2013 | Cautious Discovery

One day in third grade, I was playing on Funbrain, and after losing many times on the game Mighty Guy, I was utterly bored. So, as the story goes, I looked around the site and found Poptropica. I was always warned by my parents not to click on ads, so I was cautious for a day or two. Then, finally, I just thought, oh, what the heck, and I clicked on Poptropica.

I made my first avatar, but at the time I was sort of clueless, and I didn’t figure out how to save my game until a month later. In that time, I had made many many accounts (of which none were saved). Finally, I finished Zomberry Island and Early Poptropica, and I really wanted to save my game, because I was happy with my progress. I looked around for a way to save my account and finally made one. I believe my username had something to do with my pet parakeet, but I’m not sure…

Anyway, I remember nothing about this account. No, wait. I remember, I finished all the islands up to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. (This was quite a while ago, so all the islands were still open to non-members.)

2014 | Boredom Leads The Way

I am sorry to say, that after discovering Poptropica, I became almost completely inactive on Poptropica for about half a year. I got into a new game called Animal Jam that me and all my friends played. By this time, I was in fourth grade. Our school district had chosen our class for a pilot experiment where they gave us all Chromebook laptops. Then, one day, Animal Jam was blocked, and in my boredom, I rediscovered Poptropica.

I convinced some of my friends to do a Multiverse with me. Since I had forgotten my first account, I made a new one, happyhappy760, one of which I still use today. The avatar’s name first came out as Dizzy Lizard, and I thought it was a good name, but not great. Finally, after a million”change all”s, I plunged back into Poptropica as Lucky Snowball.

2015 | Discovering the PHB

By 2015, I was an avid player, and I was pretty smart, so I solved most the islands by myself. But, when I finally attempted Steamworks Island, my mind went blank. So, I looked up guides on the internet, and I found the Poptropica Help Blog. At that point in my life, I really did not understand blogging, so whenever I came across the blog, I would think, This is annoying, why do the pages keep changing? Finally, a friend explained to me how it worked, and I started to really like the PHB.

I also discovered Keith Sammut’s Poptropica glitches blog, which I also really liked. Finally, I decided to make my own blog. It’s called The Poptropican Journalist.

Anyway, I grew to really love the PHB. I found myself checking for new posts twice a day, until finally I restricted myself and said, hey, I’ve got to stop – I’ll check every other day. 😛 Also, thanks to the PHB’s fantastic guides, I’ve finished every island! Basically, the PHB was my one and only guide to Poptropica for a long time (and then I discovered Poptrickia and other blogs, and I got hooked on various Poptropica fansites because of the awesome stories. I was so looking forward to Giant Hawk’s Adventures! 😦 ).

2016 | Today, And Why Things Are the Way They Are…

(That was a long heading!) Today, I still avidly play Poptropica. Middle school, pets, and priorities take up a lot of my time – but, I still find that free time to play (until ten at night), and it (almost) never gets boring.

As for “why things are the way they are”… First, I’ll explain my costume. It sort of looks like a punk-angel pirate. I primarily liked this because it was a fusion of my absolute favorite Poptropica costumes: the Angel, the Biker, and the Skullduggery Pirate. (I find the pirate rather creepy actually, considering the fact it has a weird skull face…)

It also sort of describes myself. I feel like sort of like a devil/angel. I am very nice most of the time, but when things go wrong, I jump in, looking for adventure. (I know that sounds cheesy.) Like, because that’s what a pirate does. Always looking out for things to do. I’m also a part of the Wildfire tribe, which I really like, because of the grand piano in the common room. That’s literally the only reason I joined. 😛

Also, these days, I write lots of stories, about many different things in Poptropica. I wrote about Speedy Sam’s past, Lucky Snowball’s adventures, and my brother Short Eagle’s adventures. That’s about it for My Place in Poptropica!

PHB Sneak Peeks: Zombies, Catapults, a Cave, & More

Hey, Poptropicans!

Mighty Gamer here with another sneak peeks post. Credit goes to idk for the video and xml file, which I’ll share first, and Teen Arachnid for more mini-game sneak peeks.

Crisis Caverns

Before going on about this, there’s some new information from idk that has come to light: Crisis Caverns Island is currently cancelled. Disappointing, but at least it’s the truth.

