Stolen Snapshots

Someone’s stealing snapshots… (Round Two!)

roundtwo

Welcome everyone to the second round of Stolen Snapshots!

roundtwointro

For the newbies, Stolen Snapshots is basically a hide-and-seek game that tests your knowledge of Poptropica scenery, and it’s up to you to guess where each picture is from!

I’ve seen that a lot of you had a hard time guessing those tricky snapshots that I’ve left last month. What’s more depressing is that none had perfected the snapshots! I wouldn’t want you to wait this long so, here are the answers for last month’s snapshots!

Answers for April 2016:

  1. 24 Carrot Island, a recolored version of the carrot cake in the billboard in front of the factory.
  2. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Island, one of the hanging pots inside the Inventing Room.
  3. Mocktropica, a painting inside the common room: The Blue Locust.
  4. Red Dragon Island, in East Edo, the bird on top of the shogun statue.
  5. Vampire’s Curse Island, inside a hole in the Great Hall (accessed by members only).
  6. Night Watch Island, near the shark tank inside Crawl Mart.
  7. Mocktropica, on top of the cheese factory.
  8. Shrink Ray Island, one of the windows in the cafeteria.
  9. Virus Hunter Island, Joe Stockman’s stove in his apartment.
  10. Monster Carnival Island, one of the crates in front of the big tent.

Here are *some* of the winners from last month. Since there was none who guessed them all correctly, here are the ones who guessed at least one correct answer! Congratulations!

  1. Tall Cactus with 1 correct answer!
  2. Short Feather with 1 correct answer!
  3. Pinku Randomness with 2 correct answers!
  4. Creepy Goose with 6 correct answers!

Another thing: I want to ask is that if you guys prefer to have this monthly or biweekly. I am considering this so that a lot of people can play Stolen Snapshots because if it’ll be monthly, the game could get buried underneath a lot of posts. If it’s biweekly, it’ll be quite hard when school gets busy, but it’ll be better for you guys. Would you like it to be that way or nah? Leave your suggestions below!

Now, let’s move on to this month. Ten snapshots might’ve been too difficult, so I’ve reduced the number down to 5 — although, the number of snapshots may vary each month!

Stolen Snapshots: May 2016

Make sure to read the mechanics down below, as well as the reward for correctly guessing them all!

Mechanics:

  1. You are only allowed to have 1 answer for each picture. You may leave your guesses in the comments of the post or the PHB’s Stolen Snapshots page.
  2. If the answer is wrong, you can try and comment again.
  3. There are 5 winners each month, to be featured in the next post.
  4. Anything unrelated to the snapshots will not be accepted.
  5. Of course, enjoy the game!

Reward 🏆

Check back next month to see if you made it to the Top 5! All of the winners will get a chance to be immortalized on the Stolen Snapshots page, right here on the PHB!

So, decide the fate of Stolen Snapshots by commenting down below and you can now start guessing in 3…2…1… GO! 🙂

My Place in Poptropica

My Place in Poptropica: Teen Arachnid

This is the My Place in Poptropica story of TeenArachnid, aka Happy Panda, who enjoys participating within the PHB community. See the bottom of this post for details on sending in your own MPIP!

MPIP-TeenArachnid

Hello Poptropicans! It is I, Teen Arachnid (previously known as Happy Panda)! This is my MPIP post. My name is Teen Arachnid, but my PHB account is teenarachnidpoptropica. Anyway, I love Poptropica, Flipline, Marvel, DC Comics, and Lego. Oh yeah, and I love the PHB! Also, I am not the actual Teen Arachnid from PoptropiCon Island. Well, here we go:

2009-2010 | The Discovery

For me, it started when I was in my gifted class during kindergarten. Some fifth graders introduced me to the Duck Song, Duck Life, and… POPTROPICA! Now really quickly, I want to thank them for showing it to me, or I wouldn’t be on Poptropica today. Now where was I, oh yes! I created a weird account, with a weird username I can’t remember. But for a 6 year old, I kicked butt while playing Poptropica!

2011-2012 | The Crappy Computer

Since I couldn’t remember my username, I created a new account. I was still in love with Poptropica at this age, but sadly, I could hardly play it at that time. My parents had a very old computer, and if I was on Poptropica for 10 minutes, the computer would freeze up and stop working for an hour. I could only play it for about 30 minutes a week, which is very little time for me. So in that time, I played games that didn’t make my computer crash: games from Flipline Studios. I highly recommend that gaming site to you.

