The Devil Wears Poptropica: Hallowinners of the PHB’s 14th Costume Contest ๐ŸŽƒ๐Ÿ˜ˆ๐Ÿ’Ž

๐Ÿ˜ˆ Happy Halloween, Poptropicans! ๐ŸŽƒ

Hope you’re having a fang-tastic day! The time has come for us to announce the winners of this year’s Poptropica Help Blog Halloween Costume Contest, our 14th annual round.

Themed “The Devil Wears Poptropica,” this year we sought your spooky suits with a special twist: the costumes had to have something blue. ๐Ÿ’Ž And you delivered โ€” now here comes the petrifying parade!

๐Ÿฅ‰ Third Prize ๐Ÿฅ‰

1-month Poptropica membership

“Electric Beast” by HeartOfEnder

Check out this electrifying fit! HeartOfEnder dazzled us with this casual yet chilling combo, with a horned beanie and skeletal hoodie paired with powerful pieces of wings, a tail, and a lightning staff. And keeping with the theme, blue is a central color throughout the look. Striking!

๐Ÿฅˆ Second Prize ๐Ÿฅˆ

3-month Poptropica membership

“Boogie Bones” by Jean of Pop

Back from three previous victories in 2019, 2020, and 2021, Jean of Pop dances their way to the podium once again with this groovy getup from the underworld. While the pulsing cobalt afro definitely checks the box for blue, the rest of the outfit also weaves in some nice navy alongside some spooky skeletal white pieces. Snazzy!

๐Ÿฅ‡ First Prize ๐Ÿฅ‡

6-month Poptropica membership

“The Dokkaebi” by Magic Poptropican

What a beast! Magic Poptropican brings us chills with this dokkaebi ๋„๊นจ๋น„, a goblin-like creature from Korean mythology. Spikes abound from the horns on the head, down the back, and through the giant club it wields. Besides the peeks of blue, its bright red skin and piercing eyes also add to the scare โ€” a frightening fellow on par with Fairytale’s Rumpel.

Congrats to all the Hallowinners! In addition to the membership prizes, their outstanding outfits will be immortalized in our Lookbook. Enjoy!

๐Ÿ’Ž Honorable Mentions ๐Ÿ’Ž

We loved seeing all your devilishly delightful looks and just had to share more highlights. Plus, check out the PHB team’s costumes in the original contest post, and more entries in the comments there too! ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ–ค

๐ŸŽƒ Happy Halloween, Zomberries and cherries! ๐ŸŽƒ

Interview with Smart Icicle from the Poptropica Creators ๐ŸŽคโ„๏ธ

Hello! Welcome to the next part of our series with the Pop Creators interviewing members of the PHB team. Meet Smart Icicle!

1. How were you first introduced to Poptropica?

Ah yes, the nostalgic times. I found Poptropica when I was around 10 years old. Me and my friend were sharing one Windows 7 computer, looking at ads on our games. We had never heard of Poptropica before, but we were in the mood to try something new.

So we created our first account together: Bronze Socks. (If the name sounds familiar to you, yes, that’s my Community Creations partner!) Anyway, this was during the peak of Poptropica, with the Multiverse, all the islands you could play, everything.

After a while, we each got a computer and didn’t have to share anymore, so me and my friend went our separate ways. I continued to play Poptropica as Smart Icicle (username: Target1051). Here’s me on the New You building of an older Home Island!

2. Who do you think is the most underrated character? Overrated?

My choice for underrated character โ€” I found many, but I would have to say the magistrate from Ghost Story Island. He’s nostalgic to consider, yet a bit villainous โ€” after all, he did orchestrate a murder.

The most overrated character right now, in my opinion, would be Rumpelstiltskin. With all the Fairytale Island lore ongoing these past couple of years, including Rumpel’s possession of the Baron, and now being hunted by the Red Queen, it seems Rumpel is highly ranked among people’s villain tiers. Still, I wish each villain could get equal love in the community, rather than the hype often going to the same ones.

3. What are your favorite scenes, aesthetically and to play through?

I love seeing Binary Bardโ€™s and Dr. Hare’s dreams in Super Villain Island. Another one is the Imperial Garden from Red Dragon โ€” at one point, I even set it as my phone wallpaper because I loved it so much!

I also liked most of the scenes from Arabian Nights, which have some of my favorites to play through as well: catching Scheherazade as a genie, and being in her princess room. And I enjoy a good villain takedown โ€” although I didn’t get to witness them from personal experience since the gameplay was difficult, it was fun watching Captain Crawfish, Binary Bard, Dr. Hare, and Black Widow getting defeated.

4. From your perspective, how have you seen the Poptropica Help Blog (PHB) and community change over time?

To me, it’s an equation: Pop changes = PHB changes. Every time Poptropica changes, the PHB does as well. So much has happened to the game over the years, and the community has evolved too. I’ve seen this mentioned often and completely agree that, with the end of Flash in 2020, many people lost interest in Pop, including myself.

