What’s popping, Poptropicans? Blake here, with a post announcing that the public preview of Poptropica Land has dropped! Now non-members can join in the fun of Poptropica Land from now until October 30. The Creators are challenging everyone to submit a Land creation for several themes:

This weekend’s theme, from October 16 to 19, is Dream Home, so I’m just gonna link to this little tidbit here. Anyway, for upcoming themes, check out the graphic above! Note: you don’t have to follow any specific theme when you play around with Land. It’s your Land, so do what you want with it! 🙂

To get started, just visit the map and click on Land, or get the Poptropica Labs gold card from the Store. You can submit your Land to the Creators’ contest through the in-game menu. For a walkthrough on how to use the Land feature, check out our Poptropica Labs (Land) Guide!

Now, here’s a little extra for this post. My friend Captain Spencer had a bit of a theory. Let’s discuss this – here on “Blake Pops a Theory”!

This theory is called the Poptropica Parallel Theory. What if every Island exists in another dimension? This would explain how no matter what you do on other Islands, nobody recognizes you whatsoever on each separate island. Greg Heffley on Wimpy Wonderland doesn’t, Van Buren on Survival doesn’t, and even the PASE crew (the Poptropica version of NASA on Lunar Colony) doesn’t recognize you!

This theory basically states that each Island by itself exists on its own dimensional plane, and the blimp allows you to travel between dimensions (separate, parallel worlds unaware of each other). It’s plausible, except for the fact that somehow, we’re told to travel to Early Poptropica Island during the Counterfeit Island quest.

Also, how/why did we get our blimp for free at the beginning of the game, when a device that lets you go to other dimensions could cost thousands? Well, one guess is that our blimp was a present from our Poptropican’s “parents” or some guardian wanting us to go through the different dimensional planes; someone who wants us to keep saving every Island in crisis.

Poptropicans, the world just got a whole lot more wibbly wobbly, timey wimey. 20 points for Gryffindor if you get that reference.

Balance the Boxtrolls: ad game

What’s popping, Poptropicans? Blake here — what? Okay, so the title IS a bit lazily written, but so is the novel based on Disney’s Maleficent. Don’t judge.

Anyway, a new ad has exploded onto Main Streets near you to advertise the new LAIKA and Focus Films movie, “The Boxtrolls“! When you arrive on Main Street (I went on Mythology Island), you’ll be greeted by Eggs (who names a kid Eggs? I DO, THAT’S WHO!) and his stylishly-clothed Boxtroll companions, in front of what I suppose is a Boxtroll hole.

Now, you remember that tightrope portion of that old Open Season 3 ad from a few years back? If you do, the inside of this ad building is going to remind both you and me of that same ad. The game is called Balance the Boxtrolls.

To play, just point your mouse left or right to balance the Boxtrolls, and assist Eggs and the Boxtrolls in changing a lightbulb. (hey, hey guys — how many Boxtrolls does it take to change a lightbulb? FIVE, THAT’S WHAT IT SHOWS IN THE SCREENSHOT! HAHAHA *ok, I laugh way too hard at my own jokes…*)

If you win, you’ll be greeted by a little cutscene of the Boxtrolls changing the light themselves (why did we even bother helping), and you’ll get two prizes, the Boxtroll Buddy and Boxtroll Transformer! Before you ask about the name of the latter – no, this is not Hasbro/Michael Bay CCH CHH CHH CHH Transformers; this is something that turns other Poptropicans into Boxtrolls. This is me showing off the prizes in all their.. um… oil and shoe-iness?

Winners of the PHB’s Land Construction Contest!

What’s popping, Poptropicans! Blake here, with the long-awaited results of the Poptropica Help Blog’s Land Construction Contest! I got seven total entries, which was a little disappointing considering the PHB’s audience, but nonetheless, the results must be posted! The winner…

of the Land contest… *fumbles with envelope* …is… Why is it not opening..? *envelope opens* Aah, there it is. The winner of the Poptropica Land Construction Contest is… well, we had a lot of great entries, and I don’t want to offend anyone, but…

Anyway, the winner, with no more stalling, is Silver Wolf with her Holes-based Land! Holes is a really good film and it’s based on the novel by the same name, written by Louis Sachar.

Not only was this build really well-crafted, it also really struck a chord with the judges: me, my two clones, and CaptainSpencer, avid PHB reader! Well done, SW! (As usual, click to enlarge all images.)

Now, for the remainders — the runners-up:

In 2nd place, we have Spotted Dragon with her Cloud Kingdom Land! This land was really well-built too, although it took me a bit to make it up to take pictures:

In 3rd place, we have Imagi Cat with her prison cell! Again, I was limited to only taking a screenshot of a small portion as the structure was built close to the ground — but this is pretty original!

In 4th place, we have Magic Fire with her self-portrait! Since the Creators can take way better pictures than I can, and they featured MF’s Land on their blog, I’ll just insert the same picture for you guys:

Coming up in 5th place, we have Nameless Undefined with her… well, I actually don’t know what it is, because my Chromebook decided it was too awesome to capture a picture of it for you guys. (Maybe she’ll supply us with a screenshot?)

Next, in 6th place, we have Davina N. with her bunker! This bunker has ELEVEN, count them, ELEVEN layers of apocalypse protection!

PHB’s Poptropica Land (alpha v2) Construction Contest!

What’s popping, Poptropicans? Blake here. In correlation with the earlier festivities for the PHB’s 13 million, I decided to create a little contest of my own: a Poptropica Land Construction Contest!

We promised a community event involving Land, and this is it! Now, Poptropica has already featured some creations on their Twitter, and for inspiration, here are some more from the Creators’ Blog:

From Bony Owl, a steamship having a close encounter with a submarine.

From Cuddly Cloud, a palatial country estate.

From Dizzy Popper, an underground labyrinth.

From Friendly Singer, a castle fit for royalty.

They’re great and all, but they haven’t entered this competition, and besides, we believe you guys can do better… so, onto the contest! 😀 Poptropica Land is now in alpha version 2, and you’ll need to be a member to get the Poptropica Labs card in the Store that will allow you to play “Poptropica Minecraft”. For a guide on how to get started with building, check out the PHB’s Poptropica Labs page!

the rules:

You must use Poptropica Lands for this contest. That’s the point! This means no other programs (Minecraft, Unturned, Sir Buildsalot’s Buildatron *that last one is fake, don’t go looking for it*)
Build anything you want! That’s the purpose of Poptropica Lands, after all! Build watchtowers, treehouses, statues of yours truly, anything, really! Just be sure that what you make is original.
When you’re ready, download a POP file of the world you created.
You can send in more than one design, but keep in mind that for those who win, only one design max will be chosen per person to give others a fairer chance.
You have until September 5th to email your POP file (or screenshots, if you prefer) to me at vampirelord108(at)gmail(dot)com (I’ll be judging, of course.)

Well, that’s pretty much it for the rules. Now, for the moment you’ve all been waiting for, prizes!

1st prize is a feature in the winners’ post, plus a rare account from my arsenal.
10 runners-up will receive a mention in the winners’ post.
Sadly, the files cannot be shared via WordPress, but featured winners will get screenshots of their Land shown on the PHB. Exciting, isn’t it?
