, please hand out the trophies. How much did Astro-Knights win? Here are the results!

  • Best New Island

Over the past 4 years, Poptropica has made 17 recent islands along with significant updates and additions. With fresh plots, awesome animations and bonus quests, here are the nominees!

Here we have the famous director from Mission Atlantis, Cam Jameson, to hand us the envelope containing the results. Now, the island that has accumulated whopping 24.6% of the votes, is no other than… Monster Carnival!

Poptropica’s greatest mystery has finally unveiled itself in 2014 and though it’s been two years since the carnival came to town, no one has forgotten what happened that day… oh yes, all that yummy fried dough! Ringmaster Raven is here to receive the second award; thanks to Cam Jameson! Here are the results below:

  • Best Classic Island

Turn back the clocks and we’re going back to the future the past! Pre-2015 was a fine time for Poptropica, with tons of popular and amazing islands. These islands contributed to its popularity today and those classic concepts of Old Poptropica remain in us all to this day. Which of our nominees rose above the rest?

Holmes will be printing the results shortly, please wait… and, done! Okay, now for the results. Our winner has gathered an amazing 24.6% of the votes! The best Classic Island goes to…*drumroll* Reality TV!

Well, what do you know? A dream turned into a reality! Congratulations to Reality TV Island! To receive the award from Holmes and Professor Watson, here comes Bucky Lucas with his awesome fancy tux! Amazing!

These islands may not have a Poptropica original story, but even still, some prove to amaze us. A few months back, Poptropica held the March Madness event, wherein Red Dragon was (re)opened to all players. The same contenders go head-to-head to win the Best Sponsored Island award. Will Red Dragon claim it again this time?

I knew it was coming, but of course, Red Dragon deserves it! Were the sumo wrestlers around? Because it was a grand slam! To receive this special award, Jack and Annie are here walking up to the stage as Cosmoe hands them the award! Woohoo!

  • Okay-est Island

Not all islands have left a great impact on players and the community, and unfortunately, there were some that flopped or simply didn’t become quite as popular. These islands are not that bad, yet not too good – just okay. Last year, Galactic Hot Dogs Island won Worst Island, but will it return for a back-to-back Razzie er, Poppie this year? Here are the nominees!

Here we have Mongo the Monkey delivering the envelope on a little Poptropica blimp! How cute! Which island wins in mediocrity? Let’s see! This year’s “Okay-est Island” award goes to… Mission Atlantis!

Mission Atlantis fits the title quite well. As we wrote in our island review back in the day, it wasn’t terrible, just meh. Here we have Cam Jameson to receive the award from Mongo, along with the help of Crusoe!

  • Best & Funniest Poptropican Name

Poptropica names are randomly generated and sometimes that can result in funny, crazy and even amazing combinations. Poptropicans all around the world have scoured all over for the best and the funniest Poptropican names they could get! Here are our nominees!

And now we have Big Belly, last year’s “worst name” winner, here to present the next award. The funniest Poptropican name of 2016 is… Cuddly Cactus!

I must admit, these are awesome and funny names, and definitely beats Slippery Raptor. Where would you see a raptor sliding down a slippery road? (But hey, if you’d like to create that image, I’d be happy to see it!)

Anyways, congratulations to those players out there whose Poptropicans are named after two amazing combinations of Poptropican names!

  • Weirdest Poptropica Moment

Sometimes, our adventures on Poptropica can get a little weird — with reactions ranging from making the player laugh, be scared, or cringe. Nominations came in, and as we filtered through them, we couldn’t help but have mixed reactions. Which of these eccentric moments made it to the top?

  • Carnies on Monster Carnival turning into monsters
  • Crossing a bridge of Narfs on Mocktropica
  • Entering Patient Zero’s (Joe Stockman’s) mouth on Virus Hunter
  • Katya and Christopher’s kiss in Vampire’s Curse

Very queer indeed. To deliver the envelope for this round, we have Crusoe, fresh from his tropical island. Now, to proclaim this year’s weirdest moment! The award goes to no other than… Katya and Christopher for their on-screen kiss on Poptropica!

The first ever (lip) kiss on Poptropica made a lot of players cringe at seeing two Poptropican mouths make contact with each other. Gross enough that it made its way to the Poppies! We have Katya and Christopher here to receive their crazy award. Hehe. Don’t be too embarrassed, you lovebirds.

  • Best Soundtrack from a New and Remade Island

Poptropica’s composers, Jeff Heim and Kyle Fox, sure have some sick music skills, and we can’t help but honor their work in the Poppies. Last year, Monster Carnival’s Main Theme serenaded its way to the top and we can’t help but ask if it will go for a back-to-back award this year. I sure hope so! Join us for the Poppies 2016 Party and Livestream!

Hey Poptropi-ladies and Poptropi-gents,

You’ve nominated, you’ve voted… and very soon, it will be time to reveal the winners of this year’s Poptropica Community Awards, or as we affectionately call them, the Poppies!

Like last year, we’ll be celebrating with a party on the PHC while announcing the winners via a livestream. Everyone’s invited to attend, and here are the details below!

As detailed in the invitation above, the party is this coming Tuesday, July 26, the date of the PHB’s anniversary – which had the most votes during the voting round!

It’s going to be the PHB’s 8th birthday, so I guess you could say that makes us the PH8 (because 8 looks like a B, get it? ha, ha). But despite our pH level, I promise it’ll be anything but basic.

The party begins at 7pm EST (that’s 6pm CST / 5pm MST / 4pm PST) on our chat, the PHC, and the livestream will also begin at around that time. If you live in a time zone that’s not listed, use a timezone converter to figure out what time that may be in your area (in some places, it may be Wednesday morning). We hope you can make it, or at least pop in at a later time!

The livestream link will be posted on the PHC during the party, so check there when the time comes if you’d like to watch along! Don’t worry about missing it, the video will still be viewable later. The awards presentation will be hosted by us PHB authors, so be sure to check it out if you have the chance!

At the same time, you can also chat with Poptropicans on our Poptropica Help Chat on Discord, meeting up in Multiverse party rooms and having a good time! We’ve seen a lot of awesome Poppies formal outfits from many you guys, and now’s your chance to dazzle everyone on the big day! Dress up your best in tuxes, ties, dresses – and of course, the 8th birthday balloon (if you have it) to celebrate the PHB’s 8th birthday! It’s going to be a poppin’ time, so see you there!
