My Place in Poptropica

My Place in Poptropica: Silly Socks

This is theĀ MyĀ Place in PoptropicaĀ story of Silly Socks, who found Poptropica through Diary of a Wimpy Kid and literally dreams about being on the PHB team.Ā See below for details on how to send in your MPIP story to be published here on the PHB!

mpip sillysocks

My name is Silly Socks and I’m sorry if I get off-topica. *eyes roll* My username is epic45. I live in Canada. I belong to the Wildfire tribe. I’m not a great artist, but I try to draw Dr. Hare. He looks pretty good. Speaking of Dr. Hare, he is my favorite villain in Poptropica. I’m a fan of the blog too. *takes deep breath* Okay, here I go.

The Early Years

Many years ago, when I was about 3, I remember my brother playing Wimpy Wonderland Island and even letting me try. I kept on running into the door to the basement were Rodrick was playing.

I later forgot about Poptropica. But I remembered random pieces of it, like the old login screen, Wimpy Wonderland, Dr. Hare, and Greg from Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

Years Later

Years later, I fell in love with the Diary of a Wimpy Kid book series. One day I saw a link to the Diary of a Wimpy Kid website on the back of a book. I checked it out and saw something that looked like the membership symbol, which I clicked on—and it turned out to be Poptropica!

Upon rediscovering Poptropica, I saw things that I had remembered, like the login screen. That’s how I got back into the game.

Me, my friends, and Poptropica vs. Prodigy

My real name is Elizabeth, and I was born in mid-December 2008, which makes me 9, almost 10 today. I’ve tried to bring others to Poptropica.

I have friend named Mikolas who has joined, but he can’t remember how to come to this blog. Mikolas shares a locker at school with another friend, Gavin, who also wants to join Poptropica. Mikolas doesn’t want Gavin to know about Poptropica, but I don’t think that’s fair or nice.

There’s a game I have called Prodigy that I sometimes play. But I also like Poptropica—well, not just like—I love Poptropica! 😊Poptropica is definitely my favorite. It’s my favorite because, unlike Prodigy, Poptropica wouldn’t rub membership in my face (though I still don’t like the idea of membership ☹).

Dreaming to be on the blog

One day I found the PHB because of a YouTube video. The video was about how to do an ASG, and I wanted to do one. So, I went to the help blog and eventually got caught up in the community over here. I comment on this blog as poptropica girl.

My dream is to be a part of the Poptropica Help Blog team. I do, literally, dream about it. Recently, I had a dream about it that started with me in my schools’ playground. I had customized pretty, hot pink, long, blond pigtails. Then the earth became Poptropica. It was night and I had just been invited to the PHB team… but, sadly, it was just a dream.

No matter what, I think I would’ve found my way to Poptropica somehow. I’ve also started to like blogging and I encourage you to write a guest post for the PHB, too. I want to see more “My Place in Poptropica” posts. I’d like to know more about you and your Poptropican. That’s it for now!

Advertisements

The three (or four) realms of ads

Hey Poptropicans, what’s popping?

If you head over to the map, you’ll find three new ads with prizes to play with! Everyone can play, of course, but members especially have a new incentive to play — they get to keep these prizes even after the ad campaigns end.

The most extra of these new ads is a castleĀ for the upcoming Disney flick, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, in theaters November 12. Talk to the girl in the purple dress, Clara, to begin the game, wherein you jump over obstacles in some creepy woods to chase a mouse with a key. Plus, if you turn up your sound, you’ll hear the spooky version of the Monster Carnival Island theme in the background!

Upon completion, you’ll win two prizes: a Music Box handheld item and Soldier Transformation costume and power.

The Music Box, when activated, will send snow falling on your screen and play a twinkly “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.” The Soldier Transformation, besides being a costume, can also send out soldiers to run out by your orders.

Another ad going on — and this one also with sound! — is for Frosted Flakes, with the premise being “a concert in the park.” Talk to Tony the Tiger to start the game, which is like Guitar Hero but with cereal. With volume up, you’ll hear guitar riffs in the background.

Once you’ve successfully played your set, you’ll win a Tony Transform (which turns your character into Tony) and Cereal Rain, which sends various colors of Frosted Flakes falling down your screen.

One more ad, and this one’s simpler: LEGO Boost has video stall on Mythology Island. Watch the vid, and you’ll get a Robot Cat Follower. Meow.

And now for some ads of our own…

  • The PHB’s 10th Annual Halloween Contest is in full swing, and we eagerly await your entries! Enter your most casual or creepy costumes before it’s too late
  • Community Creations is also seeking entries this month for the theme of “Villains”! Create something (even if just for fun) and send it in!
  • The Poptropica Creators are doing a contest with the Halloween Photo Booth. Post your creations on Instagram and use the tag #SpookyPop to enter!

Until next time, Poptropicans! Keep ‘troppin on. šŸšŸŽøšŸ˜ø

šŸ The PHB’s 10th Annual Costume Competition: the Casual & the Creepy šŸŽƒ (Win a Pop membership!)

PHB hallo10

Calling all Poptropicans! Have you got what it takes to dress your Poptropican up for the season? Then enter your costume into the Poptropica Help Blog’s 10th Annual Costume Competition! (Can you believe we’ve been doing this for ten years??)

This year we’re presenting two categories: the “Casual” for your everyday style as well as theĀ traditional “Creepy.” You can enter from Poptropica Original and/or Worlds!

Tips for a casual or creepy costume

As you put together your entry (or entries — feel free to submit as many times as you like!), keep in mind the following:

  • šŸ Be original!Ā Instead of just using all the parts of one costume that already exists, mix and match to create your own unique costume.
  • šŸŽƒĀ For CREEPY VIBES:Ā There are someĀ great Halloween costume partsĀ at the ghoul gathering from the end of theĀ Haunted HouseĀ quest from the Store, but be creative and search in other places too! We have tools like theĀ Avatar Studio GiftĀ (ASG) andĀ iPopĀ to help you find just the right parts you need.
  • šŸ˜ŽĀ For CASUAL VIBES: In addition to our massive ASG collection, simply hopping about in other places can help you locate some cool pieces! Try the Home Island “New You” place, clothes from Night Watch Island mall stores like “In the Now,” as well as browsing your friends’ threads to see what they’ve got!
  • šŸ Keep your costume intactĀ until after the winners are announced on October 31 (Halloween). If you change your costume before then, we may not see it!Ā If you don’t want to keep the costume on your main account, you can create a new one and post the link to that instead. Or, send us aĀ screenshotĀ from theĀ Avatar StudioĀ in the same way as you see cropped on ourĀ ASG page. (Entries for Worlds will require a screenshot — don’t worry, it’s a simple process!)
  • šŸŽƒĀ Optional:Ā Give your costume a groovy name.Ā It’ll help your costume stand out even more, and if it wins, we’ll refer to it by the name you’ve given it!

How to enter your costume

Once you’ve assembled your costume on Poptropica, here’s how to share it with us:

  • šŸĀ To post your entry forĀ Poptropica Original,Ā go to theĀ Avatar Studio, type in your username, clickĀ Load, click on theĀ LinkĀ to highlight it, right-click and chooseĀ Copy. Then, go to the comments section right here onĀ this post, right-click and chooseĀ Paste, type in your comment (you can include your username if you’d like to) and submit it, so we can view your costume by clicking the link!
  • šŸĀ To post your entry forĀ Poptropica Worlds,Ā go to your closet and take a screenshot (see instructions hereĀ for screenshotting on any computer or mobile device). Then, upload your screenshot on an image hosting website such asĀ imgurĀ orĀ TinyPic, copy the link to your image, and insert the link into your comment so we see it!

For both categories, you can submitĀ as many entriesĀ as you like, but if you do, make sure toĀ use multiple accountsĀ so that you don’t overwrite the last costume you put on. Remember, though, you can only win aĀ maximum of one time for each game.

The contestĀ closesĀ on Tuesday,Ā October 30. Winners will be announced October 31.

