Popspiracy: Who is this suspicious scarred dude?

(Hey Poptropicans! This is a guest post by LillySparkle$, who also blogs with her friend Mia at Pop Blog. In this post, she’ll share a theory about an unknown character from a sneak peek! Please note that the thoughts below are imagined, and not to be taken as fact. Enjoy! –🐠)

Hello! I am Lilly, aka Maroon Jumper from the PopBlog, and I’ve got a theory about a character to share with you all. As you may recall, recently some new Pop Worlds-style preview pictures were added to the App Store description for the Poptropica app. This one, in particular, caught my eye:

Challenge Your Friends

There are many new characters here, as you can tell, but it’s the main guy – the largest one -who caught my eye. His overall appearance looks villainous, and he’s also completely new – never seen on Poptropica before (I asked around to make sure I hadn’t missed anything!).  He’s quite an intriguing character, so here are my thoughts on him:

  • He seems to be a villain (obviously). With his red scar, evil grin, excessive facial hair, it’s safe to say he’s up to no good.
  • He dresses the part, too. Layered in thick blue clothing and carrying a satchel. Thick layers could mean he is in a cold climate, which leads us to our next topic…

Where is he from? Well, since he is so layered, and perhaps he got his scar from some tragic accident, my guess is that he came from the mines.

If you haven’t caught on, I’m referring to Crisis Caverns, an island rumored to appear on Poptropica Worlds. It was supposed to come to Poptropica in early 2015, but has since been cancelled.

Anyway, my theory is that this man – let’s just call him, uh, Scar (wow. creative.) – well, he was a miner in the Caverns, when one day he was in an accident and got a horrible scar. He became obsessed with all the exquisite and rare jewels that the mine had to offer, and greedily wanted them for himself. He’s stolen a lot already, and continues to steal. That’s where you come in, having to stop his shenanigans.

This was the sneak peek that inspired my theory:

In her post showing these Crisis Caverns leaks, Perfect Sky theorizes that this could be the final place you visit in the mines. It could, and to me, it also looks like a hideout – possibly that of the evil, overgrown-facial-haired Scar.

Please note: I am only making these guesses on a couple of pictures and a poor imagination. 😂 For all I know, Scar could just be a costume and have nothing to do with Crisis Caverns at all.

That concludes my Popspiracy theory! Thank you guys so much for reading this! What do you guys think? Leave your thoughts in the comments!

Hope you enjoyed this guest post by LillySparkle$!

Galactic Hot Dogs Island

Grilled Cheese for Galactic Hot Dogs Island

Hey Poptropicans, it’s Slanted Fish, and today’s menu brings us grilled cheese and neon wieners! That’s right… it’s time for some Galactic Hot Dogs.

This weekend on the Creators’ Blog, while we were busy with our April Fools prank, Poptropica shared some behind-the-scenes goodies for Galactic Hot Dogs Island, as it was one of March’s Islands of the Month. Let’s take a look.

First, as they do with every island, the artists working on GHD Island had to follow a style guide to keep the overall look consistent as they created their creepy monsters and planetary paradises. As you can see below, this included using a thick black 2-point line on foreground objects (unique among the Poptropica islands), and a suggested font by the name of Grilled Cheese! Yum. Check it out below (click to enlarge):

Also, if you look closely at the stand-in character, he’s carrying an unused green bag that says “P-Con 2014,” along with a badge to match it. Probably an early prototype. What other interesting things did you find in there?

Anyway, after finalizing their designs, the next step for the artists was to test out the animations. We’re not able to embed them here on the PHB, but you can check out the little videos over on the Creators’ Blog post.

We also get to see this delightfully disgusting drawing of the zombie space pirate:

Neat-o. Well, that’s about all for the Earthly Cool Cats – uh, I mean Galactic Hot Dogs. GHD is no longer an Island of the Month – yes, we know we’re a little late on this news, but hey… so were the Creators. 😉

Anyway, as it’s Wimpy Kid Month, the current IOTMs are Wimpy Wonderland and Wimpy Boardwalk – which will be open to everyone for the month of April, so get on it!

Stay popping, Poptropicans!

Wimpy Boardwalk Island, Wimpy Wonderland Island

Don’t be such a wimp, ride that blimp to April’s IotMs!

We’re already done with the first quarter of 2017—time really flies when you’re getting pranked, eh? With April Fools’ past us, we can say that a new month has dawned on Poptropica—that means we’ll be having a new pair of islands featured as the Islands of the Month (IotM)!

