Poptropica Worlds: The “Unreleased” App is Here!

Hey there, Poptropicans!

It’s Happy Lobster, and I’ve got some BIG NEWS for you:

Poptropica Worlds is available to be downloaded as an app on Google Play! It’s currently in open beta for Android, which means it’s not officially released yet, and as a result it may be unstable. But it’s here at last! Download at your own caution!

If you head over to the app’s page on the Google Play Store, you’ll find these new preview images, similar to the shiny ones we saw added for the classic Poptropica app:

So, these images basically convey most the same details as the images on the Poptropica App in Google Play and iTunes. But we can see a few new things in a couple of these pics, such as a few new costumes that aren’t in the original Pop or the Poptropica App images that showed us a glimpse of Worlds, and, much more interestingly, we can see some clear, customizable interiors of our brand-new house in Poptropica Worlds!

Here is the description of the Poptropica Worlds app on Google Play:

Explorers wanted! From the creators of the Poptropica games, now launches Poptropica Worlds. An exciting new game where every player gets to be the hero of their own story!

Venture the twists and turns only your Poptropican can journey.

Poptropica Worlds is a place where imagination and creativity allow you to explore, engage, and interact with a limitless universe of uncharted islands. You will be taken on an adventure through story-based islands that have you battling monsters, solving mysteries, and discovering exclusive locations as your personalized Poptropican avatar. With a world of possibilities, you get to be the writer of your own story.

EXPLORE POPTROPICA WORLDS: Check out different islands, play alongside other Poptropican heroes and villains, and dive into missions only your Poptropican can solve.

TAKE ON DARING QUESTS: Unravel the mysteries that lie in the caves of Crisis Caverns. A deadly supervolcano threatens Poptropica as we know it! To stop it, you must start an adventure taking you deep into the earth and explore areas that have yet to be discovered.

DECORATE YOUR HOUSE FOR YOUR STYLE: Located on your Home Island, this fully customizable House allows for you to create a place you can call your own. Check out the store for the latest additions you can use for a truly personalized look.

PLAY ON-THE-GO WITH YOUR DEVICE: Now you can have a seamless gaming experience between your web and mobile devices! Stay connected via the app to pick up exactly where you left off on your computer.

ENDLESS AVATAR CUSTOMIZATION: With more options than ever, create the avatar you want to best represent you in Poptropica Worlds.

Are you a Poptropican player already? No problem! Import your avatar and account details so you never miss a beat. Get started with this free game and embark on this new journey alongside your fellow Poptropicans!

Now, the only facet of this description that we really didn’t know about already is the part about Crisis Caverns’ plot. A deadly supervolcano threatens Poptropica, and to stop it, we must adventure through undiscovered areas deep below the earth? Interesting…

Anyway, onto the app itself. Again, because it’s technically in open beta, you can probably expect a few bugs here and there if you download it. Also note that this is only available on Android at the moment, so you will not find this on the iTunes App Store or for other devices just yet.

When you go onto the app, you’ll be prompted to either create a new player or log in (with your Poptropica Classic or Poptropica Worlds account). On Worlds, you can pick a player age up to 99, keep refreshing either part of the name options (as opposed to the whole name changing at once), and find yourself born on a cloud, not a box!

(For the following images, we’d like to thank BlazingAngel123! You can click to enlarge them.)

Once you’re ready to go, you’ll be faced with the map, which offers you three options: Home Island, Crisis Caverns, and Play the Original Poptropica! (The latter should bring you to the original, not-Worlds Poptropica game.) You can access the map again through the menu or your blimp on either island.

Let’s check out Home Island first – here you’ll find your home (of course), which is a nice wooden abode with fairy lights and nested among a big tree. Cliff Housebuff can introduce you to the process of decorating the interior. Your credits are going to come in handy!

Over on the other side of the beach island, you’ll find the daily spin wheel manned by one Captain Scuttlebutt. He may seem like a weirdo, but you’re going to want those credits!

Taking Amelia Earhart’s place in the middle is a new character called Paula Pureheart, who basically offers the same kind of information about exploring Poptropica. Now, back to the blimp!

And yes, it’s true: we get to play Crisis Caverns! In order not to spoil too much right now, and to keep this post at a reasonable length, we’ll review the island more in-depth in a later post. In the meantime, here are a few pictures:

You can see from these pictures that the interfaces and menu is rather button-based, similar to what the current Poptropica looks like as of recently but with some differences. The inventory now pops up at the bottom, with items not having their own card, but showing up in the middle of the screen when clicked on.