And from here on out, let’s remember to take any unofficial sneak peeks with a grain of salt – while they may be seen in the Poptropica files, they may not always become reality in the game. With that being said, let’s try to enjoy these sneak peeks!

Here’s a new Crisis Caverns video, which is of a room called “Secret Cave”, whatever that could really mean! I love the design. What do you think?

Somewhere throughout the video, you might have seen a couple stacks of stone. I thought it looked similar to the cheese in the trash can on Shrink Ray Island. I’m sure it’s only a coincidence, but it was just a little something I noticed.

You won’t believe what’s in this xml file. Yes, yes. It’s another xml file. But this one has something interesting. As you read through it, you should find this line: “Congratulations! You have completed the Crisis Caverns Episode 1 quest.” Perhaps they were making another episodic adventure, or just using that as a template, but again, since the island is cancelled (at least for now), it doesn’t matter. 😦

Game Jam

Here are some sneak peeks for Game Jam, an unreleased mini-game mentioned in a previous PHB post. In the game, you defend yourself by using musical instruments. And as you can see, there are 5 Poptropicans at the bottom (pictured below) those of which you control.

You have to click at least twice to take out the closest light blue Zomberry in a column. For the dark purple Zomberries, you have to click about five times. But if you let the zombies get to the bottom, of course, the game will end. That’s every survival game, right? Here is a popup that will appear if you lose the game:

Zombie Catapult

In this mini-game that takes place on Zomberry Island, several zombies amble towards you, these are only a few of the many trying to attack you. You protect yourself with a single catapult… I guess it’s Catapult vs Zombies here, not Plants vs Zombies.

This is the catapult. There is a conveyor belt right below it, bringing things like trash, bags, sinks, rocks, etc. to your catapult. To progress in the game, you must use those items to knock out the zombies coming at you.

But there’s a catch! You can’t see the zombies as their coming, so it makes it a lot more difficult to aim for them. Once a zombie gets to you, of course, you’ll lose and have to start over. Interesting game, right?

PHB’s Summer Kickoff Party 2016: You’re All Invited!

Hey, Poptropicans! What time is it?!

SUMMER TIME!! (Yes, High School Musical reference fully intended.)

Oh, and the PHB recently reached 25 million hits! That’s two reasons to celebrate! And that means… we’re hosting a party! The party will be held at the PHC, a place for Poptropicans to talk, share Multiverse codes, and just have a good time!

If you’re not familiar with the PHC, it’s the PHB’s official chat hangout, and it stands for Poptropica Help Chat. Anyone is welcome to come and chat at any time, even when there isn’t a party going on. You can access it anytime at the link discord.me/thePHC, and we highly encourage you to make a Discord account – it’s easy and free! You might even meet a Poptropica Creator!

It’s important to note that the PHC is a kid-friendly chat, with certain guidelines in place. You can find these under the #tutorial text channel, where you’ll also find other things like formatting help, a channel guide, and more! Our party will most likely take place in the #main channel, but feel free to explore the other channels as well! Since moving away from Xat a while back, this will be our first PHC party on Discord, and we hope it’s a good one!

This year’s summer solstice is Monday, June 20, 2016 at 6:34pm EST, so if you come a little early, you can join us in counting down to the summer kickoff! From there, the festivities could go on for a few hours, so feel free to come and go as your schedule permits.

Anyway, you’re all invited, and here are the details for the event:

Creator Q&A: PHC Discord Edition

Heyyo Poptropicans, it’s Ultimate iPad Expert here. Today, I was simply minding my business on the Poptropica Help Chat (PHC), chatting here and there with the community.

And then suddenly, she appeared… At around 1:20pm EST, the one and only Skinny Moon (Poptropica’s social media manager) decided to drop in to the PHC and chat some with the community. We thought it would be a good idea to compile this little impromptu Q&A session in a post for you guys, and so, without further ado, here it is!

Tall Cactus: Any news about the New Poptropica?
Skinny Moon: Nothing I can say yet. Trust me, when I have news, you guys will know!

Slanted Fish: Any behind the scenes info?
Skinny Moon: Ummmmmm… well…. hmmmmmm….

Tall Cactus: When will you have news? lol
Skinny Moon: I know you guys are starved for info, but I don’t have the go-ahead to give any out. We are SUPER busy working on both the current Poptropica and new Poptropica!

