Top 5 Picks

Grave Robbing by Midnightoilstudios

Kicking things off with Copy Cat, Moreau, Director D., Black Widow, Octavian, and the Booted Bandit! An unlikely group perhaps, but maybe just the team needed for this dangerous sort of job… or perhaps just the team to spell future betrayal. The setting in unmistakably Egyptian, perfect for our theme, and the lighting is wonderfully dramatic. I really appreciate the attention not only put towards the characters, but the environment as well. I feel like everyone could fall into a trap at any moment! I’d love to see where this story goes. The Lost Pyramid of Wawa-‘aww (Woo-oo!) : Duck Tails 2017 Tribute by Barefoot Knuckle

Ooooh! Or, should I say, woo-oo! Any DuckTales fans in the comment section? If you aren’t familiar with the show, its series finale recently aired, so this submission is the perfect tribute. Though Poptropicans may look a little bug-eyed at first from the perspective of the McDucks, I think both groups of adventurers would get along just fine. And just think of the adventures that would be had! This cartoon is no stranger to visiting Ancient Egypt, and I think that Annie Perkins from the Cryptid Island novel is a perfect match. Next to Annie is “Samir Badawi,” the main character of Barefoot Knuckle’s own Arabian Nights fan-novel. You can really tell how much thought and love was put into this idea! Excellent work. Pop Creators in Egypt by Smart Icicle

One thing I like about this submission is its representation of different Ancient Egyptian occupations. And it turns out that they correspond pretty well with three of our favorite Poptropica villains! Dr. Hare being a carrot farmer makes perfect sense, along with Captain Crawfish as a solider and Black Widow as our artistic scribe. Hmmm… I wonder what Binary Bard’s role would be? Anyway, this is a pretty neat submission! Find the artist on DeviantArt.

Egyptian Villains by AdventurersNHunters

In this submission, we have a classic display of Poptropica’s four biggest villains. But with an Egyptian twist, of course! I love that this design isn’t just about dressing these Poptropicans up in Egyptian clothes, but instead has a little more story to it. AdventurersNHunters says that “Dr. Hare, Binary Bard, Black Widow, and Captain Crawfish impersonate Egyptian royalty and grab the diamonds!” That simple description makes it all make sense, just like that. Quite the clever composition! Find the artist on DeviantArt.

Egypt by Dangerous Dragon

Alright, I think we all knew that we couldn’t get through our Ancient Egypt theme without showcasing the Pyramids, right? Out of mummies, tombs, pharaohs, and hieroglyphs, pyramids is definitely the next association on the list. Though this composition is fairly simple, it matches our theme well and utilizes a great color scheme. The yellow orange of the sandstone and the blazing red of the sun give off lots of visual heat, and it’s interesting to see those colors continue in the Poptropican in the foreground. I also like how the rough texture of the pyramid is balanced by the soft texture of the sky/background. Neat work! Find the artist in the comments section.

Aaaaand, as a mummy would now say, that’s a wrap! You guys had fantastic submissions as always, so I’m excited to see what you’ll to next!

April: How Do I Participate?

Community Creations is a cool series for anyone in the Poptropica community to join in on. To sum up what it’s about, it’s basically a chance to show off your artwork, creepy fan-fics, Pop clubhouses, costumes, and anything else that pops into your mind.

If we really like the piece you submit, we will feature it here on the PHB! As long as it relates to that month’s theme. So what is April’s theme? April’s theme is…

Bugs!

Last month, we celebrated the upcoming Secret of the Jade Scarab Island with our Ancient Egypt theme. Why not continue the trend? Let’s take the “scarab” part of the Dream Island contest winner a bit literally, with the theme of bugs! Though creepy crawlies can be a bit, well, creepy, they don’t necessarily have to be! However you decide to incorporate them is up to you.

Obviously Poptropica’s Nightcrawlers Tribe has already taken our theme to heart, but they’re not the only ones getting the spotlight. Aside from the aforementioned Jade Scarab, there are actually plenty of bugs in Poptropica! Er, well, there are also plenty of bugs in Mocktropica too, now that I think about it! Dr. Hare’s nightmare about ants comes to mind, for one. And yes, we are counting things like spiders because we’re dealing with bugs, not necessarily insects! That makes Black Widow fair game. If only we got to encounter Moth Man on Cryptids Island, huh? Anyway, I’ll stop bugging you so you can get to creating!

