The three (or four) realms of ads

Hey Poptropicans, what’s popping?

If you head over to the map, you’ll find three new ads with prizes to play with! Everyone can play, of course, but members especially have a new incentive to play โ€” they get to keep these prizes even after the ad campaigns end.

The most extra of these new ads is a castleย for the upcoming Disney flick, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, in theaters November 12. Talk to the girl in the purple dress, Clara, to begin the game, wherein you jump over obstacles in some creepy woods to chase a mouse with a key. Plus, if you turn up your sound, you’ll hear the spooky version of the Monster Carnival Island theme in the background!

Upon completion, you’ll win two prizes: a Music Box handheld item and Soldier Transformation costume and power.

The Music Box, when activated, will send snow falling on your screen and play a twinkly “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.” The Soldier Transformation, besides being a costume, can also send out soldiers to run out by your orders.

Another ad going on โ€” and this one also with sound! โ€” is for Frosted Flakes, with the premise being “a concert in the park.” Talk to Tony the Tiger to start the game, which is like Guitar Hero but with cereal. With volume up, you’ll hear guitar riffs in the background.

Once you’ve successfully played your set, you’ll win a Tony Transform (which turns your character into Tony) and Cereal Rain, which sends various colors of Frosted Flakes falling down your screen.

One more ad, and this one’s simpler: LEGO Boost has video stall on Mythology Island. Watch the vid, and you’ll get a Robot Cat Follower. Meow.

And now for some ads of our own…

๐Ÿ The PHB’s 10th Annual Costume Competition: the Casual & the Creepy ๐ŸŽƒ (Win a Pop membership!)

PHB hallo10

Calling all Poptropicans! Have you got what it takes to dress your Poptropican up for the season? Then enter your costume into the Poptropica Help Blog’s 10th Annual Costume Competition! (Can you believe we’ve been doing this for ten years??)

This year we’re presenting two categories: the “Casual” for your everyday style as well as theย traditional “Creepy.” You can enter from Poptropica Original and/or Worlds!

Tips for a casual or creepy costume

As you put together your entry (or entries โ€” feel free to submit as many times as you like!), keep in mind the following:

  • ๐Ÿ Be original!ย Instead of just using all the parts of one costume that already exists, mix and match to create your own unique costume.
  • ๐ŸŽƒย For CREEPY VIBES:ย There are someย great Halloween costume partsย at the ghoul gathering from the end of theย Haunted Houseย quest from the Store, but be creative and search in other places too! We have tools like theย Avatar Studio Giftย (ASG) andย iPopย to help you find just the right parts you need.
  • ๐Ÿ˜Žย For CASUAL VIBES: In addition to our massive ASG collection, simply hopping about in other places can help you locate some cool pieces! Try the Home Island “New You” place, clothes from Night Watch Island mall stores like “In the Now,” as well as browsing your friends’ threads to see what they’ve got!
  • ๐Ÿ Keep your costume intactย until after the winners are announced on October 31 (Halloween). If you change your costume before then, we may not see it!ย If you donโ€™t want to keep the costume on your main account, you can create a new one and post the link to that instead. Or, send us aย screenshotย from theย Avatar Studioย in the same way as you see cropped on ourย ASG page. (Entries for Worlds will require a screenshot โ€” donโ€™t worry, itโ€™s a simple process!)
  • ๐ŸŽƒย Optional:ย Give your costume a groovy name.ย Itโ€™ll help your costume stand out even more, and if it wins, weโ€™ll refer to it by the name youโ€™ve given it!

How to enter your costume

Once you’ve assembled your costume on Poptropica, here’s how to share it with us:

  • ๐Ÿญย To post your entry forย Poptropica Original,ย go to theย Avatar Studio, type in your username, clickย Load, click on theย Linkย to highlight it, right-click and chooseย Copy. Then, go to the comments section right here onย this post, right-click and chooseย Paste, type in your comment (you can include your username if youโ€™d like to) and submit it, so we can view your costume by clicking the link!
  • ๐Ÿญย To post your entry forย Poptropica Worlds,ย go to your closet and take a screenshot (see instructions hereย for screenshotting on any computer or mobile device). Then, upload your screenshot on an image hosting website such asย imgurย orย TinyPic, copy the link to your image, and insert the link into your comment so we see it!

