Top 5 Picks

Marooned by happyclonetrooper

happyclonetrooper - Marooned

Haha, get it? The Poptropican’s name is Maroon Ring and she’s lost (marooned)… Anyone? No? Well I thought the title was clever and to top it off, her outfit was an old costume contest entry! The drawing was inspired by another artist’s Drawcember prompt set, specifically a snow/ice setup. The lighting is wonderful and everything gives off a strong winter vibe. Super soft and cool! Find her DeviantArt here.

Santa Claus by Tough Sky

Tough Sky - Santa Clause

This festive costume is dazzling! It’s a perfect image of good ol’ St. Nick and the lights entangling him simply add to his holiday spirit. And I’m curious about that scar… Sledding accident perhaps? Whatever the cause may be, this outfit for sure represents this snowy season. Super cool! Frequently find Tough Sky in the comment section.

Blue Ice by Sporty Boa

Sporty Boa - Blue Ice

Introducing… Blue Ice! A wicked new winter villain! Born on Astro-Knight’s bone-chilling Ice Planet, her backstory is one of cold hearts and harsh motives. Read more about her and other villains here! Not only is this a stylish design, but the attention to origin story definitely gives this drawing some bonus points. Cool concept! (Am I allowed to use the same pun twice? Whoops!) Find SB’s blog here.

Happy Holidays by CrazyPaintBursh

CrazyPaintbrush - Happy Holidays

Super cute! I love the attention to each villain’s winter outfit. Everyone shows a unique emotion and the colors are bright and cheerful. Each outfit fits the villain’s personality perfectly and are all great for the cold season. Gives me positive, family-fun feelings. Amazing holiday card! Find her DeviantArt here.

The Gift of the Poptropican by SuperGrape1

Once upon a time, in a world known as Poptropica, it was the night before Christmas, and all of the Poptropicans in Poptropica were celebrating with holiday cheer. However, meanwhile on Home Island, a Poptropican named Super Grape is seen sitting on a couch inside her house, and she seems to be stressing out about something, and all throughout the house, not a creature is stirring not even a mouse. Suddenly, a fireplace is seen nearby the couch that Super Grape is sitting on, and all of the stockings are hung by the chimney with care. Anyway, the reason that Super Grape was stressing out was that it was Christmas Eve, and the next day it would be Christmas morning, and she had forgotten to get a Christmas present for her boyfriend Incredible Wing. What am I going to do, I have to buy Incredible Wing a Christmas gift at the last minute and all of the stores are going to be closed for Christmas, Super Grape thought as she starts to panic… READ MORE

A classic Christmas tale! A well known holiday plot line is one in which two people give up things they deeply care about in order to buy a loved one a present. Spoiler though! Both gifts closely relate to each object the person gave up and so are both ultimately pointless. Super Grape’s story has lots of similarities to this plot, so it may seem nostalgic to many readers. Buying gifts is a struggle almost everyone can relate to and it’s portrayed well throughout this narrative. Find her DeviantArt here.

TOP 5 PICKS

Happy Lobster, Happy Cuddles by Napstachill

Napstachill - Happy Lobster, Happy Cuddles

So soft!!! Cute animals automatically equal heartwarming in my book. The curved lines and light coloring totally add up to a cuddly scene. Such cute chubs! The internet cannot resist cats of course, and the PHB’s very own Happy Lobster looks like he’s having a blast. Great, subtle movement and emotion! I can practically hear that kitty purring. Find their DeviantArt here.

Reunion by Tareloin

Tareloin - Reunion

Again, very soft! The smooth, blended coloring makes everything look super welcoming and the tones leave a nostalgic impression. This piece is like looking straight into a memory or a picture out of a scrapbook. Ah, the good ol’ days… Our dear Mordred looks genuinely happy in this scene, which brings joy to my lil’ fan-girl heart. So bright and pleasing! Find their DeviantArt here.

Reflections of the Past and Present by ANNE14TCO

ANNE14TCO - Reflections of the Past and Present

What cool effects! The deep, intense lighting is super dramatic and the warm tones in the upper half of this piece give off fuzzy, heartwarming feelings. Meanwhile, the bottom half of this piece shows great contrast with cooler, duller tones. This separations perfectly shows change over time and how our past may haunt us, but how the future will always be bright! Plus, the water effect is amazing. Find her DeviantArt here and go here to read a more in-depth description of this drawing.

One Year of our Relationship by Neemon99

Neemon99 - 1 Year Anniversary

How sweet! These two lovebirds, Little Foot and Sporty Fox, look so cute in this drawing. The big-pixel background gives the piece a cool digital vibe and their facial expressions make me fall in love with them myself! The bright colors really pop and everything about this is all around positive. Definitely fits our theme! Find their DeviantArt here.

