Poptropican’s 911: Issue #2

It’s time to kick off the month of July 2009 with another issue of the PHB’s Poptropican’s 911 newsletter! You’ll get to learn how to play any room on Astro-Knights Island in full-screen, read some cool tales about courageous Poptropicans, admire awesome artwork, and lots more! So, let’s go ahead and…

Enter the realm of Issue #2!

Also, the Poptropica Help Blog’s ”Poptropica Poll” has been updated! Our latest question reads, ”Reality TV Island is coming this summer! I’m most excited about:” followed by some cool answers, so take your time voting!

June 2009’s poll question was, ”How many credits do you own (on a single/main Poptropica account)?” Here are the results:

Option | Votes | Percentage
None, I spent them all. | 519 | 22%
25 – 75 | 443 | 19%
100 – 475 | 653 | 28%
500 – 575 | 118 | 5%
600 – 775 | 121 | 5%
800 – 975 | 187 | 8%
1000+ | 301 | 13%

You can now rate any of the PHB’s posts or pages with awesome blue stars! At the bottom of every post and page, you’ll find 5 stars with a ”Rate This” sign next to them. (Note: For posts, you have to click on it to actually see the rating section, because it doesn’t show on the homepage.) To rate our pages/posts, simply hover your cursor over the stars and select how many you’d like to rate us (out of a possible 5). One is the worst; five is the best; and you can see what each number of stars stand for when you hover over that amount. Here’s the list:

  • One star = Very Poor
  • Two stars = Poor
  • Three stars = Average
  • Four stars = Good
  • Five stars = Excellent

Once you’ve decided how well we’ve written a post or page, click on the stars to submit your rating. A ”Thank You” will appear for a brief moment, then it will show you the average rating of the post/page from everyone who has ever rated there. Next to it, it will show you how many people have rated the post/page. If you try to rate again, but with a different star level, it will be saved over your first one. If you try to rate again, but with the same star level, it will not add one more to the number of votes.

So, please send us your valued feedback! 🙂

But before we give you the link, you probably want to know what the newsletter’s name is. Which names won the vote? Well… *drumroll*… here it is in a nutshell (top 3 listed):

It’s definitely worth taking a look at. There you’ll find the answers to stopping Dr. Hare from taking over PHB (sorry, the competition is over… so it’s not cheating this time), how to play on Astro-Knights without an Early Access Pass, and much more!

The Monthly Surprise

🙂 We are happy to announce the major event that will be happening every month, and you will be involved. 🙂

~

_A Special “PHB Monthly Newsletter”_
The First Sunday of Every Month

The PHB Newsletter. A giant mixture of news, events and even competitions. From now on, on the first Sunday of every month we will post this legendary post. It will consist of almost 10 sections for pure Poptropica awesomeness. 😛
That’s right, it’s what you have been dreaming about.

The monthly post will contain things like:

  • “Ask PHB”: Readers can ask questions about Poptropica via e-mail to the PHB staff. We can select about 3 of them to publish per month.
  • Competitions.
  • “PHB Sneak Peeks” – Yes, new ones. 😛
  • Stories: Readers can submit their own short stories to PHB’s e-mail and we can select one for every month, OR we can hire someone to be a “Newsletter Author”, and they will send in a short story/chapter or part of a long story (for each month) to PHB’s e-mail for us to publish each month.
  • Submit Your Own: Let readers submit their own ideas (maybe their dreams of what kind of island they want to see on Poptropica), stories, competition entries, fan art (comics, etc) and more to [email protected].
  • Current News/Monthly Reflection: A summary of what happened in Poptropica for the past month – Sneak peeks, new islands, new ads, etc
  • “Easter Eggs”: In each issue, reveal a secret (known as “Easter eggs”) from Poptropica. (example: typing ‘1225’ in the phone from Nabooti for a Santa hat and sack) or maybe someone besides Dr. Hare.
  • Fan Art: Show a Poptropica-themed poem, comic, drawing, puzzle, or something else created by a Poptropican.

Any more suggestions? Opinions? If you would like to apply for any of these positions, you may start now and send them over to [email protected]. We can’t wait to see our readers’ creativity!

~

A Note Regarding ‘Poptropica Poll’

As you’ve probably noticed, we have a sidebar widget titled ‘Poptropica Poll’, where there is a Poptropica-related poll that readers may vote on. They used to be changed at random times, but starting this month, they will be changed every time a new PHB monthly newsletter is released (the first Sunday of a month). This month’s new poll will start a little later, probably next week, and will ask the question, “What would you like the PHB’s monthly newsletter to be called?” We will use this to review your suggestions, and when June’s edition of the newsletter comes out, you will find the winning name, as well as a new poll updated for the coming month!

We have the idea. We have the writers. The only problem? We don’t know what to call it.
Comment with your great ideas on this post. Your suggestions may be put into the next poll.

Poptropica Fools!

April Fools Day, 2009

aprilfoolsplan

April Fools day. A day for foolery and miscious. And PHB had a go at it.

The logo used in the PHB April Fools, 2009 Prank.
The logo used in the PHB April Fools, 2009 Prank.

For 3 days before, during, and after Aprils Fools day, the PHB team changed the whole site to appear as if it was now serving another online game called “Club Penguin”. And boy did PHB fool alot of people!

Crying, thrashing, tearing, yelling, “WE WANT PHB BE BACK! WE WANT PHB BACK!”. We got dozens of comments and emails of pure panic that the site had mysteriously changed over night.

Not only was it the readers that got fooled but the Poptropica Creators Blog (PCB) got fooled too:

Rest In Peace – Help Blog

We wanted to acknowledge a certain “Help Blog” for Poptropica that recently changed formats. They had a lot of talent, and we’ll miss them terribly. Good luck guys.

Whether or not this was the creators just joining in on the foolery, or maybe they were just completly fooled, or maybe they were just talking about another site (unlikely 😉 ).

So what on earth did we do to make it look so much like we had changed.

Heres what the site looked like.
Heres what the site looked like.

First off Codien designed the header, making it as real as possible as if we were really a help blog serving Club Penguin.

Now we had to write the posts and pages.  We were stuck. We had to write lots of posts and pages in less then 3 days. We couldn’t do it. So we emailed a very good friend of ours and asked her if we could use her posts for the prank.

This person was Happy Pippi – Happy Pippi owns a  wonderful, amazing, well organized blog involving Club Penguin. Her blogged is filled with amazing posts and pages.

When we asked she was very happy in letting us use her posts (Suggesting the name 😉 ).

We would like everybody to give a very big thanks to Happy Pippi. THANKS HAPPY PIPPI!

Please visit her amazing site by clicking on this link:   http://happypippi.wordpress.com/
Or you can access it by clicking on the link button saying Happy Pippi in the right hand bar.

We will add more stuff to this latter. With a more detailed explanation and behind the scenes work.

April Fools!

…

“O HAI DERE!”

A mysterious voice booms out loud and clear. You stop to listen.

“You’re from Poptropica, aren’t you? Just to let you know, it’s not really safe around these parts. There have been rumors circulating around about these places, rumors you don’t want to hear about. Believe me, it’s horrible here. Seriously, have you seen… Poofendirtz? Oh, you don’t even want to know!

…

(Long, awkward silence)

…

You DO want to know? You do realize that you may find yourself dead if you wish to continue, right? Because if you make one wrong move, well, we’re not going to be held responsible for it, capisce?

…all right then. No backing out now!”

By now, you’re really starting to feel creeped out, but there’s no way to escape now. You come across a diversion on the path you’re walking on and wonder what you should do next…
