Tips & Tricks

Need some Poptropica fashion advice? Here are a few pointers to keep in mind:

  1. ๐Ÿ‘– Mix and match different costume parts together! That’s the beauty of it โ€” you get to be original. The store is your go-to spot for the latest costumes, but you can also find lots of options with the Costumizer tool on PoptropiCon Island. Be careful not to mismatch, though: those goofy glasses probably aren’t going to go well with that fancy dress.
  2. ๐Ÿ‘” Have a color scheme. Put colors that look good together, but don’t overdo it – you don’t need to have all the colors of the rainbow on you, or the colors may clash. One or two shades, possibly mixed in with some neutral colors (white, black, browns, grays), can pull off a pretty neat outfit.
  3. ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿผโ€๐ŸŽค Skin: Regular human skin tones are your safest bet, unless you’re going for a bizarre Halloween costume or something. You can change your skin tone (and more) with Modify A Poptropican (MAP), a glitching tool.
  4. ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ Hair: You probably don’t want yucky shades like greenish-brown, but whatever you pick, be sure it matches your outfit. Natural colors work best, but sometimes blue or purple hair can do the trick as well. To change hair color, visit 24 Carrot’s “Carrot King Diner” and mix a drink until you get the desired color. When you drink it, your hair color will change!
  5. ๐Ÿงข Accessorize. There are tons of accessories available within costumes. Don’t be afraid to try something on โ€” if it doesn’t work out, you can just close the Costumizer window without saving. Add that belt, sword on the side, or those side bangs to complete the outfit you’re working on. Look around and you might just find something that matches. Be inspired by the above costumes, the ideas contained in the comments below, and what your friends are wearing โ€” but make a look that’s uniquely yours, too.

Glitching for Good Looks

There’s a trick out there known as the ASG (Avatar Studio Glitch) that people use to obtain rare, un-Costumizable costumes. With the PHB’s Avatar Studio Gift, you’ll find lots of them, and we’re always adding more. Check it out!

๐Ÿ‘พ For more backdoor methods, see the PHB’s Glitching Guide.

Share your costume

All are welcome to share costumes with us in the comments below! If you can, tell us how you pieced it together and post a link so we can see it. Here’s how:

  1. ๐Ÿ‘• For the best image resolution, use the Costumizer window on PoptropiCon Island. Ideally, crop the image to show just your character.
  2. ๐Ÿ“ธ Take a screenshot and save it to your computer. Hereโ€™s how to take a screenshot โ€” the instructions will vary depending on your device. For Windows, youโ€™ll also need to paste it somewhere to save it as an image file on your computer.
  3. ๐Ÿ”— Upload the image to the web and share the link in the comments of this post. You can use a site like imgur (or our Discord server, if you’re 13+) to upload your picture and obtain a web link for it that can then be shared so others can see it.

  1. Hello, I’m Rough Skull. I was wondering…. Is there a way to Have/ keep your eyes closed all the time? then change it back if you dont want it anymore? I was just curious. If not, then that would be a great idea. Instead of wide eyes open, or half- closed eyes, there should be and option where It’s closed all the time

To see the full costume, friend Ginny1737. (Note: everything is customizable except for the necklace.)

  3. Here’s my idea for a ghost rider costume.Step 1:Go to the haunted house mini quest and customize the skull from the skeleton.Step 2:Buy the biker outfit from the store.customize the shirt, jacket, belt, and pants.Step 3:buy the torch from the store and activate it.

Sorry about the green glow. I had atom power on, and I couldn’t turn it off.
Please add this. I’m acually going as Ada Lovelace for Halloween this year!

    1. Very nice! Also, you can remove the atom power by going to your Store items and clicking “Turn off special effects” at the bottom. This works for any special effects from the Poptropica Store that you have on.

  9. How did they get posieden’s beard? and his shirt? AND how did they get his eyes to stay shut like that! IM DESPERATE!

    1. You go to avatar studio and type fsdummy for the user. Then log into poptropica (another tab). Refresh A.S. then refresh Pop. and take off the star and you’ll have closed eyes.