In celebration of the Wimpy Kid Month on Poptropica, comes this month’s IotMs: Wimpy Wonderland and Wimpy Boardwalk!

wimpy2017

You might wonder why we celebrate Wimpy Kid Month every April, and it’s—of course—to celebrate the time when the first Diary of a Wimpy Kid book was published in 2007 (April 1, to be exact). To also note that, like Poptropica, it’s also celebrating it’s 10th anniversary this year! As you all know, Poptropica and Diary of a Wimpy Kid are both created by Jeff Kinney. Seriously awesome.

You may also recall that Wimpy Wonderland was recently an IotM for December, but who cares? It’s cool to see it open to all for a while now, so make sure to stock up on the credits before they close again!

Skinny Moon also shared the video walkthroughs by Captain Crawfish, so make sure to watch those if you need any help getting through the IotMs! If you would prefer a written guide, the PHB has them as well! Check out the guide for Wimpy Boardwalk here and for Wimpy Wonderland here.

Just so you know, first-time finishers of the island will receive whopping 500 credits and repeat finishers will get a bountiful 300 credits for replaying the islands!

Also, make sure to check out the Diary of a Wimpy Kid’s Giveaway Calendar! They’re giving away lots of prizes (signed books, tote bags, and etc.) all month long! If you would like to grab some, make sure to participate!

What are you waiting for? Go and play these not-so-wimpy islands now! Staaaay awesome.

PopFeedz: Just a Prank, Bro!

April Fools, Poptropicans!

Yesterday, on April Fools Day, the PHB announced PopFeedz, a new site promising pure Poptropica entertainment, named as the PHB’s “cooler cousin” for abandoning the PHB’s typical posting style in favor of fun web trends like clickbait titles and the most random personality quizzes, gifs, listicles, cute animal pics, more. Well, as many of you guessed, it was just an April Fools prank: we’re not actually planning to turn the PHB into another Buzzfeed.

Many of you caught onto our joke, although we did manage to fool some of you. 😜 Either way, we hope you enjoyed exploring the PopFeedz site we put together! If you missed it, or want to relive it, the site will remain available at popfeedz.wordpress.com – so enjoy!

popfeedz layout

The PHB team worked hard to put everything together, combining ideas and being inspired by each other. Lucky Joker even put up a new quiz about PopGum after we had announced the site! A sketch from Brave Tomato made its way into the post about Skinny Moon – which, if you haven’t figured out yet, is just our imagination, and not a real interview. 😉

As the team was coming up with ideas for what to do for this year’s prank, we kept thinking we wanted to do something about Poptropica Worlds, which was tricky since we still don’t know much about it. However, Slippery Raptor had the idea of turning the PHB into a “PHB 2.0,” just as Worlds is a New Poptropica – and from there, it took off!

The name PopFeedz is, of course, inspired by Buzzfeed, a popular entertainment website with all sorts of fun time-wasters. The content of PopFeedz is similarly inspired, particularly with quizzesmemes, and an overall style of clickbait titles and concise text. Of course, everything is adapted to Poptropica, such as Spotted Dragon’s “You Will NOT Believe What’s In These Behind-the-Scenes Sketches…” playing on our own concerns about what might happen with Poptropica Worlds, but with a humorous intent. And as a reference to the shiny Worlds art we’ve been seeing, we even threw in a little parody of the hit song “Shiny” from the recent Disney film Moana in our announcement post.

Pets of Poptropica is inspired by some of Skinny Moon’s latest social media posts, not only about her pup Toby, but also her call to post pictures of pets on social media with the hashtag #PetsOfPoptropica. A few of us had pets (both past and present), so we started a pets series on PopFeedz! Here’s a look at my betta fish, Biscotti, staring at my Poptropican on the computer screen:

Because these articles were enjoyed so much, we hope to re-publish a few of them here on the PHB over the next few weeks, so they can be enjoyed by even more readers, who might have missed them on PopFeedz. However, some of them will remain exclusive to PopFeedz since they are more suitable there, so be sure to check them out.

On April 1, PopFeedz received over 1,600 visits to the site, and we heard from many of you about how much you liked it! We even received this complimentary message from the one and only Skinny Moon:

sm comment prank

As always, the team here at the PHB is grateful for your continued support and readership, and we’d like to think PopFeedz was one fun way to celebrate that fact. The Poptropica Help Blog is here to stay, so stay popping, Poptropicans! 😜✌️
