Community Celebrity: Lucky Wing

community celeb lw

Hello, everyone — Lucky Joker here, and welcome to Community Celebrities!

Community Celebrities is a PHB series where people of the Poptropica community get to be in the spotlight for their involvement and activity in the community, by being interviewed here on the PHB so fellow Poptropicans can get to know them a bit more.

Please welcome Lucky Wing! You may know her as a frequent commenter here on the PHB, or as an active member of our Discord chat, the PHC. You might even recall her blog, Lucky Wing’s blog o’ fun, being nominated for best fan site in last year’s Poppies Awards.

Anyway, I recently had the chance to interview her, so you all can get to know her. Let’s get into it!

Welcome, Lucky Wing! Can you introduce yourself to everyone?

Erm… Hi! I’m Lucky Wing, also known as Lucky, or E! I’m about 16 and three-quarters years old. I have a blog, Lucky Wing’s blog o’ fun, and a YouTube channel under the name Lucky Wing.

How and when did you find the Poptropica Community?

I’ve been in the community—oh, how long has it been?—wow… I think two and a half years—I feel old now! XD

found the PHB sometime in August of 2015. I remember checking it sometime in October, but I didn’t actually comment until December. I think I officially joined the community in January 2016. I started uploading YouTube videos that March, and started blogging in October! Oh gosh, my 2-year anniversary for YouTube is coming up. I’d better get on that…

Which island is your favorite? Which is your least favorite?

Choosing a favorite is tough… I really liked Mystery Train and Counterfeit, and I enjoy randomly playing Reality TV sometimes. I also like Astro-Knights. Even though it was hard, I loved the storyline.

I didn’t like Skullduggery, even though it’s my brother’s favorite and we usually agree on these things. It just took forever, and I misread prices. (21 Skullduggery videos later…)

Who is your favorite villain in Poptropica?

This one’s no secret: Dr. Hare! Cute fuzzy bunny FTW!

What is your opinion on Poptropica Worlds so far?

I need more islands! Besides that, I do like it… even though the hands and the mole people are weird… nch. Those are a few of my complaints, minus the obvious “Where is my costumizer and friend list?”

What is your dream island?

Well, that’s a tough one! I’ve been dreaming up an island ever since I found out about the Create Your Island contest that was held a few years ago. Unfortunately, I was too late to participate in it.

I’ve always wanted to have an island where I’d have a companion that was crucial to the plot. I’m still in the process of writing it up now, so keep an eye out for that!

What are some of your real-life hobbies?

Writing, drawing, acting, more writing and drawing and acting, reading, crocheting, knifty knitting (it’s different than normal knitting; I can’t knit), singing poorly, YouTubing, blogging, being with my friends, playing video games, and making not-too-shabby music! I have a pretty crazy, fun resume. XD

Anything else you’d like to say to the Poptropica community?

Yes. You guys are the best! If I didn’t have you guys, I don’t know where I’d be. I’m so glad I found this community because I’ve met some of my dearest friends here. So dear, you guys feel like family! I don’t regret the plunge I took all those years ago, to try and come out of my shell a little bit.

I’d like to personally thank TC, Vampi, Fierce Flyer, Smart Flame, Red Rider, Friendly Foot, Shrimpy, Anne, Binary Hawk, Lucky Joker, Popular Wolf, Sporty Boa, Purple Claw, G-Hopper, and Kix (though she’s not technically in the community). You guys are part of my digital family and I really do love this place! If I didn’t write your name, I still love you; I was just in a hurry.

Poptropica was my childhood, and now it’s my life. Thank you all for being part of it! Lucky Wing signing out, bai guys!

A big thanks to Lucky Wing for taking the time to do this interview with me. I really enjoyed what she had to say, and I hope everyone else did too!

Well, that’s it for now. Thanks for reading, as always! Talk to you in the next one.

My Place in Poptropica

My Place in Poptropica: Red Tomato

This is the My Place in Poptropica story of Red Tomato, who became addicted to Poptropica to the level of OCD, and now writes fanfics and blogs at The SplatSee below for details on how to send in your MPIP story for publication here on the PHB!

mpip rt

Everyone is doing these MPIPs, it seems… so being the writer I am, I guess I’ll try too.

2016 | An Addiction, and OCD

Well, it all started in the lovely year of 2016 (cue angelic music) when I noticed a boy playing a computer game in class. I took a look at what he was playing. He was controlling a little stick figure hopping around on things. The stick figure had an oval shaped head with big eyes, and the body was a round circle. He said he was playing Poptropica.

When I got home that day, I looked up the game and soon created an avatar. The name it first gave me was Shaky Scorpion!!! I quickly clicked the “change name” button, and it gave me Red Tomato. I was ok with that one, so I started playing. The first island I completed was Monkey Wrench (of course, I was a noob) and the second, 24 Carrot.

