The Islands of 2015 – Ranked 10 Years Later 2️⃣0️⃣1️⃣5️⃣

Howdy Poptopicanos! 🤟 This is LJ, and today I’ll be ranking the islands from 2015, a decade after they were released. There were only 4 islands that came out this year that I’ll be including in this ranking: Galactic Hot Dogs, Mystery of the Map, Timmy Failure, and Escape from Pelican Rock. Let’s see how they place!

(Please note, the final episodes of PoptropiCon & Arabian Nights were released in 2015 as well, but those islands were included in the 2014 ranking. Also, these are not full reviews of the islands; therefore, each analysis will be brief.)

#4: Galactic Hot Dogs Island 🌭

(released: January 30 for members & February 19 for all)

I’ll be honest, Galactic Hot Dogs Island never interested me at the time of its release and I don’t think I’ve ever gotten the urge to ever replay it. I do like the character designs and the colors are visually appealing to me—the overall art style might even be better than the next island on this list. Still, that’s just not enough for me to rank this one any higher. Sorry Galactic Hot Dogs!

#3: Timmy Failure Island 🐻‍❄️

(released: September 17 for members & October 6 for all)

Just like Galactic Hot Dogs Island, this one also didn’t grab my interest. I struggle to recall much about this island, aside from Timmy Failure’s pet polar bear, Total, who totally stole the show for being a whole mood. Total seems more likable than any of the characters from Galactic Hot Dogs, so because of that alone, Timmy Failure Island sits in third place. (Oh, and the mini-game where you have to dodge the trash from the garbage truck is one other thing I remember. That was pretty fun.)

#2: Mystery of the Map Island 🗺️

(released: May 21 for members & June 11 for all)

I’ll be upfront and say that I have a positive bias towards this island. Why? I’m not entirely sure, maybe it’s just the good vibes it gives off. The soundtrack definitely hits home for me as I remember playing this island over 10 times when I was younger.

Now, if you’ve read the first book in the Poptropica graphic novel series that this island is based on, you’ll see just how dull this island feels in comparison. It really doesn’t have much in terms of character or story development (which is a common theme for this year in general). Still, it’s not the worst island we’ve seen in Poptropica and it’s definitely an improvement over the last two islands on this list. I’ll admit again that I’m biased, though. I really like the characters Oliver, Mya, and Jorge for who they are beyond just this island.

#1: Escape from Pelican Rock Island 🌉

(released: December 10 for members & December 30 for all)

Escape from Pelican Rock, in my opinion, was the last truly great island that Poptropica came out with. To me, it’s even better than some of the islands that were released in what we all think of as Poptropica’s prime time. EFPR has a colorful array of characters and an engaging storyline centered around a jailbreak and clearing your name.

Although spending each day in the prison could feel a bit monotonous, I appreciate that there was always something slightly different happening every day. The island was challenging, but not to the extent that it caused a complete meltdown from stress—just good fun. And let’s not forget that the PHB got a shoutout in the form of an easter egg! How awesome is that?

Unfortunately, 2015 was sort of the beginning of the end of Poptropica, so this wasn’t really a difficult ranking to make. Escape from Pelican Rock Island is the standout that’s really carrying this year, MotM is just kinda there, and the other two aren’t really for me.

Have you played any of these islands? Which one did you like the most and which one did you like the least? I’m especially curious to see the comparisons between Galactic Hot Dogs and Timmy Failure. Which one is better/worse for you, and why? Share your opinions in the comments down below. 👇 Also, check out my other rankings of the Poptropica Islands if you’re interested: 20082009, 20102013, & 2014 Thanks for reading, everybody…pop on and have a Happy New Year!🍀

Islands of the Month, Mystery of the Map Island, Nabooti Island

May We Bring *Fourth* the IOTM…

Hello, everyone! May the 4th be with you!

The last of the April showers have brought in… May showers?? Well at least it’s also raining in two new Islands of the Month, now playable for extra credits. This month’s featured islands are… Mystery of the Map Island and Nabooti Island!

Poptropica May Islands of the Month Nabooti and Mystery of the Map

Mystery of the Map Island

Mystery of the Map makes its second appearance as an IOTM, honoring the recent release of Poptropica: The Secret Society, book 3 of the Poptropica graphic novel series. Fun fact: MOTM Island was one of the first IOTMs back in September. Also, if you haven’t read the book yet, you totally should – it’s even been a New York Times bestseller!

