Pop 5: Poptropica Places We Wish Were Real

This post originally appeared on Pop Blog, which recently won Best Fan Site in the 2017 Poppies! It’s now being shared on the PHB courtesy of the author, Mia, and this list represents only the author’s opinions. See the bottom of this post for how you, too, can write for the PHB!

Hey fellow Poptropicans!

So, this post is about islands – maybe somewhere in Hawaii, where it’s peaceful, quiet, calm– wait, not those islands… Poptropica Islands! You know, fighting crime, wreaking havoc, saving lives, and heck, even ruining lives (for evildoers of course). Anything but peaceful! Yes, there are some Poptropica islands I wish were real places on this very Earth and here’s 5 of ’em! 😀

(Side note: I know some Poptropica Islands take place in real places on Earth, usually straight from the past or realistic places that aren’t specifically named. So yeah…  just makin’ sure you guys know that I don’t doubt the existence of things like caves. xD)

#1: Time Tangled Island

First off, there’s Time Tangled Island. From here, I’d basically like to be able to time travel to all of the different time periods! I mean how great would it be to shake hands with Thomas Jefferson or meet Ancient Vikings!

Time Tangled: Apollo

#2: Ghost Story Island

Secondly, Ghost Story Island! Now, normally people wouldn’t want to live in a place with ghosts or supernatural beings, but how cool would it be to be able to see ghosts! Same thing goes for the vampires on Vampire’s Curse, but I won’t count that as one of my choices since the reason is practically the same. 😛 And hey, who says ghosts don’t actually exist? Boo!

#3: Mythology Island

Then there’s Mythology Island! Greek gods and goddesses roaming around – magic and mythical beings, amazing items and acts being witnessed every day! Enough said! Who wouldn’t want Mythology Island to be real?

#4: Shrink Ray Island

Fourth, Shrink Ray Island! Of course, I would like the ability to be able to change back and forth between normal size and tiny, but wouldn’t it be fun to jump on marshmallows like trampolines and be able to fit in a dollhouse? And who knows? Maybe someday science will get there!

#5: Monster Carnival Island

Last but not least, Monster Carnival! Not your run-of-the-mill carnival, that’s for sure! In this carnival, you’re walking along side disguised monsters and having this old-timey creepy feel. Sure, it would be scary at first – but who doesn’t love a good scare?

Ringmaster Raven’s Tent, Monster Carnival Island

I hope you guys could relate with some of these choices! What other Poptropica places would you want to check out in real life? Until next time!

Pop 5: Big Things That Happened to Poptropica

(Hello, Poptropicans! This is a guest post written by Magic Sinker, who has her own site called The Poptastic Blog. Keep in mind that this list represents only the author’s opinions. Enjoy!)

Hi, Poptropicans, Magic Sinker here! Today I am going to do a Pop 5 post, which is, if you had no clue, a post in which a Poptropican writes a list about a topic on Poptropica, which in this case is Top 5 Best things that have happened to Poptropica! Let’s start!

#5: In the year 2007, Poptropica was released!

oldhomepage

Behold, the inevitable truth that many overlook. Yes, this may seem like a small fact to you, but it’s the foundation for everything we’re talking about here!

Also in this year of 2007, this was the year Poptropica founder, Jeff Kinney, published the first Wimpy Kid book! The debut of the game also came with its first and only island at the time: Early Poptropica.

#4: The First Sound-Updated Island, Episodic Island, and Sponsored Island was released!

These three Islands are: Virus Hunter Island (first SUI), Survival Island (first episodic adventure), and Big Nate Island (first sponsored island). All three of these Islands are — believe me — very different when you first take a look at them, but even with their differences, they were all special in their own ways.

Personally, my favorite Island out of these three is Virus Hunter Island.

#3: Skinny Moon became the main author on the Creators’ Blog and the social media manager!

sm-snap

To all the new Poptropica players, there used to be a few other authors on the official Creators’ blog, such as Dr. Hare and Captain Crawfish, but now there is only one: Skinny Moon. This didn’t only happen on the Creators’ Blog, though.

For all the fans of Poptropica over the age of 13, the Poptropica Creators are on Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Tumblr, and a few other social media platforms. Skinny Moon herself has also been known to stop by Discord on occasion!

#2: The Poptropica Help Chat moved to Discord!

phc2.png

Some of us know that the PHC, which is the PHB’s chat hangout, used to be on Xat, but I think that Discord is the more convenient server option. You may already know about Discord, since the PHC recently had a party for Pride Month, but still, this is big!

