Skydock Island: the new Home Island?

The island of many names is about to get another mouthful: Home Island, also known by its alternate names Hub Island or Tutorial Island, could soon become Skydock Island.

skydock

We’ve mentioned before of the Daily Pop hinting at upgrades to Home Island, including a ship-shaped renovation and the possibility of a personal home to display your medallions…

The rest of this post is written by Nice Hawk. He first made these findings on his site, Poptrickia, and allowed them to be shared here on the PHB. Enjoy!

…But it gets even better. Poking around in the unreleased files of Home Island, I found these highly interesting scenes and schematics which (partially) confirm my theories:

This first image is a preliminary look at what the Main Street of the new Home Island will look like; apparently it’ll be called “Skydock.” The buildings in this image will lead to the rooms below, the Town Hall and Saloon (click to view full size):

These are actually scenes by the Creators that are in the earliest stages. Even though they’re mainly just line drawings and text on a black background, the descriptions are already getting me excited for the update. 🙂 It looks like the Creators are planning a lot of creative additions to Home Island this year.

Another thing that I found while looking at the code for Home Island, is that these rooms (Skydock, Town Hall, and Saloon) might even be common rooms! That’s right, you might be able to chat, friend, and battle with other players while also enjoying Home Island. Now I’m not 100% sure if that’s true based on the code, but it would be a reasonable enough assumption. 😉

It looks like the Creators themselves are still working out the details though, like for instance how the rooms will look like and how they’ll be connected, so the final product may be different from what I’ve outlined here. But so far this looks like the gist of it. And I’m definitely looking forward to this huge update!

Ever wondered why exactly the medallion shards are scattered all over the place when you play the Tutorial, and why there’s a pilot there talking to you? Well, another update to Home Island (that might be coming sooner than the ship-related one) gives the backstory to that. This dialog file shows what seems to be you talking with the pilot while you’re both up in the blimp:

You: The view is great from up here!
Pilot: Ahoy fellow traveler!
You: Ahoy!
You: Are you on your way to Poptropica too?
Pilot: I sure am! But first, a minor course correction.
Pilot: Woah!
Pilot: Oh no! The medallion!
You: Oh dear!
Pilot: I see where it landed, I am going after it!
Pilot: Want to join me in an adventure?

Then the pilot offers you a choice to either do the medallion-shard-finding tutorial or to go to Home. So basically, the medallion is in pieces down there because the Pilot dropped it from his own balloon. Interesting backstory.

Anyway, those are all the exclusive Home Island sneak peeks that I’ve got so far! Looks like the upcoming update is full of fun new things to do or to just enjoy looking at. The Creators haven’t officially announced it yet (though they did give hints of it in their New Year’s post), so we don’t know when it’s coming. But it sure is something grand to look forward to. 🙂

Again, thanks to Nice Hawk for this guest post on the PHB! Be sure to check out his site, Poptrickia, which is full of tips, tricks, and Poptropica goodness. Stay popping, Poptropicans!

2015 Rewind: Islands, Events, and More!

poptropica2015

Hey guys, Slip here.

Wow, another year has already passed. 2015 is coming to an end, and what better way to bring it to a close than to reflect and look back to all that’s happened this year?

happynewyear

2015, for Poptropica, is one of its awesome years. They reached a lot of milestones and new developments that made our game experience better than ever. This post is divided into three parts: the islands, the Poptropica milestones, and the PHB events.

Islands & Episodes

In 2015, we had a total of 4 new islands and 2 new episodes! From the forty thieves to space pirates to robot rulers, there was a lot for Poptropica adventurers to experience this year. Let’s take a look!

Arabian Nights Episode 2: Lair of Thieves

Poptropica started the year with releasing the second episode of Arabian Nightsone of the best episodic adventures we’ve had. It was definitely challenging, heart-stopping, and mysterious all at the same time. In this episode, everything was well done, making for an enjoyable experience. (You can check out our review here!)

Galactic Hot Dogs Island

Poptropica also launched a brand new sponsored island early on in the year: Galactic Hot Dogs. To be honest, Galactic Hot Dogs Island is one of Poptropica’s easiest islands, and its lack of challenge plus its being a sponsored island with a very contrasting art style made it rather unlikeable for many Poptropicans (in fact, it was voted Worst Poptropica Island in the PHB’s Poppies event!). Still, Poptropica brought a new island with a distinct story and a light challenge to all.

