Do You Know Poptropica Islands in 140 Characters or Less?

Earlier this month, the PHB launched PopFeedz โ€“ a Poptropica parody of Buzzfeed โ€“ which we later revealed was anย April Foolsโ€™ prank. Since many of you enjoyed the posts, we are re-posting a few of them on the PHB this month for people to re-visit or to enjoy for the first time!ย

Are you ready for a challenge?

Take our quiz to find out if you can identify a Poptropica island with a short description the length of a tweet,ย 140 characters or less, by clicking here. Think carefully!

Here are a few testimonials from our original post, to show you just how much others in the community know (or don’t know) across the board!

From Maroon Popper:

9/10 yay!
I only failed one because I didnโ€™t read it through properly. ๐Ÿ˜‚

From Hyper Gamer:

Oops 6/10. Guess I donโ€™t know that much.

From Red Rider:

10/10 and I barely play anymore!

Pop 5: Most Dangerous/Scary Islands

(Hey Poptropicans! This is a guest post written by Magic Snowball, a Poptropica player in the community. Please note that this post represents onlyย the author’s opinion, and contains some spoilers for some Poptropica islands.ย Enjoy! โ€“๐Ÿ )

pop5 scary islands

Hey everyone! Itโ€™s me, Magic Snowball, that weirdo who hangs around the Poptropica community. And today Iโ€™m here to do a Pop 5 – my first guest post! What’s the topic, you ask? I presentโ€ฆ

Poptropica’s Top 5 Most Dangerous/Scary Islands! *cue dramatic music*

Of course, all the islands on this list are going toย involve somethingโ€ฆ er, dangerousโ€ฆ and scary. Like going inside somewhere dangerous, getting jump-scared (Jersey Devil, anyone?) and so on. And yes, I know Poptropicans are basically OP super-humans, but still, they do some pretty crazy stuffโ€ฆ

So let’s begin the Pop 5!

#5: Twisted Thicket Island

twisted thicket2

Behold! The island where you must travel into this creepy forest, get beaten up by all these creatures, then save the forest and creatures that beat you up! So, why did I choose this island? Well, firstly, itโ€™s not only dangerous, but scary. I mean, look at the Nรธkken! That thing is nightmare is fuelโ€ฆ *shivers* And, like I said, you get beat up by these other woodland creatures, and then you have to stop an entire team of construction vehicles! If that isnโ€™t dangerous, I donโ€™t know what is.

Poptropica rates this island easy, and it might be, but itโ€™s definitely still scary and dangerousโ€ฆ *hides from the Nรธkken*

#4: Astro-Knights Island

tumblr_inline_msf7q586ax1qz4rgp

Aliens, frustration, flying in zero-gravity! What could be more fun than that? This island, according to many people (myself included) isย one of the hardest to complete. And itโ€™s also pretty dangerous. I mean, youโ€™re flying into space to save a princess from a half-robot creepo. And space is not fun. There are things trying to kill you on every planet (except for the Pewter Moon), and even in the space around them.

This isnโ€™t the scariest island, but creatures like the Mother Phoenix are pretty creepyย (to me at least). This islandโ€™s a little too dangerous to be left off the list, but itโ€™s not the most terrifying. En garde!

#3: Survival Island

survival-info-03

Survival Island! This five-part island is full of fun things like being chased by a psychopath, then catching said psychopath! Now, this island doesnโ€™t have the traditional “scary” things like monsters or flaming meteorites, butย it is realistic. Thereโ€™s the element of survival (well, duh), hunting, and animals. You always have to be on the move, and you canโ€™t trust anyone. Thatโ€™s why I consider it pretty dangerous. Plus, you’ve got someone hunting you and so they can stuff you in their trophy collection, which is pretty messed up!

#2: Virus Hunter Island

vh6

Welcome to Glitch Island – uh, I mean, Virus Hunter Island! Guess what, kids? Youโ€™re not a trained pilot. So what happens? You get to drive through someoneโ€™s body in a microscopic ship to stop a killer virus! Isnโ€™t that awesome?

Alright, seriously, this island is pretty scary and dangerous. You’re stopping a killer virus from killing every human on Earth. Plus, the virus itself is pretty scary. I donโ€™t wanna talk โ€˜bout itโ€ฆ weโ€™ll just say the island is full of danger. PDC, green spider-like killers, dangerous grape soda, electric nerves, falafelโ€ฆ the list goes on!

