Poptropican Meme Face Mondays: The Grand Finale

Heyyo Poptropicans, it’s Ultimate iPad Expert here.

TimeToStop.gif

That’s right. Welcome everyone to Round 70, the grand finale of PMFM (Poptropican Meme Face Mondays)!

PMFMTheGrandFinale.png

PMFM has lasted 17 months, with 70 rounds (plus a couple of specials) and a whopping 250+ meme faces (if you include birthday memes and others – 213 if you don’t). It’s honestly kind of crazy at this point.

Really, as cheesy as it is, I couldn’t have made PMFM what it has been without all of you. All of the readers, commenters, and especially those who asked for meme faces: you kept this going.

My mission for this series has been to bring a little fun and happiness to everyone. And whether or not PMFM achieved this for you personally, I appreciate all the support it’s gotten that has has helped keep it alive for so long.

But as we all know, everything must come to an end at some point, whether we like it or not. And so, in case you hadn’t picked up on the word finalePMFM is officially over. But that is not all…

Just over two years ago, I made my first post here on the PHB after a set of unexpected events. This brought about something in my life. It began a new chapter. Although I had been in the community before, I’d never been quite as involved up until then. Here, where there were so many great people, I met many who, to this day, are some of my best friends.

But now we’re here. In just two years, I’ve watched authors come and leave. I’ve watched a lot of change in the community, for both good and bad. Yet regardless of flaws, I still love this community.

That said, the time has come for me to leave this community.

There are plenty of reasons I can give, but primarily, I’m just not the same person anymore. I suppose there’s an aspect of “growing up” that is bringing me to this place. I’m learning to drive, I have a couple of job interviews this week, I’m going to nationals for debate, I’ve been improving my health greatly, and I also get to vote this year. All new to me.

This isn’t to say I don’t like Poptropica or the community, or that I think it’s just for kids or anything. I still love Poptropica and this community. I still love so many of the great people. I’m just not the same person I was.

So it’s time for me to move on. After today, I’m leaving the PHB, the PHC, and basically just leaving the community as a whole. I’m sure I’ll stop by occasionally, but for all intents and purposes, I’ll be gone. I hate to make it so sudden, but this is just how it’s going to be.

I wish luck to the community, the PHB, whatever deserved author replaces me here, and to everyone who reads this message. You have all forever made a mark in my life which will never leave me. You’ll be in my prayers. Thank you.

And with that, Meme King out. 👑

Home Island

The new theater showings may make you fidget more…

Hey Poptropicans! First of all: Happy Easter! 🐣🐣 Poptropica Worlds has yet to be risen, but in the meantime, the Movie Theater is here to be resurrected from your forgotten memories…

We’ll get to the news after Poptropica’s Easter bunny, Dr. Hare, does his hoopy dance. 🐇

Preludes are ridonkulous and I should just get to the point? Okay, okay…

The Movie Theater on Home Island (both online and on the mobile app) has been updated with some new videos, including the following (as noted on the Creators’ Blog):

  • 😎 Schaeffer McLean — See this 12-year-old skateboarder go on awesome adventures
  • 😁 Batman Unlimited — Watch as Batman swings into action to save Gotham City
  • 🤓 eScape — Check out this science fiction, video game-based adventure
  • 😂 Fidgetmore —  Giggle with this animated series starring Fidgetmore School’s teenagers

There is something else that they haven’t mentioned: each video is now preluded by a 15-second ad for the Nickelodeon series Hunter Street, and there doesn’t seem to be a way to escape it. It’s unnecessary to see it over and over again, and I strongly urge Poptropica to change this so it doesn’t need to be viewed more than once.

The lineup for the theater videos has also changed a little, with the Types of Teachers one at the forefront, and it no longer autoplays (although the prelude ad does). This is an improvement from the PHB’s last post about the theater, and I even mentioned that being one of the better videos, so it’s great to see that recognized! However, I still hope to see more improvement with regards to categorization of the videos to make it easier to find something tailored to each person’s tastes and demographic.

Anyway, what do you think of the new videos and changes to the theater? What kinds of videos would you like to see? Comment here with your thoughts! The Creators like hearing feedback from the players, so remember that your input matters. 😉

Stay popping!