A more noteworthy feature is the new Quest Log, which gives you a bar for island progress and lists tasks you have left to do. It can be a bit spoiler-y if you haven’t gotten quite that far to know about certain events, though. Still, it’s a handy feature and a nice answer to our request for a hint system in last year’s Open Letter from the PHB!

worldsapp9

If you click on the menu in the top corner, you’ll see options for: Save, Shop (brings you to the Store for clothing), Closet, Inbox (not currently available, but presumably we’ll receive messages this way), Travel (brings you to the map), and Settings.

Your credit count is displayed in the top-left corner, along with a membership icon prompting you to buy membership if you haven’t already. Not to worry, though: you can net a decent sum of credits by spinning the daily wheel, and completion of Crisis Caverns (and presumably other islands) will grant you 500 credits, a boost from the usual 150. You can also earn (less) credits by re-playing islands.

You may notice if you browse through the Shop (for either clothing or furniture) that some items are for members only, but free players still have plenty to choose from. A new thing that’s pretty neat is that you can purchase clothing items individually, instead of getting the whole costume at once, so you can just get the parts you like and it’s more affordable, too!

Anyway, there’s quite a bit to explore, so if you have an Android device and can’t wait much longer, feel free to check out the app now (but don’t expect it to run perfectly)! As for when it should release for real, and on other devices as well, we can’t be too sure – but Poptropica did hint over on Twitter that it could be VERY SOON

This tweet suggests that it could come out by the end of this month, and there’s only a week and a half left until the end of May, which is coming up fast! With the Android app already on version 1.0, it can’t be much longer now.

Pretty exciting stuff, right?? What are your thoughts so far? Have you played the beta yet? Got any favorite items and features? Tell the world in the comments below! 😀

The Final Poptropica Worlds Mystery Item Leak!

Hello, everyone!

Lucky Joker here sharing the final Poptropica Worlds prerelease mystery item leak. I say prerelease because it’s fair to assume that there’ll be more item leaks like this in the future (postrelease). Anyway, Skinny Moon posted this image today of another item we’ll be seeing in Poptropica Worlds:

Poptropica Worlds leaked item 3

This looks like it could be a number of things! As far as furniture items go, this looks like some kind of armoire we could store our belongings in, or even an arcade cabinet where we could play a few mini games (wouldn’t that be cool?).

However, if we’re talking Crisis Caverns, this looks like it could either be a pedestal for an offering or some sort of throne (theory on this below) – both of which would most likely be made of stone if you notice the blocky shape.

If you recall from a few years ago, you’ll remember the Mole King, who was thought to be a character for an underground-themed island.

The Mole King

Sadly he was scrapped, but if it is, in fact, a throne, could we be seeing the Mole King in Crisis Caverns Island? Although his (possible) throne doesn’t look the same as before, the Mole King having involvement with Crisis Caverns doesn’t sound too far-fetched, am I right? What do you guys think?

With this third sneak peek given, it seems that Poptropica Worlds is just around the corner at this point and I’m super excited about it. What do you think the mystery item is? Sound off your ideas in the comments section.

That’s all for now, thanks for reading!

A Smashing Poptropica Worlds Mystery Item Leak!

Hello, everyone!

Lucky Joker here sharing another Poptropica Worlds mystery item leak. Skinny Moon posted this image today of an item we’ll be seeing in Poptropica Worlds:

Poptropica Worlds leaked item 2

Again, it’s just a silhouette, but it’s clearly a lot rounder than the first item leak we saw last week.

To me, it looks like some sort of boulder or some type of egg. Perhaps it’s a furniture item? Or maybe it’s an island item we’ll be seeing down in the rocky mines of Crisis Caverns Island, which we caught a glimpse of from the biggest sneak peek of Poptropica Worlds that the Creators had given us earlier.

Also, Skinny Moon has confirmed via this tweet below that, while the Creators will continue to blog for Worlds, they’ll be moving from away Blogger (the blog-publishing service they’ve been using all these years) to another service that’ll give more options for the blog’s design:

It isn’t the biggest news, but it’s definitely something else to look forward to!

Anyway, what do you think the mystery object is? Let us know down in the comments section!

New Pop Drop: Cavern Chases, Pretty Places, and Many a House Prop

Hey Poptropicans! Slanted Fish here with some CAVERNOUS news.

Prepare to be amazed… we’ve got a LOT of Poptropica Worlds sneak peeks today, featuring the rumored (now confirmed) Crisis Caverns Island, the new animated running style, and some furniture/decor for the upcoming player houses!

