LEGO Poptropica, Survival Island

Van Buren inspiration, more fan LEGO, and the PPN story!

Hi Gs,

Whatย isnโ€™tย happening in the world of Poptropica? Prepare to have your mind blown with all the new things happening in the Poptropica universe!ย ๐Ÿ˜€

Van Buren inspiration

PHB readerย JLBblue2003ย recently discovered something about the antagonist of Survival Island — he’s based on yet another character from the classic Robin Williams movie,ย Jumanji. If you’ve ever seen the film, you may remember an angry hunter that chases the movie’s main characters around with a barrel shot gun and a wicked ‘stache. He bears an uncanny resemblance to Van Buren.

If that wasn’t enough, the hunter from the movie is named Van Pelt! Such resemblance. ๐Ÿ˜›

More Fan LEGO creations

Blake recently posted about a new LEGO creation made by a fan called TheFastComet, but if you check out the page of the project you’ll find even more from the set. The small rock acts a containment unit for swords! Also, check out that flag. ๐Ÿ˜›

legoEvile

That’s pretty neat, but if you check out Fast Comet’s other creation, Binary Bard’s Citadel, you can see how awesome LEGO Poptropica could be.

legoPoptropicaBinary

He plans to do more, so keep up to date on his E. Vile creation update page. The next project of his is the red rocket from Legendary Swords. Go support him for more awesome Poptropica creations! Andย while you’re at it, check out Dr. Hareย (not the official one) on LEGO Cuusoo for more awesome ideas. ๐Ÿ™‚

And it turns out that the original LEGO Cuusoo project from Poptropica was rejected because another project was chosen instead — a Ghostbusters project. Bah. ๐Ÿ˜›

The Story of the PPN

Remember the Poptropica Police Network that I posted about a while back? Turns out some evil things have happened to it, and I’ve told the story of how these things happened here. I’d love if you could take the time to read the story, it’s fully illustrated and explains everything. ๐Ÿ˜€

Sorry about the Poptropicast, guys. I was delayed — but I will get it done sometime this month. ๐Ÿ˜›

LEGO Poptropica

Passing the legendary brick-built torch

What’s popping, Poptropicans? Blake here, with a little tidbit of news from the Creators’ Blog. The Creators have officially announced that the Poptropica LEGO set has been…

TURNED DOWN FOR WHAT *cue bass drop and people smashing flower pots*

But all jokes aside, the Creators have passed the brick-built torch onto none other than TheFastComet’s Legendary Swords LEGO CUUSOO project, which can be seen below. You can also see more details and descriptions on his official LEGO ideas page.

This set is amazing in my opinion, and at least now we have confirmation that the Creators’ own Dr. Hare LEGO set has been canned, although the PHB did report this finding at least four months ago. Now we have this one to root for! Stay popping, Poptropicans.

1000+ Poptropica stickers in a book: coming soon!

Hey Poptropicans! The Pop Creators have just announced that a new book, the Poptropica Ultimate Sticker Collection, will be coming soon – releasing in the US starting July 21 and currentlyย available for pre-order on Amazonย for US$11.69. Here’s a preview of the cover and an inside page:

Thoughย if you’ve been following the PHB, you may remember that HPuterpop discovered the sticker book’s cover back in April – and not only that, he discovered that the graphic was already used somewhere before. (You can read more about it in his post.) Whether it was for the sticker book or not, we don’t know, but half of what’s now the book cover design has been around for quite some time! ๐Ÿ˜›

TimeTravelStickerBook

Anyway, this ultimate sticker book boasts an impressive offer of over 1,000 re-usable full-color stickers, and as we can see from the preview “24 Carrot” page, some info about each sticker graphic as well. There’s even some new information that doesn’t appear in-game: the mayor’s name is McTeague and the waitress is called Flo. I wonder what else will be new in this book?

Also, check out the latest tweet on Poptropica’s official Twitter: it’s an image from this very site, the Poptropica Help Blog, which means they’ve been visitingย us! ๐Ÿ˜€ And there’s my Poptropican! ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s from about five months ago, taken from Blake’s post back in January about Cosmoe from the Funbrain graphic novelย Galactic Hot Dogs appearing in a common room.

Cool, eh? Stay popping, Poptropicans. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Forgotten toys, the evolution of Poptropica, and hidden findings!