PoptropiCon Episode 3: Reign of Omegon

After releasing Galactic Hot Dogs to everyone, PoptropiCon’s concluding episode followed next. Now this was one amazing episode. Everything worked out well and Omegon played effectively as the story’s antagonist. I believe Poptropica made sure that this island would be remarkable; it definitely was one of the better ones and even inspired our April Fool’s prank this year!

Mystery of the Map Island

In May, a new island dawned on Poptropica. Based on the Poptropica graphic novel, you could say this island is a hybrid of both original and sponsored island. I enjoyed how our player is added to the plot. The downside was that the graphic novel had already been released, which meant everyone was already aware of what was going to happen. Still, the island was cool to play, and the design was well made. (Read our review of this island here!)

Arabian Nights Episode 3: Careful What You Wish For

Wishes do come true, as the ending of Arabian Nights showed us. I would consider this episode one of Poptropica’s finest works. Poptropica made everything top-notch in this episode — the story, the characters, the gameplay and even the design were all so amazing! Plus, Samhal the comedic genie gave us a lot of laughs along the way! (Read the PHB’s review here!)

Timmy Failure Island

This island isn’t a complete failure; it’s actually greater than expected! Sponsored islands have a down-factor since they aren’t an original Poptropica story, but this island defied the paradigms of the sponsored islands! From its wacky characters to its hilarious whodunit storyline, this island didn’t fail to meet our expectations. As far as sponsored islands go, this is one of the best. As a plus, it even came with a weekly giveaway(Check out our review here!)

Escape From Pelican Rock Island

We’ve been through a lot of prisons in Poptropica. Most of the time, prison security was a joke. Not so with Pelican Rock Prison! The year ended wonderfully with this island, which brought on a unique storyline with fantastic designs, particularly of the individual characters. Poptropica clearly worked hard on this island, and I believe this is the best island of 2015. 😛 (Catch the PHB’s review over here!)

That brings us to the next part: Poptropica’s milestones of 2015!

PHB Events

Look back through the parties, events, milestones, and even fan art contests! Here’s a slideshow of various PHB events we’ve had through the year:

This year was a big year for other reasons – namely a stronger reunion of the PHN.

UiPE bringing back a weekly series really helped out with inspiring the community again like Poptropican Portraits did once. Last year, HP reflected that he wanted the community to be more community centered, and in the past year we have gotten a lot of awesome community help. Trusty Biker helped out with the PHN website, Ylimegirl did a load of work on the Poptropica Wiki, and remember the fan art contests UiPE and HPuterpop held?

The Poppies was an awesome awards show – we really enjoyed seeing what you guys, the community, collectively preferred. We’re excited for next year!

We also joined forces with We-Love-Poptropica on deviantArt, the biggest Poptropica fan art community, fulfilling our goal to focus on the arts. Plus, starting in July, we picked up our Magazine series again, this time publishing The POPCORN in PDFs.

Here’s a timeline of some of our major events, too!

phb2015

Wow, a lot of things have come down in one year and things have gone so fast. Time really flies when you’re having fun, eh? It’s really a great time to reflect and ponder all of the things we’ve done this year.

Looking forward to the new year, here are a couple of our next aspirations:

  • A better glitch community. Free for all! (And more on the way!)
  • More active viewers – PHB lurkers, start commenting more on our posts! That’s the only way we can improve. 😀

Here at the PHB, it’s our privilege to bring you the best Poptropica news as we can. Hope y’all enjoyed this year-end recap! 2016 is going to be an awesome year!

🎇 Happy New Year, Poptropicans! 🎇

Snow on Home Island, Hula Hare, Realms, & more!

Hey Poptropicans!

First of all, it’s snowing on Home Island (and also on the PHB)! Fancy. The NPC (non-player character) in front of the Shop is wearing a costume that fluctuates between yeti and Jack Frost, and the other NPCs are carrying candy canes. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

If you take the blimp over to Poptropica Realms, there’s a new loading screen featuring Dr. Hare playing with a blue hula hoop! You can also see this in action with this link. So far, this only seems to appear before Realms is loaded. (Thanks to Happy Panda for the tip!)

DrHareHoolaHooping

Speaking of Realms, the Creators haven’t posted much in the way of Remarkable Realms as of late – until just recently, when they featured Loud Chicken’s “Esador Cityon the official blog! To visit this magnificent cityscape, use the Realms code 72pyj.

EsadorCity

It’s been almost a year since Poptropica updated their homepage layout, but if you ever want to go back to the classic layout where there was less clicking around to get to the game, Nice Hawk of Poptrickia recently shared this link that allows you to do just that:

If you prefer the original page, be sure to bookmark the link while it lasts!