    1. If you didn’t see this already for this page, I have made a trash person. (With new instuctions)

Here is how you make him/her:

1.Get pizza from Poptropicon Island Episode 1 or 2.
      2. Get pencil from Bottle Cap Costume (Shrink Ray Island Member’s Only Card)

  10. hello, this is friendly moon from poptropica. so ive taken notice that even though there are animal costumes like: rooster, cat, dog, dragon, shark, wolf, mouse, rabbit (dr. hare), ox, goat, bat, and lion. BUT! its strange that there arent any animal costumes like: pig, cow, fox, chicken, eagle, horse, giraffe, chipmunk, horse, etc. Even if there were costumes like these, id like to actually cosplay either a cow or a fox. I had this idea from “kemonomimi”, people with animal ears and tail. what do you think? and do you think there should be an option to keep both ears and your hair instead of one or the other?

  11. How can we get our credits back which we have used on our costumes

Slanted Fish: You can’t. There are no refunds once you’ve bought a Store item.

    1. It should work, but that’s just one step. The screenshot you took needs to be pasted onto an image editing program, for example, Microsoft Paint. (Ctrl + V to paste) Save it to your computer so you can access it again later.

    1. You can a link, either by going to the Avatar Studio and typing the username to generate one, or posting an image to an image hosting website so it will have a web link (instructions on this page). Then people can click on the link in your comment to see the costume. ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. One of my friends has a costume that makes you look like an elf princess (a female Legolas, for all of you Lord of the Rings fans). Friend Martha9994 to get the costume. It’s all costumizable except for the elf ears, which are free at the Poptropica store, and the little cape thinghy from the Robin Hood costume, which cost 75 credits. ๐Ÿ™‚ My fave costume!

    1. If someone in your friends list has saved it to their costume closet you can costumize it from there (I’m pretty sure this is the only way to get the wand; it worked for me). The actual Tinkerbell costume is pretty common.

  13. hi im nick im very very confussed i have seen people with captain craw fish hat and i seen people with my favorite hat ever the sombrero el musthacio wears who ever tells me how to get these hats and it works i will give you one of my accouts i have one with 15 medals and alot of outfits please please tell me i need to know i been looking everywere

  14. does anyone have the ORIGINAL rockstar girl? if you do give me your username i need purple sunglasses for my costume. thanks if you have it. i dress as indie rock band members so if you want those costumes my username is ceezee2

    1. Sure. BTW I have been making tons of these accounts in case Poptropica patches this. This costume is completely free to make, so I’ve been hoarding them in case they become valuable.

      1. This works best by creating a new account.

      2. Open up an new tab and go to http://www.poptropica.com/avatarstudio/

      3.Type in the username fsdummy.

      4. When it finishes loading, go back to your poptropica tab, and click on the very margin of either side of the blue. Now refresh the page.
      Windows: Ctrl + R or Ctrl F5

      Apple: Apple + R

      5. You should now have this outfit on :
      http://www.poptropica.com/avatarstudio/avatar.html?a=bbzZVR3JYWm5Oa2RXMXRlUT09

(It may take a few tries!)

      6. Now go to spy island, go inside the spy headquarters. Costumize the Top Secret Secretary’s suit, and remove your star and skateboard.

      7. Now do either of the following:

      A. Friend me: slenderman483, or slman483, and costumize my baldness.

      B. Beat the Haunted House and costumize the skeleton (What I had to do the first time.)

Done! Like I said, this will probably be patched, so do it now!

      1. UPDATE: Whoever run the fsdummy account got it back up again. This still works!!!!!!

  15. hey creator of the page can i borrow some costumes to put on my page in dinkypage and don’t worry i will give credit to you

Slanted Fish: If you do, please cite the Poptropica Help Blog clearly at the top with a hyperlink to this page. Thanks.

  16. Well, this might be related, but I have one account that won’t customize. Every time I try, it says ‘LOADING’, won’t let me exit, and I have to reload the page. Please help!!!

    1. Okay, I know one way to fix this. Well, if you have the “Boo” dress from the Monsters Inc. ad, it has a glitch that does this. Anyway, how to fix this (it usually works for any outfit), go to Spy Island and put the Chameleon suit on or anything else that you can put on without going to the Customizer. Then you should be able to customize without reloading. I hoped this helped!