  • Comment below with a link to whatever you’ve created, email it to the PHB team on our Contact page, OR share it with me (SydVC aka Spotted Dragon) on DeviantArtTwitter, or Discord.
  • Results: I will feature 5 of the submissions as well as some honorable mentions.
  • Limitations: Nothing NSFW, and make sure you relate to the theme.
  • Due Date: I will take any entries before the end of this month. Submit as many things as you’d like!

I will be sure to let you know I have seen your creation. While quality counts, I’m mainly looking for something to simply catch my eye, so don’t be afraid to join in!

So what are you waiting for? Go make something awesome!

Community Creations: February 2021

Hello once again everyone! Spotted Dragon here bringing you the February recap for Community Creations! February’s theme was Pretty in Pink (and the featured work is not in any particular order). Be sure to check out all the featured artists!

Top 5 Picks

Pink Baron by Emuuuuuuu

Right away, I think you guys know that I’m a sucker for word play. And because of that, I really love the concept behind this submission! Not only is it a clever play on Red Baron’s name, but experimenting with a character’s color scheme is always fun too. And, of course, it never hurts to throw in that Dr. Hare reference. Remind me never to do laundry with him! Find the artist often in the comments.

Sir Alice the Heart Knight by Barefoot Knuckle

Oooh, pretty! Dare I say… pretty in pink! I love the incorporation of the Heart Astro Knight costume in this design, and it was a great choice to have the knight’s makeup and hair continue that same color scheme. And I think that the sun set-ish background similarly matches well! Plus, it’s great to see a reference to the Poptropica novels, as those characters aren’t in the spotlight as often. You can definitely see Alice’s fierce personality shine through. Find the artist often in the comments.

Completely in the Pink by Silver Horse

Ah, next up is a costume submission! I love that not only does this include a perfectly pink Poptropican outfit, but there’s a purr-fectly pink pet outfit to match! That extra step in making a matching pair really goes a long way. And to continue that match, it’s noteworthy that the Poptropican has some animalistic features themselves to truly sell the duo. I love that both outfits feature ears, a horn, nose/whiskers, and even a tail! I love, love love it (and I’m not just saying that because of the heart motif)! Find the artist often in the comments and on Discord.

Neon Pink by BlazingAngel123

Did you think that you could get through this month’s theme without seeing at least one Dr. Hare feature? Of course not! But even so, this is certainly a unique take on the doctor we all know and hate love. Playing off of Nintendo’s upcoming Neon White game, it’s as if our favorite furry scientist was plucked right out of the world of Poptropica and placed directly into this new virtual universe. Plus, I’ll say it again… I am a true sucker for good word play. Anyway, I love the sickly bright shades of white and pink, and the new outfit design is just excellent. Find the artist’s DeviantArt here.

Flower Elf Queen by AdventurersNHunters

And here we have our last, but certainly not least, perfectly pretty submission! Taking a Poptropican who is known for their color scheme and totally changing it presents quite the challenge, but it was pulled off wonderfully in this design. Though we typically recognize the Elf Queen in her gorgeous green getup, I’d say that pink suits her just as well! I would love to see her in this flowery attire come spring time. The Twisted Thicket forest in full bloom must be breathtaking! Find the artist’s DeviantArt here.

All these pink submissions were super pretty, guys! Wonderful job!

Ancient Egypt!

With the final Dream Island Contest winner recently being announced, what better time would it be feature Ancient Egypt as our theme? Secret of the Jade Scarab Island embraces the aesthetics and history of Ancient Egypt, and so I think that we should do the same in celebration. Though we have briefly visited Egypt before in Poptropica, this island will certainly present a whole new adventure!

You could take inspiration from Nabooti Island, the store’s Pharaoh or Mummy costumes, perhaps the Poptropica novels, or even the Secret of the Jade Scarab’s inside look itself, of course! Maybe, if we’re lucky, some of YOUR creations will even inspire the Poptropica Creators in the making of this new island! So, put on those ancient creativity caps and get to creating!