For both categories, you can submitย as many entriesย as you like, but if you do, make sure toย use multiple accountsย so that you donโ€™t overwrite the last costume you put on. Remember, though, you can only win aย maximum of one time for each game.

The contestย closesย on Tuesday,ย October 30. Winners will be announced October 31.

Winners & Prizes

  • ๐Ÿ‘ปย On Halloween (October 31), weโ€™ll make a post featuring the winning costumes on theย front page of the PHBย for all to see,ย *PLUS*ย 3 top winners will each receive aย one-month Poptropica membership, courtesy of the Poptropica Creators!
  • ๐Ÿ‘ปย The winning costumes will also beย immortalizedย on the PHBโ€™sย Costumes page, where you can see examples of past Halloween winners.
  • ๐Ÿ‘ปย Weโ€™ll haveย 10 winners totalย โ€“ 5 costumes for each category โ€“ as well as some honorary mentions for just the post, but not the page. Three top winners will be selected from among the ten.

๐Ÿ˜Ž๐ŸŽƒโœจย Happy Costumizing! โœจ๐ŸŽƒ๐Ÿ˜Ž

๐Ÿฆ‡ย P.S. If youโ€™re feeling especially artistic in this spooky season,ย be sure to participate inย this monthโ€™sย Community Creations. The theme for October is Villains!

Pop Petition: Free the Colorizer on Worlds for all

Hey Poptropicans! Here’s a guest post by Gentle Fang on how the Colorizer helped her express herself on Poptropica Original and why such a feature ought to be more accessible to all on Poptropica Worlds. Check it out, and enjoy. ~ ๐Ÿ

Pop Petition Header

Hey guys! Itโ€™s Gentle Fang! If you have never heard of me, I did my own MPIP back in 2017 about a year ago, and also wrote a guest post about several islands in 2016. I have been playing Poptropica for about 6 years now (not all that consistently), and I really enjoy exploring islands and getting involved in the community.

As I have been playing for quite some time, I found that I had completed almost all the islands and had little left to do. As such, when Poptropica Worlds was first announced, I wasย overjoyed.ย I was so happy they were finally going to make new islands, add new material, and improve upon the characters.

When I got around to playing the new Poptropica Worlds once it came out, however, I found that I was underwhelmed. First off, talk about bad first impressionsโ€”the game took FOREVER to load. I had always been able to switch from scene to scene in a second on Poptropica Original, but I found that on Worlds it took quite some time.

When I was finally able to get into my closet to change my character, I was quite upset to find that the Colorizer โ€” one of my favorite parts of Poptropica Original โ€” was for members only. (Well, non-members get a few pre-selected colors for free. But that’s nothing compared to Poptropica Original.)

popworlds summer update 4

My style is what sets me apart from the crowd. For years, I’ve had an outfit that was a mixture of all my favorite costumes, a little pet cat I called Buttons, and most importantly myย bright turquoise hair. That hair color was the only thing about me that never changed. Hairstyles change (in real life, I recently cut off over 6 inches of hair). My outfit is almost constantly being modified (for some reason I went through a phase where I dressed like a police officer). My character also sometimes has glasses, and recently got freckles. The entire look was my way of expressing myself.

Most of my characterโ€™s traits represented something about my personality: her diva outfit showed my dramatic personality, her occasional glasses represented that although I need glasses I hardly ever wear them, and the new freckles reflected the ones that appeared on my actual face. But the hair didnโ€™t represent my physical state โ€” it represented my boldness.

Although I am not currently allowed to dye my hair, I know brightly colored hair would turn heads. Thatโ€™s what I like to do โ€” I am not someone who enjoys blending in or staying in the crowd. I wasnโ€™t allowed to get a membershipย on any gaming sites because my parents didnโ€™t trust technology that much, so I couldnโ€™t buy anything that only members received. This meant I only had a minuscule amount of clothes and accessories to choose from. Since the Colorizer was free for everyone on Poptropica Original, and came with a wide array of colors, I was sucked in.

Six years of turquoise hair later, I was more than disappointed when my favorite color was taken away too, becoming a privilege only given to members. Of course, I attempted to get my mother to agree to buy me a membership, to no avail. I know that there are other kids or teenagers like me who cannot purchase a membership for whatever reason, but that doesnโ€™t mean they shouldnโ€™t be able to express themselves.