Thanks to the ease of use with Discord, many more Poptropicans (including myself) were able to discover and chat with the friendly community of fellow Poptropicans.

#1: Poptropica Worlds arrived at last!

popworlds.png

Yes, we definitely all know this and, sorry to say, but if you didn’t, where you hiding under a rock this past time? We had been waiting for a little more than a year, and a few months ago, the Poptropica Creators posted the sneak-peek teaser video which gave us the name Poptropica Worlds, instead of the mysterious “New Poptropica.”

Anyway, in May, the long-awaited reboot game finally debuted! Yay!

So, I hope you guys enjoyed my little list, and please tell me your opinion in the comments below. Bye!

Pop 5: Adventurous Islands

(Hello, Poptropicans! This is a guest post written by Poptropica community member, TechWizard. Keep in mind that this Pop 5 list represents only the author’s opinions, and also contains minor spoilers for some Poptropica islands. With that said, enjoy!)

pop5 adventurous islands

Hey Poptropicans! It’s everyone’s favorite Pop 5-er, TechWizard!

Poptropica Islands are really awesome, so I decided: Why not tell you all my pop 5 favorite adventurous islands? How does that sound to you? Great. Sit down and be prepared for an adventurous ride!

Please notice that this list contains spoilers, so read at your own risk! Anyway, let’s just get to the countdown!

#5: Spy Island

Being one of the very first islands I played, Spy Island whips you into a mission to track down three lost agents while dealing with the villainous B.A.D organization. Are they terrorists? Do they just want to make a fashion statement? Well, who knows? Spy Island is a classic and a great play for all ages! And it’s certainly NOT “mission impossible”!

#4: Arabian Nights Island, Ep. 2

an66

I’m a sucker for infiltration games, and Episode 2 of Arabian Nights is no exception. You sneak around the 40 thieves’ lair (which I assume was not approved by the Homeowner’s Association) to find a lamp. Your gear? A highly flammable disguise that doesn’t burn you to death, and a magic bomb. Yup, pretty cool.

#3: Red Dragon Island

Lucky Joker Ninja.png

I wish I could go there! This island is one of Pop’s sponsored islands, based on a story from the popular Magic Tree House series! If you don’t know what that is, it’s about two siblings who travel in a magic treehouse to various time periods and places from history and mythology.

This island whisks you to Old Japan, where Jack and Annie are taken away for being illegals. Now you have to help some people, learn some ninja skills, and ascend to the fortress to break them out. Unexpectedly, our “friend,” the Shogun, won’t let us off the hook without an excruciatingly difficult boss fight: the dragon clash. (Of course, it’s not as hard if you use easy mode.)

#2: Virus Hunter Island

vh5

This takes me back to the summer of 2013… on a day when it was hot, I had just returned home from a picnic, and I was near exhaustion. I checked Poptropica, and Virus Hunter had been released!

Here, you get entangled in a quest (against your will) by Dr. Lange, a scientist who threatens to throw you in federal jail. Your mission: Cure someone before they die. No skin off your nonexistent nose, right? In the body, however, viruses dismantle your ship and scatter the parts everywhere, making your mission a lot harder. Have fun!

Eventually, you get your weaponry back and cure Joe Schmoe. But then a dog gets sick and you have to cure him too. What, no paycheck?

And now, for the number one island! It’s…

#1: Super Villain Island

The death of Lucky Joker

The return of the Fearsome Four! You fly to a dangerous prison to infiltrate the dreams of four of Poptropica’s most infamous villains to retrieve the source of their unyielding evil. You encounter sleeping pirates, spinning platforms, ants, crazy spiders, a woman with a penchant for vandalizing, and the god of all villains….

Zeus! He’s back, and certainly not happy about his previous defeat. He’s hatched another plot to take over Poptropica, and it’s up to you to stop him! You’ve done it before; you can do it again, right?

That’s all for now, folks! Sayonara! Adios! Bye bye! Ciao! See ya!

Pop 5: Villains of Poptropica #2

(Hey Poptropicans! This is a guest post written by TechWizard, and it’s a sequel to his previous Pop 5 post about the greatest Poptropica villains. Keep in mind that this list is purely his opinion and also contains spoilers. With that said, enjoy! –🐠)

Greetings, people of the PHB! It is I, TechWizard, everyone’s favorite guest poster, glitcher, and all-around complainer. Looking back on my previous Pop 5: Villains of Poptropica list, I honestly felt like I left out many deserving villains. So I’ve decided to do a round 2!