Top 5 Picks

Amenthes and Keres by WitchyArtistGal (formerly TechnoBunny16)

WitchyArtistGal - Amenthes and Keres

In Poptropica, we’ve traveled to many different time periods, but no one island has been centered completely around Egyptian mythology (though we do see Egypt in Nabooti Island). Still, Poptropica loves its mythology and this drawing not only features an Egyptian character, but a Greek one as well! I especially like the incorporation of animal legs and tail, which aren’t too common in the game. Though the photo quality is a bit rough, you can still tell that the colors and outfits are spot on, working well together. Find her DeviantArt here.

Medusa by SuperFlameKitty

SuperFlameKitty - Medusa

Unsurprisingly, another mythology piece! Though, this one is a bit darker. Not only does it give us a glimpse into Medusa’s backstory, but it also brings up a theory of why Poptropicans don’t have necks. The artist explains,

The myth is that when Medusa was hunted down by a warrior, he only managed to cut off her neck. Right before she was about to die, through sheer determination, her head started floating and she survived the beheading. Athena, impressed, declared that surviving without a neck was a sign of strength. And bada bing bada boom. Poptropicans now don’t have necks.

Grim, but a super cool theory! The perspective/composition in the drawing is captivating, and the juxtaposition between the darkness enveloping Medusa and the light from the doorway creates great atmosphere. Emotional, detailed, and amazing! Find their DeviantArt here.

Mystery Train Island by Red Tomato

Red Tomato - Mystery Train Island

Mystery Train Island is definitely a classic adventure, bringing to life the late 1800s. This drawing is super cute, showing all characters aboard the train. Even some items and clues were included. Plus, I think the numerous ‘???” capture the plot perfectly, haha! At every turn, the hero is filled with questions of “whodunit?” The colors are bright and there is something in every corner of the page, adding to the chaotic memories of playing the island and running around the train! Cute, good job! Find Red Tomato often in the comments section.

1920s AU by BlazingAngel

BlazingAngel123 - 1920s AU

What a throwback! This piece was made a while ago, when a Poptropica Decades AU drawing trend was going around in our DeviantArt community. Not only does the black and white color scheme capture this time period, but the fashion and overall style does too. A great challenge! I love the motion and the comical expressions. Find her DeviantArt here.

Frida Kahlo (but she’s a Poptropican) by ArtisticAsianBunny

ArtisticAsianBunny - Frida Kahlo but she's a Poptropican

Throughout Poptropica’s many islands, numerous historical figures can be met along the way. Including artists! However, Frida Kahlo is not one of them. This is a great Poptropica representation of her in my opinion. If you don’t know, she was a greatly influential Mexican artist. Perfect for our historical theme, and perfect for art! The Poptropican’s design, along with the background show off her style well. Super cute too! Find her DeviantArt here.

Honorable Mentions

It was very interesting to see everyone’s spin on historical figures and time periods! Especially when incorporated into the world of Poptropica. Super cool submissions, as always! Keep it up! 🙂

April: How do I Participate?

Community Creations is a cool series for anyone in the Poptropica community to join in on. To sum up what it’s about, it’s basically a chance to show off your artwork, creepy fan-fic, realms, costumes, and anything else that pops into your mind.

If we really like the piece you submit, we will feature it here on the PHB! As long as it relates to that month’s theme. So what is April’s theme? April’s theme is…

Humor!

If April showers bring May flowers, what do May flowers bring? …Pilgrims of course! No? Anyone? C’mon, it’s pretty funny. Anyway, spring is finally here (even though it feels like winter 2.0 for some people) and that typically means pastels and rainbows, despite the numerous rain showers. With some traditional April holidays comes pranks, jokes, and everything goofs. So why not have fun with it?