Winners & Prizes

  • šŸ‘»Ā On Halloween (October 31), we’ll make a post featuring the winning costumes on theĀ front page of the PHBĀ for all to see,Ā *PLUS*Ā 3 top winners will each receive aĀ one-month Poptropica membership, courtesy of the Poptropica Creators!
  • šŸ‘»Ā The winning costumes will also beĀ immortalizedĀ on the PHB’sĀ Costumes page, where you can see examples of past Halloween winners.
  • šŸ‘»Ā We’ll haveĀ 10 winners total – 5 costumes for each category – as well as some honorary mentions for just the post, but not the page. Three top winners will be selected from among the ten.

šŸ˜ŽšŸŽƒāœØĀ Happy Costumizing! āœØšŸŽƒšŸ˜Ž

šŸ¦‡Ā P.S. If you’re feeling especially artistic in this spooky season,Ā be sure to participate inĀ this month’sĀ Community Creations. The theme for October is Villains!

Pop Petition: Free the Colorizer on Worlds for all

Hey Poptropicans! Here’s a guest post by Gentle Fang on how the Colorizer helped her express herself on Poptropica Original and why such a feature ought to be more accessible to all on Poptropica Worlds. Check it out, and enjoy. ~ 🐠

Pop Petition Header

Hey guys! It’s Gentle Fang! If you have never heard of me, I did my own MPIP back in 2017 about a year ago, and also wrote a guest post about several islands in 2016. I have been playing Poptropica for about 6 years now (not all that consistently), and I really enjoy exploring islands and getting involved in the community.

As I have been playing for quite some time, I found that I had completed almost all the islands and had little left to do. As such, when Poptropica Worlds was first announced, I wasĀ overjoyed.Ā I was so happy they were finally going to make new islands, add new material, and improve upon the characters.

When I got around to playing the new Poptropica Worlds once it came out, however, I found that I was underwhelmed. First off, talk about bad first impressions—the game took FOREVER to load. I had always been able to switch from scene to scene in a second on Poptropica Original, but I found that on Worlds it took quite some time.

When I was finally able to get into my closet to change my character, I was quite upset to find that the Colorizer — one of my favorite parts of Poptropica Original — was for members only. (Well, non-members get a few pre-selected colors for free. But that’s nothing compared to Poptropica Original.)

popworlds summer update 4

My style is what sets me apart from the crowd. For years, I’ve had an outfit that was a mixture of all my favorite costumes, a little pet cat I called Buttons, and most importantly myĀ bright turquoise hair. That hair color was the only thing about me that never changed. Hairstyles change (in real life, I recently cut off over 6 inches of hair). My outfit is almost constantly being modified (for some reason I went through a phase where I dressed like a police officer). My character also sometimes has glasses, and recently got freckles. The entire look was my way of expressing myself.

Most of my character’s traits represented something about my personality: her diva outfit showed my dramatic personality, her occasional glasses represented that although I need glasses I hardly ever wear them, and the new freckles reflected the ones that appeared on my actual face. But the hair didn’t represent my physical state — it represented my boldness.

Although I am not currently allowed to dye my hair, I know brightly colored hair would turn heads. That’s what I like to do — I am not someone who enjoys blending in or staying in the crowd. I wasn’t allowed to get a membershipĀ on any gaming sites because my parents didn’t trust technology that much, so I couldn’t buy anything that only members received. This meant I only had a minuscule amount of clothes and accessories to choose from. Since the Colorizer was free for everyone on Poptropica Original, and came with a wide array of colors, I was sucked in.

Six years of turquoise hair later, I was more than disappointed when my favorite color was taken away too, becoming a privilege only given to members. Of course, I attempted to get my mother to agree to buy me a membership, to no avail. I know that there are other kids or teenagers like me who cannot purchase a membership for whatever reason, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be able to express themselves.

I understand that memberships make the company money to keep Poptropica free. But I also think that things that were not under lock and key in Poptropica Original should remain that way in Worlds.

So, in closing, I would like to propose that the Poptropica Worlds Colorizer to ought to be accessible in its entirety to everyone.

This nifty tool is something that I quite enjoyed for more than half my life, and I would be very upset if it was removed from the game permanently for players without membership. I would very much like for this amazing tool to be made free for all.

Thanks so much for listening.

—Gentle Fang