2013-2014 | New Computer, New Accounts, and the Best Discovery

Fortunately, my parents eventually fixed the computer so I could play Poptropica longer than I could previously. I created four accounts, but right now I can only remember the usernames and passwords for two of them. But anyway, during this time, I was able to complete many islands.

One day, I was stuck on Time Tangled Island. So I got online, and after a quick search, I found what I considered one of my best discoveries: the Poptropica Help Blog! I created a WordPress account (to comment on blogs like the PHB) called Jugger Kid, and if you look in the PHB archives from 2013-14, you may find some comments from me!

2015 | PHB Fanboy

I began to love the PHB so much that I would find myself on the PHB about ten times a day. For a while I commented under the name Blazeberry Comma, but after a while I decided I didn’t like it so much. So I renamed myself Happy Panda, my Poptropican’s name.

During the PHB’s first ever Poppies event, I got a couple mentions on the Poppies broadcast. Also, I was that one guy who put whoopee cushions all of the Multiverse Room during the Poptropica party! I also got one of my stories in the PHB’s Popcorn magazine (issue #25, if you’d like to see it), which was a huge honor for me. Finally, I contributed a picture to the PHB’s Escape From Pelican Rock Guide (the one with the bar that told you where the cop was while you were in your cell).

2016 – beyond | So Far This Year, and Future Dreams

So far this year, I got my Poptropican in a PMFM post (Round 9, to be exact)!

Happy Panda
Happy Panda

So yeah. Also, if you want to add me, my current account name is >jagger< . If you want to add my previous accounts, they are: toto11623, paul11623, canhe99, and toycan. Right now, I comment on the PHB under a couple of names: Teen Arachnid (for home) and Happy Panda (for other places).

My biggest dream is to one day become a PHB author, but it probably won’t happen. But like William Arthur War says: “If you can imagine it, you can achieve it; if you can dream it, you can become it.”

Hope you enjoyed this “My Place in Poptropica” story! Feel free to send in your own (please include a minimum of 550 words, type with good spelling and grammar, divide it into labeled sections, and include your username). Look out for more community MPIPs in the future!

Guest Posts, Our Discovery Island

Our Discovery Island on mobile!

(Hey guys! This is a guest post by TechWizard, who wants to tell us about Our Discovery Island being turned into an app. Let’s check out some of the new stuff! –Slippery 🐊)

Hoi Poptropicans! TechWizard here not with a developer post but with something completely different! *cue booing*

Oh, hold your boos. You’re going to either love or hate this because I’ve found Poptropica’s educational clone, Our Discovery Island… on mobile*more booing*

But wait, what’s so special about this? Well, it’s called Poptropica English, despite other Poptropica English apps in existence. However, it’s quite like desktop ODI!

Capture

The app contains few, but significant changes from the desktop version:

  • In the desktop version, it’s called “Our Discovery Island” but now, the app is called “Poptropica English Island Game“. It is probably because of the change of management from Pearson to Sandbox.
  • In the app, everyone can now experience the game through a free trial. The trial ends after few scenes. If you have your account from the desktop version, you can also use it to play the full version.
  • You can also play the different games (Quiz, Match Cards, and etc.) from the menu!
  • Item names are now capitalized rather than in lowercase.
  • It now runs on the same game engine as the Poptropica app from the character customization and interface!
  • Although, the islands are still the same— from the quests, gameplay and to the voices.

You can check out the game on Apple or Android devices by downloading it from the App Store or Google Play.

Well, time to go crawl back to the hole I reside in! *cue piano music* We’ll meet again, don’t know where and I don’t know when! Oh, I know we’ll meet again, some sunny day!

PHB Sneak Peeks

PHB Sneak Peeks: the Card-Carrying Gamers (and more)

Hey, Poptropicans!

Mighty Gamer here with a really cool behind-the-scenes post. Credit goes to idk for these sweet sneak peeks you are about to witness straight from the Poptropica files!

Mighty Action Force Card Game Room (whew, was that long)

Home Island will have a room dedicated to the card game from PoptropiCon, and guess what? There will even be new cards added to the deck! Here’s a super cool video of the unfinished room thus far, which you can watch by clicking here.

