Filling Blanks, Firing Blanks ๐Ÿ’จ

Hey Poptropicans! Two updates from the Creators’ Blog to cover: a downtime activity and a downer analysis. Let’s pop into it.

Poptropica shared a new fill-in-the-story activity to play around with: simply come up with a list of words following the parts of speech listed, and plug them into the blanks in the story below to enjoy a unique tale.

The concept comes from Mad Libs, and if you’ve been around awhile, you may even remember that Poptropica released its own Mad Libs book back in 2012! You can still try a free page from that book at this link.

In other news, guest writer Busy Walker has kicked off a new series on the Creators’ Blog called Real World Conversations, which aims to “relate current world events to Poptropica.” It’s an interesting premise, but…

In this first attempt, Walker compares the unfolding Russian invasion of Ukraine with helplessly chasing the havoc-wreaking genie on Arabian Nights Island. Maybe it’s the choice of heavy subject matter feeling like a stretch in this case, but something about this one just seems odd to us.

But now here is the point: sometimes it needs to be said, stuff that isnโ€™t 100% happy.

Busy Walker

People everywhere are empathizing with those affected by the vastly unwanted war in Ukraine, including us here at the PHB. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ™ We’re not sure comparing the dire situation to Poptropica is doing it much justice, but it does at least get a conversation going.

Anyway, Walker’s post ends with a change of subject: a reminder that Daylight Saving Time begins on March 13 (for those who live somewhere where that’s used). Well, we’ll look forward to the next guest post โ€” hopefully one that adds up! Stay safe out there, Poptropicans.

Custom Cards and a Blogger’s Break ๐Ÿƒ

Cards on the table, Poptropicans: we’ve got challenge results and a blogging goodbye. Let’s pop right in.

Earlier we saw the showcase of Dream Cosplay Outfits from the first PoptropiCon Challenge, and now it’s time for the second and final: Mighty Action Force cards! It’s a mighty little collection:

We’ve got Popsona OCs like Red Toes, Silver Gamer, Sneaky Boa, and Barefoot Knuckle, as well as Poptropica personalities like Alphaon, Octavian, Medusa, and even CJ from Shrink Ray Island but turned demonic. Plus there’s one inspired from pop culture: Katniss Everdeen.

As with the first challenge, all participants get an unspecified amount of credits added to their accounts. Power up, Poptropicans!

(Update: According to one participant in the comments, the prize was 5,000 credits. Thanks, wolfhunter77!)

Also on the Creators’ Blog, guest writer Invisible Ring has announced a “well-earned hiatus” from posting on the official blog. In the past year, she’s written ten guest posts, which she’s linked here in a list.

The name might ring a bell for you: Ring is the producer of the Poptropica fan movie Battle Morale. We recently had her for an interview here on the PHB, so be sure to check that out and catch the feature-length film on her YouTube channel. Enjoy!

Cosmopoptropicans and Creatives ๐Ÿ’ƒ

Hey Poptropicans! Tune in for news of a name drop, fan art features, and a birthday mention. Let’s pop right in!

The well-known women’s media brand Cosmopolitan published an article about actress Hailee Steinfeld back in November that just made it into Poptropica’s new YouTube short. Turns out the writer’s a veteran!

Although Steinfeld’s movies and Cosmo aren’t written for kids, we can all appreciate the Pop name drop: “At 14, she was collecting an Oscar nomination, while the rest of us were, IDK, playing Poptropica.”

Speaking of features, there’s more on the Pop Creators’ Blog! A recent post spotlights fan art, including some we’ve shared on the PHB via Pop’s IG stories. Plus, here’s one from Twitter by @XMzhier:

Also on the Creators’ Blog is a post from guest writer Young Rider. They write about visiting the Baron (though she’s gone by the time this post comes up), their mess of a clubhouse, and the upcoming birthday of Poptropica founder Jeff Kinney on February 19. Happy 51st, Jeff!

That’s a wrap for this post. Pop on, Poptropicans!

PoptropiCon Prompts and Video Virtuosos

Hey Poptropicans, we’ve got tons of fandom creativity to share, including a couple ideas to inspire your own โ€” let’s pop into it!

To celebrate the re-release of PoptropiCon, Ep. 2, Poptropica is hosting PoptropiCon Challenges with two options! The first Pop prompt is to ๐Ÿ•ท Show Off Your Dream Cosplay Outfit (see the Spider-Man example from the Creators), and the second is to ๐Ÿƒ Make Your Own Mighty Action Force Card. See the official blog for details!

While the new episode is currently for members only, everyone is invited to join the PoptropiCon Challenges, which comes with the chance to earn “huge credit rewards”! (How much, they didn’t say.) Send in your creations to Pop’s submissions page by Wednesday, February 9th at 8pm PST and be sure to include your player name.

Looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with! Have fun!

The Creators’ Blog also recently put out a massive post of over 10 video highlights from across the fandom from YouTube and TikTok, including speedruns, Skylanders, and sketches. See all the clips from these talented video virtuosos on the official blog! ๐ŸŽฅโœจ

Speaking of video talent, Invisible Ring recently released her full-length feature film Battle Morale, an original story of an optimistic Poptropican seeking hope and truth in a dark and pessimistic world. Watch it on YouTube with bonus clips, or below:

The production took at least three months since releasing the trailer, and the movie clocks in at an impressive hour and 43 minutes. In addition to Ring’s guest post on the Creators’ Blog about the film, look forward to her interview with the PHB coming up! ๐Ÿ‘€

Closing out this collection of fandom features is an Instagram story from the Pop Creators, showcasing fan art of a perky Popsona patting an adorably grumpy Bard. Aww, good doggo! ๐Ÿถ

Lots has happened this past week, so be sure to scroll down for more news, including Jade Scarab sneak peeks. Pop on, Poptropicans!

Dressed Designs and Tribe Throughlines

Hey Poptropicans! We’ve got costume designs, throwbacks, tone-twisting tweets, and a fan comic. Let’s pop right in!

January’s costume contest reel has been released, though a winner has yet to be announced. In the meantime, enjoy all the creativity:

Which ones are you hoping to see in the game? Here are a couple of costumes with great color schemes that caught our eye:

The Pop Creators’ Blog recently shared a post from guest writer Golden Crown about the old tradition of Tribes from the Poptropolis Games. By the way, thanks Golden Crown for sharing the PHB’s Tribes page, where you can learn more about each tribe’s personality and even tour their epic common rooms! Which flag will you fly?

Over on Twitter, Poptropica shared a wholesome response to a wholesome meme, featuring a dino-dressed pet:

And in a less wholesome tweet still perhaps with a grain of truth:

Last but not least, here’s a fan art feature from Pop’s Instagram story! If you’re a diehard Pop fan, perhaps you too can relate to the intense passion captured in this comic:
