2015 Rewind: Islands, Events, and More!

poptropica2015

Hey guys, Slip here.

Wow, another year has already passed. 2015 is coming to an end, and what better way to bring it to a close than to reflect and look back to all that’s happened this year?

happynewyear

2015, for Poptropica, is one of its awesome years. They reached a lot of milestones and new developments that made our game experience better than ever. This post is divided into three parts: the islands, the Poptropica milestones, and the PHB events.

Islands & Episodes

In 2015, we had a total of 4 new islands and 2 new episodes! From the forty thieves to space pirates to robot rulers, there was a lot for Poptropica adventurers to experience this year. Let’s take a look!

Arabian Nights Episode 2: Lair of Thieves

Poptropica started the year with releasing the second episode of Arabian Nightsone of the best episodic adventures we’ve had. It was definitely challenging, heart-stopping, and mysterious all at the same time. In this episode, everything was well done, making for an enjoyable experience. (You can check out our review here!)

Galactic Hot Dogs Island

Poptropica also launched a brand new sponsored island early on in the year: Galactic Hot Dogs. To be honest, Galactic Hot Dogs Island is one of Poptropica’s easiest islands, and its lack of challenge plus its being a sponsored island with a very contrasting art style made it rather unlikeable for many Poptropicans (in fact, it was voted Worst Poptropica Island in the PHB’s Poppies event!). Still, Poptropica brought a new island with a distinct story and a light challenge to all.

PoptropiCon Episode 3: Reign of Omegon

After releasing Galactic Hot Dogs to everyone, PoptropiCon’s concluding episode followed next. Now this was one amazing episode. Everything worked out well and Omegon played effectively as the story’s antagonist. I believe Poptropica made sure that this island would be remarkable; it definitely was one of the better ones and even inspired our April Fool’s prank this year!

Mystery of the Map Island

In May, a new island dawned on Poptropica. Based on the Poptropica graphic novel, you could say this island is a hybrid of both original and sponsored island. I enjoyed how our player is added to the plot. The downside was that the graphic novel had already been released, which meant everyone was already aware of what was going to happen. Still, the island was cool to play, and the design was well made. (Read our review of this island here!)

Arabian Nights Episode 3: Careful What You Wish For

Wishes do come true, as the ending of Arabian Nights showed us. I would consider this episode one of Poptropica’s finest works. Poptropica made everything top-notch in this episode — the story, the characters, the gameplay and even the design were all so amazing! Plus, Samhal the comedic genie gave us a lot of laughs along the way! (Read the PHB’s review here!)

Timmy Failure Island

This island isn’t a complete failure; it’s actually greater than expected! Sponsored islands have a down-factor since they aren’t an original Poptropica story, but this island defied the paradigms of the sponsored islands! From its wacky characters to its hilarious whodunit storyline, this island didn’t fail to meet our expectations. As far as sponsored islands go, this is one of the best. As a plus, it even came with a weekly giveaway(Check out our review here!)

Escape From Pelican Rock Island

We’ve been through a lot of prisons in Poptropica. Most of the time, prison security was a joke. Not so with Pelican Rock Prison! The year ended wonderfully with this island, which brought on a unique storyline with fantastic designs, particularly of the individual characters. Poptropica clearly worked hard on this island, and I believe this is the best island of 2015. 😛 (Catch the PHB’s review over here!)

That brings us to the next part: Poptropica’s milestones of 2015!

PHB Events

Look back through the parties, events, milestones, and even fan art contests! Here’s a slideshow of various PHB events we’ve had through the year:

This year was a big year for other reasons – namely a stronger reunion of the PHN.

UiPE bringing back a weekly series really helped out with inspiring the community again like Poptropican Portraits did once. Last year, HP reflected that he wanted the community to be more community centered, and in the past year we have gotten a lot of awesome community help. Trusty Biker helped out with the PHN website, Ylimegirl did a load of work on the Poptropica Wiki, and remember the fan art contests UiPE and HPuterpop held?