  17. Does anyone know where I can get a tiara? I’m working on a Thalia Grace costume (Thalia from Percy Jackson).

    1. 1: Get dark skin and hair from the Colorizer
2: Put on the blue Karate Master costume
3: Find a hairstyle you like in Red Dragon island.
      Presto! Perfect Katara!

  18. Hello! Hi.Juyo, if you want to expand into different types of Poptropica costumes, you could post links to blogs that are solely about those! There are many of them. I found one (sadly, it is only for female Poptropicans), but you don’t need credits for most of the outfits, they are actually quite good, and she posts pretty often. She hasn’t gotten many views but I think her blog would be helpful. It’s:
    http://poptropfashionista.blogspot.com/

    1. Awesome idea! Those are some pretty good female outfits – let me know if you find more quality blogs like it. I’ve revamped the Costumes page quite a bit now to incorporate more images and how to actually attain the costume parts. ๐Ÿ˜€

  19. Sleepless Outcast:

~The hair, bangs and jacket/necktie come from the Vampire Girl 3 costume in the Poptropica Store.
~The shirt and pants come from the Rattlesnake Wrangler costume which can be got as an optional item in Wild West Island.
~The cheeks come from the Cheerleader costume.
~The sad mouth comes from the male police officer on Main Street in Zomberry Island.

  20. I’ve got a few costumes that I’d like to share with my fellow Poptropicans on the PHB. Sadly I don’t have pictures to show you, but if I did I would definitely include them in my post.

    Look #1: The Wannabe Vampire
~To begin styling for this lovely outfit, you need a nice hairdo, and what better style to use for a wannabe vampire than the lovely ‘do on the girl waiting for the movies on Vampire’s Curse Island. While you’re their, it wouldn’t hurt to costumize the bags underneath her eyes from a lack of sleep. Wannabe Vampire now has her beautiful silken locks, and there only leaves one thing to work on; the colour. The best colour to use for Wannabe Vampire is black, or at least dark brown, as it stands out next to the pink streak. If you’re the kinda girl who loves to sweep their hair into bangs, one style that goes very well with the Wannabe Vampire’s ‘do is the sideswept bangs from the boy outside the TV shop on Reality TV Island.
~Now for the outfit that every Wannabe Vampire is nothing without. You’ll have to direct your blimp to Astro-Knights Island where you should make your way to (wait for it) Ye Olde Rumor Mille. Which Wannabe Vampire outfit would be complete without something costumized from the creepy girl on the ledge? The necessary is the necklace and/or skull belt from her, but you can also get a nice black dress from her. If the dress isn’t your favourite look, there’s always the spider girl in Early Poptropica Island, underneath Main Street. If you’ve won Haunted House, don’t get the red dress. Red, black and pink will clash horribly. If you’re bending towards a more modern angle, a great one to use is the jacket and skirt from the girl in Main Street, Cryptids Island. An outfit that worked for me was to keep the skull belt and skirt of the Astro-Knights girl, but to get rid of the necklace and substitute the bodice with the shirt of the girl on Cryptids.
~Finally, the extra additions, because what outfit would be complete without the well-thought-out finishing touches? As mentioned before, you need bags under your eyes (found on the girl in Vampire’s Curse Island). You will need a frown on your face, such as the expression on the girl in blue that you see on Mythology Island (not the one with fruit on her head), but any frowning or disapproving expression works. You’ll need a pale or pure white complexion with no blush or fancy jewelry (other than the necklace and skull belt mentioned before).

Followed all of these steps? Hey presto! You have the Wannabe Vampire!

  21. Look #2: Goddess of Love
~Here you will discover how to make a character so beautiful that she would make Aphrodite jealous. The first thing is, of course, the hairstyle, and the ‘do that you should get without a doubt is the beautiful rosy hairdo that Aphrodite has. Bangs can be obtained from the girl in green, who can be seen in Mythology Island, Herc’s Hero Hut. The colour can be made in many ways; with the colorizer, in 24 Carrot Island using the drinks in the diner or from creating a new character.
~The second part that every stylist must decide on is the divine outfit. The clothing to go with the features is obtainable by these steps: get the sunglasses from the girl in Mythology Island, on the beach beside Aphrodite (the one in red). You can use the red Cheerleader outfit.
~These are the final touches: lips are able to be found on Aphrodite in Mythology Island. You can have a pale or regular skin complexion.

