The elusive iPad handheld: how it came to be, and how I’m going to put the rumors to rest (UPDATED)

Blake tab

What’s popping, Poptropicans? I just wanted to pop in to say, there is no promo code for the iPad handheld – because it comes from an ad.

Those who have been lucky to get it (including myself & Poptropica blogger Nameless UnDEFiNed) have reported that it was obtained from watching a video ad on a non-SUI (islands without sound), such as Skullduggery. You can friend me (Blake) at mickety2 to see proof, or check out the picture to the right. (update: it’s no longer in my hand, but the picture should be proof enough!)

But now the plot thickens — another Poptropican, H.C.M, reports that he emailed Poptropica asking about the tablet handheld and was told it didn’t exist, completely contradicting the evidence above. Here’s the reply he got (but was it faked? the link to the Creators’ Blog is wrong):

doesn't exist

(Hey, at least the PHB was referenced – kind of!) In addition to the above proof, Nameless notes that the SWF for the tablet handheld is uploaded on Poptropica’s servers, meaning the item has definitely been created. The item has since disappeared from my inventory, although I still retain the tablet in my Poptropican’s hand. (update: it’s gone; see above)

app

Remember what happened with the Virus Hunter Island promo game, Nano-Combat Training? Brave Tomato discovered it in the Store early, and there was even an ad for it on the homepage, but it was pulled down for a while before it came back for real again. If this situation is anything like that, then maybe the Creators are just denying their mistake of accidentally releasing it early and are possibly planning to bring it back at a later date. I certainly hope so, at least! 😛

Also, HP has found the video stand for the card in Poptropica’s files! Here’s what it looks like:

However, the comments have told me that this ad is no longer available, and has been replaced by the Dragons: Defenders of Berk ad. Hopefully we’ll see it return soon…

Ads – Dragons: Defenders of Berk & The Pirate Fairy

Hey Poptropicans, there are a couple of new ads on Poptropica’s Main Streets right now! On Monster Carnival, I found this video ad for Dragons: Defenders of Berk, a TV series now on DVD, based on the film How to Train Your Dragon. Watching the video gives you the Terrible Terror Follower.

Also, on Mocktropica, there’s an ad building with a game for Disney’s The Pirate Fairy, a new Tinker Bell movie coming to Blu-ray and Digital HD April 1. Anyway, head inside and you’ll find out that all the fairies have lost their powers. You’ll be sent to sneak around on a pirate ship, and every time you see a pirate, you’ll need to click on Tinker Bell to blast them away. At the bottom of the ship, you’ll find the thieves who stole the blue fairy dust, and you’ll win two prizes.

From the Pirate Fairy ad, you’ll win an unnamed power (which simply advertises the movie on your screen) and an untitled costume. I think the dragon follower from the other ad was cooler… 😛

Anyway, enjoy the prizes! 😀

App updates, NPC advancements, and hair-raising ads

Get ready to be hit by a ton of updates…

Poptropica iPad App Updates

I have a lot of things to go over concerning the Poptropica iPad App. First of all, it’s coming out for Androids and iPhones soon! Pixel first posted about it on his blog, getting the info from Poptropica Official Twitter, but the info page for the app also houses the fact:

currentsupportai

This means that, if I’m not beat to it by someone else, I’ll be able to make a review of the app soon! 😀 And, if you haven’t noticed, the Poptropica homepage now has a bunch of NPCs running by — with iPads in their hands! 😛 There are rumors that there is a hidden code in the app to redeem the iPad handheld, but rest assured, these are all rumors! No one really has any code.

new

And if that wasn’t enough, the Main Theme for the app has been uncovered on the Behind the Scenes page! Such melodic awesomeness. 😛 Jeff Heim also uploaded a new track to his Soundcloud — the Super Power Island Main Theme! You might recognize it from the app trailer.

You may also run into a survey link when you log in – but if you say that you don’t have an iPad, the survey abruptly ends. 😛

100 Times the Charm on Early Poptropica

My friend Pixel (whom I mentioned earlier, isn’t he on the ball? 😛 ) and I recently hit 100 replays on Early Poptropica. If you don’t believe us, my username is “puterpop”, and his is private — but you can check out the picture below for proof. I stopped at a 100, he went on and accomplished bigger feats. 😛

And speaking of medallions, the Survival Island – Episode 1 medallion has been added!