Pretty soon, I’d finished a lot of islands and was totally addicted. I played all the time. Then, I was diagnosed with OCD, and with that, I was off to special treatment in a different city for two months. During that time, I didn’t play Pop at all.

2017 | Into the fandom

A few weeks after I came back, I found an old video of me playing Poptropica. Inspired to pick it up again, I logged back in and, after recovering from some nostalgia, I played for hours and soon became addicted again.

When Pop Worlds came out, I was kinda disappointed with what it had to offer. But I did manage to complete Crisis Caverns, 24 Carrot, and all 40 levels of Dr. Hare’s Revenge! Still, I spent most of my time on Pop Original (and I played other games that weren’t Poptropica, too).

One day, I stumbled across the Poptropica Help Blog. I enjoyed commenting on all the great posts, and even participated in a party on their chat server, the PHC! That was the 2017 Holiday Party. Anyway, I became a pretty active member of this community, and I’m still playing the game to this day.

I even took my love of the game and used it to write a fanfiction I called The Bond of Joeseph and Claudia Stockman, which is about the shaky bond between two black-haired siblings. (Joeseph lives on Virus Hunter Island—you may remember him as Patient Zero—and Claudia lives on Counterfeit.) I am also planning to write an ongoing series called Red Tomato and the Search for Pink Bunny and Gray Kitten.

I also draw fanart, though I’m not a very good artist. You can also find the original version of this post on my Poptropica blog, The Splat!

And that is “My Place In Poptropica.”

Discuss: What Islands do you want to explore on Poptropica?

island ideas
original artwork by @SimplyArtbyAlly

Hey Poptropicans!

With the recent arrival of 2018 (and a goodbye to 2017), we’re looking forward to what Poptropica has in store for us antsy adventurers this new year. So we’re asking the question to all of you: What Islands do you want to explore on Poptropica?

Now, unlike the Create Your Own Dream Island contest Poptropica held back in 2013 that brought us Arabian Nights Island, we can’t promise anything to happen from your ideas. Instead, we just want to offer this as a space to discuss your island ideas, hear from others, and leave thoughts and feedback for each other!

Personally, I would love to see more islands inspired by aspects of globalization we haven’t seen before, or much of, in the game. This includes more diversity in representation of geographical regions (I’m especially partial to Asia, being from this corner of the world), cultural traditions (such as Native American culture), and even religious mythology (an island on Greek mythology is one of Poptropica’s most popular, but why don’t we also explore our contemporary stories valued by large populations of the globe, like those of Hinduism, Buddhism, or the Abrahamic faiths?).

The world is a rich place, full of stories, and we might not be able to get them all. But if Poptropica is a starting place for many young people, wouldn’t it be amazing if they got to experience a taste of even more places, people, and stories from around the world? In our increasingly globally-connected age, “around the world” may only be around the corner, and a Poptropican who understands their neighbors’ cultures makes for a better neighbor, which is why these are the types of islands I would love to see on Poptropica.

These are a couple of maps I created for the post PHB Special: World Geography with Poptropica Islands, in which I considered where in the world Poptropica Islands took place.

But what do you think? What island creations have you been cooking up in your mind? Are you inspired by certain fandoms, friends, legends, places you’ve been, or places you dream of visiting? What if you combine some ideas together? Ponder that and tell us…

What Islands do YOU want to explore on Poptropica?

A new author flying in: Fierce Flyer

Hello everyone, Fierce Flyer here!

muuuuuuuuuuu4
add me: muuuuuuuuuuu4

As you can tell by the title, I’m the newest author to join the Poptropica Help Blog. I’m extremely honored to have been asked to join the team, and would like to make the most of this wonderful opportunity.

I go by Fierce Flyer, or Fierce for short (but I promise that doesn’t mean I’m mean! 😛 ). I’m a teen (13 years old!) who loves drawing, writing, sports and reading. You may know me from my Poptropica blog, Fierce Flyer Adventures (FFA) or from my presence on Discord servers such as the PHC. You can add me on Poptropica with the username: muuuuuuuuuuu4 (yep, I know that’s a lot of u’s).

I first got into Poptropica thanks to my older sister, who would always get back from school and hop onto the computer, where my brother and I would quickly pull up a chair to watch her conquer the Islands. So many fond memories brought me back to the game about a year and a half ago. Since then, I began blogging with Fierce Flyer Adventures. Throughout this time I met amazing people, became familiar with the Poptropica community, and found a bunch of friends.

If you’d like to know more about me, you can check out my “My Place in Poptropica” (MPIP) story and/or my blog. You can also reach me via Twitter (@FierceFlyer55) and Discord, both of which I use frequently!

Once more, thank you to the PHB staff for giving me this opportunity, which I’m truly grateful and excited for. I’ll try my hardest to bring quality and entertaining posts to the Poptropica community. I can’t wait to begin!!

