Popspiracy: The Origin of Poptropica

(This is a guest post by Happy Lobster, Shaky Skunk, and Tall Cactus, PHB readers here to share some Poptropica thoughts. Keep in mind that what they present is only theory, not to be taken as fact. If you have a Popspiracy, see below for details on guest posting! Enjoy! –SlantedFish)

popspiracy

What’s popping, Poptropicans? Happy Lobster, Shaky Skunk and Tall Cactus here, and today we’re going to be sharing our mega theories about the origins of Poptropica. HL and Shaky were writing separate theories for the PHB, but since they were both similar, they decided to combine the posts together. Then Tall Cactus wanted to help, since she’s basically the queen of theories. Well, that being said, let’s get started!

The Realms Theory

Hey there, it’s HL here with an immense Popspiracy that I’m surprised no-one has brought up before. You may know me from Discord, the Forums, the comments of PHB posts and the blogs I work on, which includes my blog, HLPB, and the others I work on: PSB, ECC and Clawtropica. Usually, I’d save things like this just for the blogs I actually work on, but as I said before, it’s immense. Mind-blowing. Tremendous. Everyone should know about it. So, let’s get started! Just make sure that you ain’t feeling sleepy right now, because this Popspiracy has about 900 words.

To begin with, my Popspiracy is about… Poptropica. And not a particular concept in the game, but the concept of itself. It delves deeper and deeper into the roots of Poptropica, revealing its greatest secret. The true origin of Poptropica, whereas Shaky will describe each possible aspect of the beginning. This does follow the amazing theories of Poptropica by both Koi and Purple Claw. So just to sum things up, Koi’s theory was about the fact that Poptropicans are possibly descended from aliens, and Purple Claw’s theory was about the fact that Poptropica could possibly be one of the bubble-like orbs we see when we visit the realm of… well, Realms. Feel free to probe deeper into these theories via the links if you want to see the exact foundations of these theories.

So with that out of the way, my question is: Why, when a new Poptropican is born, is it that they enter a world that is exactly the equivalent of all other Poptropicans’ worlds, with the same characters, landscapes, and quests, and yet Poptropicans never encounter each other (apart from Multiverses) in the same world?

The answer isn’t simple. But let’s walk the road that’ll lead to the ultimate answer. Firstly, as PC says, the general world of Poptropica is a Realm. Poptropica isn’t endless, like the other Realms, but it is ever-expanding, and it’s probably as large – if not even larger – than the space in each Realm we’ve bothered to explore.

So what if – there are multiple, individual Realms of Poptropica? Read on to hear our ideas!

Poptropica: A Symbolic Meaning

Hoi, I’m Koi.

Poptropica has a recurring sci-fi theme. The only two things that connect them all usually is space and… the symbols. Why I deemed it necessary to say usually is because Zomberry was science fiction, but really had nothing to do with this in the grand scheme of things. Let’s begin!

Nabooti

tumblr_inline_msb1e5MFJf1qz4rgp

The first time we encountered these alien scribblings was while we were on a scavenger hunt all through Africa! If you don’t know what I’m talking about, they were imbedded into the Nabooti jewels. When they were all put into the correct order into a wooden totem, it became alive. Then, it thanked us, and returned back to it’s home planet.

Astro-Knights

The second time we encounter the galactic gibberish is on Astro-Knights.

Now listen, there’s no way to confirm that the writing is absolutely the same language. But, I do have a weird theory. The totem on Nabooti was activated by the writing. When the UFO was getting activated, it went from English to what you can see above. I think the language acts as a power source. Everywhere else on the island, any space signs or books are in English.

Mission Atlantis

The symbols once more act as some kind of space fuel. Also, notice how uncanny these letters compare to Astro-Knights… hm.

Monkey Wrench

monkeywrench3.png

While these don’t exactly work as a source of power, they are a language. There’s no way to confirm if these are all the same one, but here’s my Popspiracy:

Poptropicans descended from aliens.

Really, it does make a fair share of sense. While the aliens we’ve seen are on the Pewter moon, they may not have derived from that planet. They can clearly space travel, mind the rockets. It’s possible that they speak English, but write it in a different way. It’s also possible they crash landed, or purposely chose Poptropica. Then, their skin pigments adapted to the environment, their hair adapted to the heat, but one thing that always stayed was their instinct to write in their chicken scratch / extra-terrestrial hieroglyphics.

