Free Birds ad: how do we address this turkey situation?

With cranberry sauce! There’s a new ad on Main Streets (I found it on Back Lot) for the upcoming 3D animated movie Free Birds, in theaters November 1! Upon entering the game, you’ll be given a red Turkey Costume. You have 60 seconds to hop around the hatchery to click on the ten little birds.

When you’re done, you’ll be awarded a Reggie Costume (looks similar to the red turkey but has a purple head) and S.T.E.V.E Power (the white egg-shaped machine descends onscreen).

Speaking of birds, let’s take a look at a few of the Daily Pops from this week, starting with the one of a feathered fiend of course:

Bird is the Word – Feathers will fly.

Whitewalls – A smooth ride, a roomy interior, and it gets 8 miles to the gallon!

Perfect Prescription – Find the cure for what ails you.

In other news, if you missed the Poptropica livestream with a few of the Creators this Friday, you can check out the archived video on Massivelytv! They mentioned some interesting things, which I posted about, most notably that there are plans to bring the online version of Poptropica to mobile devices in early 2014.

And lastly, the PHB’s 5th Annual Halloween Costume Competition will be ending soon, as winners will be announced next Thursday in time for Halloween! There’s still a few days left to squeeze in an entry – so do so if you dare!

Pop goes the Tootsie Roll, Babymouse, eggs & froyo

How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop? The new Tootsie Roll ad game (which I found on Early Poptropica) has you going around a forest to ask various animals the question. Beware of the bees and make sure you get to Mr. Cow, Turtle, Fox, & Owl before time is up! Speaking of which… this is what the fox says?!

When you get to Mr. Owl, he’ll bite his candy before getting to the center, and you’ll win a Tootsie Roll Pop (which comes in blue, orange, and red) and Tootsie Roll Rain Power (which rains down brown Tootsie Roll tubes)! Press the space bar while holding the pop and count how many licks it takes to reach the center (the number varies).

There’s also an ad for the Babymouse book series, which I found on Time Tangled. On the second floor, you can pick up the Queen of the World power, which simply flashes an image of Babymouse on top of the world.

And now for a couple of this week’s Daily Pop sneak peeks! In case the Tootsie Rolls weren’t enough to sate your appetite, we’ll be seeing eggs and ice cream, too…

Egg Hunt – Be careful. There’s no candy in there.

Soft Serve – We all scream for froyo.

Also, remember that the PHB is hosting its 5th Annual Halloween Costume Competition this month! We’ve been receiving lots of spectacularly spooky entries, but there’s still time to join in! Ten winners will be selected to be featured on the PHB homepage and Costumes page on Halloween (Oct 31st). In the meantime, let’s keep those entries coming!

Under the sea with the Little Mermaid, Dork Diaries and Desmond Pucket

Deep in the Poptropica sea, you might find some bored-looking fish who couldn’t care less about the diver in the bright blue – at least in this sneak peek. Maybe it’s for Poptropolis Games 2013?

There’s also a few ads currently in place around Poptropica. The Little Mermaid Diamond is on SOS Island and you can play a game to help Ariel find her voice. You’ll transform into a mermaid and swim with Flounder, and a bar at the top shows you how close you are. Avoid obstacles and watch your health in the top-left corner. At the end, you’ll win a Sebastian Follower and Dinglehopper power, which gives you a fork (press spacebar to make your or others’ hair go crazy).

Dork Diaries can be found on Back Lot and you can get the Dork Diaries Power upstairs, which gives you a baton (spacebar to have the DD logo flash onscreen).

Desmond Pucket can be found on Zomberry, and your task is to help him pull off a prank by avoiding hall monitors until you reach the cafeteria at the bottom. Desmond will tell you what to do along the way to help you get there safely. At the end, you’ll win a Desmond Costume and Ricky’s Whoopee Cushion (spacebar to plant one on the ground and step over it for the sound effect)!

Also, remember that Virus Hunter Island has been out for quite a while now! Have you checked your finished ranking on the World Champions Player Map yet? Where did you place? If you haven’t completed the island yet, be sure to check out our Virus Hunter Island Guide!

Ship Follower (for members) and Spirit Animals ad

get shipfollowerHey everyone! The last item prize from the vending machine on Virus Hunter Island during Early Access is now available – unfortunately, this one’s also only for members. If that’s you, be sure to pick up your free Ship Follower so you can take the Panacea with you anywhere you go.

For everyone else, Virus Hunter Island releases this Thursday, September 26! Members will also get to play the long-awaited bonus quest starting then, and the Virtual Virus Costume members’ bonus will be pulled from the Store. Remember, we’ve got a Virus Hunter Island Guide right here on the PHB.

Also, there’s an ad building for Scholastic’s Spirit Animals, the fantasy book series. (I found it on Ghost Story Island.) Inside, it’s a common room where you can see other players, but also be able to customize and interact with various characters from the books and their powers.

spiritanimalsad

On the first floor is Abeke (left) and her Uraza power which temporarily turns everyone into a leopard, Conor (right) and his Briggan Storm which flashes lightning and brings his wolf on the screen, and next to him a green-and-yellow-plated winged helmet you can customize.

On the second floor is Rollan (right) whom you can talk to for the Essix (hawk) Follower, as well as Meilin (left) and her Stealthy Jhi power which temporarily makes the room blink black. On the third floor are links to the Spirit Animals website.

What do you say your spirit animal is? Mine, of course, is the almighty fish. 😀

Wander and hunt for Poptropica’s 6th birthday treasures!

Poptropica celebrates its sixth birthday this month, and as the Creators pointed out, that means it’s old enough to sign up for a Poptropica account! Except it’s Poptropica, so that would be silly.

Anyway, you can pick up a free color-changing 6th b’day balloon in the Store, find balloons floating in the common rooms, and if you pop the occasionally-appearing “6” balloon, you’ll get the 6th Birthday Costume* with a snazzy spinning hat! (Press spacebar and the 6 will pop out and spin.)

*also available in the Store for members (limited edition)

Also, there are a couple new mini-ads on Main Streets. A Wander Over Yonder (Fridays at 9p/8c on Disney) video ad can be found on Early Poptropica – watch the video for a Wander Over Yonder Hat!

Back Lot Island has a building for Treasure Hunters, an illustrated novel by James Patterson and Chris Grabenstein (you can read ten chapters for free!). You can claim two free prizes in the middle of the second floor – a Pirate Attack Power and Undersea Diving Power.

By the way, if you haven’t already redeemed it, you can enter the promo code POP6BIRTHDAY for a free Applebee’s Apple Pie Costume. Happy birthday, Poptropica!