Also by the by: there be spoilers on the horizon! So turn back now if you haven’t completed these islands. (IT’S 2017, YOU SHOULD HAVE FINISHED THEM THOUGH!) Anyway, let’s get right into the list!

#5: Ringmaster Raven

mci 4
He’ll have time to reflect on his life of crime.

He’s the rather spooky baddie of Monster Carnival. His crime? Running a monster circus. Pretty awesome! Especially when he puts on that fancy cloak. Truly an amazing villain.

#4: Scheherazade

arab20

Ah, Arabian Nights, the Create Your Own Island contest winner. The first part isn’t too exciting, but then you get entangled in a fetch quest for one magic lamp. Some thieves cause some trouble for you in Episode 2.

Then, in Episode 3, the leader – who becomes a genie – is revealed to be the princess, who has a bad case of father issues. Everything works out in the end, as the princess and sultan return to their old lives as street merchants. Good for them… I would’ve wanted the money, to be honest.

#3: Binary Bard

Binary Bard is king! Er, jester.

One of the original villains of Poptropica, Binary Bard is an all-time classic. He brought technology to a medieval village! And then he went crazy and made a space fortress. And he stole the village’s power orb. And the princess. So you fly into space in an attempt to rescue her.

That’s not all… when he returns in another island, you have to go enter his dreams and make him good. And that’s the last we see of him… for now.

#2: Myron Van Buren

mvb

A psychopathic hunter straight out of a Jumanji ripoff, MVB rescues you and offers you food and shelter. Seems kind, right? WRONG. He wants to mount you over his fireplace. So you make a break for it. A big manhunt ensues, and you and another escapee work together to stop MVB! And then to add insult to injury, you steal his helicopter. All in all, a pretty intense piece of work!

Before we get to #1, let’s have some honorable mentions…

HM #1: El Mustachio

WildWest4
Keeping the streets safe for decent people.

Your stereotypical Wild West villain. Like Scheherazade, he too has a gang. Only they’re not Arabian thieves, they’re cowboys with guns. Yeah… I hope you brought a bulletproof vest!

HM #2: Omegon

omegon2

Robots! Portals! Giant cat robot! It’s everything a guy can ask for. Omegon, mistaking cosplayers and actors for actual heroes, hijacks a convention and makes it his super cool fortress. And you, as always, have to pull the plug on his operation. An epic fight ensues and you win the day!

HM #3: Booted Bandit

efpr39

A classic case of identity swap! BB sends your player to the slammer while he/she roams free. Thanks to the Booted Bandit, you now have to break out of prison with the help of your new friends and clear your name!

And now for the number one villain…

survival-photo-3
YOU, the player! Don’t think I didn’t see you littering!

I kid again! Now for the TRUE number one villain…

#1: Black Widow

counterfeit35

Black Widow! This lady is another classic villain. At first, she plays the role of an innocent detective. You and some creepy guy (who probably owns a white van and lurks outside schools) work together to stop the Black Widow before she can snatch The Scream. But surprise surprise, you and Creepo are captured by her. So you two make an escape and capture her. The end!

But then she gets put to sleep as well. And in another island, you gotta enter her dreams and make her good. THE END…

Well, that was a lot to type. I must depart now. I have places to go, exploits to find, people to bug.

Ad astra per aspera!

Pop 5: Most Dangerous/Scary Islands

(Hey Poptropicans! This is a guest post written by Magic Snowball, a Poptropica player in the community. Please note that this post represents only the author’s opinion, and contains some spoilers for some Poptropica islands. Enjoy! –🐠)

pop5 scary islands

Hey everyone! It’s me, Magic Snowball, that weirdo who hangs around the Poptropica community. And today I’m here to do a Pop 5 – my first guest post! What’s the topic, you ask? I present…

Poptropica’s Top 5 Most Dangerous/Scary Islands! *cue dramatic music*

Of course, all the islands on this list are going to involve something… er, dangerous… and scary. Like going inside somewhere dangerous, getting jump-scared (Jersey Devil, anyone?) and so on. And yes, I know Poptropicans are basically OP super-humans, but still, they do some pretty crazy stuff…

So let’s begin the Pop 5!

