My Place in Poptropica: Teen Arachnid

This is the My Place in Poptropica story of TeenArachnid, aka Happy Panda, who enjoys participating within the PHB community. See the bottom of this post for details on sending in your own MPIP!

MPIP-TeenArachnid

Hello Poptropicans! It is I, Teen Arachnid (previously known as Happy Panda)! This is my MPIP post. My name is Teen Arachnid, but my PHB account is teenarachnidpoptropica. Anyway, I love Poptropica, Flipline, Marvel, DC Comics, and Lego. Oh yeah, and I love the PHB! Also, I am not the actual Teen Arachnid from PoptropiCon Island. Well, here we go:

2009-2010 | The Discovery

For me, it started when I was in my gifted class during kindergarten. Some fifth graders introduced me to the Duck Song, Duck Life, and… POPTROPICA! Now really quickly, I want to thank them for showing it to me, or I wouldn’t be on Poptropica today. Now where was I, oh yes! I created a weird account, with a weird username I can’t remember. But for a 6 year old, I kicked butt while playing Poptropica!

2011-2012 | The Crappy Computer

Since I couldn’t remember my username, I created a new account. I was still in love with Poptropica at this age, but sadly, I could hardly play it at that time. My parents had a very old computer, and if I was on Poptropica for 10 minutes, the computer would freeze up and stop working for an hour. I could only play it for about 30 minutes a week, which is very little time for me. So in that time, I played games that didn’t make my computer crash: games from Flipline Studios. I highly recommend that gaming site to you.

2013-2014 | New Computer, New Accounts, and the Best Discovery

Fortunately, my parents eventually fixed the computer so I could play Poptropica longer than I could previously. I created four accounts, but right now I can only remember the usernames and passwords for two of them. But anyway, during this time, I was able to complete many islands.

One day, I was stuck on Time Tangled Island. So I got online, and after a quick search, I found what I considered one of my best discoveries: the Poptropica Help Blog! I created a WordPress account (to comment on blogs like the PHB) called Jugger Kid, and if you look in the PHB archives from 2013-14, you may find some comments from me!

2015 | PHB Fanboy

I began to love the PHB so much that I would find myself on the PHB about ten times a day. For a while I commented under the name Blazeberry Comma, but after a while I decided I didn’t like it so much. So I renamed myself Happy Panda, my Poptropican’s name.

During the PHB’s first ever Poppies event, I got a couple mentions on the Poppies broadcast. Also, I was that one guy who put whoopee cushions all of the Multiverse Room during the Poptropica party! I also got one of my stories in the PHB’s Popcorn magazine (issue #25, if you’d like to see it), which was a huge honor for me. Finally, I contributed a picture to the PHB’s Escape From Pelican Rock Guide (the one with the bar that told you where the cop was while you were in your cell).

2016 – beyond | So Far This Year, and Future Dreams

So far this year, I got my Poptropican in a PMFM post (Round 9, to be exact)!

Happy Panda
Happy Panda

So yeah. Also, if you want to add me, my current account name is >jagger< . If you want to add my previous accounts, they are: toto11623, paul11623, canhe99, and toycan. Right now, I comment on the PHB under a couple of names: Teen Arachnid (for home) and Happy Panda (for other places).

My biggest dream is to one day become a PHB author, but it probably won’t happen. But like William Arthur War says: “If you can imagine it, you can achieve it; if you can dream it, you can become it.”

Guest Posts, Our Discovery Island

Our Discovery Island on mobile!

(Hey guys! This is a guest post by TechWizard, who wants to tell us about Our Discovery Island being turned into an app. Let’s check out some of the new stuff! –Slippery 🐊)

Hoi Poptropicans! TechWizard here not with a developer post but with something completely different! *cue booing*

Oh, hold your boos. You’re going to either love or hate this because I’ve found Poptropica’s educational clone, Our Discovery Island… on mobile*more booing*

But wait, what’s so special about this? Well, it’s called Poptropica English, despite other Poptropica English apps in existence. However, it’s quite like desktop ODI!