Hi Gs,

I’ve been inactive for a while, but that’s about to change — I’m now on summer break! Prepare for more HP than you ever asked for… ๐Ÿ˜›

Forgotten Toys

Am I just really uninformed? I was searching through Poptropica photos on Google finding fan art for the Popcorn, when I came across this image:

forgottenToys

From a first glance, this seems normal — it’s just a picture of some of the Poptropica toys in a store… But before you write a nasty comment talking about how we wasted your time, take a second look:

forgottenToy

Wait, there’s a Rock Star toy?! Also, the green coins that have redemption codes on the back are apparently gold in this picture!

You may recall that the Rock Star outfit was removed from the store mysteriously, and is now considered a rare item — but now it makes sense! Because they were going to release a Rock Star toy, they deleted it from the store and probably were going to make it the redeemable card for the toy. But why wasn’t it released? Tell me your thoughts in the comments. ๐Ÿ™‚

The Evolution of Poptropica

No, this isn’t another “A Pop Down Memory Lane”. Instead, I want to talk about the logo, the motto, and the terminology of Poptropica. First, the logo. When Poptropica started back in 2007, it had the same logo on the homepage that it has always had — but another logo with similar features has risen and is used outside of the game, in logos and more.

First, my thoughts: personally, I like the new logo better. It seems more “poppy” so to speak. As for who designed it, I presume it was designed by the trailer maker for Poptropica, Tyson Burnham, as he was the first to use this logo in his videos.

Secondly, the motto of Poptropica seems to have changed outside of the game — on the homepage, the motto is “Exploreย โ€ข Collectย โ€ข Compete”. However, seen on a banner on the Island Creator Kit book page, the motto is “I am what I play.” To be honest, the latter one sounds pretty awesome (and accurate). ๐Ÿ˜›

Thirdly, the phrase “island”. First noted by Poptropica Secrets, the term “island” after the island name is seemingly becoming extinct. She muses that the first island ever, Early Poptropica, also didn’t hold the island title, but that was probably because they hadn’t decided about island titles yet.

Lately, Islands have been losing the island title, and episodic adventures aren’t going to have the island title either. The last “island” was Virus Hunter Island — even MCI is officially MC! I can see where some islands don’t sound right with the island title (e.g. Mission Atlantis Island), but to do away with the (iconic) phrase completely isn’t a good idea. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Is Poptropica Phasing Out the โ€œIslandโ€?

Old, Hidden, and Strange

I recently posted about a “Monster Adventure” logo that was found while searching through the files of Poptropica via the “JPEXS Flash Decompiler”, but I found more than just that. First, I found a picture possiblyย relating to Monster Carnival — along with classic Poptropica “pow”s and “sting”s was “Raarrr!”. This has never been used in an island, so what is it doing there?

roar.

The tiny picture below is of two Poptropicans running — and it’s also filed next to the Sky Dive game picture. Obviously there was supposed to be a race minigame, and I would rather enjoy the feature. Also, this very same type of mini-game was done in Poptropica Adventures for the DS.

lostGame

Including Monster Adventure, there’s many strange things in this file —ย tell me what you think of these in the comments. ๐Ÿ™‚

Upcoming Survival Costume

An upcoming item will be released to the store soon — a fishing suit. Yes, it was obtainable in Survival: Episode 2, but it looks like it’s going to be an actual item in the Store. Plus, it’s free! (just like in the episode… ๐Ÿ˜› )

Hey Poptropicans!ย The Poptropica Shop is having a spring sale this weekend, and you can get 30% off any purchase of custom Poptropica t-shirts/sweatshirts by entering the code SPRING30 at checkout! (Note: these shirts currently only ship if you’re within the U.S.!)

And OMZ (whichย I imagine can only meanย oh my Zeus), did you hear? Mythology Island has been added to the Poptropica mobile app, which is available on all iOS devices! It’s the same as the online version, so if you need a walkthrough, check out the PHB’s Mythology Island Guide!

Android users, there’s some good news – according to the official Poptropica Twitter, the Poptropica mobile app will be available on Google Play around July, which is only a couple months away!

Also, there’s been a strange glitch with the inventory (thanks to KeithSammut for pointing this out!) – the “Vent Blueprint”, which belongs in the 24 Carrot items, can be found among your Shark Tooth items! What’s up with that? ๐Ÿ˜›

Anyway, don’t forget that the PHB magazine (now known as POPCORN) is looking for creative Poptropica fan stories, artwork, fashion, island ideas, and more for its next issue, which is coming June 1st! Check out the Magazines page for more details, and remember to email all entries to phbpopcorn(at)gmail.com! ๐Ÿ™‚
