Daily Pop Sneak Peeks, New Islands, The Missing Link

The Missing Link: Asgard

(¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.-> Hi Gs, <-.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯)

Some other bloggers and I have covered many different possibilities for new islands this year. I’ve put together a list, and I think you should read it before going on;

Have you read through them? Good. I bet you recognized 3 out of 4 of those islands from our prediction posts, or from Poptropica itself. But the last one made you make a double take. Why didn’t I include Fuzzy B’s “Atmos Island” or “Twisted Twice Island”? Because there will not be an Atmos or Twisted Twice Island. It’s been under our noses for far too long.

The picture above is a Daily Pop from 2011. The title of the post is “To Valhalla” and the description reads “Could this be the setting of a new Island?”

In Norse mythology, Valhalla (from Old NorseValhöll “hall of the slain”) is a majestic, enormous hall located in Asgard, ruled over by the god Odin… Before the hall stands the golden tree Glasir, and the hall’s ceiling is thatched with golden shields. Various creatures live around Valhalla, such as the stag Eikþyrnir and the goat Heiðrún, both described as standing atop Valhalla and consuming the foliage of the tree Læraðr. Read More

Ok, so you think because of a Daily Pop 3 years ago that Asgard island is going to be a thing now? Wait a minute, people — there’s more to the story.

You may know about Asgard to an extent. According to Norse mythology, Asgard is one of the nine worlds of the gods. If you don’t care, let me remind you that Thor himself comes from this mythology! It is ruled by Odin, and it is floating. Yes, floating above the earth. It is made up of castles in the sky.

Need I say more? The next Poptropica island after Monster Carnival very well may be Asgard Island (or something similar). All I know is that the island is going to be based on Norse mythology. Below are some Daily Pops (and non-Pop Norse mythology pictures) that are probably connected to Asgard Island. And remember that this is just a theory (although still a pretty plausible one 😛 ):

So what do you think? Tell me in the comments! 😀

PHB Sneak Peeks: Mapping out Real Life Poptropicans!

EDIT: The site redirects to Poptropica now… they must’ve seen this post.

Hey everyone! HP found something really cool today and told me to post about it! If you visit this link, you’ll find Google Maps on a Poptropica page, but tailored for Poptropica. It’s called Poptropica Visitor Map (or “Poptropica Birth Announcements” on your tab).

mappop2

(I was looking around on it, and the pic at my house was my dad and I working on a floodlight while my neighbor’s yard was torn out… great picture of our house though xD).

Anyway, it seems to be for showing where and when Poptropica accounts are being born, and although it’s not fully operational yet, maybe it will be soon. So far, it seems to be stuck on just one random Poptropican: Tiny Leaf, born in Thorn Hill, TN.

In my personal opinion, this might be too much personal info… I don’t want someone stalking me! xD I hope Poptropica comes out with a more discreet way of making this work, though, because I think this is really cool!

Counterfeit Island, PHB Specials

Ancient Artworks of the Counterfeit Island Museum

If you’ve been on Counterfeit Island, you’ve probably noticed the Museum Fantastique — the huge, beige-colored building on Main Street with the statues and angel gargoyles. And you would probably recognize The Scream, seeing as it’s the star of the show. But there’s more to this museum than the painting you’re framed for stealing!

In this guided tour, we’ll delve into a bit of art history as we uncover the names of all those unlabeled paintings within those whitish walls…

Inside the main hall of the museum, once you step left past the uniformed guard, you’ll find a lovely garden scene by impressionist Claude Monet, called Bridge over a Pond of Water Lilies. To your right, not far from the first painting, is Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh (expressionism).

If you climb up the stairs with me and walk just a little, you’ll find Edvard Munch’s The Scream (also expressionism) right up top in the center. And stop trying to climb the hanging lamp, that’s dangerous!

Now let’s head back downstairs to the bottom left wing, which houses the museum’s realism paintings. As the name of the style suggests, realism tries to depict scenes accurately. Here the walls are blue and the paintings are (from left to right) Artists Sketching in the White Mountains by Winslow Homer, Bonjour, Monsieur Courbet by Gustave Courbet & The Salmon Fisher by Eilif Peterssen.

Alright, follow me upstairs now, we’re going to see the cubism paintings in the top left wing! Okay, I know these look a little funny, but that’s the point – cubism tries to show a subject from multiple viewpoints, so it looks broken up into geometric shapes and abstracted. Check it out (left to right): Portrait of Picasso by Juan Gris, Cassie Thinking About Cubism by Philip Absolon, & Still Life with Fruit Dish and Mandolin by Juan Gris.

Now run all the way across the hall with me – we’re going to see the impressionism wing in the top right next! With impressionism, it’s all about color and capturing the exact moment through light and atmosphere. From left to right we’ve got Girl with a Hoop by Pierre-Auguste Renoir, The Cliffs at Etretat by Claude Monet, & Impression, Sunrise by Claude Monet – impressive, aren’t they?

Ok, we’re heading down to the bottom right wing now. Don’t forget to say hello to the museum curators along the way! This section is where they display the expressionism paintings, which seek to express emotional intensity. Take a look at Sokea soittoniekka (Blind Musician) by Alvar Cawen, Fighting Forms by Franz Marc, & The Fiddler by Marc Chagall – what do you think they’re trying to express?

