The Poptropica Costume Contest!

BIG news today – Poptropica is holding another art contest!

This one is quite different from the last few held – the #MyPoptropicaCostume contest asks you to design your dream costume. If it wins, you’ll get a 6 month membership and it will be made into a real Poptropica costume and sold in the store, as well as being worn by an NPC on Home Island! How cool is that?

And yes, Skinny Moon did include a meme in her post.

Of course, there are some guidelines for this contest, as listed below:

  • You can use our template (find it here) to draw your outfit. Or draw your Poptropican’s outfit freehand (here’s a guide). Or draw your creation using your computer or tablet. Whatever you want!
  • Use your imagination! Get inspired by your favorite movies or TV shows and put your own original twist on them. Or think about your favorite activities, sports, and hobbies, and base a costume around one of them. Check out your favorite magazines and take a cue from the latest trends. The sky’s the limit!
  • Don’t forget about fun accessories and powers that your costume could have!
    When you design your costume, be sure it could be reproducable as a Poptropica Costume. Teeny tiny details would be hard to recreate for a store costume.
  • Give your costume a name and put your Poptropican’s name on it, and if you want, your age. Do not include your last name or where you live. For example, your entry could say something like “Winter Fun Outfit by Happy Catfish, age 14.”

Like the last few contests, you have to submit your creations through a social media account with the tag #MyPoptropicaCostume. If you don’t have a social media account, and don’t know anyone (adult, friend, etc) who can post for you, fret not – we at the PHB would be more than happy to post it for you on our Twitter – just contact the PHB to let us know.

The contest ends on December 31st with the winner announced in January. That means we have about a month and a half to make some fabulous costumes – get drawing!

The creators leave us with two costumes created by Perfect Sky as inspiration, if needed.

Fun in the sun – in November!

Hey guys, my name is Brave Tomato, and welcome to a quick little post of mine!

So it’s November. For those of you who live in the Northern Hemisphere, the air is crisp and the leaves are at their peak of their sunset coloring. The air’s getting colder, certain fashions and lattes are back in season, and it is a calm before the winter that’s slowly emerging.

So what is it a perfect time for? Going out to the park and enjoying the scenery? No, according to Poptropica, it’s the perfect time… for the beach!

Well, there are places in the world where it is fine time for the beach, whether it would be because it is mid-to-late spring for those in the Southern Hemisphere or if you live near the equator. In honor of these summer wishes, the Creators have released a new set of Store items!

As you can see, there are several new outfits (each worth 250 credits):

  • Tropic Beachware* 1 (boys) (*um, shouldn’t it be “beachwear“?)
  • Tropic Outfit 1 (girls)
  • Tropic Outfit 2 (girls)
  • Scuba Gear (boys & girls)

Plus, two new pets: a white terrier dog and a tabby cat; both worth a whopping 1000 credits, so if you want to get it, you’ll have to earn it! (Or become a member, I suppose.)

There’s an additional item that is now available, but it’s for members only: the Spray Tan! card. This card will orange-ify any soul who’s standing next to you instantly! Perfect for those who miss their summer tans.

Not only are the stores getting summer-y, the Home Island also has their characters in the summer spirit with leis and grass skirts!

This week marks the 50th round of PMFM and just so happens to be the same week that Round 1 released last year (Technically, the anniversary is Nov 16, but this week is this year’s equivalent Monday). It’s been a long road since last year. It’s been a crazy 12 months for me, not only here in the community, but IRL, as well. Really, I’m so thankful to have all of you guys giving me support for this silly series. I just want to thank all of those who send in submissions, all of you who are kind enough to like or comment on PMFM posts, and just an overall thank you to all of the viewers of the series for sticking on so long. None of this would be possible without you guys. Anyways, I just had to give my little speech. On with the show! Welcome to round fifty of PMFM (Poptropican Meme Face Mondays)!

PHB Pop-over is back, and this time the crossover franchise is an old favorite: Harry Potter! You can check out past Pop-overs we’ve done here on the PHB in the Pop-over category here.

Harry Potter, for those who aren’t familiar (but really, who isn’t?), is a fantasy novel series written by J.K. Rowling, with eight films to complement the seven books. It’s about a young wizard, the titular Harry, and his adventures in the wizarding world. Highly recommended!

2011 – 2013 | Poptropica Videos and Starting an Account

Back in 2011, I followed a really popular YouTuber who went by the name of Insiders Network. He was a gameplay commentator who would upload videos about Club Penguin, Webkinz, and Poptropica. I really loved his Poptropica videos, and they made me want to play as well.

So I created my first account, gregoryben10. I became hooked to the game, completing every island, day after night. It’s hard for me to recall the exact details, but I do remember that I had a hard time beating Skullduggery Island, so I quit for a couple of months.

In 2013, I thought of the game again and wanted to revisit it. So I grabbed my mom’s computer, and started typing in Poptropica’s web address in again. I tried to log in to my gregoryben10 account, but it didn’t work! I tried every password I could think of, but to no avail.

I looked at Poptropica’s troubleshooting page and it said that the account went poof if you left it dormant for 6+ months. (This is actually not true, but I didn’t know how to get my account back.) Anyway, I was pretty mad about that. Two years’ worth of play time on that account! I didn’t want to play Poptropica after that, but found myself doing it anyway.

2014 – 2015 | Hello, Calm Flipper!

In early 2014, I created a new account called gregoryben2, which is my current account. I looked back at Insiders Network on YouTube to find out that the same guy now went by the alias of Thinknoodles.

I soon wanted to buy Poptropica membership, and my mom let me! So I hopped on my new account, and played my first island on it, which was Ghost Story Island.

I played through most of the islands during this time, but something caught my interest. There was a fan website dedicated to Poptropica, which I thought would really help me get through some islands that I was stuck on. It was called the PHB. I scurried through the islands after that (with some left unfinished), and through browsing the PHB, I became an avid Poptropica fan (I was also a fan of Club Penguin at this time).

2016 – present | It’s Me Again!

I played through all of the new SUI islands, which I neglected back then because they were pretty laggy overall. After that I got pretty bored – that is, until I found the PHB Discord chat (the PHC), which I gladly joined, officially joining the Poptropica fan community!

I got a lot better with gaming in 2015, so I used my new skill to beat Skullduggery Island. Somehow I did it, beating the island which seemed so hard before. I beat the island which I had previously deemed impossible to beat. I looked down at my palms, (which were filled with sweat from a hard night’s worth of effort) and laughed. I laughed with glee, and joy, and all of those great emotions. I was happy.
