My Place in Poptropica

My Place in Poptropica: Kassi (Purple Tiger)

This is theĀ MyĀ Place in Poptropica story of Kassi, or Purple Tiger, whose Poptropica mission is to complete every island (she did it once!).Ā See belowĀ for how to sendĀ in your own MPIP!

2011 |Ā My 12-Year-Old Self’s Dream

As a kid – before I became a teenager – I played a lot of games online:Ā Club Penguin, the Pixie Hollow multiplayer game, and various mini games on the Nickelodeon website. I was around 12 when Poptropica was introduced to me.

I was at my aunt’s house, just doing my own thing, when I noticedĀ her son playing a really cool-looking game on the computer. This was about the time when Red Dragon Island came out, and he was playing it. I asked him what it was, and he immediately lit up and began telling me about the awesome game that would later take up a lotĀ of my time. He helped me set up an account and taught me how to play.

The first island I played and completed was Red Dragon Island. I thought it was so cool that I could play a game based off of one of my favorite book series! Soon after that, I was hooked. I don’t quite remember my player name or really anything about that account, but I do remember using all of my free time to play it.

Some time later, I had completed all of the islands they had available at the time. It was a bittersweet moment; I had achieved my 12-year-old self’s dream, but in doing so, I had nothing left to do on Poptropica – so I stopped playing.

2013–2016 | The Awakening

Later, when I was 14 years old and thinking I was queen of the world as IĀ reveled in my new ā€œteenagership,ā€ I started reminiscing my old life as a little kid (which was literally two years prior :D). I was thinking of all of the things that I used to do –Ā and that’s when I remembered Poptropica.

I quickly took to my laptop and started up the old game. I was a little discouraged when I realizedĀ I had forgotten my old username and password. I tried every single combinationĀ I thoughtĀ 12-year-old me would use but came up with nothing. So, I made a new account with the name Purple Tiger and the username Kassi_Loves15 (which I still roll my eyes at… seriously, I really wish 14-year-old me came up with something better).

Once I was back in the game, I was greeted with some new islands, and from then on I was hooked again. I spent the entire summer of 2013, and the years to follow, trying to complete every island there was, trying so hard to accomplish what I had two years before. And I did it – well, sort of. Poptropica later made some islandsĀ for members only, and it was just my luck that I hadn’t completed some of them and couldn’t get a membership. 😦

2017 |Ā Waiting on Worlds

Now, I am eagerly awaiting Poptropica Worlds, playing the members only islands whenever they are featured during the Islands of the Month, and occasionally replaying some of my old favorites. I check the Creators’ Blog and some others every other day, or at least once a week, toĀ keep up with all of the big news. I’m still loving Poptropica as much as the day I first played, and I’m so happy that my cousin introduced it to me.

Pop 5: Most Dangerous/Scary Islands

(Hey Poptropicans! This is a guest post written by Magic Snowball, a Poptropica player in the community. Please note that this post represents onlyĀ the author’s opinion, and contains some spoilers for some Poptropica islands.Ā Enjoy! ā€“šŸ )

pop5 scary islands

Hey everyone! It’s me, Magic Snowball, that weirdo who hangs around the Poptropica community. And today I’m here to do a Pop 5 – my first guest post! What’s the topic, you ask? I present…

Poptropica’s Top 5 Most Dangerous/Scary Islands! *cue dramatic music*

Of course, all the islands on this list are going toĀ involve something… er, dangerous… and scary. Like going inside somewhere dangerous, getting jump-scared (Jersey Devil, anyone?) and so on. And yes, I know Poptropicans are basically OP super-humans, but still, they do some pretty crazy stuff…

So let’s begin the Pop 5!

#5: Twisted Thicket Island

twisted thicket2

Behold! The island where you must travel into this creepy forest, get beaten up by all these creatures, then save the forest and creatures that beat you up! So, why did I choose this island? Well, firstly, it’s not only dangerous, but scary. I mean, look at the NĆøkken! That thing is nightmare is fuel… *shivers* And, like I said, you get beat up by these other woodland creatures, and then you have to stop an entire team of construction vehicles! If that isn’t dangerous, I don’t know what is.