My Place in Poptropica

My Place in Poptropica: Torterrified

This is the My Place in Poptropica story of Torterrified, or Hyper Eel, who has had a Poptropica song stuck in her head for years, has been playing on and off, and now has her own Poptropica blogSee below for how to send in your own MPIP!

2007 | Poptropica Party

It all started at my best friend’s birthday party. All of my friends were surrounding the desktop playing Poptropica, but I was playing Pokémon Diamond. They told me to come check it out, so I did, but I thought it looked stupid. The only game on the computer I was interested in at the time was Club Penguin.

But since I had nobody to play with, I decided to just give it a try. I sat down and made an account by the name of Scary Peanut, who had unkempt hair and buck teeth. I giggled at how ridiculous she looked, and since I didn’t know how to change it, I jumped straight into the blimp.

I landed on Early Poptropica and found all the missing items, but I didn’t know you had to talk to the NPCs at the end, so I exited the game without saving my account.

Then I forgot about it… until a few years later.

2010–2014 | Reignited

I had lost interest in Poptropica after that day, but that changed when I saw saw someone at school playing Wimpy Wonderland Island.

At the time, Diary of a Wimpy Kid was one of my favourite book series. Feeling inspired, I logged back into my Scary Peanut account, and this time, I completed all the islands. I finally figured out how to finish Early Poptropica, too!

Yet, even after finishing all the islands and getting a membership, I still felt… bored. Less people were in the common rooms, and islands were taking more time than usual to come out. But I didn’t want to give up on this game just yet.

So I entered ‘Poptropica’ into my search bar to see if there was anything left to do, and that’s when I saw it: the Poptropica Help Blog. I clicked the link and was amazed. From that moment on, I’d check this website every day, and even joined the PHC Xat and met some awesome people, who I’m still friends with to this day. 😉

I was in the community for a few years back then, until the arrival of SUIs (sound-updated islands). I wasn’t a fan of the bigger screens, music and glitchy controls, so I decided to quit. Still, there was always this weird feeling in the back of my head.

2017 | Nostalgia

I realised that the weird feeling was a song. I had no idea where it was from, but I remembered a few notes from it. I spent months looking through soundtracks of all the games I played as a kid until I finally remembered: it was from Poptropica!

Wanting to get back into the game, I quickly registered an account with the name Hyper Eel, with the username Torterrified. I was shocked to see that Poptropica would soon turn into Poptropica Worlds. Nonetheless, I played through every island until I finally found the song: it was Fiona’s violin melody from Ghost Story Island. I admit, I nearly cried. This song has held a special place in my heart for years now.

I’ve also recently decided to pick up Poptropica blogging. You can check out my site here: hypereelspoptropicablog.wordpress.com. Thanks for reading!

Hope you enjoyed this “My Place in Poptropica” story!

If you haven’t already, we invite you to send in your own (please include a minimum of 550 words, type with good spelling and grammar, divide it into labeled sections, and include your username). If you send in your story, we will continue to post new community MPIPs!

Today Only: Wimpy Kid / Poptropica Flash Giveaway!

Hey guys! SD here with some flashy news!

giveaway

Today and today only, Poptropica has teamed up with Abrams, the publishing house of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books, to bring a cool giveaway to us.

As you may know, the Wimpy Kid inspired islands are April’s Islands of the Month and that of course is because April is Wimpy Kid Month! Right now, these islands are open to everyone, not just members as they usually are the rest of the year – so take advantage of that while you can! 😉

But more on this giveaway, right? By entering on WimpyKid.com today (April 12), you might just be able to win a Poptropica-Wimpy Kid prize pack! In this pack, you’ll get:

  • A 6-month membership to Poptropica.
  • Copies of Cabin Fever and Dog Days, the books that inspired the Wimpy Kid Poptropica games.
  • The first three books of the NYT bestselling Poptropica graphic novel series: Mystery of the Map, The Lost Expedition, and The Secret Society.
  • A Dr. Hare plush toy.

To enter, go to the Wimpy Kid Giveaway page and click on the 12, which is today’s date. Just fill in the information, and you’ve entered! But if you’re under the age of 18, remember to get a parent or guardian’s permission first. 😛

If you’re a huge Wimpy Kid fan, the site is having other giveaways this month too, but this one is currently the only Poptropica-related one, so you better act fast, Poptropicans! Good luck to everyone! 😀

In other news, the PHB is sad to announce the departure of one of our staff writers, Perfect Sky. PS leaves us with a brief word, posted below:

The main reason I made this decision is because I just don’t have enough time to keep up with blogging and everything that’s going on in the community. With other priorities in real life, I don’t think I’ll have time for everything here, nor will I have the time to start my own blog.