Capture

The app contains few, but significant changes from the desktop version:

  • In the desktop version, it’s called “Our Discovery Island” but now, the app is called “Poptropica English Island Game“. It is probably because of the change of management from Pearson to Sandbox.
  • In the app, everyone can now experience the game through a free trial. The trial ends after few scenes. If you have your account from the desktop version, you can also use it to play the full version.
  • You can also play the different games (Quiz, Match Cards, and etc.) from the menu!
  • Item names are now capitalized rather than in lowercase.
  • It now runs on the same game engine as the Poptropica app from the character customization and interface!
  • Although, the islands are still the same— from the quests, gameplay and to the voices.

You can check out the game on Apple or Android devices by downloading it from the App Store or Google Play.

Well, time to go crawl back to the hole I reside in! *cue piano music* We’ll meet again, don’t know where and I don’t know when! Oh, I know we’ll meet again, some sunny day!

My Place in Poptropica

My Place in Poptropica: Shaky Skunk

This is the My Place in Poptropica story of Shaky Skunk, an on-again, off-again Poptropican who now runs her own fansite. See below for details on sending in your own MPIP!

shaky skunk.png

Hey, guys. I decided to write a My Place in Poptropica story, since a lot of members in the community are doing it, and I thought it would be fun, since I’ve been playing Poptropica for ages. So yeah, here’s My Place in Poptropica, Shaky Skunk Edition! 😀

Before 2008 | Prior to Poptropica

Before I discovered Poptropica, I would go on websites like Boombang, Barbie, Polly Pocket and other stuff for little girls. I was only seven years old, and had to use a crummy old desktop, so I was only on it after school and on weekends, and I also had to share using it with my sister! It was pretty lame, until one day…

2008 | Funbrain

One weekend, we were on the computer, and my sister introduced me to Funbrain. It was a little popular at school, and the kids would play it in free computer time.

I remember playing all of the games in the Funbrain Playground and even reading the book they had there. Until my sister pointed out an ad.

“Hey, what’s Poptropica?” she said, clicking the link.

She created her character, Mighty Skunk, or “MiniMindfreakCasey”, and started playing Early Poptropica and Shark Tooth Island. I watched her play in amazement. I thought it was a really cool game.

Eventually, my sister let me play. Since I was a weird little kid, I entered the username “BigYummyCandyApple”, cause why not? I started changing the name until a got a name that I liked and would stick forever: Shaky Skunk. My character had brown hair and a pink shirt.

Once I had finished Early Poptropica and some other islands, I spent my credits on the Followers: Classic Pack and the Classic PopGum. Soon, the entire class had been introduced to Poptropica. (I honestly have no idea how I remember all of this. 😂)

Eventually, I had finished all of the islands. I completed all the islands, with the help of the PHB and some other blogs, and wore my medallions in pride. After that, I would waste my time in the common rooms battling in games and watching my sister play, until they would release more islands.

2010 | Poptropica at School

It was third grade. Everyone on the computers had Poptropica open, getting stuck on Ghost Story Island, and I was reminded of that amazing game. I started playing the oldies, like Reality TV Island.

At home, I kept replaying my favourites, which had to be the sponsored islands.

2012 | Membership and the PHB Stalking

It was fifth grade. I had completely forgotten about Poptropica, and spent my time on Boombang and made mediocre drawings of cats on DeviantArt.

For some reason, the name Poptropica popped into my head. I went online and played most of the islands. My brother saw that I was obsessed with this game and bought me a month of membership.

With my membership, I got all of the members only and regular cards. Soon, my character was this weird hybrid of a goth and a dog. I was really happy, because I also got early access to Wimpy Boardwalk, and played the members only bonus quests. (Except for that horrid Wimpy Boardwalk one. 😡)

Since I needed help with like, two-thirds of the islands, I rediscovered the PHB. I would stalk it every day. I even added the mermaid and green girl costumes to my closet.

2013 | A Fresh Start

It was sixth grade. I was getting a little bored of my Poptropica account, so I made a new one. I entered the username “AdelaideQueen”, and my name was something like “Red Fox”. I can’t remember.

After replaying the islands, and discovering the HORRORS of sound updated islands, I was starting to get sick of playing Poptropica.

Occasionally, I would check Poptropica and replay my favourite islands, but I only did that about once or twice a year.

2016 | Rejoining the Community and Blogging

By now, I’m in ninth grade. It was January, and I wondered how Poptropica was going. I logged on to my BigYummyCandyApple account, and the memories came flooding back.

I wanted to replay all of the islands, but then I remembered the PHB. I decided to make my own blog, Poptropica Skunk Blog. I soon discovered the Poptropica community, chat rooms, and joined two other blogs. So, yeah, I’m still playing Poptropica to this day.

Hopefully in the future, I will still be a fan of Poptropica. I hope the game, islands and ad placements are improved in the future. Cause right now, the ads are just like the ones in Mocktropica.

That’s the end of my adventure. I hope you enjoyed reading it!

My Place in Poptropica

My Place in Poptropica: Fierce Hippo

This is the My Place in Poptropica story of Fierce Hippo, who represents herself through her Poptropican and aims to finish all the islands. See below for details on sending in your own MPIP!

MPIP-FierceHippo

Hello fellow Poptropicans! My name is Fierce Hippo, or geekgreek512 (please don’t judge – I made that username in second grade XD ). This is my Poptropica story.

How It Began… and Faded

It all started when I was in second grade. There was a big thing that everyone would always be talking about: Poptropica. Curious, I asked myself, “What is this strange thing they’re talking about?” So I went on my humongous computer at home and typed in “Poptropica”, and sure enough, the website popped up. I made a username and password – the username I remember was “greekgeek” (I was OBSESSED with Percy Jackson books).

Sadly, after completing few islands throughout the span of one year, I didn’t come back for a long time.  After that, I made approximately three accounts and abandoned them whenever I forgot the usernames.  Around fifth grade, I stopped playing for the longest time.

How I Came Back

I came back to playing Poptropica just recently, at 14 years old, in high school already. I was bored on the weekends and didn’t have much friends to text to, so I decided, “Why not go to Poptropica!?” This time around, I didn’t have to go on my humongous computer – I could just go on my laptop.

I completely forgot my old usernames, and the greekgeek one didn’t have my regular password, so I made up a new username: this time, a play-on of my old username – geekgreek512 (and this is the one I use all the time now).

My Character’s Clothing

My character, Fierce Hippo, is always changing her clothing, but only certain parts. The headphones and shirt combo I got from Lunar Colony, one of my favorite islands. The beanie is from the Fall Fashion Outfit in the Store, and the emo bangs (as I like to call them XD) I customized from Slanted Fish (her username is slantedfish).  I bought the “Electrify” power from the Store, which I usually have on purple, my favorite color. The wings I got from the Demon outfit, and the guitar is from the Rock Star outfit, both also in the Store.

The reason you really can’t tell the gender of my Poptropican until I mentioned “she” is because in real life I am a female demiboy – a girl who sometimes feels partially boy. My Poptropican reflects who I am, but not in a completely realistic way. My hair isn’t short in a beanie, but that is the way I want to get it cut. I don’t play the guitar, but I really want to. Also, I am emo in real life, so the headphones represent that I’m always listening to music, which is definitely true. XD Sometimes, I’ll remove or add a new part, but usually, this is my go-to outfit.

What I Love Most About Poptropica

I love the seemingly endless islands and the different ways to combine clothing!  My favorite islands have to be Mythology (did I mention I was obsessed with Percy Jackson? 😉 ), Spy, Escape from Pelican Rock, Time Tangled, Lunar Colony, Virus Hunter, Shrink Ray, and Cryptids.