Oh, you thought we were done, did you? Well, for those who’ve finished Counterfeit Island, there’s a red button surreptitiously hidden behind the far wall of the expressionism wing (bottom right). If you click on that, the walls will turn a fancy red and the displays in the museum’s wings will change! Unlike with the regular exhibit, clicking on these paintings will actually give you the name, artist, and year, which is great. But… they don’t change the era (style) labels, so that becomes misleading. 😛

Still, let’s take a look! Right here in the bottom right wing we’ve got The Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci (1503), Landscape with an Obelisk by Rembrandt (1650) & A Lady and Gentleman in Black by Rembrandt (1633). Unlike the version in Leo’s workshop on Time Tangled Island, this Mona Lisa isn’t covered by a Poptropican head.

Over in the bottom left wing are three more fancy framed artworks on crimson walls: The Duchess of Devonshire by Thomas Gainsborough, Chez Tortoni by Edouard Manet (1878-1880), & The Storm on the Sea of Galilee by Rembrandt van Rijn (1633).

Jump up to the top left wing and you’ll see two more paintings: Portrait of the Duke of Wellington by Francisco de Goya y Lucientes (1812) & The Concert by Johannes Vermeer (1664). If you run along to the right you’ll see The Scream again in the top center spot.

Finally, in the top right wing, there’s Madonna of the Yarnwinder by Leonardo da Vinci (1501) & T Jefferson by Charles Willson Peale (1791). (and I included The Scream again just to keep up the pattern of 3 circles, heheh…)

Well, that about concludes our tour of Counterfeit Island’s Museum Fantastique! Thanks for sticking around, and I hope you enjoyed it and maybe even learned a thing or two.

Side note: you can go back and click on the images above to enlarge them for a better view. Which painting do you like best?

Poptropican Portraits

Poptropican Portraits Round 7

(¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.-> Hi Gs, <-.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯)

We’ve come a long way — 7 weeks of Portraits — and you guys still hold strong to the offer. It’s amazing that so many kids care so much about my art. 🙂

Poptropican Portraits Logo

I hope everyone is satisfied with their portrait! 😀  If you don’t see yours in there, just tell me in the comments.  I’m only taking up to 10 requests this round.  The request limit may differentiate with rounds, but for those who request past 10, will be disregarded. Remember, these portraits are Gravatar friendly, and make great Gravatars! 😛 Also, for you fellow designers who would like an extra, transparent (no background or text) copy of your portrait(s), just request in the comments. 🙂

If you are a wanting to have your own Poptropican Portrait, I’d be glad to draw it for you if you follow the following criteria;

  • This is how the system works: you leave requests on the post that has the portraits requested last week. I will only take requests that are left on the latest portrait post.
  • Requests must be made by the owner of the account. I really would like if people would stop requesting portraits for their friends; if the friends really want them enough, they can come on here and request them.
  • I must have either a username or a link to the avatar studio included in the request. Otherwise, I will have to use a low quality photo from somewhere on the web, which makes the colors different from the actual character.
  • No requesting two times for the same character unless its a specialty. Sometimes, I will make another one, because I wasn’t pleased with it. Please tell me in the comments how you liked your portrait! If you are not pleased, I am very sorry.
  • Keep in mind that I need you to keep the outfit that you want to be drawn from the time that you request it to the time that it is published. Otherwise, I will draw something you may not have been expecting! So please keep that in mind.
  • I won’t accept glitch accounts anymore that are not your main account. I’ll still accept minor accounts, just not if they’re loaded with glitches. It’s difficult to draw, and most of the time it’s for advertising, which I don’t enjoy drawing…

If you follow these rules, I’d be glad to draw your Poptropican. Thanks! 🙂

PHB Parties

The PHB’s Valentine’s Day Party 2014!

UPDATE: Check out our Valentine’s party recap here!

valentines2014

Hey everyone! I’ve been busy lately, so I’ve not really had time to post. The PHC-ers (people on our Poptropica Help Chat) have been asking for a Valentine’s Day party, and it sounds like a great idea, so we are having one! The date will be Feb. 14, 2014 (Valentine’s Day, obviously), and for US residents, the party will be at 8pm EST, 7pm CST, 6pm MST, and 5pm PST. If you don’t live in the US, use this time converter to find what time the party will be in your time zone. There will be PHB authors in attendance, as well as other PHB readers, and… it’ll be better than third-wheeling!

Bring your candies, heart costumes, and other Valentine’s Day gear! Get ready to battle in Multiverse rooms, chat with Poptropicans, and add some new friends to your list! The party takes place on the PHC (Poptropica Help Chat), and along with chatting on Xat, we’ll be sharing Multiverse codes so we can meet on Poptropica!

To access the chat, click “Chat” in the navigational bar at the top of this blog or go to xat.com/thephc. The chat will be moderated, so it’s a safe environment. Any rule-breaking will result in a kick or ban, so please don’t spoil the fun. If you have any questions, ask me in the comments! It’s going to be tons of fun, so join in the party! 😀