New NPCs

I might just be going crazy, but auto-generated NPCs (like on the Main Street of Early Poptropica) have been looking a little more complex lately. I think they’ve been updated with new clothing — the combinations are just different. Take a look and decide for yourself —

coolnpcs

Now, think about it; have you ever seen an NPC (non-player character) with freckles, or those neat glasses that the first one has? Have you ever seen the 6th one’s kind of hair on an NPC — have your ever seen it anywhere, actually? Look at their mouths — they’re supposed to be generated by the start page’s options. NPCs are becoming more advanced, so it seems. What do you think?

The Poptropica Police Network

theif

I just want to mention a current blog project I’m working on called the Poptropica Police Network. It’s different than any other blog, and I’d be really glad if you could check it out. 🙂

I’m currently hosting a contest there for the 1,000 hits that we just achieved. I hope you can participate! 😀

Check out everything else about the blog on these posts. 😉

Advertisement Updates: Mixels & Muppets

You may have heard about the new LEGO Mixels ad on Poptropica, but in addition to the two Mixel powers you get by going into the advertisement building, there’s also a costumizable Mixel Mask (alliteration ftw) card, featuring three different Mixels – grey, yellow, red:

mixelmasks

I gotta say — these masks are pretty cool! They make up for the shabby “power” cards you can find in the building. 😛

You can also get the new Constantine Criminal Power by watching the trailer for the “Muppets: Most Wanted” movie. I found the ad on Time Tangled Island. When you press the “Steal Hair” button, a clip from the movie plays, then it cuts back to the screen.

You’ll now have a mole and suitcase, while everyone else on the page has a lack of hair! Hey, Muppets? Have you been getting ideas from Poptropica? 😛

muppetprizeinfo

What’s really cool is that you can press Ctrl+Shift+S (not on SUIs), which changes your skin color but lets you keep the mole and suitcase forever! It does something strange in the Costumizer, however. 😛

keepmole

Also, don’t press Ctrl+Shift+S if you don’t want to lose your original skin color. If you do mistakenly change your skin color, you can always change it via the Colorizer card in the store. 😉

So, yeah. I hope you enjoyed this… thing. 😛 If you did, tell me in the comments!

And the meme of the day is…

To introduce the new ad, that’s what I’m here to do…

…and it really makes me happy, to introduce to you…

THE MUPPETS MOST WANTED AD! YAYYYYYY! *flails*

muppets ad

What’s popping, Poptropicans? Blake here, and today’s post is on the new Muppets Most Wanted video ad! All you have to do is watch the movie trailer, and you’ll get the Kermit Spirit Hoodie:

kermit

Also, it says to come back next week for the Constantine Criminal Power! This power looks like it steals the hair of other Poptropicans, so it looks like either a) it’s useful for uncostumizable hair, or b) we get to be Director D. Oh wait. I’m still flailing. *stops flailing* Sorry, avid Muppets fan here.

UPDATE: The Constantine Criminal Power is now available on the ad – just watch the video to get it! Though all it does is give you a mole and a briefcase…

I myself attended an advance screening of Muppets Most Wanted. I would give you pics, but I’m under pure contract not to reveal anything. Blake out! *poof*

Wanna mix up a Mixels Max?

What’s popping, Poptropicans? Blake here, back off vacation, coming at you with a very blocky Poptropica ad. This time it’s an ad for LEGO’s new line of Mixels, which go for about 5 bucks at any local store. Pick up one today! One place you can find this ad is Main Street of Mocktropica.

electroids zap

So anyway, this ad features two powers: the Cragster Stomp (below) and the Electroids Zap (above). These are both based on two of the three Mixel tribes. Ideally, I’d like to see them come out with more powers for the ad space when Mixels Series 2 and 3 come out.

cragster stomp

There’s also a quiz you can take and win… absolutely NOTHING. As usual. *rolls eyes*

That’s pretty much all you can do in this ad, so on to what the powers actually do. I decided to test these out on some unsuspecting Islanders on Red Dragon, but you can do it wherever you want…

The Cragster Stomp transforms you into a Cragster, which is the black Mixel tribe. You stomp, which shakes the ground and knocks out every Poptropican in your wake. The Electroid Zap transforms you into the yellow Mixel and you shoot static. All in all, pretty lame prizes compared to what we’ve gotten in the past. So, this is Blake, signing off. Stay popping, Poptropicans.