The hardest (longest, and most time-consuming) island to complete was Skullduggery Island because of the 1 million gold coins! But the other hardest one, that I have not completed yet, is Astro-Knights.  I love the concept and I am obsessed with space so that is probably one of my favorites as well.  I just can’t get past certain defenses in that game!

Goal

Obviously, to finish all the islands (at least that are available without membership)! However, perhaps unlike some Poptropicans, I am in no rush to complete all of them in one shot, or to do it quickly. I’m in a really tough high school and get lots of homework, so I’m not always free. When I am free, I like to go on Instagram or Goodreads (@marmalade4evs; you must’ve caught on by now that I love books) or my book blog. XD

But when I am free on the weekends, or after school, I go on here.  So I am far from reaching my goal to complete every island –besides, it’s the journey that matters the most; not the destination.

Thoughts with Bony Bones: Pop it, Lock it

(Hey Poptropicans! This is a guest post by Bony Bones, a Poptropican who wanted to share some of his ideas for Poptropica including: locking islands until previous storylines are played, more Lego, and mini-missions. Remember, they’re just ideas, not reality. Enjoy! –Slanted Fish 🐠)

thoughtspop bonybones

Hello fellow Poptropicans! This is Bony Bones here with some things that I wanted to share about Poptropica. (Btw, if you haven’t played Super Villain or Shrink Ray Island yet, be wary of spoilers.)

If you read my MPIP, then you know a little about me already, but for those who don’t know me, I decided to join the circus as a Mexican cyborg-pirate in a pink bunny suit  I have completed every island (so far…) and have been on Poptropica since 2007.

Anyway, *takes deep breath*, here I go.

1) Pop it, lock it

First of all, I think that Poptropica should organize islands into a timeline, locking certain islands until you reach a certain point in your Poptropica progression. This would be even better if there is an overarching storyline that progresses as you move from island to island. That means you’d have to beat certain islands in order to “unlock” other ones.

Like, it wouldn’t make sense for you to play Super Villain and then Mythology and Shrink Ray, because your first encounter with Zeus is on Mythology, not Super Villain, and Mr. Silva isn’t small until the end of Shrink Ray, but he’s already small in Super Villain.

2) Leggo for Lego

Second, remember Dr. Hare’s Lego campaign? Poptropica should try for a Lego set again, as Lego Poptropica would be totally brick-iful (wow, that was horrible… 😛 ). It would actually be even better if Poptropica joined in Lego Dimensions (the video game) because a Lego Poptropica world would be very cool.

For the Lego toy packs, they could do Dr. Hare and his Rabbot, or a pilot or other Poptropican with the blimp, or Binary Bard and his mech, etc. I just think that Lego Poptropica was too much of a pop-tastic (wow, I should just stop :D) idea to let it go* all together, even though it was out of Poptropica’s hands (the Lego CUUSOO team had sadly turned down the idea).

*I’ll give everyone just a moment if they need to suddenly break out into song.

All good, Elsa? Okay.

3) Mini missions

Finally, it would be great if Poptropica added mini-missions on different islands to give players something to do while waiting for the next island to come out. They could be about the length of the members only bonus quests on some islands, and one could come out every week or month or whatever Poptropica decides.

For example, you’ve beaten all the islands and are flying around the map to decide what to do now (and yes, I know that there are things to do like Realms and Mini-Quests and replaying islands, but just bear with me here). You see an exclamation mark near, say, 24 Carrot Island. You go and investigate, and find that whatever-her-name-is has lost her cat, Whiskers, again (so I remember her cat’s name but not hers…). You find Whiskers and the girl (oh, her name’s Charlie) gives you an exclusive outfit/item as a reward! Well, Feats of Speed on Home Island is something, at least – but it would be cool to play more Poptropica-story-like quests!

Well, that about wraps this post up, so until I pop in again, farewell!
