Wimpy Boardwalk Island

They Know Around The Boardwalk

Hola, Poptropicans! With the recent release of the Summer-anticipated island, Wimpy Boardwalk, members got to experience it first hand. And the Creators exposed the first ten players who figured out the Boardwalk first. The island could be pretty tough to figure out independently without a guide (just a little warning for the non-members waiting for it)! And so if you hit a brick wall, you could always turn to the official PHB guideย or video playlist! And here goes the list. Congratulations to..

We so excited

On July 26, 2012, the Poptropica Help Blog turns four years old! Just like last year, we’re celebrating with a PHB Author Night at the Poptropica Help Chatroom (PHC), in which you, dear readers, will get to talk live with the authors of this blog and meet lots of other awesome Poptropicans!

DATE: Thursday, July 26, 2012

TIME: 5:30pm PST / 6:30pm MST / 7:30 CST / 8:30pm, EST
(There’s no set time for it to end, so stay as long as you can!)

PLACE: The PHC!

Be sure to check which time zone you’re in to make sure you come at the right time! (Though it wouldn’t hurt to be early.) EST is Eastern Standard Time in the USA, but if you’re in the GMT+8 time zone like me, that’s 8:30am.

PHC
The PHCย – where Author Night will be taking place. A safe chatroom environment with moderators, and of course, PHB authors!

The PHCย can be accessed by clicking the “Chat” link in the navigation bar above, or by going to xat.com/thephc. Be sure to familiarize yourself with the chat rules and ranks (this information can be found by scrolling down on the Xat page). Even on regular days (before & after Author Night), you’re welcome to use the PHC.

See you then!

Wimpy Boardwalk Island

Summer “Board”om?

Then “Walk” on over to Wimpy Boardwalk, because it is OUT…for members. (I’m bad at jokes huh? Points for effort? ๐Ÿ˜€ )

There is a demo out for non-members though. Once you land on the Boardwalk, talk to Greg. He’ll tell you how the game he’s playing, Himalayan Hurl is rigged. When he takes out his money, it flies away into the hands of two teenagers who run off with it. Follow Greg as he runs after them. Catch up with him at the Boardwalk Arcade and says the teens disappeared somewhere. Go right to the beach and talk to the guy selling Souvenir keychain photos. Tell him you don’t have any money and he’ll let you take a photo for free. (You get a photo for your photo album once you complete this action).ย  He gives you sunblock, which you’ll be able to use for this guy once the full island releases.

While you’re there, you’ll see a seagull carrying a keychain! Jump onto the trash can and whenย  the seagull passes over you, jump and get the keychain. See a striking resemblance to the guy with the metal detector? You can give it to him when the full island releases. Meanwhile, go back to the Boardwalk arcade and see Greg tell you that the kids are underneath the boardwalk taunting you with the money, like so:

If you try to go underneath the boardwalk, they run away with the money. So you’ll have to find a way to get the money without them running away. CUE END OF DEMO if you go to the beach or the Boardwalk Rides. But this place will play a role in your quest:

Wimpy Boardwalk Trivia!

1) There is a handheld laser gun in the common room! But you don’t get to keep it ๐Ÿ˜ฆ *sigh*

2) Your character getsย  to wear SHOES!

3) This is the first time the Creators’ have released an island out of the blue without a countdown.

~~~
The island will be released to everyone on July 18! At least it’s a shorter wait! ๐Ÿ™‚
Happy 4th of July for those in the US! And Happy Wednesday for those that aren’t!
The Mystery of Zaggy Moondust
A new character named Zaggy Moondust was featured today on the Creators’ Blog, with the caption “Who is Zaggy Moondust? And what’s he got to do with Poptropica? Perhaps one day we will find out.”
The name does have that Poptropica feel to it, but it’s not one of the standard Poptropican names. It’s worth noting that it sounds like a spin on Ziggy Stardust, which was English musician David Bowie’s alter ego. Dressed like a pop/rock star, perhaps Zaggy Moondust is an idol for screaming fangirls.
The image shows both a boy and girl in the same Zaggy Moondust outfit, so which is it? However, the caption uses the pronoun “he,” which suggests that ZM is male. Perhaps it’s a costume that will be made available to both genders? Or is ZM a character with the ability to change genders?
Who do you think Zaggy Moondust is?
Ice Age Continental Drift
If you go onto the Map in Poptropica, you might notice something new.ย  Well, two new things, actually.ย  The first new thing is this:
The Creators have added Wimpy Boardwalk to the Map!ย  It’s obviously not out yet, but maybe that’s a sign that it’s going to come out soon!ย  …Maybe?
Anyway, the second new thing that you might notice is a certain iceberg floating around on the bottom of the map.
It’s an ad for the new Ice Age movie!
Click on the little iceberg to enter the ad.
When you enter the ad you’ll see this to the left:
If you click on it, an icon will appear next to your items.
If you click on the icon, you’ll be brought to a page where you’re able to see previews, a list of the characters, the story line, things like that.
There’s a sign that’s shaped like an arrow next to the notifier thing.
Go to the left and a monkey named Captain Gutt will tell you this:
This page will pop up:
The page says “Select A Game”, when it should say “Select The Game”, cause the game called Granny’s Bath isn’t available for you to play until July 2nd.ย  Which is fine by me; Granny’s Bath doesn’t sound like a very…appealing game anyway.
The game that you can play is called Escape from Captain Gutt.ย  This game is really easy.ย  What you do is you sail your iceberg, following the arrow of a compass.ย  The arrow points to your home.ย  The iceberg’s controls are exactly the same as the ones for your boats in Skullduggery Island, which makes it that much easier.ย  Basically just point your cursor in the direction that you want to go and click to fire what they say are cannonballs, but I have a sneaking suspicion that they’re actually snowballs.ย  Just try to avoid hitting other icebergs, running into sea crabs, and getting fired at by pirate ships.ย  Oh, and, obviously, Manny doesn’t understand that someone shouting things at you while you’re trying to sail is very distracting.ย  So, just try to ignore him.
Once you beat the game, you get two items.
The first item is a Badger Pirate Flag.
The second item is a Dodo Follower.
When you’re done with the game, go to the right and you’ll see a trailer that you can watch if you want to.
Keep going right, and you’ll see another sign shaped like an arrow.
Follow the sign, and go to the right.
Go to the right and up a little bit and you will find yourself in front of the ScrArcade.
If you go inside you’ll get to see some trailers.ย  There’s also a spot where you can download some wallpapers.
If you go to the right you’ll see another arrow sign.ย  They must really like arrows…
This thing is so important that it needed two signs, the second one (which is a little bit to the right of the first one) is even decked out with a disco ball.
Sid is standing to the right of this purty sign.ย  Talk to him.ย  Your conversation will go as follows:
(Bit melodramatic, don’t you think?)
The dancing game is really easy, as well.ย  It’s one of those memorization games that you see all the time.ย  A letter will get a glow around it, and you have to press that same letter on your keyboard.ย  Then it’ll be two letters, then three letters, and so on.
Once you beat the game you’ll get two more prizes.
The first prize is the Granny Costume.
The second item is the Acorn Costume.
Edit: Thanks to Tough Spider for letting me know that the boys’ prize for the Dance with Sid game is a Sid Costume instead of the Granny Costume.ย  Here’s a picture of it:
Well, that’s about it.
Since I can’t think of any other way to end this boring post, and since I’m sort of obsessed with these Brave motion graph things that I found on Brave’s website…
If you haven’t seen Brave yet, you should see it for two reasons.
One: cause it’s so hilarious you’ll laugh so hard that you’ll start crying.
Two: cause I told you so. ๐Ÿ˜‰
