Poptropica Book 3: The Secret Society is Unveiled!

Hey Poptropicans! Slanted Fish here, and the time has come for The Secret Society of Poptropica to be unveiled! Just what are they up to with their complex compass tattoos and their capturing of Jorge, Mya, and Oliver?

Find out in Poptropica: The Secret Society, the third book in the graphic novel series, which has just dropped! You can now get it in stores, on a mobile device, or, if you’ve pre-ordered it, it should soon be sent to your address. Look out for the bright green!

(picture credit: Daniel Lazar, @DanLazarAgent on Twitter)

If you’re buying it on Amazon (which ships worldwide), the current price for the book is US$7.51, not including shipping, and pricing in digital formats may vary.

Anyway, it’s super exciting to see the book finally released, as I’m sure a lot of hard work went into planning, creating, and publicizing such a big project! I, along with others on the PHB team, hope to have the chance to read it soon, and we’ll let you guys know what we think right here on the blog. (Yes, it’s a middle-grade book, but Poptropica fans of all ages should be excited!)

Over on the Creators’ Blog, Captain Crawfish went ahead and “interviewed” the book’s author, Mitch Krpata, “by phone.” Or is he interviewing himself… since Mitch is probably Captain Crawfish?? Hmmm. In case you missed it, Mitch also did an interview with the PHB earlier, which you can read over here! (#ShamelessPlug)

Anyway, you can read the full CC vs. MK interview on the Creators’ Blog, but I’ll include some of the more interesting parts below.

About The Secret Society

CC: Obviously we don’t want to spoil the story for readers, but what will be different about this book? How have the kids changed?

MK: The Secret Society explains more about the history and purpose of Poptropica. It also starts to pit the kids against each other a little bit. As they learn more about the mysterious organization, they find themselves disagreeing about the group’s motives and actions. There’s still a ton of action and peril, but now there’s tension between the kids about the right way and the wrong way to do things. The Lost Expedition was more of a pure survival story.

CC: Speaking of which, what about Captain Franklin and the crew of the HMS Terror? What happened to them?

MK: [diabolical laughter, devolving into a coughing fit]

…and there’s even a little something about Poptropica Worlds!

CC: Switching gears a bit. Poptropica players are on the edge of their seats waiting to play Poptropica Worlds. You’ve been hard at work on it. What can you tell us about it?

[…]

MK: We’ve still got big island quests with lots of characters, challenges, and plot twists. That hasn’t changed. But now we’ve got new features that make the quests more accessible to new players and that help returning players get back up to speed. The islands aren’t necessarily easier, but we’re giving players more tools to finish them.

Plus, we’re building tons of new stuff from the ground up, including a lot of things that Poptropicans have been requesting for years — like your own customizable house. It’s a brand-new game that is still unmistakably Poptropica.

And now for the Q&A we’ve all been waiting for…

CC: When can we expect to play Poptropica Worlds?

MK: What’s that? Couldn’t hear you. Bad connection.

Thanks, guys. 😂 I think we’ve figured that one out.

The End of Dye-me

Hey guys, my name is Brave Tomato, and I have some interesting stuff to share with you all today! Be warned: Spoilers for an upcoming book ahead.

The fourth Poptropica graphic novel, The End of Time, now has a cover and synopsis, as seen on its Amazon page! Check out this whirlwind of a cover:

end of time

And behold the synopsis (there does seem to be a spoiler-y tidbit for the end of the third graphic novel, however, so tread carefully):

Following the epic penultimate conclusion of The Secret Society, Oliver, Mya, and Jorge find themselves at an impasse: The Protectors’ headquarters lie in ruins; the nefarious Octavian is nowhere to be found; and they have no idea how their tampering with the timeline of Poptropica might affect history. As our heroes band together to save the mysterious, uncharted island world and find a way home, they are reminded of crucial events from their pasts—including how they were transported to Poptropica in the first place. The trio suddenly finds itself in the heart of Poptropica, where the Protectors discover the nexus of all time and are offered the opportunity to see what their lives would be like if they could change just one thing from their pasts. But will they choose to go down these alternate paths? Filled with heart and humor, this is the breathtaking finale Poptropica fans have been waiting for.

There’s a lot to take away from this synopsis. Yes, it does seem that the fourth graphic novel, as mentioned in Mitch Krpata’s interview from way back when, will be the finale of the Poptropica graphic novel series. (At least for the foreseeable future.)

Secondly… well, it seems like there’s going to be some intriguing stuff in the finale: changing fates, a ruined society, impasses… seems like everything’s all coming to a head here, ye who are fans of the graphic novel series! Don’t forget, the fourth (and final) book will come out September 12!

As for Book 3, that’s coming up sooner: it will be out in bookstores and will start shipping (if you pre-ordered) on April 11, a little under a month away.

Book 3 spoilers ahead: The Amazon listing for Book 3, The Secret Society, now contains a couple of spreads from inside the book: pages 50-51 and 74-75 respectively (oddly enough right smack in the middle of the story). You can check them out below if you’re interested, or shield your eyes away if you don’t want to see it just yet!

Anyway, what’s your first impression on The End of Time? How are you feeling about The Secret Society? If you’re a fan of the graphic novel series, are you excited? Share your thoughts in the comments!

In other (less exciting) news, a new how-to video was recently posted on the Poptropica Creators’ YouTube channel, demonstrating how to change your Poptropican’s hair color on 24 Carrot Island. Although you may already know how to do so, here’s the video in case you either don’t know or just want to see it!

Nice Bruno Mars reference to start off the video, by the way. 😉 🥕 It was pretty inevitable.