Before we begin, I’d like to acknowledge that the pictures below come straight from the official Creators, who recently contacted many bloggers in the Poptropica community with a Pre-Beta Worlds Kit and invited them to share its contents with everyone. While we can’t give away the kit itself, we can show you the amazing artistry within it, which you’ll find below. Click the images to view them in full size.

Among the sneak peeks is this look at a chase scene in Crisis Caverns, with elements like a relentless boulder and worm pits – the monster worm from an earlier sneak peek!

TheChase

At some point in the caves, you’ll encounter a pit of magma – and more of those spaghetti worm creatures! (Also, what is that nose-shaped light spot on the character’s face? The new avatar doesn’t show any noses, but did he get his ripped off or is he just weirdly sunburnt? 😛 In any case, I’m digging the new running animation.)

TheChase2

But Crisis Caverns isn’t all danger and running-for-your-life madness. Check out this gorgeous, serene palace area – possibly the lair of the Mole King from a much earlier sneak peek, though it was mentioned that that character idea was scrapped. (This island has been in development for years!)

ThePalace

Looking on the brighter side, we also see this exterior of Crisis Caverns, possibly the Main Street area (first scene). Signposts label this as Caldera State Park, possibly named after the Valles Caldera National Preserve in New Mexico, or simply after a caldera, which is a large volcanic crater usually formed by a major eruption.

In this picture, we see some bison, a cabin, the entrance to an underground mine, the visitor’s center with some park flags, wax pots (whatever that is), and a signpost to a geyser named Old Reliable (most likely named after Old Faithful in Yellowstone).

CrisisCaverns

Last of the sneak peek pictures, and unrelated to the rest, we have a look at some decorative items for player houses. From a Booga shark statue to at least twelve different styles of chairs (not all pictured), and even wallpaper designs, there’s a ton to select from. Which ones will you put in your home?

HouseStoreItems

The Poptropica Creator Captain Crawfish also included a letter to recipients of the Pre-Beta Kit, which talks about what we can look forward to in Poptropica Worlds:

Poptropica Worlds is an all-new game, built from the ground up to give you the Poptropica you’ve dreamed of. That means a seamless gameplay experience between your web and mobile devices, with a single account. A re-imagined interface that ensures the smoothest controls possible no matter where you’re playing. Even richer customization options for your Poptropican. All this and still the same humor, adventure, and fun that you expect from Poptropica.

Want examples? How about…

  • Your very own house! Decorate your space to be as unique and creative as you are.
  • Deeper options to customize your Poptropican’s look, and new choices arriving all the time.
  • Crisis Caverns: our grandest island adventure yet, with astonishing underground mysteries and creatures you have to see to believe.
  • Enjoy new gameplay mechanics, and feast your eyes on jaw-dropping art and animation.
  • Keep your account! Your classic Poptropica login will automatically work on Poptropica Worlds.

All in all, I think this #NewPopDrop is looking and sounding spectacular, and I’m excited to get to play Poptropica Worlds this spring! Are you??

A Whole New World: A Whole New Avatar

Hey everyone, Spotted Dragon here with overused puns as usual! Believe me, I know that Aladdin has been referenced way too much when we talk about Poptropica Worlds around here, but the title was just waiting to be used.

Anyway, the PHB isn’t the only thing around here with a new look! 😀

changing avatar

The Creators provided us with a new post earlier today explaining how our Poptropicans’ looks will be changing when Poptropica Worlds rolls around. While we already saw the avatar’s new look in the trailer, this post does explain it a bit more clearly.

new avatar look

See what I mean? We already knew that our characters would be earning themselves some hands and shoes, but it looks like their whole looks will be more defined.

Some key changes:

  • Growth spurts (taller avatars – the legs are more proportional)
  • Joints (including more realistic movement, presumably)
  • Feet (with shoes)
  • Hands (of course! and Oliver is wearing a wristwatch – suggesting more customization options in that area)

Since Unity and Spine will be used when making Poptropica Worlds, our Poptropicans will supposedly be much more customizable.

As seen in the image above, the 4-fingered hands will have 4 different positions, of which will change depending on the movement of your character. This will hopefully lead to nicer looking animation, like the running that’s shown.

Though there are some conflicting opinions on all this change, there is no denying that the announcement of hands has left everyone on YouTube excited in one way or another.

Poptropica Worlds has been controversial lately, but I have to say I am trying to stay optimistic. I like that the art style is still clearly “Poptropica” even though more detail has been added. I’m hoping this improvement in art reflects the other “improvements” and changes being made.

While this is it for now, the Creators have promised more sneak peeks into Poptropica Worlds in the next few weeks! Let’s hope the update comes out as scheduled this time, right? 😉