The Raptors by BeanSkelly

BeanSkelly - The Raptors

Simple, but sweet. The emotion is obvious here and the viewer can easily tell that this group has been reunited for the better. Big grins and tears of joy perfectly add up to heartwarming! The bright background doesn’t take away from the subject, but definitely matches the tone well. There isn’t a whole lot of detail, but I feel like that simply alludes to how their family is the only thing they’re focusing on. The rest of the world can wait! Totally warms my heart. Find their DeviantArt here.

All of the entries were so cute! You guys really pulled on my heartstrings this month. Keep up the amazing work! It’s nice to see such positivity in this round.

Top 5 Picks

Highschool Dr. Hare by Echoingback

Echoingback - Highschool Dr. Hare

This rendition of Dr. Hare as a highschooler is super cute. The sketchy but clean lines make our beloved rabbit look really soft and the expression on his face is positively up to no good! Overall, this is an adorable, simple bust drawing that’s easily pleasing to the eye. Love the hoodie! Find their DeviantArt here.

My Life at School by Dreamer2127 aka Cinnabunny

Dreamer2127 aka Cinnabunny - My Life at School

This cute little comic is something we can all relate to. If you can’t read it, the left panel has our expectations for school, in which the student does their work in class. On the right however is our reality, where the student gets caught playing Poptropica instead! The characters are cute and the humor is perfectly shown. It’s a bit hard to see, especially with sketchy lines, but the dialogue is the main focus and overall this is well executed! Sweet drawing! Find her DeviantArt here.

Even Chickens Need to Learn by ArtisticAsianBunny

ArtisticAsianBunny - Even Chickens Need to Learn

What have we here you ask? Shrunken Mr. Silva is teaching some basic English to Ringmaster Raven while CJ and Edgar watch of course! This drawing is pretty random, but it’s not without its humor. While the situation would never be canon, the simple drawing is still very well executed and I admit, it made me laugh. Education is important kiddos! The image is kinda small, but let’s not forget those sweet easter eggs on the bookshelf… Find her DeviantArt here.

Mr. Silva: Poptropica Worlds Style by SuperGrape1

SuperGrape1 - Mr. Silva Poptropica Worlds Style

This piece not only ties in school, but both original Poptropica and Poptropica Worlds as well! Who knew Poptropicans would look so cute with hands? You might love him or you might hate him, but we all easily recognize Mr. Silva. Body proportions aren’t the best, but the head is super accurate and the simple execution makes for a very clear subject. I love to see artists improving every day! Find her DeviantArt here.

Help Style by Criaha

Criaha - Help

This sketch may not have a lot of detail, but it sure is relatable. With a lot of Poptropicans in high school by now, it can feel like our school work is constantly looming over us. Honestly, it can feel that way in any grade, I know. Almost like the looming glare of infamous Poptropica villains, right? The emotion and simplicity in this sketch is hilarious. Find her DeviantArt here.

Okay, so I have to confess… Why? Welllllll, those are the only submissions we got this month. That means no honorable mentions, sadly. Still, those drawings totally deserve the spotlight! There weren’t that many, but they were still super cool.

School might not me the most exciting theme, but there’s always next month. Leave suggestions for better themes in the comments below! I know with school starting, it can be a lot harder for people to find time to make submissions.

October: How do I Participate?

Community Creations is a cool series for anyone in the Poptropica community to join in on. To sum up what it’s about, it’s basically a chance to show off your artwork, creepy fan-fic, realms, costumes, and anything else that pops into your mind.

If we really like the piece you submit, we will feature it here on the PHB! As long as it relates to that month’s theme. So what is October’s theme? October’s theme is…

HALLOWEEN!

I mean, were you really surprised? How could we not pick Halloween as the theme! It’s the spoopiest time of the year! I’m a total sucker for autumn aesthetics. Sadly, there is one catch this month: we will not be accepting any costumes! I know, I know, it’s the main part of the holiday! Don’t worry! We just don’t wanna take the spotlight off of the PHB’s annual Halloween Costume Contest. Check it out, because over on that post is where you really get the chance to show off your spooky style.

Sooo… got any ideas yet? Not allowing costumes does limit your creativity a bit, but it doesn’t totally cut off your options! You could create a cool pic in the Photo Booth of your Poptropican trick-or-treating, all dressed up, or you could draw one of your favorite scenes from the Haunted House mini-quest! You could create a scary Poptropica ghost story or even make an entire haunted house yourself in Realms! And remember to submit any costumes you make specifically into the Costume Contest.