The Poppies was an awesome awards show – we really enjoyed seeing what you guys, the community, collectively preferred. We’re excited for next year!

We also joined forces with We-Love-Poptropica on deviantArt, the biggest Poptropica fan art community, fulfilling our goal to focus on the arts. Plus, starting in July, we picked up our Magazine series again, this time publishing The POPCORN in PDFs.

Here’s a timeline of some of our major events, too!

phb2015

Wow, a lot of things have come down in one year and things have gone so fast. Time really flies when you’re having fun, eh? It’s really a great time to reflect and ponder all of the things we’ve done this year.

Looking forward to the new year, here are a couple of our next aspirations:

  • A better glitch community. Free for all! (And more on the way!)
  • More active viewers – PHB lurkers, start commenting more on our posts! That’s the only way we can improve. 😀

Here at the PHB, it’s our privilege to bring you the best Poptropica news as we can. Hope y’all enjoyed this year-end recap! 2016 is going to be an awesome year!

🎇 Happy New Year, Poptropicans! 🎇

Glitches, PHB Specials

A merry Avatar Studio Gift to you!

Merry Christmas, Poptropicans! This year, the Poptropica Help Blog has been working on a very special gift to present to the Poptropica community… an Avatar Studio Gift!

ASG gift

If you’re at all familiar with ASGs, you’re in for a treat! To catch everyone up, that’s the Avatar Studio Glitch, the main method Poptropica “glitchers” use to obtain otherwise uncustomizable costume parts. It’s been around for years, with lots of trading going on at the PHC, various YouTube videos showing how to get various costume pieces, and a number of ASGs listed on our Cheats page. But with our merry little Avatar Studio Gift, we’re about to bring you even MORE!

You can find them all on our new page, Avatar Studio Gift, which lists 100+ costumes that you can perform the infamous Avatar Studio Glitch on in order to obtain said costumes (for those not acquainted, instructions for the glitch can be found on the page as well). Check it out:

ASG banner

Here’s just a small sample of some of the ASGs you’ll find in our big bundle. Whether it’s a character with a beautiful beard, a non-human, or something from a long-gone ad, we hope you’ll find something you like. Depending on demand and resources, we hope to add even more in the future!

Some key players who I’d like to thank are Dr. Snowball, a retired Poptropican who sent us a clever (though clandestine) method that allowed the production of such accounts to occur significantly easier than before; Red Lizard, Zerror, and Grumpy Wolf, for contributing a large part to this gift; as well as a few others who are also credited on the page. We hope you enjoy these ASGs.

Just don’t put together something atrocious with your newfound rare costume parts. Make a snazzy outfit, and have fun with these no-longer-uncustomizables. Deck the halls!

🎄 Merry Christmas, Poptropicans! 🎄

PHB Specials

PHB Christmas Special, Part 4: Sleigh Ride

phb2015 christmas

Continued from Part 3: Tut Tut, Looks Like Train

INT. TRAIN BOILER ROOM- NIGHT

(THE AUTHORS, sans Giant Hawk and Spotted Dragon, barge into the boiler room, as BLAKE and HP tackle the CONDUCTOR.)

Blake: The jig is up, conductor! Where are you taking these kids?
Conductor: To the North Pole, of course!
Blake: A likely story. Get him, guys!

(The remaining AUTHORS tackle the conductor, tying him to the boiler. BLAKE steps up to the controls.)

Blake: Okay, one SLIGHT problem. Do any of you know how to DRIVE a train?

HP: Nope.

Paul: I think Giant Hawk does.

Blake: Great! Giant Hawk, quickly, do something!

(There is silence, as the remaining AUTHORS look around for Giant Hawk)

Blake: Wait – where IS he?

Slip: And where’s Spotted Dragon?

Sam: I’ve got no clue, dawgs.

Blake: Alright, then. Brace for impact, I guess.