Slanted Fish: Any info about the contest winner’s call with Jeff Kinney?
Skinny Moon: The call got SUPER delayed because of a ton of things – health problems, business trips, etc. – and I just got access to the video recently. It’s on my list of to-dos to watch it and figure out if it needs editing before posting on YT!

Slanted Fish: Any news about officiation of the wiki/other sites?
Skinny Moon: Wiki also on my to-do list!

Slanted Fish: Would you guys be able to update the Daily Pop at least with some old pictures of the creative process and such, since you can’t share anything new at the moment?
Skinny Moon: I asked about posting older stuff on the Daily Pop and we’re going to look into it!

idk: Is the new membership page mobile-friendly? That’s what it looks like.
Skinny Moon: Yes, new membership page is mobile friendly

Tall Cactus: When do you think New Pop will be released, at least? And will there be a new island on the current pop?
Skinny Moon: New Pop scheduled to be released late this year and there will be new islands (plural!) on it!

Ylimegirl: Are we still going to be able to play the old Poptropica islands with the new Poptropica?
Skinny Moon: The old Pop won’t just disappear when the new Pop debuts, so you’ll still be able to play old islands there.

Slanted Fish: Are all the current islands going to be on the new Pop, with the new art style?
Skinny Moon: Can’t yet talk about on specifics regarding current islands and New Pop. We’re super busy working on new features for both the current Poptropica and making the New Poptropica. I know you guys are used to bunches of islands coming out each year and this year isn’t typical. But trust me, we have SO MUCH awesome coming your way!

Perfect Sky: I think I’m the only one wondering if there will every be new popgum….
Mad Apper: Every new PopGum? Even Island-Flavored? What am I saying? Yep. New PopGum to go with every island.
Skinny Moon: Oooooh, I like the idea of new PopGum for every island!

Ripley: Wait aren’t you the one who runs the FB page?? I’m Lizzy, that chick you roasted in January. ^w^
Skinny Moon: Hi! Nice to see you! All you PHC people – if you’re on Facebook, come say hi there, too – like Lizzy!

Tall Cactus: So, will there be a new island on the current Pop?
Skinny Moon: I can’t comment on potential new islands. Sorry!

Criaha: What’s your personal favorite island?
Skinny Moon: Hmmmmmm… that’s tough… I like MOTM a lot.

Slanted Fish: If it’s okay to ask, how is Poptropica doing financially? There have been a few rumors in both directions, but they’re mostly speculation.
Skinny Moon: Poptropica is doing great!

idk: Since the new Poptropica is being built in Unity, have there been any changes within Poptropica’s development team? Any new creators because of this change?
Skinny Moon: Our Creators are loving working with Unity. I’ve seen some awesome early animation – I wish I could show you!

CraftyPoptropiqueen: Is Binary Bard ever gonna come back? ;w;
idk: E. Vile come back, please.
Criaha: Wait, I don’t want to sound annoying, but will ringmaster raven come back? O3O
idk: Dr. Cumulo Nimbus gets no attention either.
Tall Cactus: What about Black Widow?
Skinny Moon: I will let the Creators know you all want to see the villains come back!

Brave Tomato: How’d you get the community contact job? ^^
Skinny Moon: I’ve been working for the company since January 2015 and was hired to manage the GHD blog and social. That went well, so they gave me Poptropica. And then that went well, so they gave me everything social media-related under the StoryArc Media umbrella – though right now I’m pretty Poptropica-focused.

Tall Cactus: Is there gonna be a Pop TV Show?
Skinny Moon: Though we’d LOVE a Pop TV show, that’s not something in the immediate future…

Angry Tomato: Any new islands?
Skinny Moon: All I can say about new Islands is there will be new islands in the New Poptropica!

Criaha: I was just wondering, will you ever have LGBT characters?
Skinny Moon: Excellent question. I don’t think I can officially say anything about this yet, but trust me when I say allowing full customization of a player’s character is something we’re discussing for the New Poptropica.

MissEligon: I have a question, I feel like this might be something to hide until later, but will we ever hear more about the infamous for villains?
Skinny Moon: Hmmmm… TBD…

Quite the interesting Q&A session, despite being an unexpected visit. It really was a fun time, and we’re hoping Skinny Moon will stop by more often! 😀
