Pop Petition: Make Mighty Action Force multiplayer

This is a guest post by Beefy Penguin (username: Durbadal) petitioning for Mighty Action Force, the card game from PoptropiCon Island, to be made into a multiplayer game for the Arcade. Enjoy!

Hi there, fellow Poptropicans. I’m Beefy Penguin, and I just finished the PoptropiCon trilogy. My favorite part? Mighty Action Force.

For those who don’t know, or need a refresher, Mighty Action Force is a Trading Card Game (TCG), which is a game where you collect different cards or trade them with others to build a deck and compete against others).

Now, I am a TCG fan (I play Cardfight Vanguard, a world-famous trading
card game), so when I saw the Mighty Action Force TCG, I felt that the
game deserved much more care and focus in the world of Poptropica.

So here’s what I’m petitioning: MAF should be released as a multiplayer TCG in the Arcade, so players can collect cards and compete with each other. (In fact, they should make a special room just for this game!)

A collection of Mighty Action Force cards.

Each player would have a basic deck, but that could be just the beginning. Single cards and booster packs could be obtained through quests, mini-games, trades, or purchased through credits. With so many characters on Poptropica, the possibilities for new cards are endless.

The game would be played against other players, head-to-head, in real time. A few new rules could be introduced to this game, like a clan system, the ability to boost your action with the power of another card, and to be able to defend against opponents’ attacks with the cards in one’s hand.

Poptropica has a lot of games in the Arcade—but nothing like this. It would be a great addition to the player experience, so I’d love to see it happen.

Until next time, stay popping!

Beefy Penguin out.

The Rise of Omegon’s Design

Hello, everyone!

It is I, Lucky Joker, and today I’ll be sharing with you a behind the scenes scoop on how Poptropica villain Omegon was created! As you may know, Omegon serves as the villain for one of December’s Islands of the Month, PoptropiCon Island.

Earlier today, Poptropica released some concept art of the different stages Omegon’s design went through to become what it is today. Let’s take a look! (For the original post, click here.)

Back in 2013, when Poptropolis Games Island was being updated, the Poptropica Creators designed tribal costumes (which were never used in the game). The Yellowjackets costume, however, was put into use and was modified to produce Omegon.

Omegon’s costume was then used to design the Hench-bot costume, and later the Meow-bot costume (which inspired Omegon’s final boss form). Compare between the concept art of Meow-bot and the final product. Pretty neat!

Omegon’s costume was also used to design many other costumes for the characters in the island. Check out these other designs!

The evolution of Omegon’s design occurred naturally, with many different Creators contributing to its creation. Some designs were scratched and brought back, and many small alterations were made to achieve the final look.

Former Poptropica creator, Lance Fry, even made this promotional piece showing some of the fully-developed designs.

Another Poptropica artist, Ashley Lange, came up with the Meow-bot designs and cohesively brought them together with the giant cat statues in Omegon’s realm. In the final boss fight, Omegon himself takes on the form of a giant robotic cat!

It’s pretty fascinating to know that all of the Creators work closely together on pretty much every aspect of an island. Here is Omegon’s visual development from start to finish:

Remember, PoptropiCon is an Island of the Month, so first-time finishers will receive 500 credits upon completion for each episode and repeat-finishers will receive 300 –That’s a lot of credits! Today is your last day to play, so go and take advantage of the credit boost.

Which designs were your favorite? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Thanks for reading, I’ll talk to you soon! Pop on!

Walking in a Wimpy Wonderland: IoTMs of December

Hello, everyone!

Lucky Joker here presenting December’s Islands of the Month!

This month’s featured islands are Wimpy Wonderland and PoptropiCon! I have to say Wimpy Wonderland is definitely fitting for the current season in the Northern Hemisphere. PoptropiCon on the other hand… eh, not so much. But hey! It’s a great island nonetheless.

December's IoTMs.png

As usual, first-time finishers of these islands will receive 500 credits and those who are replaying them will earn 300 credits.

But for PoptropiCon it’s a little different. You see, PoptropiCon is an episodic adventure so it would only make sense to offer more credits upon completing it, and that’s exactly what the Poptropica Creators have generously done! Each episode is worth the usual 500 or 300 credits depending on if you’ve played it or not. So that means you can obtain up to 1,500 credits after completing all three episodes for the first time, which I think is pretty cool! Also, the creators have gifted us by making Wimpy Wonderland available for all players to enjoy! It’s not specified whether this will be permanent or temporary, so complete it while you can!

I think making these islands with a very high credit prize definitely creates more interest for people who otherwise might not be really interested. It sure would work for me if I hadn’t already completed every island. 😛

Of course, there has to be a walkthrough for every Island of the Month. Captain Crawfish has already made a video walkthrough for each PoptropiCon episode and is currently working on one for Wimpy Wonderland now has one as well.

