The episode opens on a foggy dayโbut not near Erewhon Prison. No, this is in a land far, far away from that rocky outcrop in the middle of a vast ocean. Tall grasses sway with the weight of dew in the evening fog, and the sound of sheep can be heard in the distance.
A young boy sits in the field, playing a tune on a fairly simple, small recorder, stopping every few notes to jot down in a notebook with a piece of charcoal. Itโs only got a few pages, which have been written over back and front and in every blank area. It looks as though he made it himself with whatever he could find.

Heya! The day that you have all been waiting forโ Zombies, Zombies, ALWAYS ZOMBIES. I might as well give you a brief introduction, but if you had missed the last chapter you can catch it here, or start from the beginning here. I also have some art that you can find here.
The story ended last time when Clumsy Bird, Witty Toothpick, and Jazzy Hawk got word that there were more people out there surviving, and that they would hold a meeting on Goofball Island, in the city hall. So they set their yellow blimp on course to that islandโฆ butโฆ someone is watching their every move. And the team knows nothing about it at all.ย
What happens next?
Youโll have to find out for yourself.
ZOMBIES, ZOMBIES, ALWAYS ZOMBIES!
A Zomberry Series
Episode Five: Goofing Off
It’s nearing morning.ย
The yellow blimp passes several peaceful fields, gliding through the crisp morning air, over dew-spangled grass. The sun, just peeking over the horizon of hills, is bright and pure.ย
And then there are the zombies.
They are a bright indigo color, and occasionally speckling the grass. But they are what turn this rather calm morning into something of a nightmare. The birds tweeting and calling are drowned out by the eerie moans and groans.
Clumsy Bird
Itโs MORNING? Isnโt this WONDERFUL?!
Clumsy Bird (or Birdy) seems extra cheerful this morning, perhaps because they were on their way to meet fellow survivors. She is bouncing around the small blimp, making it shake a little.
Witty Toothpick
Stop shaking the blimp! Itโs too early in the morning! *yawn*
Clumsy Bird sits down on the chair by the blimp’s steering wheel, and keeps bouncing her feet off the group.
Clumsy Bird
I canโt help it!! Iโm just TOO EXCITED!
Jazzy Hawk
Stop talking! Weโre tโ *yawn* tโtired.
Birdy
Well, too bad! Wake up! WAKE UP!!! I CANโT WAIT!
Hello. The last time we were with Friendly Thunder, he woke up in a diner, met Dizzy Claw, and encountered an enigmatic girl at the factory. Now let’s get started!
FADE IN.
We see FRIENDLY THUNDER, DIZZY CLAW, and ICY SNAKE sitting at the factory. DIZZY CLAW quickly sees something blue near a window. He grabs it. They’re blueprints!
Hey Poptropicans, this is a guest post by Silver Sword. Enjoy!
Hey Poptropicans! Before I start this new story, I just want to share with you that this fanfic idea is inspired by a comment from Magic Kid on another post of mine, The Story of White Cloud, Part 2. Now letโs begin.
It was a dark, starry night on Goofball Island. The stars didnโt light up anything in Dullsville, though, because it was so dull. Anna Gram had just become a detective, and she browsed the street for a mystery. She became hungry and hurried over to the Dusty Crust Bakery.
ANNA: โHello! Seen any mystery?!โ
Anna had just moved to Dullsville, but she had lived in Goofside for a while. So whenever she talked, she was super cheerful.
BAKER: โAll Iโve seen is bread. Want some?โ
ANNA: โWhy are you so dull?โ
BAKER: โWhy are you so goofy?โ
ANNA: โBecause Iโve been living in Goofside!โ
BAKER: โAnd Iโve been living in Dullsville. Now, would you like some bread or not?โ
ANNA: โYes!โ
The baker handed Anna some bread.
BAKER: โDonโt pay. Money is colourful.โ
Anna took a bite of the bread, or she would have, if she could bite it.
ANNA: โFirst mystery: find out why this bread is the opposite of normal!โ
To be continued…
