What’s popping, Poptropicans? This week’s Daily Pops seem to be strongly hinting at an island (or ad, or adventure of some sort) based on the Poptropica graphic novel (Mystery of the Map) – the origin story we’ve been looking forward to. Check them out:
Basket Case: What a deflating voyage.
Collapse: Jared Diamond might have something to say about this.
Downfall: Don’t go chasing these things.
There’s the crashed hot air balloon, along with other natural scenes that seem to fit in with what we’ve seen so far. Perhaps the three-deckered cave is a multiplayer common room?
Plus, the Vikings and dodo bird sneak peek from last week most likely fits in with this “island”ย as well: inย the most recent Mystery of the Map (MotM) page, the bird makes its first appearance.
Belowย are the most recent MotM pages (click to enlarge images). To keep up with each day’s new page, bookmark the Poptropica graphic novel site area! We’ll be posting them on the PHB every so often, but not necessarily daily, so check the official site to stay theย most up-to-date. ๐
Lastly, there’s an ad (girls only!)ย for Disney’s TinkerBell and the Legend of the NeverBeast (I found it on Poptropolis Games). Inside, you can collect a free NeverBeast Follower, feed the NeverBeast by clicking the catapult, customize from the dummies (although other than fairy wings, their costumes don’t seem to be loading), read a synopsis, watch a trailer, and meet other players (it’s a common room).
Hey Poptropicans – pages 8 and 9 of Mystery of the Mapย are here, which you can read below. To stay up-to-date with theย series, you can read every page on Poptropica’s official graphic novel site area!
Looks like an interesting story so far! ๐
Over on the Daily Pop, many of the sneak peeks this month have been for the upcoming final episode of Arabian Nights – but in the mix is this character sheet for a bunch of Vikings (and what appears to be a dodo bird). Could this be for something entirely new?ย As Tiny Socks points out, this looks like it could be for an adventure (island? ad?)ย based on the graphic novel, since we’ve previously seen these characters in Mystery of the Map sneak peeks like this one or this one.
Norse Code: You won’t be liking these Vikings.
Just for fun: the PHB’s Daily Pop Sneak Peek Archive is a great place to peruse every single Daily Pop image and witty caption from over the years. ๐
And finally, here’s the latest selection of featured Realmstweeted by Poptropica: a colosseum and house design by “ST”! They’re also interested in seeing (and sharing) fan videos of Realms like these.
Hey Poptropicans – the thirdย page of Poptropica’s new graphic novel series, Mystery of the Map, is here, and you can read it below (or on the Creators’ Blog, where they’ll be posting new pages daily).
Wow. The kids are about to enter the whimsical world of Poptropica, but what could the sinister Octavianย have dragged them in for?
If you missed the beginning, you can catch up on yesterday’s post,ย or the new graphic novel page on Poptropica’s website, which also offers this blurb about the series:
Mystery of the Map is the first entry in Poptropica’s epic graphic novel series. A freak thunderstorm during a hot air balloon ride rips brother and sister Oliver and Mya and their companion, Jorge, from the “normal” world to the dangerous, unpredictable, and mystical world of Poptropica. The kids embark on a perilous journey to discover the truth about this mysterious place… and the shocking reason they were brought here.
The first Poptropica graphic novel will be released in daily installments on Poptropica.com and social media. Readers will be able to follow Mya, Oliver and Jorge’s adventures, with each entry bringing exciting plot turns and new revelations.
Balloons and balloon animals alike are features of the Poptropica comics, and regarding an earlier sneak peek of the latter, it looks like the Creators are still messing around with balloon animals… but angrier. Not so cute anymore, huh?
And finally, have you noticed the new Realms banner on the Poptropica homepage?ย Congratulations to Speedy Pelican, Creepy Pear, Bronze Singer, Cuddly Knuckle, Spotted Fox, and Fast Lizard for having their creations featured! ๐
In the spirit of Realms, here’s today’s batch of creations tweeted by Poptropica. A treehouse with a basement, a smoky factory with a truck, and a windmill with a dragon… yup, they really are nailing it.
For more about Realms and its many world-building features, check out our Poptropica Realms Guide! Stay popping, Poptropicans. ๐
Hey Poptropicans! If you head on over to Main Streets right now, there’s a new ad for the new Dreamworks movie Penguins of Madagascar (I found it onย Mythology Island). Click on it to receive the Penguin Power! (thanks toย ~Anime_Cookie~ย for the adย alert!)