There’s also a few things going on relating to the Poptropica graphic novel – the first volume, Mystery of the Map, will be released March 1, 2016 in bookstores, and if you’re a US resident, you can even enter this giveaway on Goodreads for a chance to win a copy of the book!

If you view the book on Amazon, you can also see what the book cover will look like (pictured below). (Ehh… the design could be better. 😛 ) Also, check out this wall decal of Oliver in Poptropica HQ that the Creators shared on Twitter!

Did you know you could read a preview of the graphic novel on this Poptropica page? But don’t worry, you can continue reading the whole thing over on the PHB’s Comics page!

Have you flipped through the latest PHB magazine, Issue #28 of The POPCORN? Poptropica recently gave us a shout-out, which gives even more reason for you to check it out!

Anyway, be sure to catch up on all the happenings below. Stay popping, Poptropicans! 😀

Escape from Pelican Rock Island, Photo Booth, Reality TV Island

Photo Booth Mugshots now a Reality

Attention all Poptropican prisoners –

This is not a drill. (It’s actually a hammer! 🔨 )

If you are a prisoner of Pelican Rock, promptly make your way to the new Photo Booth at the Main Street preview of Escape From Pelican Rock Island, which comes with new prison-themed templates, characters, backgrounds, and props. Try not to smile when your mugshot is being taken.

You will meet a host of other characters at our high-tech photo station, including the Booted Bandit, Big Tuna, Florian Fosbury, Patches, Ratchet, Tex Brannigan, Warden Sharp, and Escapee. Who are these people and why do they exist as both male and female? Stop asking so many questions, prisoner!

(You may have noticed in the EFPR Island preview that the NPCs’ genders are the same as your character’s, and it looks like this may continue in the rest of the island as well considering the Photo Booth characters. Check out this Daily Pop from last month for more!)

Poptropica also tweeted out another batch of early sketches of Reality TV Island characters. Here’s both the new one and the one they shared earlier (click to enlarge images):

Speaking of Reality TV Island, congratulations to Quick Dragon for being the first resident of the small Pacific Island nation of Vanuatu to place on the map (#1,817 worldwide), earning a shoutout on the Creators’ Blog! Beat the island today and you too can have a spot on the map.

Check out the posts below to know what else is going on in Poptropica!

Thanks for popping by, Poptropicans.

App, Home Island, Reality TV Island, Zomberry Island

Poptropica TV is here!

Hey Poptropicans!

If you’re an avid player of the Poptropica app, you may have already seen the Poptropica TV stand on Home Island. If you tap play, you’ll see a quick animation of dancing Zomberry zombies – which Poptropica also tweeted out a couple of weeks ago. (Thanks to Mad Apper for the tip and picture!)

Right now, it looks like this is only for the mobile app, but hopefully someday it’ll be brought to the online version as well.

Poptropica TV also promises to have new videos every week, a promise we’ll be checking back on, so stay tuned! The videos to come next are probably the ones on Poptropica’s YouTube channel, featuring a toon of Shark Guy and a Draw-My-Life of Gamer Guy. However, it’s been almost two months since these were announced, so who knows how long it’ll be before a new PopTV video! 😛

If you’ve been checking the Creators’ Blog, you probably noticed that Poptropica has recently flooded it with posts that offer cheats and walkthroughs for some of the more recent islands, presumably to bring some traffic to their blog. This master post lists all the links to their guide posts, but here they are below if you’d like to check them out:

They’ve answered some common questions about these island quests in these posts, and although the info is helpful and comes with clear screenshots, you won’t find complete walkthroughs. If that’s what you need, we have full walkthroughs for every island right here on the PHB! 😀

From the Creators’ files, Poptropica has also tweeted out some more early sketches from older islands! Check out this Twisted Thicket Island tree base, Wild West Island saloon, and character ideas for Reality TV Island!

You can also find pics like these in our Daily Pop Sneak Peek Archive.

Also, have you checked out the Poptropica Help subreddit yet? It’s a growing hub for all sorts of Poptropica tidbits – think of it as a minimalistic forum, or even PHF 2.0 for those of you who were around for our original Poptropica Help Forum. Don’t just be a lurker, join our subreddit!

For more details about the Poptropica Help subreddit and how it works, check out this PHB post for our announcement! It thrives on community, and all Poptropicans are welcome!

Stay popping, Poptropicans. 😉