Community Creations: February 2017

community-creations-logo

Why hello everyone! So, how is everyone liking the new series? As of right now, I think it’s been going pretty well. There are so many amazingly talented artists in our li’l fandom. ❤

Anyway, getting right to it, here is the February recapThis month’s theme was shipping. The featured work is not in any particular order. 😉

Top 5 Picks

The Stars, They Remind Me of You by Criaha

criaha-the-stars-they-remind-me-of-you

A very beautiful piece. Not only does it represent the LGBT community with an adorable ship between Black Widow and Criaha’s own Fearless Popper (a ship I’ve fallen in love with), but the creative starry night theme was brilliantly executed. Find her DeviantArt here.

Why Dr. Hare Shouldn’t be Cupid by ArtisticAsianBunny

artistic-asian-bunny-why-dr-hare-shouldnt-be-cupid

Just… adorable. It highlights Valentine’s Day with some much needed humor and the overall style is wonderful. This ship is super cute and I could totally see this scene happening. Find her DeviantArt here.

SD and a Narwhal (Not the official name) by Yumi-Chan-Chu

yumi-chan-chu-narwhal-sd

I may be a little biased on this one, but this is freaking adorable. I recognize that not everyone in the community is into full on shipping, so I admire this piece for showing love but not romance. The drawing and colors are great and hey I mean the Poptropican she chose is pretty cool. Find her DeviantArt here.

Movie Night by Honeybox360

honeybox-movie-night

Now this is a ship you don’t see everyday. Based on a unique Poptropica AU (which ships Speeding Spike x Ned Noodlehead), this really brings out the softer side of some of our favorite characters. The lighting is great and the piece just makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. Find her DeviantArt here.

First Date by BlazingAngel123

blazing-angel-first-date

Ah, the Bashful Sword x Sir Rebral ship has always been another favorite of mine. I feel like this piece perfectly sums up the emotions of what a lot of people go through on a first date. Shipping isn’t always easy, right? The dialogue and expressions are great. Find her DeviantArt here.

Honorable Mentions

And that’s it! Honestly, all of the entries were incredible, narrowing it down was tough. I can’t wait to see more of the creative talent to come! 😉

March: How do I Participate?

Community Creations is a cool series for anyone in the Poptropica community to join in on. To sum up what it’s about, it’s basically a chance to show off your artwork, creepy fan-fic, realms, costumes, and anything else that pops into your mind.

If we really like the piece you submit, we will feature it here on the PHB! As long as it relates to that month’s theme. So what is March’s theme? March’s theme is…

NATURE!

For many of us in the northern hemisphere, spring is here, and it’s prime time to celebrate the beauty that comes with it. For ideas, a lot of Poptropica’s scenes and background art are breath-taking. I think this could not only be an inspiration for cool drawings, but also literature, realms, photo booth pics, and more.

So what are you waiting for? Go make something! 😀

Back Lot Island, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Island, Game Show Island, Ghost Story Island, Legendary Swords, Mocktropica Island, Monster Carnival Island, PHB Sneak Peeks, PHB Specials, Poptropica Portfolio, PoptropiCon Island, Survival Island, Twisted Thicket Island, Virus Hunter Island

Poptropica Portfolio: Chris Goodwin

Nate Greenwall isn’t the only one posting his Poptropica illustrations – I recently stumbled upon the site of Chris Goodwin, an illustrator/designer working for Poptropica, whose online portfolio can be found here. This post comes in three parts. As always, click to enlarge the pics!

Perhaps the most interesting section is character design: designs for E. Vile’s robots from Legendary Swords (as well as some props seen in P-Con: Ep. 2), a huge collection of characters (including several unreleased ones – some possibly for Ep. 3 of PoptropiCon!), unused flying ace designs (the corner suggests they were for the Virus Hunter minigame, Nano-Combat Training), ideas for Max McGullicutty’s look in Survival: Ep. 5, and finally, rough drafts of robots for Game Show Island.

The next section is concept art – ideas for various parts of the game. Here we see color plans for areas inside Joe’s body on Virus Hunter Island, shape ideas for “air creatures” in his lungs, a look at an extravagant (though unused) virus bug, several sketches of dark scenes, racer cars we’ve seen before as a scrapped idea, a Legendary Swords doodle, the Monster Carnival common room, and a sketch from Charlie & the Chocolate Factory Island.

Lastly, there’s a section devoted to scene illustrations – most of these are already in the game, though the one of the cabin is not (but it seems to belong to the unnamed geological park island).

The rest are: the tutorial island in the Poptropica app, Ephraim University (both exterior and interior) from Mocktropica, Soundstage #1 on Back Lot, the Hemlock Herald newspaper room on Ghost Story, a hallway door and post office common room on Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, and the bonus quest on Twisted Thicket. Seeing them each as one big scene makes it all the more awesome. ❤

Poptropica sure is beautiful, and Chris has made some really creative contributions to the game we know and love. Enjoy the Chris Goodwin collection, and stay popping, Poptropicans! 😀