I haven’t necessarily lost interest in Poptropica itself – while there are definitely recent updates with the game that I’ve been disappointed by, I’m sure I’ll still log on to Pop occasionally and replay classic islands in the future. After all, it’s hard to immediately totally forget about a game you’ve had over 9 years of memories with.

For now, you can still find me on Discord and Twitter, and I’ll continue to read and support blogs in the Poptropica community.

In addition to her blogging endeavors, PS is also known among the community for her super creative Poptropica movies, which you can find on her YouTube channel, PoptropicaPerfectSky. You will be missed around here, Perfect Sky! ✨

Poptropica Book 3: The Secret Society is Unveiled!

Hey Poptropicans! Slanted Fish here, and the time has come for The Secret Society of Poptropica to be unveiled! Just what are they up to with their complex compass tattoos and their capturing of Jorge, Mya, and Oliver?

Find out in Poptropica: The Secret Society, the third book in the graphic novel series, which has just dropped! You can now get it in stores, on a mobile device, or, if you’ve pre-ordered it, it should soon be sent to your address. Look out for the bright green!

(picture credit: Daniel Lazar, @DanLazarAgent on Twitter)

If you’re buying it on Amazon (which ships worldwide), the current price for the book is US$7.51, not including shipping, and pricing in digital formats may vary.

Anyway, it’s super exciting to see the book finally released, as I’m sure a lot of hard work went into planning, creating, and publicizing such a big project! I, along with others on the PHB team, hope to have the chance to read it soon, and we’ll let you guys know what we think right here on the blog. (Yes, it’s a middle-grade book, but Poptropica fans of all ages should be excited!)

Over on the Creators’ Blog, Captain Crawfish went ahead and “interviewed” the book’s author, Mitch Krpata, “by phone.” Or is he interviewing himself… since Mitch is probably Captain Crawfish?? Hmmm. In case you missed it, Mitch also did an interview with the PHB earlier, which you can read over here! (#ShamelessPlug)

Anyway, you can read the full CC vs. MK interview on the Creators’ Blog, but I’ll include some of the more interesting parts below.

About The Secret Society

CC: Obviously we don’t want to spoil the story for readers, but what will be different about this book? How have the kids changed?

MK: The Secret Society explains more about the history and purpose of Poptropica. It also starts to pit the kids against each other a little bit. As they learn more about the mysterious organization, they find themselves disagreeing about the group’s motives and actions. There’s still a ton of action and peril, but now there’s tension between the kids about the right way and the wrong way to do things. The Lost Expedition was more of a pure survival story.

CC: Speaking of which, what about Captain Franklin and the crew of the HMS Terror? What happened to them?

MK: [diabolical laughter, devolving into a coughing fit]

…and there’s even a little something about Poptropica Worlds!

CC: Switching gears a bit. Poptropica players are on the edge of their seats waiting to play Poptropica Worlds. You’ve been hard at work on it. What can you tell us about it?

[…]

MK: We’ve still got big island quests with lots of characters, challenges, and plot twists. That hasn’t changed. But now we’ve got new features that make the quests more accessible to new players and that help returning players get back up to speed. The islands aren’t necessarily easier, but we’re giving players more tools to finish them.

Plus, we’re building tons of new stuff from the ground up, including a lot of things that Poptropicans have been requesting for years — like your own customizable house. It’s a brand-new game that is still unmistakably Poptropica.

And now for the Q&A we’ve all been waiting for…

CC: When can we expect to play Poptropica Worlds?

MK: What’s that? Couldn’t hear you. Bad connection.

Thanks, guys. 😂 I think we’ve figured that one out.

Read the rest of the wonderfully humorous interview here!

That’s not all! Poptropica is also doing a giveaway to celebrate, in which one lucky random winner will win all 3 Poptropica graphic novels, plus a 3-month Poptropica membership!

To enter, just head over to their Facebook page (@OfficialPoptropica) and click on the “Giveaway” tab on the left. Then, click the buttons to visit Poptropica on their various social networks for chances to enter up to 5 times. If you don’t have a Facebook, you can ask a parent or someone you know to help you enter.