Poptropica rates this island easy, and it might be, but it’s definitely still scary and dangerous… *hides from the NĆøkken*

#4: Astro-Knights Island

tumblr_inline_msf7q586ax1qz4rgp

Aliens, frustration, flying in zero-gravity! What could be more fun than that? This island, according to many people (myself included) isĀ one of the hardest to complete. And it’s also pretty dangerous. I mean, you’re flying into space to save a princess from a half-robot creepo. And space is not fun. There are things trying to kill you on every planet (except for the Pewter Moon), and even in the space around them.

This isn’t the scariest island, but creatures like the Mother Phoenix are pretty creepyĀ (to me at least). This island’s a little too dangerous to be left off the list, but it’s not the most terrifying. En garde!

#3: Survival Island

survival-info-03

Survival Island! This five-part island is full of fun things like being chased by a psychopath, then catching said psychopath! Now, this island doesn’t have the traditional “scary” things like monsters or flaming meteorites, butĀ it is realistic. There’s the element of survival (well, duh), hunting, and animals. You always have to be on the move, and you can’t trust anyone. That’s why I consider it pretty dangerous. Plus, you’ve got someone hunting you and so they can stuff you in their trophy collection, which is pretty messed up!

#2: Virus Hunter Island

vh6

Welcome to Glitch Island – uh, I mean, Virus Hunter Island! Guess what, kids? You’re not a trained pilot. So what happens? You get to drive through someone’s body in a microscopic ship to stop a killer virus! Isn’t that awesome?

Alright, seriously, this island is pretty scary and dangerous. You’re stopping a killer virus from killing every human on Earth. Plus, the virus itself is pretty scary. I don’t wanna talk ā€˜bout it… we’ll just say the island is full of danger. PDC, green spider-like killers, dangerous grape soda, electric nerves, falafel… the list goes on!

And now, it’s time for the most dangerous, most scary island on allllll of Poptropica….

*drumroll* It’s…

#1: Mythology Island

mythology-cerberus

Okay, this island and Virus Hunter had me a bit stumped, but in the end I chose this island to top the list, ā€˜cause it’s just that dangerous, and the peril you’re inĀ feels worse (though it’s still really close). Dude. Anyway…. You arrive on this island, where there’s gods and creatures and stuff. You go to a tree, and pick an apple. Then, Santa Claus – uh, Zeus – shows up, and offers you immortality! But first, you have to get some stuff for him so he can take over Poptropica, but you don’t realize. Yay!

So you, a mortal, do a bunch of dangerous things, like enter the Labyrinth where barely anyone survives. According to mythology, anyway. Oh, not dangerous enough? Then you have to go to the freaking Underworld, and put flipping Cerberus to sleep, as well as crossing the River Styx. And it gets worse! At the end, you have to fight a god – not just anyone, but the king of the gods. Nuts, huh? Too many times you could die on this island.

If you don’t beat Zeus, all of Poptropica is screwed! That’s scary in itself. Plus, there are some other creepy things on this island, like those Hercules fan girls. Oh, and the Underworld, the sphinx, the minotaur, the hydra, and it goes on…

Alright guys! Those islands were the Pop 5 of scariest and most dangerous. Now it’s time for some honorable mentions!

HM: Cryptids Island

cryptids18

This island, if on the list, would be #6. It’s definitely got the scary element (Jersey Devil and the Chupacabra), and it’s dangerous, but not the most dangerous. Still a good island, though.

HM: Monster Carnival Island

mcarnival

The lost island! Yep, definitely creepy (especially that lab… oh gods), and monster-filled! Though it isn’t particularly dangerous- really only the monsters are dangerous. Oh, and Ringmaster Raven, who tries to hypnotise everyone. But no, it’s not the most dangerous, so I left it out.

HM: Super Villain Island

svi 5

Guess what guys? Zeus is back, and he’s more annoying than ever! This time, he’s kidnapped four super villains, and we have to enter their dangerous dreams! Yay! Then, at the end, we have to fight Zeus again, and the fight is more life-threatening than Mythology Island’s! Although it’s dangerous, it just isn’t scary enough, so I left it out.

