Hello! I'm Slanted Fish, the editor-in-chief and creator of the Poptropica Help Blog (PHB). I'm a writer, Hong Kong native, and Christ follower. My Poptropica username is slantedfish ๐ Don't forget to be awesome!
You might’ve guessed that yesterday’s post introducing a brand new Poptropica gaming experience, titled “Smash! Crackle! POP!”, was an April Fools’ prank. But if you didn’t, we’re popping that bubble for good: as smashing as it would be, we don’t have any plans to make a Poptropica-style Smash Bros spin-off. We hope it at least made you crack a smile, though. (And yes, the name is inspired by the mascots of Rice Krispies.)
The PHB team did put in some thought into creating the idea of the game, though, so even if you missed it, we hope you’ll still check out our prank post! Gentle Dolphin especially worked hard on making illustrations of fighters, including the roster of PHB staff that’s available as downloadable content (DLC), and a battle arena of Mount Olympus.
Thanks for sticking around with the PHB amid our shenanigans. We’re still committed to being your go-to source for the latest and greatest in Poptropica news, and we’re still hoping to see Poptropica committed to bringing us an excellent game experienceโpreferably in the form of islands, but hey, some Legendary Swords-style battle would be pretty cool, too. Until next time! โ๏ธ
From pets to clubhouses to arcades, you’ve probably noticed that, these days, Poptropica has been trying to branch out beyond islands. And now, we’re excited to announce a brand new Poptropica gaming experience.
We’ve been working behind-the-scenes on a BIG project, and we’re finally ready to show you the details. Introducing…
“Smash! Crackle! POP!” is the fist-smashing, bone-crackling, enemy-popping fighting experience with all your favorite Poptropica characters thrown in. It’s like Poptropica meets Super Smash Bros. Or, it’s like the Legendary Swords battle arena we’ve all been waiting for. It’s going to be awesome. Are you ready??? Cue the sneak peeks…

This is a guest post written by Trusty Leopard, a Poptropican whoโll be sharing a tribute to a favorite villain, Myron Van Buren of Survival Island. Enjoy!
Hello everyone! My name is Trusty Leopard and this is my first ever guest post on this awesome blog. I hope you enjoy this article about my favorite and perhaps one of the most craziest antagonists in Poptropica.
Myron Van Buren (MVB) is the bad guy of Survival Island, a five-part Poptropica adventure that I loved. Van Buren is a cool-looking villain with his hunting clothes, tooth necklace, safari hat, crossbow and creepy smile along with a facial scar to complete the look. A great design, if you ask me.
His catchphrase, โTally-ho!โ is something that I have started using. It just sounds really cool. When I first saw Van Buren and the description for Survival Island, I had some idea of what it might be about, and the villain’s plans. But I figured Poptropica wouldn’t do something like that in a kids’ game, so I was interested to see what exactly MVB’s plans were. Little would I or anyone else have known they did go there.
In the first three episodes, you donโt actually see a bad guy, just someone watching you with cameras after you successfully complete the first two episodes. Pretty creepy.
With the third episode comes your rescue in a sweet-looking helicopter. Your rescuer is big game hunter Myron Van Buren, who lives in a huge mansion with just his chef and butler Winston. (Seems a bit strange to me.) When you tell him you just really rather go home, he insists you mustn’t miss the big hunt tomorrow and just basically wonโt let you leave. Totally not a red flag at all.
He acts all nice, showing you his animal trophy collection, but then he makes a ghoulish joke about Winston being another one of his trophies.
But Van Buren laughs it off and tells Winston to go ask the chef to prepare dinner. Winston responds with โYes, mโlord.โ Definitely not normal…
Once you eat the steak, you pass out and wake up locked in a room. That note was absolutely right when it said, โDonโt trust MVB!โ
When you finally make your escape, he tells you that you are the quarry for the hunt. O.M.G. Things then cut to an epic mini-game where youโre running from Van Burenโs arrows and his hounds chasing you. I mean for goodness’ sake, heโs a human hunter!
It was a truly fun and exciting twist for an island that was a bit slow in the first three parts and then just exploded once you got to parts four and five.
The idea for this island came from the 1924 short story “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, a tale about a big game hunter named General Zaroff who hunts people who get trapped on his island, just like Van Buren did. I was genuinely surprised that Poptropica did something a little dark for a kids’ game.
Even though it was a bit shocking, it was quite fun to play. The mini-game when running from Van Buren was fantastic, in my opinion. The music during the game was suspenseful, catchy, and added to the whole storyline gracefully. In fact, the music for all the parts of the island fit perfectly. My favorite was the “Escape!” episode music. While gathering the supplies for a trap and trying not to get caught, that tune was excellent to play.
Creepy…
The ending of the island was truly in Poptropican fashion. With the cage trap all set, you blow the whistle hoping to get Van Burenโs attention. Instead, he sneaks up behind you and scares you so that you are the one that falls back in the trap! When you ask why he likes to hunt humans, he says he just loves the thrill of the hunt. That is messed up.
Now I know how wild animals feel when they are the ones being hunted. Not fun. Although I knew my Poptropican would live it was still scary watching that scene unfold, never have I seen a more psychotic villain. (Zeus is just really annoying, but it comes close.) Before Van Buren can shoot you and add another trophy to his creepy collection, Max McGullicutty comes in and saves the day on the bear you freed while hunting for trap equipment. You basically high-jump kick Van Buren so he gets trapped in the water tread and ends up being slapped by two beavers on the bottom. Leaving him there for a taste of his own medicine, you exit on the helicopter with Max and watch a beautiful rainbow sunset completed with sweet music. That nightmare is finally over.
This island is one of my favorites and always will be. I love seeing fan art for this island and reading articles about how he is one of the scariest villains in Poptropica. If Survival Island ever makes it into Worlds, they should find a way to make the first three episodes a little more fun and not so tedious. Add some arrows from his crossbow sticking out in trees as you continue along. Put more escape-like mini-games in the final parts. More history about Van Burenโs family would be cool too.
One other thing I would love is if MVB is added to a new version of Super Villain Island. Have Van Buren be one of the villains whose dreams you have to go inside in order to recover an evil totem. If only Survival had come out before Super Villainโit might just have happened. But I can always hope that if Worlds does add a Super Villain Island, they would add this crazy dude to it.
Well thatโs it, my post about my absolute most favorite super crazy bad dude of Poptropica! I hoped you enjoyed it. Tally-ho!