You can either watch his walkthrough for PoptropiCon or read the one here on the PHB! I definitely suggest reading the PHB’s written walkthrough for Wimpy Wonderland, so you can hurry and earn those credits! (Update: Captain Crawfish has a video now too!)

Well, I think it’s pretty cool that they finally featured both an episodic adventure and a non-SUI island for the IoTM. What do you guys think? Share your opinions in the comment section. Anyway, see you guys soon and POP on!

Poptropica: The Mighty Action Trailer Video!

Hey guys! It’s Ylimegirl, back by popular demand!

Today I’m here to talk about a video just posted by Poptropica’s YouTube channel, entitled “Poptropica: A fun and safe virtual world for kids!” It can also be viewed on the front page of the Poptropica website.

The video is less than a minute long and shows many of the different worlds in Poptropica.

And now, time for an over-analysis/summary of it!

The video starts off in the clouds and flies down through some islands before arriving at Mythology Island’s Mount Olympus, where we see a particularly angry Zeus send out a bolt of lightning.

Then a crowd of various Poptropica characters are shown at PoptropiCon as various streaks fly around, which are revealed to be the Mighty Action Force heroes Fashion Ninja, Goldface, Elf Archer, Teen Arachnid, and World Guy. (Nice of them to justify Elf Archer’s flying skills with some sort of… propeller-arrow thing, but how can World Guy and Fashion Ninja do it? I mean, even Teen Arachnid is a stretch with his web-slinging based on how they’re zooming around. Is it because of the magic auras? If that’s the case why did Elf Archer need the propeller-arrow? …I’m thinking too hard about this, aren’t I.)

Next a mystical space portal opens, showing us some… red glowing eyes? Dunno what that is. Maybe it’ll be relevant in the future.

Then it’s time for Zomberry Island, featuring Joe Puddy clinging to a giant blueberry rolling across a bridge. And then we get to see the Phoenix Warbird and whatever-Crawfish’s-ship-is-called fire cannons at each other. (And somehow they don’t destroy each other even though they’re approximately 10 feet apart.)

And for our closing shot, the Poptropica blimp (you can see the back view) travels over the various islands and up into the sky, revealing the title!

So, trailer! Has nice animation, but no rats. (Creators, why must you forsake us like this? You know all we truly want is rats!) They did feature Fashion Ninja and Teen Arachnid more prominently in PoptropiCon, meaning there might be more in store for that island and those characters. It also seems to hint at what’s to come with those red eyes in space. Seriously what was up with that. Well, it was a Daily Pop, but I still don’t really know what it means.

Speaking of Daily Pops, I found three others for this video: one of Mount Olympus, a rough of the blimp flying, and a 3D model of PoptropiCon. Looks like they’ve been working on this for at least six months. Well, kudos creators, all that time paid off. Looks really good!

That 3D model could possibly be a glimpse at how they’re using Unity to make a 2D game on a 3D platform. And there appears to be a more fluid animation style for Zeus and a slightly different look for the PoptropiCon heroes in the video, which might end up being related to New Pop. Or it’s just easier to animate that way, I dunno. At this point I think I’m just rambling.

So, there you have it! Proof that neither I nor Poptropica are dead.

Home Island, PoptropiCon Island

On your marks, get set, run!

Hey guys, Slip here!

hi

There’s a brand new event on Poptropica’s Home Island! It’s called Feats of Speed. You simply need to beat Speedy Sam in a race to get the prize! (Samwow5, I didn’t know you liked track and field! 😛)

feats

Once you land on Home Island, go to the left and you can easily spot Speedy Sam running on the treadmill. (He’s more fit than Samwow5! Just kidding. 😉 )

sam

Once you talk to him, he then dares you to beat him in the race to the PoptropiCon roof. The mini-game is similar to the race between you and the Cheetah Bandit in the first episode of PoptropiCon. If you need help, check out this video!

That was quick!

After you beat Speedy Sam, he will ask you to beat the world record. The default world record is 14 seconds, and the only way to receive the sneakers is to beat it! When you’re done, Speedy Sam will grant you your very own running sneakers — it’s the first time we get shoes to keep!

The sneakers work like Cheetah Bandit’s bottle cap amulet. When you move, it leaves a magic trail behind you. Cool, right?

shoes

Speedy Sam also tells us that this won’t be the last sneaker you’ll have! There will be another prize next week, so better train yourselves for the next challenge! What do you think it is?

What’s your world record? Make sure to like this post and share your world records in the comments!