Alrighty, ladies and gents! That’s all I have to say for this list, so thank you for reading and I’ll see you around in the Poptropica community! šŸ™‚

New Pop Drop: Cavern Chases, Pretty Places, and Many a House Prop

Hey Poptropicans! Slanted Fish here with some CAVERNOUS news.

Prepare to be amazed… we’ve got a LOTĀ of Poptropica Worlds sneak peeks today, featuring the rumored (now confirmed) Crisis Caverns Island, the new animated running style, and some furniture/decor for the upcoming player houses!

Before we begin, I’d like to acknowledge that the pictures below come straight from the official Creators, who recently contacted many bloggers in the Poptropica community with a Pre-Beta Worlds Kit and invited them to share its contentsĀ with everyone. While we can’t give away the kit itself, we can show you the amazing artistry within it, which you’ll find below. Click the images to view them in full size.

Among the sneak peeks is this look at a chase scene in Crisis Caverns, with elements like a relentlessĀ boulder and worm pits – the monster worm from an earlier sneak peek!

TheChase

At someĀ point in the caves, you’ll encounter a pit of magma – and more of thoseĀ spaghetti worm creatures! (Also, what is that nose-shaped light spot on the character’s face? The new avatar doesn’t show any noses, but did he get his ripped off or is he just weirdly sunburnt? šŸ˜› In any case, I’m digging the new running animation.)

TheChase2

But Crisis Caverns isn’t all danger and running-for-your-life madness. Check out this gorgeous, serene palace area – possibly the lair of the Mole King from a much earlier sneak peek, though it was mentioned that thatĀ character idea was scrapped. (This island has been in development for years!)

ThePalace

Looking on the brighter side, we also see this exterior of Crisis Caverns, possibly the Main Street area (first scene). Signposts label this as Caldera State Park, possibly named after the Valles Caldera National Preserve in New Mexico, or simply after a caldera, which is a large volcanic crater usually formed by a major eruption.

In this picture, we see some bison, a cabin, the entrance to an underground mine, the visitor’s center with some parkĀ flags, wax pots (whatever that is), and a signpost to a geyser named Old Reliable (most likely named after Old Faithful in Yellowstone).

CrisisCaverns

Last of the sneak peek pictures, and unrelated to the rest, we have a look at some decorative items for player houses. From a Booga shark statueĀ to at least twelve different styles of chairs (not all pictured), and even wallpaper designs, there’s a ton to select from. Which ones will you put in your home?

HouseStoreItems

The Poptropica Creator Captain Crawfish also included a letter to recipients of the Pre-Beta Kit, which talks about what we can look forward to in Poptropica Worlds:

Poptropica Worlds is an all-new game, built from the ground up to give you the Poptropica you’ve dreamed of. That means a seamless gameplay experience between your web and mobile devices, with a single account. A re-imagined interface that ensures the smoothest controls possible no matter where you’re playing. Even richer customization options for your Poptropican. All this and still the same humor, adventure, and fun that you expect from Poptropica.

Want examples? How about…

  • Your very own house! Decorate your space to be as unique and creative as you are.
  • Deeper options to customize your Poptropican’s look, and new choices arriving all the time.
  • Crisis Caverns: our grandest island adventure yet, with astonishing underground mysteries and creatures you have to see to believe.
  • Enjoy new gameplay mechanics, and feast your eyes on jaw-dropping art and animation.
  • Keep your account! Your classic Poptropica login will automatically work on Poptropica Worlds.

All in all, I think this #NewPopDrop is looking and sounding spectacular, and I’m excited to get to play Poptropica Worlds this spring! Are you??

Home Island

The new theater showings may make you fidget more…

Hey Poptropicans!Ā First of all: Happy Easter! 🐣🐣 Poptropica Worlds has yet to beĀ risen, but in the meantime, the Movie Theater is here to be resurrected fromĀ your forgotten memories…

We’ll get to the news after Poptropica’s Easter bunny, Dr. Hare, does his hoopy dance. šŸ‡

Preludes are ridonkulous and I should just get to the point? Okay, okay…

The Movie Theater on Home IslandĀ (both online and on the mobile app) has been updated withĀ some new videos, including the following (as noted on theĀ Creators’ Blog):