Also, by opening this xml file, you can find the card names and what group they belong to. Each card also has its own store card, which you can find in the html file, as well.

Utah McDiggs… the Poptropican Indiana Jones?

There’ll also be a card manager popup, which you can view here. I don’t know about you, but the idea of a new room gets me excited! Maybe this’ll be out sometime soon! Here’s the card manager:

Anywho, enough with this part. Onto some different sneakaroos…

Pearson Flashlight

There’s also the Pearson Flashlight, which you can see the Poptropican below holding. This item sure does scream Zomberry, doesn’t it? At least, it does to me. 😛

This flashlight can turn different colors, and not just 1, or 2, or 3 – but 5 colors! It can turn purple, a green…ish color, blue, white, and the default color – orange. Not half bad for a flashlight, huh?

This particular blue is my favorite out of the 5 colors, what about you? I’ll leave it to you to decide. Here are the colors. Let me know your opinion in the comments below. I’d love to hear them!

Poptropica “Bio”

At one point or another, a “bio” of sorts was being considered for our characters. I don’t know to what extent this would affect the gameplay, but we do have this photo of the short bio meant to be for our Poptropicans:

profile

Yes, we could have filled in information for our favorite food, favorite color, our pets, and hobbies. But what are “score” and “rank” for? As you can see, the rank filled in is “Greenbeak”, whatever that means. We’ll probably never know now, assuming this is an idea that was discarded.

Music Mixer

And then there’s the Music Mixer…

musicmixer

(The colored circles aren’t meant to be there, but there was a glitch.)

The music mixer… who knows what the Creators were initially thinking? As we can see, it was a tool for making music – perhaps like the machine in the Nanobots tribe room, before they came up with the current design (pictured below).

Or it could’ve been for something else, like the Jazz Cafe on Counterfeit Island. It could’ve even been for a room that never came to be. There’s no way to know for sure. Another mystery of Poptropica…

Onto the final sneakaroo!

Credit Requester

And finally, we have the credit requester…

credits request

I believe this was originally going to be for the “Account Settings” we have before the idea was abandoned. I guess this idea was an old one, because where it says “Earn free credits”, it says “Get 100 free credits for each island you solve!” – and we all know it’s been a long time since those days.

As you can see in the picture, you could send email requests to people (such as parents) asking them to buy you credits. Along with that, it gives an option to “buy credits with your credit card” (which was partially cut off).

One last thing: I’m assuming that this was considered before membership and its benefits, because why would you need to buy credits (with real money) when you can get everything for free with membership? You used to be able to, but the option was removed not long after membership became a thing.

Well, that’s all for this post! What do you think? Like or dislike? Let me know in the comments below.

Adventure Pig Through the Looking Glass

Hey Poptropicans!

There’s a new ad on Home Island for Disney’s Alice Through the Looking Glass, a film coming to theaters this Friday. Watch the trailer and you’ll win a Cheshire Cat Follower! Girls will also get an Alice Costume while boys will get the (Mad) Hatter Costume. Creepy, or snazzy? 😸🎩

Anyway, thanks goes to Purple Claw and Cool Dolphin for the pictures.

In other news, pigs can now fly! Wait, what? That is, in Adventure Pig, the latest creation from Poptropica’s new parent company, StoryArc Media. Despite the similar graphics, it seems it is not related to Poptropica after all. This physics-based mobile game can be downloaded on iOS and Android, but only in Ireland and the Netherlands (it will be made available worldwide soon!).

Check out the trailer video, which uses music from Poptropica’s Monster Carnival Island:

By the way, if you’ve been keeping up with our ASG page (Avatar Studio Gift) here on the PHB, you may notice that we frequently add new ASGs to our collection! Recently we’ve added a couple of pieces of Crisis Caverns Clothing (from the upcoming underground island!), Dummy Dress-ups (which are not cloneable ASGs, but dummies you can copy from!), and lots more in other categories! Check it out!

But that’s not the only cheat-ridden way of accessing cool costumes these days! The PHB’s Cheats page now lists another tool that can allow you to easily modify your character’s clothing, account items, and much more – but in the interest of keeping it in the down-low, we don’t want to say too much here. Those of you who use the PHC may already be familiar with it as it’s been around for a while. 😉

If you’re interested, look for it on our Cheats page (hint: it starts with an “i” and ends in a “Pop”).

Until next time – stay popping, Poptropicans!