It’s also logical how when we go to the Pewter moon, the aliens speak to us in our language, and any island in space’s signs and messenges are in English. It’s perfectly possible that English is the prominent communication of the universe, as an extension to my earlier thought.

I understand it’s a game, and the Aliens not speaking English would be hard for kids and anyone for that matter to really understand the story and the game. Though, theoretical does it not only make sense – with what I’ve provided, it also is logical, and better than anything as of now. 😛

What do y’alls think? Are Monktropicans, Poptropicans, and Aliens linked?

Earth Day Special: Where does Poptropica take place?

Wihi folks!

This is something I wanted to bring up for a very long time, and now that I have a much larger audience to listen, I guess it’s time to share!

WhereDoesPoptropicaTakePlace.png

In Nabooti Island, we got to see Poptropica’s planet for the very first time, implying perhaps that the planet we saw was Poptropica itself. I personally believe the planet we see is Earth, and Poptropica is just a chain of islands, like a super large Hawaii. Why? Well, let’s look here:

Also, let’s care to mention that Time Tangled Island is literally filled with famous monuments, continents, and places on Earth, and Ghost Story island takes place in New England, and that our solar system’s planets look nothing like Poptropica’s.

So, now it’s time to wonder. Is Poptropica this, or this?

Is it just a country, continent, archipelago, or who knows? So why are all the villains after “Poptropica”, and just not “Earth” specifically? That’s really the only disadvantage we have to the theory I’m about to share…

Here’s what I think: Poptropica may just be PART of an alternate version of Earth. Like Steven Universe, for those familiar with the show. So perhaps Poptropica is like Earth, with places such as Africa and Ancient Greece, except it also has its own uniquely “Poptropica” islands that are somehow connected to these times and places. It’s also worth noting the different variation of planets in Poptropica’s solar system we see on Astro-Knights and Legendary Swords (Ice Planet, Fire Planet, etc) – which are different to Earth’s solar system.

I think when Time Tangled Island and Nabooti were made, the Creators didn’t have the thought in mind for Poptropica being a world of its own. Now, perhaps Poptropica is in no way connected with Earth, and just has its own similarities and differences. Who knows? Only Poptropica, (and time) will tell!

Considering this is an Earth Day special, make sure to respect the environment, recycle, yada yada yada, don’t liter. 😛

Hope you Poptropicanos enjoyed reading my thoughts! How do you see Poptropica in relation to the Earth we know? Until next post comes around,

Wibi!

Popspiracy: Behind the Backpacker

(This is a guest post by Hyper Gamer, a PHB reader here to share some Poptropica thoughts. Keep in mind that what he presents is only theory, not to be taken as fact. If you have a Popspiracy, see below for details on guest posting! Enjoy! –SlantedFish 🐠)

popspiracy

How is everyone? It’s me Hyper Gamer. I’m here today to share a Popspiracy.

Last month, the Creators posted a Daily Pop sneak peek of this character, laden with gold and goodies, titled “Backpacker”:

sneakpeek_03-25-16
Backpacker: Time to hit the dusty trail.

Good news! The Backpacker NPC (non-player character) is finally released. He resides on Home Island, but it seems like not everyone has been able to see him there yet. You have to complete Monkey Wrench Island in order to be able to see him, but if you’ve done that, try restarting the island as well.

What does this Backpacker guy do? The Backpacker guy tells you how to get to more adventures, which is basically the blimp. Below is a gif of me interacting with this character.

backpacker

Let’s start by discussing potential reasons why the Creators decided to create this guy. Yes you might think it’s for tutorial purposes, but I think there is more to it than that. Take a look at the image below.

backpacker1

On the left is a conversation with Amelia Earhart. On the right is a conversation with Backpacker. Notice how they both have a tutorial on how to get to more adventures. Why would there be a need for two tutorials of the exact same thing?

Maybe it’s supposed to be like that, but I think the Backpacker is part of an unfinished project that lies within the realm of secret projects the Creators can’t reveal. Perhaps they released the Backpacker earlier so we would think that they were doing something. If that’s the case, Backpacker’s release was made to not seem like something random that was unfinished. It actually looks fine where it is.

Now let’s talk about his role as a character in the Poptropica world. Going back to the sneak peek, the caption says, “Time to hit the dusty trail.” Now where is this trail? Is it on another island? Now look at all that stuff he’s carrying and the medallions he’s wearing. There’s only one explanation: He’s one of us. The backpack is his inventory and the medallions he won from other islands. Now why would some great adventurer be spending his time telling us how to get to more adventures?