And now, itโ€™s time for the most dangerous, most scary island on allllll of Poptropicaโ€ฆ.

*drumroll* It’s…

#1: Mythology Island

mythology-cerberus

Okay, this island and Virus Hunter had me a bit stumped, but in the end I chose this island to top the list, โ€˜cause itโ€™s just that dangerous, and the peril you’re inย feels worse (though itโ€™s still really close). Dude. Anywayโ€ฆ. You arrive on this island, where thereโ€™s gods and creatures and stuff. You go to a tree, and pick an apple. Then, Santa Claus – uh, Zeus – shows up, and offers you immortality! But first, you have to get some stuff for him so he can take over Poptropica, but you donโ€™t realize. Yay!

So you, a mortal, do a bunch of dangerous things, like enter the Labyrinth where barely anyone survives. According to mythology, anyway. Oh, not dangerous enough? Then you have to go to the freaking Underworld, and put flipping Cerberus to sleep, as well as crossing the River Styx. And it gets worse! At the end, you have to fight a god – not just anyone, but the king of the gods. Nuts, huh? Too many times you could die on this island.

If you don’t beat Zeus, all of Poptropica is screwed! Thatโ€™s scary in itself. Plus, there are some other creepy things on this island, like those Hercules fan girls. Oh, and the Underworld, the sphinx, the minotaur, the hydra, and it goes onโ€ฆ

Alright guys! Those islands were the Pop 5 of scariest and most dangerous. Now itโ€™s time for some honorable mentions!

HM: Cryptids Island

cryptids18

This island, if on the list, would be #6. Itโ€™s definitely got the scary element (Jersey Devil and the Chupacabra), and itโ€™s dangerous, but not the most dangerous. Still a good island, though.

HM: Monster Carnival Island

mcarnival

The lost island! Yep, definitely creepy (especially that labโ€ฆ oh gods), and monster-filled! Though it isnโ€™t particularly dangerous- really only the monsters are dangerous. Oh, and Ringmaster Raven, who tries to hypnotise everyone. But no, itโ€™s not the most dangerous, so I left it out.

HM: Super Villain Island

svi 5

Guess what guys? Zeus is back, and heโ€™s more annoying than ever! This time, heโ€™s kidnapped four super villains, and we have to enter their dangerous dreams! Yay! Then, at the end, we have to fight Zeus again, and the fight is more life-threatening than Mythology Islandโ€™s! Although itโ€™s dangerous, it just isnโ€™t scary enough, so I left it out.

Alrighty, ladies and gents! Thatโ€™s all I have to say for this list, so thank you for reading and Iโ€™ll see you around in the Poptropica community! ๐Ÿ™‚

My Place in Poptropica

My Place in Poptropica: Silver Wolf

I (Silver Wolf)ย have beenย blogging on my ownย site, Poptropica Tips For Poptropicans (PTFP), since 2013, and haveย recently joined the PHB teamย as an author. It seems appropriate that I share my ownย Myย Place in Poptropica post to introduce myself to all of you.ย For details on sending in your own MPIP story, see the bottom of this post!

2008-2009 | Exploring Poptropica

I think 2008ย was the year that I first discovered Poptropica, and for some reason, I remember the exact moment very clearly. It was after school, and my friend wanted to show me a game they had found from FunBrain. Of course, I followed them into their mom’s office and saw on their screen a game called — you guessed it — Poptropica! My friendย had already completed some islands and told me that I should play too. Back then, there were barely any islands – in fact, there wasย only one page on the map!

For awhile, I was pretty invested in Poptropica, but I was also very young. Spy Island was a bit too hard for me in particular, and I had to get help from my brother and dad. I even printed out the official Decoder Kit! I wasn’t familiar enough with the Internet back then, either, so I didn’tย know you could look up how to complete islands. I actually think that’s what my brother did instead of doing themย himself. ๐Ÿ˜› Sadly, I’ve since lost all my old Poptropica accounts. I was never a member back then, andย quickly moved on to other games.

2012-2013ย | Beginning to Blog

I rediscovered Poptropica a few years later, and only a few days after that day, I decided to create a blog:ย Poptropica Tips for Poptropicans (PTFP)!ย I’m not sure what was going through my mind when I did that,ย but I knew that I wanted to start one. The whole process of creating it was ridiculously quick.

I remember the first blog I found, which ultimately inspired me to create my own, was Icy Comet’s Blog. I’m not sure what made me decide to click that one out of the many that popped up on my Google search, but maybe if I had clicked another one, I wouldn’t be here today.