#5: Twisted Thicket Island

twisted thicket2

Behold! The island where you must travel into this creepy forest, get beaten up by all these creatures, then save the forest and creatures that beat you up! So, why did I choose this island? Well, firstly, it’s not only dangerous, but scary. I mean, look at the Nøkken! That thing is nightmare is fuel… *shivers* And, like I said, you get beat up by these other woodland creatures, and then you have to stop an entire team of construction vehicles! If that isn’t dangerous, I don’t know what is.

Poptropica rates this island easy, and it might be, but it’s definitely still scary and dangerous… *hides from the Nøkken*

#4: Astro-Knights Island

tumblr_inline_msf7q586ax1qz4rgp

Aliens, frustration, flying in zero-gravity! What could be more fun than that? This island, according to many people (myself included) is one of the hardest to complete. And it’s also pretty dangerous. I mean, you’re flying into space to save a princess from a half-robot creepo. And space is not fun. There are things trying to kill you on every planet (except for the Pewter Moon), and even in the space around them.

This isn’t the scariest island, but creatures like the Mother Phoenix are pretty creepy (to me at least). This island’s a little too dangerous to be left off the list, but it’s not the most terrifying. En garde!

#3: Survival Island

survival-info-03

Survival Island! This five-part island is full of fun things like being chased by a psychopath, then catching said psychopath! Now, this island doesn’t have the traditional “scary” things like monsters or flaming meteorites, but it is realistic. There’s the element of survival (well, duh), hunting, and animals. You always have to be on the move, and you can’t trust anyone. That’s why I consider it pretty dangerous. Plus, you’ve got someone hunting you and so they can stuff you in their trophy collection, which is pretty messed up!

#2: Virus Hunter Island

vh6

Welcome to Glitch Island – uh, I mean, Virus Hunter Island! Guess what, kids? You’re not a trained pilot. So what happens? You get to drive through someone’s body in a microscopic ship to stop a killer virus! Isn’t that awesome?

Alright, seriously, this island is pretty scary and dangerous. You’re stopping a killer virus from killing every human on Earth. Plus, the virus itself is pretty scary. I don’t wanna talk ‘bout it… we’ll just say the island is full of danger. PDC, green spider-like killers, dangerous grape soda, electric nerves, falafel… the list goes on!

And now, it’s time for the most dangerous, most scary island on allllll of Poptropica….

*drumroll* It’s…

#1: Mythology Island

mythology-cerberus

Okay, this island and Virus Hunter had me a bit stumped, but in the end I chose this island to top the list, ‘cause it’s just that dangerous, and the peril you’re in feels worse (though it’s still really close). Dude. Anyway…. You arrive on this island, where there’s gods and creatures and stuff. You go to a tree, and pick an apple. Then, Santa Claus – uh, Zeus – shows up, and offers you immortality! But first, you have to get some stuff for him so he can take over Poptropica, but you don’t realize. Yay!

So you, a mortal, do a bunch of dangerous things, like enter the Labyrinth where barely anyone survives. According to mythology, anyway. Oh, not dangerous enough? Then you have to go to the freaking Underworld, and put flipping Cerberus to sleep, as well as crossing the River Styx. And it gets worse! At the end, you have to fight a god – not just anyone, but the king of the gods. Nuts, huh? Too many times you could die on this island.

If you don’t beat Zeus, all of Poptropica is screwed! That’s scary in itself. Plus, there are some other creepy things on this island, like those Hercules fan girls. Oh, and the Underworld, the sphinx, the minotaur, the hydra, and it goes on…

Alright guys! Those islands were the Pop 5 of scariest and most dangerous. Now it’s time for some honorable mentions!

HM: Cryptids Island

cryptids18

This island, if on the list, would be #6. It’s definitely got the scary element (Jersey Devil and the Chupacabra), and it’s dangerous, but not the most dangerous. Still a good island, though.

HM: Monster Carnival Island

mcarnival

The lost island! Yep, definitely creepy (especially that lab… oh gods), and monster-filled! Though it isn’t particularly dangerous- really only the monsters are dangerous. Oh, and Ringmaster Raven, who tries to hypnotise everyone. But no, it’s not the most dangerous, so I left it out.

HM: Super Villain Island

svi 5

Guess what guys? Zeus is back, and he’s more annoying than ever! This time, he’s kidnapped four super villains, and we have to enter their dangerous dreams! Yay! Then, at the end, we have to fight Zeus again, and the fight is more life-threatening than Mythology Island’s! Although it’s dangerous, it just isn’t scary enough, so I left it out.

Alrighty, ladies and gents! That’s all I have to say for this list, so thank you for reading and I’ll see you around in the Poptropica community! 🙂