Let’s look at his backpack. The sword could be from one of his adventures, perhaps on Astro-Knights Island, the map appears to be the one from Mystery of the Map, and the green coins must be his credits, to name a few. What if the Backpacker saw Poptropica through our perspective? Maybe he only sees what we see. By that I mean, he can only go to the Islands that have been released. Sine he’s completed all released islands, he is at Home Island resting. It’s called “home” for a reason. Now he spends his time helping all the newcomers on their adventures while relaxing on Home Island.

He has an ax and a crystal, which could be from the Poptropica Realms. And here’s another thought: he must be a paid member. He has membership, so he has no use for credits. That’s why he has so many green coins (credits) in his sack. Also, only members-only items have goggles like the pair he’s wearing. Sure, they may look a bit different (perhaps greener for those items based on Dr. Hare) on the item cards, but that’s a very small thing to worry about.

What do you guys think? Is the Backpacker part of something bigger? Is he Poptropica’s first NPC to break the fourth wall? Write back with your thoughts in the comments!

Popspiracy: Time Bugs in Time Tangled!

(This is a guest post by Mad APPer, an avid Poptropican in the community here to share some Poptropica thoughts. Keep in mind that the theory he presents is only a theory, not to be taken as fact. If you have a Popspiracy, see below for details on guest posting! Enjoy! –SlantedFish 🐠)

popspiracy

What up, Poptropicans? I’m Mad Apper, and I’m guest posting on the PHB! My theory comes from me putting some some thought into Time Tangled Island.

time tangledIn Time Tangled, the time machine takes you to different time periods and places in history. Remember, it’s a time machine. Why would it take you to different places?

I know, “Maybe it’s supposed to do that! You know, so you don’t end up there instead of in the same place in a different time.” Well, hear me out.

Professor Pendulum, the creator of the time machine and devices, can be found on Shark Tooth Island. I’ve learned this from a previous Popspiracy: Nobody said all Poptropica islands take place in the same time period.

What am I suggesting? A time bug. Pendulum might have gone to Shark Tooth via the time machine! For all we know, Shark Tooth could take place before, after, or during Time Tangled. Here’s the twist: We weren’t just traveling through time, but different islands.

Yes, you may go “Whatever” or “All Popspiracies are jokes” or “I came up with that theory a year ago!”. Again, hear me out. How exactly did a particular Time Tangled character end up on top on a Shark Tooth building? (And yes, Time Tangled was originally going to be named Time Twisted.)

what
It’s all Pendulum’s fault. Yep, that’s how wacky this theory is. What if the time machine was still in its testing stage? The second Pendulum tested it, he accidentally transported a soldier from the Ancient Greek period of Time Tangled Island to Shark Tooth. Simultaneously, a time bug may have switched around items from different islands, causing our Poptropican to go through the events of Time Tangled Island.

As for Pendulum himself, he can be found relaxing in the tourist building on Shark Tooth, and you won’t see him in person on Time Tangled. He and Crusoe from Monkey Wrench would’ve been great friends. But what if he got there by using the time machine?

PendulumNewspaper

When you break this down, this theory is really five theories.

  • Theory #1 (likely): Shark Tooth and Time Tangled take place in different time periods.
  • Theory #2 (possible): The time machine is what brought Professor Pendulum to Shark Tooth Island.
  • Theory #3 (most likely fact): The time machine was still in its testing stage.
  • Theory #4 (EXTREMELY UNLIKELY): Professor Pendulum, Crusoe, Dr. Hare, and Myron Van Buren would all be great friends.
  • Theory #5 (MORE UNLIKELY THAN #4, I DON’T EVEN BELIEVE THIS ONE): All Popspiracies are jokes.
  • Theory #6 (most likely): I am terrible at jokes and should never even attempt jokes ever again. More importantly, why am I joking in a serious theory? The world shall never know the truth!

Enough with the jokes. You may agree with one theory, but not the others. Or maybe you want to make a fan-fic where Pendulum and Crusoe are great friends. Maybe you think I’m just wasting time because I’m trying to make this post 500 words long. Good news, readers! This is the end! Feel free to run away!

This is not to be taken as fact. Who knows, maybe it is fact? Talk amongst yourselves in the comments.

May I guest post another day,

IAN, Infinity, MA, or rather…

How’s that for a Popspiracy?