I started the PTFP in late December of 2012, so I don’t think it was until 2013 that I discovered the Poptropica Help Blog. Besides my own, theย PHB has been the blog I’ve been most active with.

At some point in 2013, I joined the Poptropica Help Chat (PHC), which was on Xat back then. I soon became a moderator and was on there almost daily for over two years! Since I was in middle school, I had a lot of free time and posted very, very frequently on my blog and chatted on the PHC almostย constantly. I made a lot of great friends, most of whom I’m still friends with on the PHC now, including Spotted Dragon, Rue, and Obiwan.

2014-2016ย | Getting Busy, But Remaining Thankful

For the next three years, I was busy in many ways. School became harder, I gained more friends online and offline, and when I had free time, I created a lot of new pages and posts on the PTFP. I also posted a lot on another blog with my close friend Spotted Dragon, Adventure Time Pop, which is sadly no longer active. For a while, blogging was going really well, but slowly old authors started leaving and I started to post less. Trust me, I still cared about it a lot, and I still care now, but I did loseย a lot of motivation. Around this time, I also started upย the PTFP’s Twitter and my own DeviantArt.

One of the things I’d like to point out in this section is that I owe a lot of my blogging career to other people. My biggest thank-you is for Spotted Dragon, who has been with me since the very beginning, and we’ve basically done everything together. But there are so many others whoย have gotten me here! Some whom I can think of at the top of my head are: Perfect Dolphin, Samwow5, Starving Cereal (SC, or as I knew him, Sticky Clown), Cool Smarticle, Nameless Undefined, Tough Spider, and Brave Sky. Thanks to all of you, the PTFP’s current authors, and everyone else that has been with me!

2017ย | The Future Awaits

What has happened in 2017? Hmm…let me think… Oh, I’m just kidding, I know the answer: getting invited to the PHB!

I have been content with just my own blog and a couple of others along the way, but still, being invited to the PHB has been one of my biggest dreams since 2013. At oneย point, I even subscribed to get emails for all the comments on the PHB… yeah, that only lasted a couple of months (unsurprisingly, there are a lot!).

It’s taken a lot of work to get here, but it was worth it, and I can’t wait to see what else happens in the future. I’m more motivated than ever, and I’d like to thank Slanted Fishย for letting me join. ๐Ÿ™‚

If you’ve made it this far, thank you for reading!

Islands of the Month, Wimpy Boardwalk Island

Behind-The-Scenes: Wimpy Sketches For Your Favorite Boardwalk!

Howdy, good players of Poptropica!

It’s me, Purple Claw, with some behind the scenes info about – you guessed it – Wimpy Boardwalk! This exciting little Island, along with Wimpy Wonderland are April’s Islands of the Month, which means everyone gets extra credits! Yup, even non-members!

Wimpy Kid gif

As you probably know, if you complete one of these islands for the very first time, you’ll get 500 credits! And if you’re a pro on the Wimpy islands and you’ve already beaten them; no worries, you’ll be getting 300 credits for re-playing them! Enjoy the credits and as well as the sketches you’re about to see below, searched by the lovely Skinny Moon. ๐Ÿ˜›

Skinny Moon was kind enough to show us a couple of early sketches about the beach and the arcade of this boardwalk. Let’s check them out!

The first image might be uncolored, but it looks a LOT like the current beach. The arcade had quite a makeover, since the roof, font, and the inside of the arcade changed. Also, a little shirt stand was added, named ”TeeTime”. First designs aren’t always final designs, and the second and third image (and some other sketches you’re about to see) can confirm that.

Hmm, the images below showcase the early design of each game stand, and how much they changed during the production of this island. I personally prefer the current design, but the early ones aren’t bad at all!

The first image looks more like a carnival, the second one looks medieval time-themed, and the third one seems to be a mix of both. ๐Ÿ˜›

And last but not least, I’d like to show some sketches about the fun (and dangerous) rides of Wimpy Boardwalk:

The early sketch is really stunning in my opinion, by looking how complicated and filled it is. The background is what amuses me the most. Again, the ”Fun House” hasn’t changed a lot, but it’s nice to see all these awesome sketches and see the differences between early and finished designs!

Well, what do you think? Which place changed the most? Share your thoughts in the comments below! I’ll see you soon, and don’t forget to earn these extra credits! Keep poppin’!
