Steamworks Island

~—~

Continuing Binary Bard’s new friendship with the strange sprocket from the upcoming Steamworks Island, he tried some different approaches…

Getting to know you

The robot and I eyed one another warily. It seemed we were each waiting for the other to make the first move. After a few moments of awkward silence, I attempted to break the ice with a joke.

“Why was six afraid of seven?” I asked.

(Dramatic pause.)

“Because seven eight nine!”

Success! The robot grinned. Clearly he was programmed to understand humor. Maybe he was capable of other emotions, as well.

Perhaps this little robot would be impressed, or even moved, by the arts. I don’t often admit this, but I’ve got something of a background in dance (three years of jazz, six years of modern). Hoping to entrance the robot with my charm and grace, I busted out some acrobatic maneuvers, finishing with a flurry of high-leg kicks.

Not exactly the reaction I was hoping for.

Pride got the better of me. “I’d like to see you do better!” I huffed. “Stupid robot.”

And then, well — the robot did something better.

It’s a nice robot and all, but don’t forget that it has feelings too – and you don’t want to hurt it!

Danger! Will Robinson! Extreme danger! You have forgotten to open the steam vent!

When the machine exploded, the parts fell into Poptropica, creating a ‘Steamworks island’ where metal, machines, and a mysterious adventure awaits you!

The creators are revealing it!!!

It’s the official Steamworks Island trailer!

Steamworks Island is coming very soon!

Hijuyo reporting:

Don’t know who to trust in this island shrouded with mystery? Poptropica Creator Binary Bard wondered the same thing, and investigated (or poked) a strange sprocket.

Steamworks robot: Friend or foe?

All right, so the question is: If you come across a strange robot lying dormant in a wasteland, should you poke it? 9 times out of 10, it’s probably not a good idea. But I poked this one. It unfurled some crazy robot arms.

Then the visor over its face started to slide upward. I braced myself for its evil mechanical visage.

Well, not bad so far…

Look at that! He’s smiling. Maybe we’re going to get along.

A little shy, but definitely friendly. This is one robot you’ll want to get to know as a friend!

A moving helicopter bot!

The mystery of the thing that Binary Bard found on Steamworks Island continues. We found out one thing: it moves!! :O

A Steamworks Island mystery: It moves!

Imagine my surprise when I came across a strange-looking machine on Steamworks Island. The place is full of old gears and pulleys and things, but most of it is rusted out and hasn’t been used for years. This one looked a little different — different enough to pique my curiosity.

I don’t know what you do when you’re in an unfamiliar place and you come across some strange being that’s curled up in a defensive position, but I know what I do: I poke it. So that’s what I did.

Whoa! It moved. And there were a lot more suprises in store.

BINARY BARD

It looks like it is called a “sprocket” based on the picture title. Wonder what it does, and if it helps us. Guess we’ll find out soon enough. This is Shaggy Tornado signing off!  *salutes smartly*

Bonus Items, Store

Emotions=Facial Expression, right?

Express your… expressions… on Poptropica!

For those that can’t hide their feelings

Today we added a new Gold Card item to the store. It’s called Smiley Potion. Use it like the Love Potion. You can choose one of three smiley faces to attach to another Poptropican or even yourself.I decided to put on a disguise and try it out on Spy Island. Yeah, I know. I’m pretty smooth.

Buble #2 = 8P
Bubble #3 = 🙂
I dunno if I would define you as “smooth” MM (or just ‘M’? notice it only says “MIME” after his post, not “MASTER MIME” :O Has Mr Mime lost his magnificent masterness? 😥 )
You probably already know that when you’re in a multiplayer room on Poptropica, you can click the emote buttons on the side of the screen to make your character smile, cry, pout, and jump for joy. Did you know you can also do these elsewhere in the game?

A simple keyboard combination will allow you to use any of the emotes during your adventures, which lets your character react to the story as it happens.

Press Ctrl+Shift+1 to laugh at pompous jerks.

Press Ctrl+Shift+2 to cry when you receive bad news.

Press Ctrl+Shift+3 to blow your stack at a faun who’s giving you guff.

And press Ctrl+Shift+4 to celebrate getting a new item.

That’s not all! You can combine some of these emotes to create brand-new ones that you won’t see in any common room. First, start the angry emote by pressing Ctrl+Shift+3. Once your character’s face is red, but before his head pops off, enter either the happy or the sad emote!
Everyone will think you’ve spent too much time in the sun. Sunscreen, people!
