Pop 5: Features for Friends that’d be Fancy

(Hey Poptropicans! This is a guest post written by TallMelonisCool, a Poptropica player in the community. In this post he’ll be sharing his ideas for features that could be added to Friends. Enjoy! –🐠)

pop5-friends

Hey guys! So we all know the Friends feature, released back in 2012, that changed Poptropica forever, allowing us to keep up with our Poptropica friends. But over the years, I’ve been thinking that there are some features the Creators should really add to make friending a lot more fun. Let’s get onto the Pop 5 list of potential features for friends that would be improvements!

1) Showing friend’s Realms stats

I’d like to see how my friends are doing in Realms. There could be a new box on the profile for Realms stats, and clicking it would show things like:

  • what level your friend is at
  • how much Poptanium they have
  • when was the last time they visited Realms
  • how many Realms they’ve made, as well as the ability to visit those Realms
  • all the public Realms your friend has liked

2) Battle stats (wins & losses)

Another feature that would be cool to see: clicking on a friend’s battle ranking on their profile to show their wins and losses in the common room games. You’d be able to tell which games they liked more, which games they were stronger at or weaker at, and perhaps there could even be a setting for displaying your favorite game.

3) Dates in which they accomplished things

Date statistics would be interesting to see, and this could apply to various things, like:

  • the date your friend first started playing Poptropica (maybe even with a footnote for status of new player, old player, or somewhere in between)
  • the date they last played Poptropica (it’s good to know if an account has been inactive for a while)
  • the date they completed an island (or perhaps when they got each photo in their album, like photo timestamps)

4) A “birth” video

This is a small feature, but I think it would be cool to see what your friend’s character looked like when they first started playing – even before their first island photo or costume saved in a closet.

What did they look like fresh out of the box they popped out of when their account was made? That I’d like to know, and I think we should have a “birth video” on each friend profile to show us just that. You know, for the memories.

5) Knowing who friended you

As Perfect Sky mentioned in a post of hers, Pop 5: Features We’d Love in New Poptropica, one more feature that would be awesome would be to see who has friended you.

This would be cool because I can also friend those who’ve friended me back. Plus, I’ve got some big game achievements (like completing Early Poptropica about 500 times, and Shark Tooth about 100), and I want to know who gets to see it!

Well, that’s my list! What features do you want to see added in Poptropica Friends? Do you disagree with anything I said in this list? Let me know what you think in the comments below. Hope you have a great poppin’ day, and goodbye!

Going Back in Time: January’s IotMs

Hey there, Poptropicans!

It’s Happy Lobster here. So, a new month is kicking in, and what does that mean? Yet another month for the community to moan and groan about the overdue New Pop? Well, possibly, for those who feel like doing so … but it’s also time for another set of Islands of the Month!

The islands featured this January are Time Tangled Island and Arabian Nights. Looks like the Creators want us to visit some islands submerged in the past this time around.

As per usual with IotMs, Poptropica gives out the usual quota of extra credits for finishing IotMs: first-time finishers receive 500 credits for completing the islands in question, and repeat finishers receive 300 credits.

But Arabian Nights is not an normal island – it consists of three seperate episodes. So, how will the credits be distributed for finishers? Like for one of December’s IotMs, PoptropiCon (another episodic island), each episode gives out 500 and 300 credits for first-time finishers and re-players, respectively. So if you complete each episode for the first time, you can receive 1,500 credits! (It’s 900 for 1st-repeat finishers.) It’s about time you were rolling in credits.

Need help completing these islands? Well, Captain Crawfish has some video walkthroughs prepared for Arabian Nights, and is working on one Time Tangled’s walkthrough has been completed!

If you want written walkthroughs to assist you, you can always read the PHB’s guides to Time Tangled Island and Arabian Nights.

Well, that’s all for January’s IotMs. Make sure to hurry and earn those extra credits this month!

PoptropiCon Island

The Rise of Omegon’s Design

Hello, everyone!

It is I, Lucky Joker, and today I’ll be sharing with you a behind the scenes scoop on how Poptropica villain Omegon was created! As you may know, Omegon serves as the villain for one of December’s Islands of the Month, PoptropiCon Island.

Earlier today, Poptropica released some concept art of the different stages Omegon’s design went through to become what it is today. Let’s take a look! (For the original post, click here.)

Back in 2013, when Poptropolis Games Island was being updated, the Poptropica Creators designed tribal costumes (which were never used in the game). The Yellowjackets costume, however, was put into use and was modified to produce Omegon.

Omegon’s costume was then used to design the Hench-bot costume, and later the Meow-bot costume (which inspired Omegon’s final boss form). Compare between the concept art of Meow-bot and the final product. Pretty neat!

Omegon’s costume was also used to design many other costumes for the characters in the island. Check out these other designs!

The evolution of Omegon’s design occurred naturally, with many different Creators contributing to its creation. Some designs were scratched and brought back, and many small alterations were made to achieve the final look.

Former Poptropica creator, Lance Fry, even made this promotional piece showing some of the fully-developed designs.

Another Poptropica artist, Ashley Lange, came up with the Meow-bot designs and cohesively brought them together with the giant cat statues in Omegon’s realm. In the final boss fight, Omegon himself takes on the form of a giant robotic cat!

It’s pretty fascinating to know that all of the Creators work closely together on pretty much every aspect of an island. Here is Omegon’s visual development from start to finish:

Remember, PoptropiCon is an Island of the Month, so first-time finishers will receive 500 credits upon completion for each episode and repeat-finishers will receive 300 –That’s a lot of credits! Today is your last day to play, so go and take advantage of the credit boost.

Which designs were your favorite? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Thanks for reading, I’ll talk to you soon! Pop on!

Wimpy Wonderland Island

Animations from Wonderland that certainly aren’t Wimpy

Hello, everyone!

Lucky Joker here, sharing straight from the Creators’ Blog, some behind-the-scenes animations from Wimpy Wonderland Island, one of December’s Islands of the Month! Poptropica has released a few awesome designs and animations from when the island was in development – pretty cool, right?

Check out these notes on Manny’s design! (click here to view the notes up-close!)

Pretty interesting I must say, but definitely not as cool as these gems! Check out these animations for Manny, Rowley, Greg and Rodrick! (For best quality, see the post on the Creators’ Blog.)

It’s very eye-opening and intriguing to see all that is taken into consideration while making a Poptropica Island! What do you think about these behind the scenes animations?

Remember, Wimpy Wonderland is an Island of the Month, so first-time finishers will receive 500 credits upon completion and repeat-finishers will receive 300!

The usual members-only island is also available to everyone until January 2, 2017 (the same day the #MyPoptropicaCostume contest ends), so build up those credits before it’s too late!

Thanks for reading and have a Happy New Year, Poptropicans! If you haven’t already, be sure to check out our 2016 Rewind post below! May 2017 be popping! 🎉