I understand that memberships make the company money to keep Poptropica free. But I also think that things that were not under lock and key in Poptropica Original should remain that way in Worlds.

So, in closing, I would like to propose that the Poptropica Worlds Colorizer to ought to be accessible in its entirety to everyone.

This nifty tool is something that I quite enjoyed for more than half my life, and I would be very upset if it was removed from the game permanently for players without membership. I would very much like for this amazing tool to be made free for all.

Thanks so much for listening.

โ€”Gentle Fang

Pirated from previous items: a store stock update

Hey Poptropicans! New things are in store… literally. As we near the end of the month, it’s time for the store stock to change! (In case you missed it, yes,ย that’s a thing now.)

As usual, it’s a case of old items resurfacing, and this time around, in honor of International Talk Like A Pirate Day, we’ve got quite a few pirate costumes going around. Among the assortment also are various knights, dragons, and more. โ˜ ๏ธโš”๏ธ๐Ÿ‰ย Take a look!

About 40% of the current gold cards are for members only, including the formerly free Prepare for Impact! mini-game, which still has the (now inaccurate) “Free+” label. ๐Ÿ‘€

Four of the six available costumes (the names and colors of which may vary by gender) are for members only. The girls’ version of the members-only Pirate Captain is quite similar to the Captain Crimson gold card, available now and not just for members. โ˜ ๏ธ

  • Dragon (comes in blue, green, and purple)ย (members only)

In other news…

  • The Poptropica Creators celebrated International Talk Like A Pirate Day* with a party in the Broken Barrel common room on Skullduggery Island, at about 3 p.m. EST on Wednesday, September 19. (*Aye, but Krispy Kreme ain’t givin’ out a dozen free donuts no more, so really, what’s the point, mate? Ok, that’s all the pirate-talk for this post…)

talk2blike2ba2bpirate2bday

  • Something new is coming… for members! (Yup, once again disappointing the majority of players…) At the end of the Creators’ latest post about the Smallfoot ad, they wrote, “Stay tuned to learn about the newest membership benefit coming to Poptropica!”
  • The deadline for Poptropica’s Halloween costume design contest has passed, so we can hope to hear back soon about the winning design!
  • For all levels of artists, the PHB’s Community Creations is always open for your creations! Our theme this month of September is music.

That’s all for now! Keep ‘tropping on, pop-cans.

Frosted Smallfoot, LEGO mammoth (three ads)

Hey Poptropicans! Brace yourselves for a chill, because right now Poptropica is hosting three pretty frosty ads! (Unless you’re also counting that ever-obtrusive ad for Poptropica on Poptropica, which really needs to just go. Anyway…)

You can find all of these ads with their own icons on the map. (There are also a couple other ads we covered earlier: Next Gen and Froot Loops.) Let’s take a look!

Smallfoot is an animated movie in theaters September 28, and for the ad, you can win a Snow Ball handheld item (with space bar to throw) by first watching the video, then playing a game. To beat the game, simply move your cursor to help Smallfoot avoid crashing into anything as he makes a long descent!

Frosted Flakes is a cereal by Kellogg’s, and its ad takes you to an area where, once inside, you’ll be wearing a bike helmet (not a separate item, though). The gist of the game is to click-and-hold to jump over various obstacles strewn along a suburban street as you cycle through as Tony the Tiger.

At the end, you’ll be awarded a Tony Follower and Cereal Toss (power and handheld). If the cereal box hits a Poptropican when thrown, it’ll bounce off of them.

LEGO City is a line of LEGO products that includes a helicopter mammoth missionโ€”the focus of this ad, earlier rumored to be made into its own island. To play the game, head inside the building and hop into the chopper. The rules are simple: avoid the obstacles, but pick up the green batteries for an energy boost.

Once you reach the legendary mammoth, you’ll win two prizes: an Explorer Suit (which can send down snow with the press of the space bar) and Helicopter Follower.

These aren’t the only games around on Poptropica! As mentioned in the post below, Dr. Hare’s Secret Lab is also back for a limited time, from now until Monday, September 17. You can find it on the map, or access it through its item card if you grabbed it before it left the store several months ago with the store update. There’s a new Rabbot costume to be hadโ€”though it’s not an item card, just something you can Costumize. ๐Ÿค–

Browse below for all the latest happenings on Poptropica! Keep popping on, ‘tropicans.