Community Creations: December 2017

community-creations-logo

Hello once again everyone! Spotted Dragon here bringing you the December recap for Community Creations! December’s theme was winter/holidays and the featured work is not in any particular order. Be sure to check out all the featured artists!

No clue what’s going on? Go see our intro post.

Top 5 Picks

Marooned by happyclonetrooper

happyclonetrooper - Marooned

Haha, get it? The Poptropican’s name is Maroon Ring and she’s lost (marooned)… Anyone? No? Well I thought the title was clever and to top it off, her outfit was an old costume contest entry! The drawing was inspired by another artist’s Drawcember prompt set, specifically a snow/ice setup. The lighting is wonderful and everything gives off a strong winter vibe. Super soft and cool! Find her DeviantArt here.

Santa Claus by Tough Sky

Tough Sky - Santa Clause

This festive costume is dazzling! It’s a perfect image of good ol’ St. Nick and the lights entangling him simply add to his holiday spirit. And I’m curious about that scar… Sledding accident perhaps? Whatever the cause may be, this outfit for sure represents this snowy season. Super cool! Frequently find Tough Sky in the comment section.

Blue Ice by Sporty Boa

Sporty Boa - Blue Ice

Introducing… Blue Ice! A wicked new winter villain! Born on Astro-Knight’s bone-chilling Ice Planet, her backstory is one of cold hearts and harsh motives. Read more about her and other villains here! Not only is this a stylish design, but the attention to origin story definitely gives this drawing some bonus points. Cool concept! (Am I allowed to use the same pun twice? Whoops!) Find SB’s blog here.

Happy Holidays by CrazyPaintBursh

CrazyPaintbrush - Happy Holidays

Super cute! I love the attention to each villain’s winter outfit. Everyone shows a unique emotion and the colors are bright and cheerful. Each outfit fits the villain’s personality perfectly and are all great for the cold season. Gives me positive, family-fun feelings. Amazing holiday card! Find her DeviantArt here.

The Gift of the Poptropican by SuperGrape1

Once upon a time, in a world known as Poptropica, it was the night before Christmas, and all of the Poptropicans in Poptropica were celebrating with holiday cheer. However, meanwhile on Home Island, a Poptropican named Super Grape is seen sitting on a couch inside her house, and she seems to be stressing out about something, and all throughout the house, not a creature is stirring not even a mouse. Suddenly, a fireplace is seen nearby the couch that Super Grape is sitting on, and all of the stockings are hung by the chimney with care. Anyway, the reason that Super Grape was stressing out was that it was Christmas Eve, and the next day it would be Christmas morning, and she had forgotten to get a Christmas present for her boyfriend Incredible Wing. What am I going to do, I have to buy Incredible Wing a Christmas gift at the last minute and all of the stores are going to be closed for Christmas, Super Grape thought as she starts to panic… READ MORE

A classic Christmas tale! A well known holiday plot line is one in which two people give up things they deeply care about in order to buy a loved one a present. Spoiler though! Both gifts closely relate to each object the person gave up and so are both ultimately pointless. Super Grape’s story has lots of similarities to this plot, so it may seem nostalgic to many readers. Buying gifts is a struggle almost everyone can relate to and it’s portrayed well throughout this narrative. Find her DeviantArt here.

Honorable Mentions

Wonderful entries as always everyone! 2017 has been an… eventful year to say the least, but I always have a blast seeing your creations! I hope you had a great holiday season and I hope you have an even greater 2018! 😀

January: How do I participate?

Community Creations is a cool series for anyone in the Poptropica community to join in on. To sum up what it’s about, it’s basically a chance to show off your artwork, creepy fan-fic, realms, costumes, and anything else that pops into your mind.

If we really like the piece you submit, we will feature it here on the PHB! As long as it relates to that month’s theme. So what is January’s theme? January’s theme is…

CROSSOVERS!

People often say “new year, new me,” right? Well with Poptropica Worlds, it’s kinda like we have a whole new Poptropica! But across our community, we share many other interests and fandoms too. So why not celebrate that in this new year with something… new?

Head over heels for a TV show? Draw the characters as Poptropicans! Totally in love with another videogame? Write about that universe as a Poptropica Island! Dying to tell everyone you know about a certain novel? Create costumes for the characters in Poptropica! The possibilities are endless, so try mashing up all your favorite fandoms!

  • Submitting: Comment below with a link to whatever you’ve created OR share it with me (SydVC aka Spotted Dragon) on DeviantArtTwitter, or Discord.
  • Results: I will feature 5 of the submissions as well as 3 honorable mentions.
  • Limitations: Nothing NSFW, and make sure you relate to the theme.
  • Due Date: I will take any entries before the end of this month. Submit as many things as you’d like!

I will always be sure to let you know I have seen your creation. Bonus points if you make a compelling description for your piece! While quality counts, I’m mainly looking for something to simply catch my eye, so don’t be afraid to join in!

So what are you waiting for? Go make something awesome!
