Back Lot Island

Logo-motive: Back Lot Island

We’ve probably all seen the iconic clapboard for Back Lot Island (and if not, it’s in the current header and sidebar, which also lists our Back Lot Island Guide if you need it). Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process of making the island logo from the artists at Poptropica:

Pretty cool! The finished product is a mix of the first few, but personally I like the film reel design – maybe #6, but perhaps with an outline on the circles like #7, though the font on #5 is also interesting. Which ones do you guys like (or dislike)? 🙂

In other news: the LEGO CUUSOO project is getting close to 6,000 supporters (for which we’re promised a new Dr. Hare wallpaper), and the Island Creator Kit is coming on August 1, as the PHB previously reported. May the 4th be with you! ;D

The Many-Splendored Back Lot: now open to all

It’s time to make some movie magic, ’cause Back Lot Island is now available for everyone to play! As promised on the PHB header, we’ve got your back with the Back Lot Island Guide and other resources.

Back Lot Island

EDIT: The first ten public finishers list is now out! Congrats to these top ten! (Also, there’s a typo on #7 – it’s Pathfinders, not Pathfinder. And no Flying Squids this time, sadly… D: )

Whether you’ve already seen world premiere of The Many-Splendored Zephyr or if you’re just getting started but have already picked out a name for your sweet ride (ie. the cart you get to drive around), you may find our Back Lot Island trivia interesting. Obiwan2324 told us about this fun fact:

At Soundstage 2, outside of the recording studio, there’s a stage prop of a moon with a rocket in its eye. This is a reference to French director Georges Méliès’s movie “A Trip to the Moon” which is one of the earliest movies ever created.

One more thing: you get to go inside Kirk Strayer’s trailer! Don’t miss it. Anyway, that’s the big news for today – now go enjoy some film fun out in the back lot.

Back Lot Island, Store

Back Lot Island for everyone this Thursday? Me likey!

Hey everyone! Just a friendly reminder that Back Lot Island is coming out for the public this Thursday, April 25th at 2pm EST, so non-members don’t have long to wait!

You may want to keep our Back Lot Island Guide handy, whether you’re going for one of the non-member top-ten spots or just need a bit of help. There’s even pictures!

Our Back Lot Island discussion page is the place to go for Back Lot trivia, album photos like the one on the right, and links to island goodies such as the Map!

Finally, if you’re a member, don’t forget to collect your members-only goods for this island in the Store. There’s the Silent Treatment power and the Clapboard item, but the Director Costume will be gone by Thursday after early access is over.

DrHare5000 Promo Code: Dr. Hare’s Deluxe Balloons

Dr. Hare Deluxe BalloonsDr. Hare’s been hyping about this for long enough… and it’s paid off because the halfway goal of 5,000 supporters for Poptropica’s LEGO CUUSOO project has finally been achieved!

As promised, the balloons are here – just enter the promo code DRHARE5000 when you log in or visit the Store to receive the Dr. Hare Deluxe Balloons, featuring Evil Chubby Bunny With Bucktooth and Evil Bunny Drone Face Insignia.

Now now, our favorite evil bunny has made it very clear that it would be extremely shameful if those not worthy of this glorious inflatable prize dared to claim it, so for the sake of good ethics, if you HAVEN’T voted yet and you want these balloons, go support it now. If you’re under 13, get an adult to vote for you. I mean, you COULD just skip this step and get the balloons, but… for shame, for shame. *shakes head slowly*

The LEGO CUUSOO Team also posted this comment on the project idea page:

Hi PopCreators,

Congratulations on passing the halfway point on LEGO CUUSOO with your Poptropica: Dr. Hare’s Lair project! Your project and concept models are focused and well-built. It’s not hard to imagine this as an official LEGO product. All in all, great presentation.

Best wishes as you reach for 10,000 supporters on LEGO CUUSOO.

Yay! Halfway there!

In other news, Poptropica’s Official Tips & Tricks App now has a walkthrough guide for Night Watch. However, this being a site that is partially based on creating Poptropica walkthroughs, it has to be said that the PHB has a Night Watch Island Guide as well, so… you know where to go!

New Islands, PHB Sneak Peeks, Virus Hunter Island

PHB Sneak Peeks: Up next is… Virus Hunter Island!

Thanks to PHB reader Aang, we’ve got the name for our next Poptropica island – Virus Hunter Island! It turns out that Poptropica artist Nasan Hardcastle has posted pictures on his blog for characters he has designed, including this image below of what looks like characters for the next island:

EDIT: About a day after this PHB post, the image above was taken down. Looks like someone’s been checking up on us! But they can’t take back what we now know. ;D

(By the way, check out Nasan’s site, Soft-Shack, for more cool Poptropica artwork.) A Whois search for virushunterisland.com confirms that Poptropica has owned the domain since March 12, 2013, and it even re-directs to Poptropica. Hmmm…

You may remember or have noticed the Daily Pop sneak peeks featuring Poptropicans exploring the human body’s interior, which shows us that the next island, Virus Hunter, will involve exploring a Poptropican’s insides. Plus, from the characters above, we can see it has something to do with a gym. Cardio exercise time!

Now… what about Dr. Lange? (First of all, is she named after Poptropica designer Ashley Lange? Creators’ inside joke, perhaps?) Silver Wolf and BT think she may be a suspicious character (evidently, red goggles + lab coat = PURE EVIL). But who knows?

So… Virus Hunter Island! Get excited like an electron in an excited state! (*ahem* chemistry joke) Stay tuned to the PHB for more updates!
