App

Hold your horses, there are Poptropica English apps!

Hey Poptropicans! Are you smarter than a fifth grader?

Although it doesn’t seem to have been mentioned anywhere, there’s a Poptropica English app out there for iOS devices – and it’s created by Pearson Education, the company that owns Poptropica. It’s targeted to 6-11 year-olds and is free on the App Store, but comes with in-app purchases.

The game is populated with Poptropica characters and contains mini-games such as City Hub, Word Factory, Word Race, and Word Tower. If you’re looking to brush up on elementary-level English vocabulary, or know someone who might want to, check it out!

UPDATE: There’s another one! Thanks to PHB reader Why are you reading my name for the tip. It’s also by Pearson, and it’s called Our Discovery Island: Phonic Tricksters. You can get it on the App Store or Google Play for free, but it does contain in-app purchases.

In Phonic Tricksters, the Tricksters (masked Poptropicans) are stealing English letter-sounds (phonemes) and you can catch them by taking photos with your phone camera. This game is for ages 4 and up. Unlike the other app, this one doesn’t seem to explicitly say the characters are Poptropicans.

In other news, the PHC (Poptropica Help Chat) recently had a (hopefully more eye-pleasing) makeover! If you haven’t already, check out the PHB’s Christmas party 2014 recap, which includes a video introduction to the PHC community and the things we get up to. Think of it as the PHC trailer. 😉

Also, I’ve changed my Poptropican’s look, which you may see around various places, including the new PHB Twitter header. The maroon hair matches my scarf! Rad. 😎

Plus, the PHB recently hit 15 million views! Stay tuned for a special treat… 😀

PHB Parties

Recap: PHB’s Christmas party 2014!

Hey Poptropicans! This weekend, the PHB invited Poptropicans young and old, meek and bold to join us in celebrating the holiday season on our chat, the PHC. Poptropicans met up in Multiverse rooms to throw fireworks and sneeze powder, picked and danced to Christmas songs on our plug.dj music station, chatted with PHB authors (Sam, SD, Blake, and yours truly) and more! Check out our recap:

If you’ve never been on the PHC before, especially during its peak hours, this video may be a good introduction to the shenanigans of the official PHB chat where Poptropicans regularly hang out!

Here’s a closer look at the recap picture at the end – the PHB’s Christmas card to all of you. 🙂

PHB Christmas 2014

Thanks to all who came; we hope it was fun! And even if you couldn’t make it to the party, remember that the PHC is always open as a hangout spot for all Poptropicans. 😀

Merry Christmas and happy holidays! ❤

Daily Pop, Dec 2014: Galactic Hot Dogs, Way Back Week, & more!

Hey Poptropicans! December isn’t quite over yet, but this month’s Daily Pop sneak peeks (and more) are already on Poptropica’s servers! A good chunk of this month’s peeks are for the upcoming Galactic Hot Dogs Island, so let’s take a look at those first (click here for round one of GHD!):

Among the sneak peeks, it looks like we’ll be traversing strange lands including a desert landscape, mushroom kingdom, a place with galactic food stands (Main Street?), and more. It seems we’ll also be stealing an Egg from a big bird’s nest and encountering some interesting creatures.

For more info on Galactic Hot Dogs Island, check out our GHD trivia page! Remember, also, that you can always browse the entire Daily Pop collection on the PHB’s Sneak Peek Archive.

Nestled among all the GHD pics is this sneak peek for the final installment of Arabian Nights Island, which features the spire with the telescope stand seen in Episode 1, but this time, night has fallen!

Finally, since the Creators will be taking a well-deserved break for the holidays, they’ve prepared a “Way Back Week” of peeks from December 26 to January 5, featuring throwback images from years ago. I especially like all the designs for E. Vile, the villain of the Legendary Swords mini-quest!

Again, be sure to check out the PHB’s Daily Pop Sneak Peek Archive (under the Cool Stuff tab) for a complete collection of Daily Pop images with their titles and captions, all the way from when they first began in November 2010 and updated monthly. Stay popping, Poptropicans! 😀

Goldfish Fun ad with Monsters, balloon, blimp icon, & more

Hey Poptropicans! The Goldfish Fun ad has been reincarnated a third time – this time, finding three garden-themed items will get you a three-eyed Monster Costume! 1) The seeds are near the tomato garden, 2) the soil is by the tree, and 3) the shovel is at the tree branch near the fence.

Also, click on the monster by the fence near the Monster Mayhem sign to receive the Monster Follower. (Thanks to Slippery Raptor for the pics & insight!)

Meanwhile, behind the scenes, Poptropica tweeted this picture of of an escape balloon. Whether this has to do with Balloon Boy remains to be seen, but they did respond to one concerned Poptropican regarding Balloon Boy that they’re “just not sure at this point”.

Another possibility is that this could be for the upcoming island based on the Poptropica comics – they did also recently post this experimental snapshot of Jorge (in his pink underwear) on Mythology Island:

Also, Ep. 1 of Arabian Nights (How Bazaar) is now free to download on Android devices. If you need a walkthrough, check out the PHB’s Arabian Nights Island Guide!

By the way, the Creators’ Blog recently updated their favicon (website icon) with the Poptropica blimp, the icon of the Poptropica app – about time they changed from the default Blogger icon. 😛

Interestingly, especially with the episodic islands, Poptropica has recently been doing away with the iconic yellow blimp – they’ve even confirmed that it won’t appear on GHD Island, which is coming at the end of January. Check out our Galactic Hot Dogs Island page for more info on the upcoming adventure!

Lastly, just a reminder that the PHB’s having a Christmas party this Saturday (Dec 20th), and we’d love to have you join – it’ll be fun! See the invitation post for more details. Stay popping, Poptropicans.

Caveman follower, Poptropica Realms, & more

Hey Poptropicans! There’s a new ad on Main Street for Night at the Museum 3: Secret of the Tomb, in theaters Dec 19 – just watch the video trailer to get your own Caveman Follower!

(It’s supposed to be on Night Watch Island, which would be clever considering the name of the film, except that for some players like me, ads never seem to appear on older/classic islands, although they can be found on SUIs like Shrink Ray!) You can also Costumize the nearby Sir Lancelot.

Meanwhile on social media, Poptropica has revealed a logo and name for what appears to be the second coming of the Land feature: Poptropica Realms. This might even involve the “create your own worlds (planets)” sneak peek unveiled earlier! Hmmm, indeed.

They’ve also posted PopStorm #10, titled “anticipation”, and featuring… a birthday boy, chasing after – a burger on wings…? Just what exactly becomes of these PopStorms? Interesting, though.

The Creators also posted another YouTube video, this one showing off the latest Galactic Hot Dogs prize pack (more details here) as well as the GHD ad game on the Poptropica app (more details here) —

Lastly, to anyone who’s called Poptropican people “ugly”…

it is only natural to envy my looks

True story. Anyway, that’s all for now! 😀 Stay popping, Poptropicans.