  • šŸ˜Ž Schaeffer McLean — See this 12-year-old skateboarder go on awesome adventures
  • 😁 Batman Unlimited — Watch as Batman swings into action to save Gotham City
  • šŸ¤“ eScape — Check out this science fiction, video game-based adventure
  • šŸ˜‚ Fidgetmore — Ā Giggle with this animated series starring Fidgetmore School’s teenagers

There is something else that they haven’t mentioned: each video is nowĀ preluded by a 15-second ad for the Nickelodeon series Hunter Street, and there doesn’t seem to be a way to escape it. It’s unnecessary to seeĀ it over and over again, and I strongly urge Poptropica to change this so itĀ doesn’t need to be viewed more than once.

The lineup for the theaterĀ videos has also changed a little, with the Types of Teachers one at the forefront, and it no longerĀ autoplays (although the prelude ad does). This is an improvement from the PHB’s last post about the theater, and I even mentioned that being one of the better videos, so it’s great to see that recognized! However, I still hope to see more improvement with regards to categorization of the videos to make it easier to find something tailored to each person’s tastes and demographic.

Anyway, what do you think ofĀ the new videos and changes to the theater? What kinds of videos would you like to see? Comment here with your thoughts! The Creators like hearing feedback from the players, so remember that your input matters. šŸ˜‰

Stay popping!

My Place in Poptropica

My Place in Poptropica: Torterrified

This is theĀ MyĀ Place in Poptropica story of Torterrified, or Hyper Eel, who has had a Poptropica song stuck in her head for years, has been playing on and off, and now has her own Poptropica blog.Ā See belowĀ for how to sendĀ in your own MPIP!

2007 | Poptropica Party

It all started at my best friend’s birthday party. All of my friends were surrounding the desktop playing Poptropica, but I was playing PokĆ©mon Diamond. They told me to come check it out, so I did, but I thought it looked stupid. The only game on the computer I was interested in at the time was Club Penguin.

But since I had nobody to play with, I decided to just give it a try. I sat down and made an account by the name of Scary Peanut, who had unkempt hair and buck teeth. I giggled at how ridiculous she looked, and since I didn’t know how to change it, I jumped straight into the blimp.

I landed on Early Poptropica and found all the missing items, but I didn’t know you had to talk to the NPCs at the end, so I exited the game without saving my account.

Then I forgot about it… untilĀ a few years later.

2010–2014 | Reignited

I had lost interest in Poptropica after that day, but that changed when I sawĀ saw someone at school playing Wimpy Wonderland Island.

At the time, Diary of a Wimpy Kid wasĀ one of my favourite book series. Feeling inspired, I logged back into my Scary Peanut account, and this time, I completed all the islands. I finally figured out how to finish Early Poptropica, too!

Yet,Ā even after finishing all the islands and getting a membership, I still felt… bored. Less people were in the common rooms, and islands were taking more time than usual to come out. But I didn’t want to give up on this game just yet.

So I entered ‘Poptropica’ into myĀ search bar to see if there was anything left to do, and that’s whenĀ I saw it: the Poptropica Help Blog. I clicked the link and was amazed. From that moment on, I’d check this website every day, and even joined the PHC Xat and met some awesome people, who I’m still friends with to this day. šŸ˜‰

I was in the community for a few years back then, until the arrival of SUIs (sound-updated islands). I wasn’t a fan of the bigger screens, music and glitchy controls, so I decided to quit. Still,Ā there was always this weird feeling in the back of my head.

2017 | Nostalgia

I realised that the weird feeling was a song. I had no idea where it was from, but I remembered a few notes from it. I spent months looking through soundtracks of all the games I played as a kid until I finally remembered: it was from Poptropica!

Wanting to get back into the game,Ā I quickly registered an account with the name Hyper Eel, withĀ the username Torterrified. I was shocked to see that Poptropica would soon turn into Poptropica Worlds. Nonetheless, I played through every island until I finally found the song: it was Fiona’sĀ violin melody from Ghost Story Island. I admit, I nearly cried. This song has held a special place in my heart for years now.

I’ve also recently decided to pick up Poptropica blogging. You can check out my site here:Ā hypereelspoptropicablog.wordpress.com. Thanks for reading!
