Greetings, Poptropicans! The time has come once again for our annual Halloween costume contest. We took some inspiration from the latest island, for this year’s theme is Grim & Whimsical!
From the dark tales collected by the Brothers Grimm to the lighthearted flicks adapted by Disney, the subject matter and tone of fairytales have evolved over many centuries. For this year’s PHB Halloween contest, you can embrace the macabre as a monster or a witch 😈, or wish upon a star as a knight or a fairy godmother. 💫
To get the hype going, the PHB team took on either of the two sides (Grim for the first half, Whimsical for the second) to create some costume inspiration for everyone!

📝 Here are the rules for entering the contest:
- 🦸 Create your costumes on Poptropica! You may enter each category as many times as you wish. However, each person is eligible to win just once per category.
- 🪟 Take a screenshot of your costume entry on either the character customization screen or the Customizer window on PoptropiCon. That way, the background is fairly clear. If you don’t know how to take a screenshot, here are some instructions on how to do so, which will vary depending on your device.
- ⬆️ Upload your pic to the internet. You can post your entry to image sharing sites like Imgur or social media platforms like Discord, Twitter or Instagram. No matter where you post it, the important thing is to comment on this post and include a link to your entry. In your comment, please also mention the category you are entering, the name of your costume, and anything else you want to share.
🎭 Tips for Creating Your Costume 👯♀️
- 🏪 Make use of the store! Dig through old store items or buy new store costumes to mix and match pieces together.
- 🚁 Borrow from the Baron! The Baron on Home Island is here all month with amazing Halloween costumes — for free!
- 👕 On PoptropiCon, use the Costumizer to snag parts from NPCs.
- 👾 You can use glitching tools like MAP (for individual parts) or the ASG Machine (for full costumes) along with usernames from our ASG collection.
- 👉 Visit the PHB’s Costumes Look Book for more ideas, including past Halloween contest winners and Pop fashion tips and tricks.

- 🗓 Deadline: The contest closes on Friday, October 29.
- 🎃 On Halloween (October 31), we’ll post our favorite costumes from each category on the front page of the PHB for all to enjoy.
- 🌟 A grand prize winner will be selected for each category. Each grand prize winner will receive a 1-month Poptropica membership.
- 🕺 Winning costumes will be immortalized on our Costumes page, but we’ll also have honorable mentions for just the post, not page.

Just so you know, most of my Whimsical costumes will be based on mythology of any kind, particularly Greek, Roman, or Norse, since I find most things in mythology whimsical.