This is a guest post written by Spotted Thunder, a Poptropican whoโll be sharing her original “Popsonas,” or Poptropica personas (characters). Enjoy!
Oh hey everyone! Today I will be sharing my some of heroes, created in Poptropica, whom I call the Dragon Keepers of Lightning and Ice. (I’ve got more characters up my sleeve, but we’ll start with the main ones.) Let’s get into it!
Spotted Thunder
Perhaps one of the most experienced magic users out there in Poptropica, Spotted Thunder comes from a family of humans and elves, including her aunt, Lumia, the elf of water and fire.
She doesnโt know which island she came from, but was raised on Mystery of the Map Island. At some point, she was taken by Zeus, who gave her the golden spearโSTโs first magical item. These days, she lives on Home Island with her magical pets, ready to protect Poptropica from whatever dark life lives out there.
Fearless Dragon
Fearless Dragon was born in a world of elves, where she learned how to use her acacia wand. She doesnโt know why she had to leave the elf world to come to Poptropica, but she did know it was important.
Fearless Dragon became friends with Spotted Thunder, not knowing she was related to her as a cousin, the only daughter of Spotted’s aunt Lumia.
Fearless has a pet, a light fury named Pelus. She spends much of her time flying to the hidden world and protecting dragon life from fizzing out.
Speedy
Speedy Coyote comes from a rich family. Heโs a huge fan of Speedy Catfish (aka Thinknoodles) so he dresses up like him.
Born on Home Island, Speedy has traveled all around Poptropica, but his favorite place is Camp Keepers, a summer camp for Dragon Riders. Speedy is a gifted Rider whose main weapon is his Enchanted Sword, which cuts the desires of the heart.
Icy Bird
Icy Bird discovered Camp Keepers when his blimp crashed into the forest nearby. Prophesied to hold the power of ice and defeat a strong evil force, Icy still doesnโt have a dragon, but heโs a great rider, or that’s what he thinks. Icy Birdโs main weapon is his bronze sword that transforms from his pen (which comes with a lid).
Icy Bird is also in the same class as Fearless, Speedy and Spotted at school.
And those are my main Dragon Keepers! Let me know in the comments what you think, and whether you’d like to hear more about them. I’ve written some chapters about this crew, and I’m thinking of adding some PHB staff into the stories as well.
Finally, I’d like to give huge credits to ANNE14TCO for the inspiration behind the Dragon Keepers. ST out!

This is a guest post written byย Red Tomato, a Poptropican whoโll be sharing a โPop 5โ list of Poptropica characters who take up too much of the spotlight among the fan community. Enjoy!
Hi everyone! It’s Red Tomato and today I have the sequel to my Pop 5: Most Underrated Characters from last week. This list is all about the overrated charactersโthe ones who get a little too much attention. Let’s go!
#5: Zeus
Zeus aka Spruce aka Moose aka Santa Claus is the Greek god who is the main villain of Mythology, Super Villain, and Greek Sea Odyssey. This deity is probably one of the most popular characters in the fan community. It’s easy to see why, though! Just look at that beard!
#4: Balloon Boy
No, not the one from “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” but the kid from Counterfeit Island! Ever since you gave that a boy a balloon and he floated away, we’ve caught glimpses on him, still in the sky, in the island adventures that followed. Is he still up there? We may never know….
#3: *gasp* Your character?
Think about it… most of the fan art and fanfics in the Pop fandom are about somebody’s own Poptropica character! (Also known as someone’s “Popsona,” or Poptropica persona.) Anyway, my Poptropican (Red Tomato ๐ ) is very happy to make it on this list!
#2: Dr. Hare
Ah yes, the first Poptropica villain besides the Early Pop spiders and Booga shark. This furryโI mean, mad scientistโgets second most overrated because, well, he’s everywhere! His hometown island, 24 Carrot, was re-made twice: once for SUI format on Pop Original and more recently on Pop Worlds. He also appears on the Daily Pops, in countless fan art pieces, and even Super Villain Island!
And now… the number one most overrated Poptropica character is…
THE CRAB FROM TIME TANGLED!!!
JUST KIDDING!
#1: Shark Boy (aka Shark Guy)
It was tough to pick between this guy and Dr. Hare, but I think Sharky deserves the #1 spot because this guy has been around longer than Dr. Hare. And don’t forget the whole Mystery of Shark Boy drama! Shark Boy, do do do do do do do…
Well, that was my Pop 5 list of most overrated Poptropicans! This post is not meant to be negative, but rather to point out some of the more popular characters. Bye!
