Hey fellow Poptropicans! In response to the slow fade of Poptropica, I’m super excited to announce the next step in Poptropica’s history: Poptropica Legacy, a fan-made desktop version of our favorite game.

⚠️ Note: Poptropica Legacy is in active beta development, and there are still many bugs. If you find any, you can report them in-game via the menu. 🪲 Not all islands are finishable yet, with progress noted on the website.

Like the Flashpoint curation of Poptropica, Legacy is a download where you can enjoy the old islands of the game, including both AS2 (earlier) and AS3 (later) islands, plus the sandbox game Realms — but with some major changes and improvements. This includes:

🎵 Sound & music for AS2 — The earliest Poptropica islands (AS2, pre-2013) were not made with sound, but Legacy has retroactively implemented sound (including some previously unused music from Poptropica’s files) for an enhanced experience. Have a listen:

Yes, that’s Amelia in Early Poptropica! Just an example of a unique twist found in Legacy.

🖼️ Visual improvements — AS2 originally had a smaller screen size (viewport) and was built for 31 FPS (frames per second), but Legacy has expanded the viewport for a cinematic experience that allows you to see much more in a frame at a time, and has bumped it up to 60 FPS to match the AS3 version. Plus, the resolution from the original game has been upscaled to full HD (high definition) for crisp visuals that match modern gaming standards.
➡️ Account import — You can login to (import) your original Poptropica account directly into Legacy using your original username and password! Your island progress, inventory, and costume are preserved. Flashpoint curation save files are also compatible.

🌀 Ad Preservation — Thanks to Pop veteran Evtema3 (aka 64mcy, the original creator of the Poptropica Ad Transporter), Legacy houses over 140 ad campaigns from Poptropica’s almost two decades of history. Sadly, many are incomplete, but you can still play through many of them, and get the original rewards.
🛍️ Original Store — Access all the original costumes and item cards from the OG Poptropica Store for free, without membership limits.

…and there are plenty of exciting extras, including a fully preserved Creators’ Blog archive, functioning Avatar Studio, Daily Pop (with games, comics, sneak peeks, and celebrity clips), an interactive explorer of Dr. Hare’s Travels, and a costumizable Look Book. ✨

More extra content is planned for the future, including archives of the Island Tours, Mews Foundation website, and Funbrain (Mom & Kids Playground & the Funbrain Arcade). Staying tuned is easy — Legacy will auto-update to the latest version on startup (you can opt out in settings, but it means missing future updates!).

Pop Protip: Play the old islands with Flashpoint 🏝🔦 (Windows and Mac)

Dec 2025 update: Try Poptropica Legacy, a new alternative way to experience Poptropica. Or read on to learn about Flashpoint, which more closely matches the original game.

Are you wondering why the Poptropica map doesn’t have more islands than it does? If you’re an older player, you may recall a time when Poptropica had wayyy more islands on the map—more than 40, even! Where did they all go, and how can you play them again?

Quick background: Poptropica used to run on Flash, an old technology that was finally laid to rest in 2020. To keep Poptropica alive, the game moved a new platform called Haxe, which is how Poptropica currently exists today. However, in this Flash-to-Haxe transition, Poptropica has had to re-code what they had for a post-Flash era.

With the official game’s migration to Coolmath Games in early 2024, it’s been made clear that there is no official plan to restore the old islands, reneging on Poptropica’s previous expressions of interest to do so. But there are other ways to play!

How to play the old Poptropica islands with Flashpoint

The hottest solution for accessing the classic islands is with Flashpoint, the Flash game preservation project. You can find instructions for Windows computers 🪟 in this guide by Light and Prof Robin.

For Mac 🍎 users, follow this guide to download Flashpoint, then this guide to download the files for old Poptropica. Keep in mind that Flashpoint for Mac may take a while to download and require more troubleshooting, particularly if running on a newer MacOS or device.

The Flashpoint curation of Poptropica includes a couple of downloads and clicking around a bit to set things up. Once you have it ready, you can play through all the classic islands, and even some mini-quests! It’s safe and free, so you can use it without worry.

You may encounter the following terms that refer to different island eras by the name of the Flash-based programming language they were built with: AS2 refers to islands from 2007–2013, from Early Poptropica to Back Lot Island, while AS3 islands were released in 2013–2019, from Virus Hunter to Reality TV: Wild Safari.

AS3 islands are also those found in Poptropica’s paid, Windows and Mac-supported Steam bundle, which also includes the sandbox game Realms.

For the AS2 curation only, the Save Data Converter lets you import your Pop account’s data (such as island progress) as a file into Flashpoint. However, there is a risk of corrupted data, particularly if going between AS2 and AS3. Importing save data is not supported for AS3.

The PHB’s capacity to offer tech support is limited, so if you’re having trouble, try watching the video above for a clear visual of what to do. Be sure to download Flashpoint Infinity rather than Ultimate.

Pop Protip: Hang out with Poptropicans on the PHC, our Discord server 📱

Howdy Poptropicans, welcome to Pop Protips — your guide to the PHB and the many awesome resources available to the Poptropica community. We’re kicking off this series especially with newer Poptropicans in mind, to share fun stuff you may not be familiar with.

For our first Pop Protip, we’ll be covering our Discord server, the Poptropica Help Chat! The PHC is a fun and safe environment to chat about all things Poptropica (and more) and is moderated at all times.

To keep the good vibes going, the PHC has a few rules, which include keeping things kid-friendly, being kind, and no spamming (other than in our spam channel). You must also be at least 13 years old to join, per Discord’s terms. Breaking these expectations may result in a ban.

Channels host different discussions so that they don’t get in the way of each other. You can find the list of channels to your left. The PHC includes lots of fun channels, including #🏡home-island for Poptropica and off-topica discourse, #🎨pop-art where fandom art is shared and admired, and more! More details are on #👀survival-island.

A couple more highlights: the PHC includes tons of custom Poptropica emojis, from facial expressions to PHB staff to Ringmaster Raven as a cute birb! 🐦 You can also give yourself roles to display your Poptropica tribe and personalities based on iconic Pop characters.

Every once in a while, you might already know that the PHB is likely to throw a party — and that the PHC is a big part of the event, where we come together. (We might even have one coming soon. 😉)