On Inspiration: Snap Stories and Wimpy Stories

Hello everyone! I finally got to a post before LJ or Fishy, aren’t you proud? I know I am because honestly 2016 has had too much horrible stuff happen already. We need some more positives.

Aside from the Carrie Fisher tribute, thankfully, the Creators’ official Snapchat also featured pics on a happier note: some #MyPoptropicaCostume contest entries! Check them out below.

The entries shown include “Sports Vendor” by Fast Lizard, “Diwali Outfit” by Lucky Joker (a PHB author!!!), and “Grunge Girl/Boy” by Spotted Dragon (another PHB author obviously, because that’s me!!!). I can’t really fairly talk about how great my own costume is, but the others are definitely pretty cool. Perhaps they’ll inspire you to enter something into the contest!

Remember that you can create your own outfit that might end up in the actual Poptropica store by posting it on Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #MyPoptropicaCostume, or directly to their Facebook page. Some updates to how the contest will end were mentioned just the other day, so be sure to check that out! The contest ends tomorrow, Dec 31 at midnight EST.

Moving on, we have a story other than that of Snapchat. This one, in contrast, focuses on Diary of a Wimpy Kid in an interview with Jeff Kinney conducted by Raymond Arroyo.

In the first half of the video, starting around 4:14, Poptropica is briefly mentioned, though no significant new information regarding the game was ever touched on. Here is Jeff’s commentary regarding Poptropica:

Poptropica really is a direct descendant of the Uncle Scrooge and Donald Duck books that I read as a kid where Carl Barks, this cartoonist, introduced me to my world. My whole basis of understanding of the world started with those comics – religion, psychology, psychiatry, you know; geology, history, everything came from those comics to start with, and I knew that we had this privilege – the privilege of the responsibility to communicate the kids’ world back to them. And they were reading about, they were experiencing things like Greek mythology for the first time. We had the chance to do that, so that’s why it’s been very edifying, rewarding to know it’s a lot of fun for kids.

The entire interview is mainly about the Wimpy Kid book series and Jeff Kinney’s inspiration for it. Still, if you’re a fan of his work, it’s worth the watch. 😉

And with that my friends, I have to leave you because it is literally 2 am where I am. Goodnight! Good morning!

Hello, everyone!

Lucky Joker here, sharing with you, some new updates from the Poptropica Creators!

This week has been filled with cool updates and sneak peeks for both, new and current Poptropica! First off, we got a cool look at the making of a monster worm. Then, we got some very creepy puppet costumes in the store, along with a new spooky wheel on Home Island. And now…

We have some awesome new fashion and followers! In the spirit of the season (that is, if you’re living in the northern hemisphere), Poptropica has come up with some more fall attire and Halloween gear!

Woof! Meow! What was that? Oh right! Poptropica now has something we’ve all been wanting for a while. They’ve heard the requests and now have added pet followers to the Poptropica store! How exciting, am I right?

Currently, a Cat Pack and a Dog Pack are available with three variations of each. But who knows what types of followers we will see in the new Poptropica? Perhaps other pets like turtles, rabbits, and more! But for now, I’m so happy these adorable creatures are now available for purchase. Check ’em out:

The Halloween Accessory Pack (250 credits) contains five different handheld items: a trick-or-treating jack-o-lantern, paper bag with candy, potion cauldron, science test tube, and gravedigger’s shovel.

The Cat Pack has three different cat breeds: a pure black one, a fuzzy gray kitty, and a calico cutie.

The Dog Pack comes with three furry dogs: a brown one, a loyal Labrador, and a happy mutt.

The girls’ versions of the other costumes are also slightly different, as you can see below:

The female Bog Monster (350 credits) has a flower on its head, Sportsball Girl doesn’t come with goggles like the Boy variant (275 credits), Skull Girl’s color is purple while Skull Boy’s is blue (300 credits), and Jill O’Lantern and Wolf Girl are a little different from Jack O’Lantern and Wolf Boy respectively (not to be confused with the Werewolf costume in the store).

Wolf Boy/Girl, Jack/Jill O’Lantern, and the pets (Cat Pack and Dog Pack) are all for members only. Members can also get anything in the store for free for the duration of their membership.

Cool creeptastic costumes (and pets) all around!

#PoptropicaArt Final Finalists!

Hello, everyone!

Lucky Joker here, to announce the last group of finalists of the #PoptropicaArt contest!

As announced on the Creators’ Blog, Poptropica has decided to choose yet another group of finalists because of how many great entries there were! They also stated that they were going to be deviating from their original plan by crowning more than three champions. I couldn’t agree with their decisions more, as so many pieces are deserving!

These 10 entries were selected from Twitter. If you haven’t seen the others, go and check out the finalists of round 1, round 2, round 3, round 4 and round 5!

This last group of finalists includes the works of Colette L., Crafty Poptropican, dictator crossing, DSFli Jean, Massive Bird, Shaky Skunk, Written Ghost and the PHB’s very own Brave Tomato (with two entries) and Slanted Fish! Here they are:

Like the Poptropica Creators said – so many great entries, right?! Congratulations to all of the #PoptropicaArt contest finalists, you all did an amazing job! Also a big high-five to all of the participants for trying. There were so many entries to choose from, so don’t feel bad if yours didn’t make it.

Stay tuned to the PHB and Creators’ Blog for the announcing of the winners!

In other news, Mitch Krpata, author of Poptropica: The Lost Expedition, will be attending this year’s Annual Festival of Children’s Books and Authors in Rhode Island – where he will be giving a presentation pertaining to his work and life. He will also be doing a book signing!

For those of you who are interested, get more details here! See you next time!