Here is what you should look like after following the steps:
    http://tinypic.com/r/kluvd/6

  22. Zombie King-By Me,Sticky Clown-

    Picture: http://poptropicatip.files.wordpress.com/2013/01/zombie-king.jpg

Robes and crown: From the king of Arthurus.
Zombie eyes, mouth and face: From the Zombify item by completing Haunted House.
Jacket: From the Leprechaun costume in the store.
Shirt and pants: From the Frankenstein guy in the Ghostโ€™s Gala (the underground tunnel in haunted house).
Knife: From the guy with a grey beard on the far left on the Main Street in Astro-Knights.
Scepter: From the Pharaoh costume or the Lightning Bolt in the store.
Skin: Turn it purple using the Ctrl+Shift+S cheat, the Colourizer,or the balloons in Poptropica Towers,Early Poptropica.

  23. Hello! I have an avatar I made for the Ninth Doctor Who Doctor. Here are the steps to make it! The user if you wanna costumize is ninthdr and http://www.poptropica.com/avatarstudio/avatar.html?a=bQk5Qa0hzYm1sdWRHaGtjZz09

    1. Get dark brown hair color from 24 Carrot or Randomize
    2. Get light skin from Early Pop. or Randomize
    3. Use mouth of choice
    4. Use sideburns from Goth Boy at front of Reality Tv Show Island
    5. Use purple super hero costume top from Super Hero Island
    6. Black pants from anywhere ๐Ÿ™‚ I got mine in Spy Island
    7. Go to Red Dragon Island and copy the long jacket from the guy left in front of the bookstore (credit directions to Lightning Girl 20’s blog)
    8. Use the short cropped hair in before you go on the Blimp, or go to Early Pop. and find it.

Tada!! Feel free to use it! Plz give credit to me, Speedy Spinner ๐Ÿ™‚

  24. I have a cute nerdy girl!
Shirt: From the motel owner on Reality TV
    Pants: Any pants
Hair: Veruca Salt’s hair on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
    Mouth: Any mouth
Glasses: from the guy at Loch Ness on Cryptids

      1. i got the sword from the templar knight costume in the store, i got the shirt from the user, Red Gamer, but i cant remember his username sorry

  25. I made a Terezi Pyrope (from Homestuck) costume:
    http://www.poptropica.com/avatarstudio/avatar.html?a=banFQaURmVUdsdWEybGxjR2xsTXpRPQ%3D%3D

    1. Dye your skin a medium gray tone
    2. Customize the hair from CJ’s mom on Shrink Ray Island. Dye it black.
    3. Get the bangs from any constantly changing, “generic,” if you will, NPC from any island, preferably Early Poptropica.
    4. Customize the shirt from that gamer dude on Zomberry Island.
    5. Get the red glasses from the surfer girl costume. Or, if you can find other opaque, candy-red glasses, use those. Either way, the glasses are an absolute must.
    6. Get a red laser tagging gun from the Wimpy Boardwalk common room. This will function as a red crayon. ALTERNATIVE: Use a paint brush.
    7. There are a few mouths that will work. You can use the forever-talking mouth (someone in a common room might have it), the open smiling mouth (the girl in Shrink Ray with the belly button science fair project has it), generic black lips (smiling or neutral), a generic frowning mouth (go for “frown,” not “grimace”)… There actually isn’t much that /won’t/ work, but those are my top choices (more or less in that order).
    8. If you want some extra semi-canon pizzazz, you can customize the dragon wings from one of the girl monster costumes (the larger ones). Terezi herself doesn’t have dragon wings, but her guardian does.

The only reason the checkered belt is present is because I don’t like how it looks without a belt (the shirt is too short for my taste).

    1. Also, I would like to point out that the canon skin tone for trolls is “c4c4c4”, or “196, 196, 196”. Fiddle around with your customizer and whatever other technology you may need (I used an in-browser eye-dropper tool) to get the skin color right if you’re really gung-ho about it. By a bit of luck and a trained eye, I was able to get the tone right on the first try after I realized the skin tone I was using was too dark.
