🗺 Poptropica Graphic Novel, Volume 1: Mystery of the Map

A freak thunderstorm during a hot air balloon ride rips brother and sister Oliver and Mya and their companion, Jorge, from the “normal” world to the dangerous, unpredictable, and mystical world of Poptropica. The kids embark on a perilous journey to discover the truth about this mysterious place… and the shocking reason they were brought here. (There are four books in this series — find more about the rest in our Merch Guide!)

🎈Poptropica: the Comic Strip

Two young heroes, Oliver and Jorge, get thrown into the foreign world of Poptropica and have to survive the troubles thrown at them in this crazy adventure, which released a new strip every day from 2014–16. The images below only go up to week 8, so see below for where to find the rest of the strips.

To catch up with the official Poptropica series, check out these Google Slides compiled by Invisible Ring and Nezt50:

  • Part 1/3 starts from the beginning and goes through islands with monkey people, Frankenstein monsters, balloon animals, dinosaurs, puppy newspapers, minotaurs, pirate penguins, chocolate everything, dentists, devils, werewolves (and the moon), a hotel, and vegetable Frankensteins.
  • Part 2/3 picks up where Part 1 left off with vegetable Frankensteins, then goes through islands with a Wizard of Oz theme, flying monkeys, cleaning supplies, a desert, robots, and the Wild West.
  • Part 3/3 picks up where Part 2 left off with the Wild West, going underground with mole people, then through islands with mimes, a black-and-white theme, a library, the underwater city of Atlantis, and finally Dr. Frankensteins.

In 2022, Poptropica began re-releasing the comic series daily in-game. Previously, they were also available in daily installments on the Daily Pop, the GoComics website (which started later), weekly on the Creators’ Blog (which caught up with the Daily Pop every Sunday), Funbrain (which was ahead of all the other options), or the official Poptropica Comics iOS app. The arrival on the island of Dr. Frankensteins is the last known strip.

Funnily enough, most of the lands explored by Oliver and Jorge in the comics (which are made by Paul Gilligan & Kory Merritt) have not actually appeared in the game Poptropica. There are a few parallel exceptions (an iceberg shipwreck like SOS, a robot uprising like Game Show, the Wild West, mole people like Crisis Caverns, Mission Atlantis, and black-and-white Graysville like Dullsville in Goofball) but the comic versions do not match the game. Still, since they appear in official comics, these exotic locales can be considered Poptropica canon.

  1. It looks like Poptropica: The Comic Series hasn’t updated on Funbrain since about Spring-ish, but it DOES update on GoComics! — ➡ 😎 Smart Popper  🙄 ⭐

  2. I love the Mystery of the Map series. Out of all of the comics, it’s probably my favorite. The actual Poptropica series (the one with just Oliver and Jorge) is second only because after I get to a certain point, my computer glitches and I can’t go any farther!

    1. In fact, one of the only reasons that I kept coming to Poptropica for a while is…. *dramatic pause* I didn’t want to miss the new Mystery of the Map page(s)!

  3. When Jorge and Oliver are locked in the balloon animal jail in Poptropica: The Comic Series, there’s a poster in the background that says,”Wanted- Dr. Hare”

  4. My favorite Poptropica comic is the Graphic Novel. I don’t know if my favorite character is Oliver or Octavian. It’s pretty split. Reply by saying who your favorite character is in the Graphic Novel!

  5. Will you be able to put the second graphic novel, The Lost Expedition, on this comic page? I’d love to read it here, but if you can’t for any reason, I totally understand.

  6. To Staff of the PHB: I am not allowed to buy it in the stores because my parents are not big fans of Poptropica (more equivalent to burning The Lost Expedition if they ever find it before I do) so please get The Lost Expedition on this page plezplezplez thanks in advance if you can! (If you can’t, it’s okay, you aren’t being forced, I totally understand.) Oh, and just for the heck of randomness:
( ) ( ) I like to play Pop so gimme da book ()() But no pressure 😉

  7. My brother and I loved reading the Comic series on gocomics, now it’s disappeared. I wish they had published a book compilation when they abandoned the comics for the graphic novels (the time it stops is when they start). This is why I prefer owning physical books over ebooks. You don’t have anything. This blog are missing mcguffin island, library, Atlantis, and Dr.Frankenstein island on which they are left indefinitely. I haven’t found a better collection anywhere else.

    1. Me too, except it’s going to take a while for them to reach the place where they left off. Hopefully it doesn’t end in the same place.

  8. I used to read these comics all the time back in elementary school. It was like around 2014-15. I still remember some of the plots. I forgot the website the comics were posted on, but I believe it was PBS or something. I still remember that the first story had some doctor/dentist with laughing gas.

  9. My Fav. Comic Is Zomberry Day Zero because of the zombies but I’m a girl so… IDK anymore. so I like all comics! they were very good!