Pressing the space bar will make your characterย equip a handheldย bag of Cheezy Dibbles (delicious) and a big penguin will pop up on the screen for a moment. You’ll retainย the snack bag after the effect.
Next in news, here’s a recap of the Daily Pops for this week, as well asย some from the upcoming week that have already been uploaded to Poptropica’s servers. Most seemย to be for Episode 3 of Arabian Nights, and the “Dig Deep” one with the miners might be for the hinted-atย underground cave island.
On the Level: Let’s table the discussion for now.
Sweet Dreams: Somebody still needs to make the bed.
Royals: We are the sultans of swing.
Looking Glass: Seven years’ bad luck if you break it.
Also, for you Twitterersย out there, it looks like Poptropica’s account is starting to hit its following limit – so they’ve started unfollowing some accounts (don’t worry, it’s nothing personal!). They suggest following them back to ensure you’re not one of the accounts they stop following.
@Meraito Would help if you'd follow us back. More people want us to follow them than Twitter allows. So we have to make choices. ๐
Finally, hope you’re having a lovely weekend! Just recently, the PHB celebrated Valentine’s Day with a pink-ified site layout, which you can see below if you missed it. Plus, PHB author Brave Tomato drew some fanart for one of Poptropica’s best love stories: Fiona and Valiant of Ghost Story Island!
Don’t forget to be awesome, and stay popping, Poptropicans.
Preface: this post has been setting in drafts for months, and while the idea was there, I didn’t have a strong enough theory. I’ve discovered something since then, and it may just change the history of Poptropica forever. The President of Poptropica recently stated that they were going to be releasing an origin story of Poptropica soon… and this may tap into that story. It’s a really big thing to explain, so I’m splitting this into parts. Come back soon for part 2! ๐
Something occurred to me the other day – Time Tangled Island never had dinosaurs! One of the most iconic and one of the first islands there ever was, Time Tangled had time periods from nearly all the eras – except one of the most importantย eras of all — the dinosaur era! Doesn’t that seem a bit strange?
But that’s not the end of it. An old Daily Pop has even more evidence that a Dinosaur island was planned. Multiple cavemenย costume ideas were posted, and from that point on multiple signs have popped up all around the game.
Wayback Machine: From 2010, these sketches were created and never used.
It ended there with hints cropping up of the island for years, but with the recent release of Mission Atlantis Episode 3, we see the dinosaurs once again. The story involves the extinction of the dinosaurs by a meteor shower that crashed the alien ship that you’ve been exploring. That’s basically all we get, but the fact that they’re associating dinosaurs with aliens is the part where things get interesting.
Aliens have been a part of Poptropica for ages as I’ve discussed before – Nabooti Island, Astro-Knights, Lunar Colony, and now Mission Atlantis.
There was a separate theory going around in the community a while back, on the chronological order of islands – were they random, were they all connected, or is each island in a separate universe? Sponsored islands aside, I believe that they are all in the same universe.
You’re probably wondering how I explain the time differences between islands, such as the hop between Reality TV Island to Mythology Island. It sounds unbelievable, until you take into consideration the very first islands…
Early Poptropica transitions to Shark Tooth with no apparent time gap. Then Shark Tooth transistions to Time Tangled with a corresponding character in both islands! No question there, they’re in the same time period.
Let’s look into this a little more though. In Early Poptropica, there is an arcade withย arcade games. Arcade games came into play in the 1970s and 80s. The games in arcade, however, are games like Sudoku and Switch. If you read up on it, you’ll learn that Sudoku only became successful in 2005. If you read the plaque about Professor Hammerhead in the tourist center in Shark Tooth Island, it says that he died in 1997 (which we learned later isn’t true).
Also note the text on the plaques – Professor Hammerhead discovered this island and its ruins. By this time, the island seems to be inhabited by tons of citizens.
The inventor of the time machine you use in Time Tangled is taking a vacation on Shark Tooth, according the the newspaper on Time Tangled (also he’s standing in the Tourist Center ๐ ). The general time of all three islands is around the time Poptropica first started, 2007.
It starts to change after you leave Time Tangled Island.
I’ll be explaining more in posts to come – tell me your theories in the comments below! I really think I’ve hit the nail on the head for this one, tell me what you think. ๐