Captain Crawfish has made a video walkthrough for the island, if you’d like to use it:

If you’d prefer to use a written guide, however, we’ve got one right here on the PHB.

Nabooti Island

Yep, that’s right – Nabooti won the recent IOTM poll on the Creators’ Blog with about two-thirds of the votes! This is especially great news for non-members, because although Nabooti is usually members only (as of July 2015), for this month of May, it will be open to everyone!

Captain Crawfish is currently making a video walkthrough for the island, and it’ll be uploaded soon. The official video walkthrough is now here! Plus, the PHB’s written guide has got you covered as well, if you prefer words and pictures.

Remember, first-time finishers will receive 500 credits and re-players will earn 300 credits, so make sure to take advantage of the credit boost while you can!

And, as per the tradition, stay tuned for some behind-the-scenes sketches of the making of these two islands later this month!

Also, remember Skinny Moon’s Worlds-ified avatar from yesterday’s post? Well, over on Tumblr, she’s included the full version of the picture! Check out the green socks:

Alright, that’s all for now. May the Force be with you, Poptropicans.

International Virus-Hunting & Pirate-Talking Day

Ahoy ye scallywags!

Today, September 19th, be International Talk Like a Pirate Day, and as is appropriate, today we be talking about our favorite pirate, Captain Crawfish!

As promised, he released his video walkthrough for Virus Hunter Island, one of this month’s ITOM! (Only took him three years. And keeping in line with the rule of threes, the video was actually released three days ago, but they only made a blog post now. Kind of like us… 😅)

Remember, any player who completes Virus Hunter or Mystery of the Map this month will receive extra credits – even those who already finished it! (I like to believe this is my doing, of course.)

Also Snapshot September has come to a close – Slip said he was going to post the results yesterday, but unfortunately he was too busy. They’ll be up soon though, we promise!

Keep a weather eye on the horizon,

An Iota of IOTM

Hello readers!

UPDATE: Poptropica has updated its post to say that old-timers will also be rewarded as well – the first time you complete an Island you’ve already finished, you’ll get a 100 credit bonus. Also,  those of you who have already completed the IOTM – you’ll get a 300 credit bonus the first time you complete it again!

While I’m struggling with composite functions, there’s big news in Poptropica: they increased the credit count for completing islands (again)! They’ve doubled it from 150 to 300! (I swear, things always get easier for the younger generation, doesn’t it?)

In addition, every month, the creators are going to feature two Islands of the Month, which will award 500 credits… to first-time finishers. Come on creators, throw us old-timers a bone!

This month’s IOTM (Islands of the Month) are Mystery of the Map (guide here) and Virus Hunter (guide here), for anyone who wants to try to get some extra credits. The Creators also leave us with this promise: “We’ll also be doing some cool stuff for the Islands of the Month here on the (Creators’) blog and on Poptropica’s social media, so stay tuned…”

In addition to this news, the PHB got a shout-out in the very same post! Check it out:

You also might want to explore one of our amazing fan blogs, the Poptropica Help Blog. They have their own Island Guides — one for every Island! We haven’t watched all the videos or read through all the walkthroughs, but we know lots of Poptropica players turn to the PHB for help — so you might want to check them out!

We appreciate the praise creators. We think your walkthroughs are pretty great too… the ones you’ve released, at least.

See you guys later,

A Story of Sharks, Zombies, and Robots

Hello readers!

I guess that’s my tagline now… could be better I guess. Oh well.

Anyways, while the Tribal Tournament is in full swing (go Seraphim!) the Poptropica Creators have been using the new feature Instagram Stories (which is definitely not Snapchat in any way shape or form). Check them out below! (Credit to Cool Octopus!)

So we have a Zomberry Island poster, the back of a Poptropica toy, the host of “Scaredy Pants”, a Zomberry, a screenshot of a video showing off the Mystery of the Map book in different languages, and the 3″ Shark Surfer and the Booga Shaman toys.

Basically, just keep an eye out on the Poptropica Creators’ Snapch-I mean, Instagram Stories, in order to see neat pictures from around Poptropica HQ!

That’s all for now. Don’t forget to support your tribe in the showdown, and while I would say join Seraphim if you haven’t chosen a tribe yet… I feel kind of bad for Andrew at the moment. The Nightcrawlers really, really, really need the help.

See ya in the next post,