(The remaining AUTHORS grab onto the train’s handrails as the train derails. After the train lands, the wounded remaining AUTHORS climb out of the wreckage. SD and GH suddenly appear, outside of the wreckage and completely unharmed)

HP: Wait? How did you guys get here? Where were you?

SD: Oh, we didn’t leave the train car when you guys did.

GH: Yeah. But when we realized what you guys were doing, we found the emergency exit and escaped.

Sam: Sounds tubular!

Blake: Oh, quiet Sammy Fresh.

(SAMMY FRESH’s usual radical smile turns into a bogus frown)

Blake: Hey guys, look! The aurora borealis! Hmm, he was telling the truth after all.

Slip: Alright, we get it. Now, are we gonna take the sleigh NOW or what?
Blake: Sure, do it your way. Clearly, my idea didn’t work.

SLEIGH- NIGHT

(THE AUTHORS are sitting in Santa’s sleigh, delivering presents to children. BLAKE hops into the sleigh, after going down his 39th consecutive chimney.)

Blake: Guys, can someone ELSE be Santa now? I think I may have gotten lung cancer.

HP: Well, we do have this guy.

(HP gestures to SANS, sitting in the back of the sleigh playing a trombone. BLAKE frowns.)

Sans: Well, that’s the expression of someone who just got DUNKED ON.

Blake: Oh, shut up. You’re just a throwaway gag.

Sans: Or am I?

Blake: Yes you are. Now, back into the Throwaway Gag Closet with you.

(BLAKE ushers SANS out of the scene. From offscreen, PAPYRUS’ voice can be heard)

Papyrus: Aw, they kicked you out too?

Blake: So then, next house?

SD: Sure, go ahead!

HOUSE ROOF- NIGHT

(BLAKE and HP sneak out of the sleigh and drop the gifts down the chimney.)

Blake: Wow, this new “speed delivery” thing is working wonders!

HP: Yes, yes it is. Well, only one last house to go, team!

Blake: Oh, it’s Fishy’s house! Welp, we have what we need! Let’s go!

(BLAKE goes down the chimney.)

INT. FISHY’S HOUSE- NIGHT

(BLAKE plops down into the fireplace.)

Blake: Alright, now just find where she keeps the presents and this whole night will be over.

(SUDDENLY, A LIGHT flickers on in Fishy’s kitchen. FISHY walks out, sleepily.)

Fishy: Blake? What are you doing here?

Blake: Okay, panic. Is this gonna be like a Grinch moment or-?

Fishy: Oh, hey? Is that the trout you guys got me for Christmas?
Blake: Yeah, it i- Wait. You KNEW?!

Fishy: Of course, Blake! I own the blog. You can’t get much by me.

Blake: I see. Look, just take the present and know we went through a lot of trouble to get it, okay? I’m not one for these gushy moments..

Fishy: Alright. Merry Christmas, Blake.

(BLAKE turns to FISHY as he goes up the chimney.)

Blake: Merry Christmas, Fishy.

INT. BLAKE’S HOUSE- MORNING

(BLAKE walks out in his robe, and turns on his light. Sitting next to his puny excuse for a Christmas tree is a small present. On it is written, TO BLAKE, FROM FISHY.)

Blake: No way. I could have sworn I changed the locks after last Christmas..

(BLAKE crouches down and opens the present. Inside are letters from the PHB community, thanking him for all he’s done. BLAKE sniffles with happiness. At the bottom, there is a note from someone not quite in the PHB community. BLAKE reads it aloud.)

Blake: Dear Blake, thank you for all your help. You’ve been a really good boy somewhat good this year. Sincerely yours, Santa Claus.

(SANTA’s laugh is heard as the letter disappears in BLAKE’S HANDS. He looks outside to see SANTA flying off on his sleigh. BLAKE turns to the camera.)

Blake: Keeping with the theme of traditional holiday specials, I guess you’re expecting me to learn some sort of lesson from this. Well, truth is, I didn’t learn anything at all. All I learned is that going down chimneys is extremely difficult work.