Perhaps the pandemic had something to do with the game’s momentum slowing down. But despite the shifts, I’m still happy to see the PHB keep going, and parts of Pop still hanging onto some of its OG content.

Eye Alone: Looking out from within.

5. How has your PHB career surprised you?

I was really excited to see what would happen after I became a staff writer on the PHB. My PHB career surprised me because it sent huge waves of creativity that I never knew I had, plus it changed my writing style. Before joining the team, as a reader, I had zero creativity and zero interest in writing. I have to say thank you to Slanted Fish for this opportunity to write about something that I enjoy. After joining the PHB, I was inspired to continue writing, and even started my own blog.

World Warriors: Welcome back to the stage of history.

6. What inspires you?

Music, video games, family history, movies, TV shows โ€” they all inspire me. As the saying goes: Inspiration is the key to success. Even watching other people writing inspires me.

7. What does the Pop community mean to you?

The Pop community means a lot to me. It feels like another whole family to me. I love just watching everyoneโ€™s whole different approaches and ideas, and I feel like I helped inspire new guest writers on the blog.

Turban Core: Into the heart of a den of thieves.

8. How have your experiences with the community and Poptropica influenced you IRL?

I would say Pop has influenced me a lot IRL. It not only brought back my creativity and love of writing, it also made me love trying out new games to enjoy on the web.

9. Outside of Poptropica and your PHB involvement, what are you passionate about?

I love my family, friends, teachers, and writing. They all just make me feel me

Pop Puzzles: What’s Missing? Round 5 ๐Ÿง

Hey Poptropicans, this is a guest post by Dizzy FeatherEnjoy!

Brony: Don’t say no, here we go, off across the plain.

Hello everyone, Dizzy Feather here with round five of โ€œWhatโ€™s Missing?โ€ Here’s how the game works:

I’ll show you screenshots from Poptropica with a detail covered up, and you try to guess what the missing piece is. Leave your guesses in the comments of this post, and in about a week I’ll share the answers and shout out those who got any of them correct! A couple of rules:

  • No cheating! Don’t go in-game to the area shown to find the answers, and don’t copy someone else’s answers (best not to look before sharing yours). Not only would that be cheating others, but you’ll be taking the fun away from yourself!
  • Have fun! It’s just a game. Don’t pressure yourself to get them all.

Now that we’ve got that down, let’s start this PoptropiCon Island, Ep. 2 edition puzzle! You may need to click on images to view them in full.

So what’s missing? Share your guesses in the comments, and if you’re right, I’ll mention you when I reveal the answers. Good luck!

Hope you enjoyed this guest post by Dizzy Feather. If you did, you might also enjoy previous rounds of “What’s Missing?”: Round 1, 2, 3 and 4.

The Poptropica Help Blog welcomes interesting Poptropica insights from anyone in the Poptropica community with thoughts to share. Interested in writing for the PHB? Weโ€™d love to hear from you!

Mini Quests, Zomberry Island

Zomberry Hero: Back a Second Slime ๐Ÿ๐ŸงŸ

Hey Poptropican heroes โ€” the limited time special event Zomberry Hero is back with a similar dose of infected zombies to cure!

To get started with this mini-game inspired by the classic Zomberry Island, talk to the school bus driver on Home Island or find its map icon.

Almost exactly like the version that debuted in 2020, your task is to search for zombies among the dark cityscapes and blast them with your gun filled with pineapple slime antidote to rid them of their disease. But if you get too close, your fear meter will go up โ€” too high and you’ll have to restart the level. After three levels, you’ll win 1,000 credits!

To see how it’s done, check out this official playthrough video or our Zomberry Hero Guide from when the game first released. When in Poptropica, Covid’s got nothing on tainted blueberries!

While the latest Zomberry outbreak appears pretty similar to the previous, PHB reader Silver Horse noticed that some of the infected Poptropicans from the original game in 2020 are merely scene assets in 2022, making the game much easier with fewer actual zombies this time around. Some characters were also switched up, with new additions like Burt Diamond and Black Widow replacing others like Shark Boy. And as Dizzy Feather notes, some NPCs have had their dialogue cut.

Despite the two years that have elapsed since the first Zomberry Hero event, which promised a sequel, no new levels were added. Once again, upon completion, players will simply see “To be continued…”

Besides the return of this special event, we’ve got a few spooky season shindigs here on the PHB too: be sure to enter ourย Halloween costume contestย and make some art forย Community Creationsย andย Poptober.

๐ŸงŸโ€โ™€๏ธ Now go be a Zomberry Hero! ๐ŸงŸโ€โ™‚๏ธ