No matter what you submit, it’s gotta be funny. Not everyone may find it delightful, but I’m a sucker for a good pun, so you’ll probably end up tickling my funny bone no matter what. Maybe create a Poptropica centered comic, with all your favorite characters! Or perhaps make a costume with the most random accessories you can find? Even write a Poptropica themed joke book, with puns galore! The options to make people laugh are endless. (gif below from Pixel)

PHB Sneak Peeks, PHB Specials

PHB Sneak Peaks: The Dead King

March 22nd, 2009 #9

[-!CLASSIFIED!-]

-Poptropica Help Blog Sneak Peaks-

Welcome to another wonderful week of ‘Poptropica Help Blog Sneak Peaks’. These posts are posted every week on Sundays. In every new post there will be stories that only we have. And only we post them. These stories are classified and are very secret.
This week’s story is ”The Dead King”, It is about the mysterious Pharaoh coming to life.

-The Dead King-
A Mummy!…I mean, A DADDY!

Out jumped Codien with a flashlight in hand, scouting the area for any signs. Codien had been searching for lost treasures. So far he had found none. He slowly shuffled down the cold dark floors. Raising his hand, shaking, his flashlight illuminated a dead end with a golden plaque. It read “DO NOT AWAKEN THE PHARAOH”. Well that’s strange. Codien couldn’t see any pharaohs around, how could he possibly wake one up. He chuckled, then stopped – he heard a noise. Breathing deeply Codien took the courage to turn around slowly. His flashlight lit up the passage he had just walked through but nothing was there. With a sigh of relief he took a step back. CRACK! He stepped on a old bone. Codien stopped. He could hear deep raspy breathing. Sweat beads building on his forehead he once again turned to face the golden plaque. Expecting there to be the giant, evil, smelly old Pharaoh breathing down on him. He took a deep breath, ready to scream. No one was there.

Codien let out a puff of air. He was shaking all over. He lent, half collapsing out of breath against the golden plaque. He really didn’t want to see an old wrapped up Pharaoh. Codien shot up. He heard a faint click coming from behind the wall. Before Codien could inspect what had happened the wall rotated with a whoosh pushing Codien to the other side with it.

mummypreview

On the ground sat Codien with his knees to his chest and his head in his hands. He didn’t want to look up. He knew what was just ahead of him. Sitting on a throne or slowly coming out of a sarcophagus, moanning with his arms outstretched all wrapped up in cloth. He looked up slowly preparing for the worse. He took in a deep breath and – “ARGH!” There in the corner of the room stood a Pharaoh. All glorified with gold and jewelery with his hands above his head wearing a creapy face about to tear Codien to shreds.

Codien took in another breath preparing to scream again. When a noise amplified from somewhere echoed through the room. “Hello. Welcome to the Pharaoh exhibit. Here we have a replica Pharaoh as he would of dressed back then. Beside him is his sarcophagus and of course inside is the Pharaoh himself. Please enjoy the exhibit and PLEASE DON”T TOUCH ANYTHING!”

Raising his head slowly he realised the Pharaoh was just a model. Laughing Codien strolled over to the Pharaoh and examined his outfit. It was amazing. Such detail and colour. He then looked at the sarcophagus. “Wow! I wonder if it gets a little stuffy?” Codien chuckled turning to the Pharaoh with a smile.

“Actually it does.” murmured the Pharaoh.

Mummys! Arn’t they just a treat? Well i can tell Codiens not a fan of them as you can tell from his encounter. So Pharaoh should be coming out in Astro-Knights we think. But how on earth does that make sense. Well this is a comment by Rachel that might be able to show how.

Do you think this is for Astro Knight, or is this for something else? I do agree, it looks a LOT like time-tangled island…
I wonder if the “French island” isn’t actually French at all. That picture with the statues looks like its from Rome, and of course in the French Picture you can see the flag (and crepes). Maybe this one is from Japan (or china, if they did it wrong) and the island has something to do with worlds!

Worlds! Maybe Astro-Knights will be about travelling to different worlds. It would make sense, we have a spaceship and we are going to different planets to track down the King and Queen. Or maybe these Sneak Peaks are for a totally new island that we don’t know about yet. Only time can tell.

You can check out Poptropica Help Blogs other sneaks peaks here:

So that’s my Sneak Peaks this week. Next week might be the last PHB Sneak Peak because PHB is working on something different but similar that will come out every 2 weeks and will involve YOU.

See you next week. Hopefully.
