Glitches, Survival Island

Quick Survival Ep. 3 glitch alerts & fixes

Hi Gs,

There are a couple of glitches concerning Survival: Episode 3 that I wanted to mention, mainly because they’re preventing people from finishing the island…

The first glitch is the lemon glitch, and it occurs when you break the lemon box onto the ground. You won’t be able to click on the lemon and obtain it no matter what. To fix this, go to another scene, such as the nearby ad street, then come back. It will have reset, and you can pick up the lemon.

The second is a little harder to fix — it happens when you try to assemble the radio while on the radio tower scene. When you do, the wires that are necessary to fix it don’t show up. Try logging out and back in, then trying to assemble it on a different scene. If that doesn’t work, you’ll have to restart the episode and assemble the radio in a different area than the radio tower.

If you have any more game-breaking glitches, share them with us in the comments. You can also find the Survival: Episode 3 guide here on the PHB. Hope this helps!

Monster Carnival Island, The Missing Link

The Missing Link: Monster Adventure

Hi Gs,

Am I back to talk about Monster Carnival? Not quite. I’m here to talk about an explanation to a mystery about Monster Carnival – but it goes deeper than just that.

strangeMonsterAdventureThe image above was found inside the “gameplay” file for Poptropica – back in the day, they used to keep a lot in that file, including unreleased material. First of all, acknowlegde that the “Monster” text used in the logo is the same font used in the Fact Monster logo. That’s where things start to get interesting…

monsterA1As some of you may recollect, there was a plethora of unreleased monster costumes that were leaked quite a long time ago. This was before the store, and so many people believed that they were for the forgotten Monster Carnival island (read the full story here). This may not have been the case. View the image below — see the (uncanny) resemblance between the last two images?

monsterA2There were obviously plans with Fact Monster in the primary years of Poptropica — remember the Fact Monster bubbles in Time Tangled Island, the island which was supposed to be followed by Monster Carnival island? And did you notice that the bubbles were taken out in the updated version? Almost like covering up tracks…

monsterA3The last point is the creator. Fact Monster is the only creator not to be found in an island — and he’s a real creator with a real life personnel, Jess M. Brallier. What I’m getting at is that there might have been a Fact Monster character in an island, and they had just never released the island, thus never releasing the character. The special prefix “Fact Monster” is owned by a number of accounts, mainly “dummy1063“, previously thought to be the creator’s account, but later found to be owned by PHB viewer, Pixel. The fact (no pun intended) that Fact Monster is a prefix proves that there were once plans for a Fact Monster character… And by the way, the Fact Monster prefix shows up in friends, so that means it passes through a special name filter for only creator accounts.

monsterA4“Monster Adventure” may have been a preliminary Monster Carnival, but what if Monster Adventure was an island or mini-quest based around Fact Monster? The leaked monster outfits have the likeness of Fact Monster (actually, one of the costumes is an exact replica), and the logo uses the same font that the Fact Monster uses.  This still doesn’t solve the mystery, but it sure makes the answer a lot brighter. What do you think? Tell me in the comments. 🙂

PHB Quickie: “Survival: Hook, Line, and Sinker” Overview

Hi Gs,

Survival Episode 2: Hook, Line, & Sinker is now my favorite episode out of the two (3’s overview later :P). It has an awesome atmosphere, an interactive environment, and ominous story development that we’ll talk about later. You can check out the last overview for Survival here, or view the PHB’s Guide for both episode 1 and 2 of Survival!

s2Over

There’s definitely a difference between the two episodes, but the one thing I like best about this one is the correlation. It really makes the environment different from the last episode, yet seamless and politically correct. I know, you’re probably asking When has Poptropica ever been politically correct, but to my surprise, it’s being just that! The episode starts with you climbing down the same cliff that you could jump off of in the first episode. The log that you could push off the cliff in the first episode is awaiting you at the bottom.

There’s also a new layer of interactivity that has been sort of dying off over the years. When I say interactivity, I mean a clickable adventure, with animations when you click stuff. Compared to other recent islands, this one has a surprisingly higher amount. And by the way, this type of clickable idea was inspired by Humongous Entertainment, an old game making company which helped foster my love of Poptropica. In fact, Poptropica is sort of following in that company’s footsteps in a lot of ways.

As for the soundtrack, again, Jeff Heim is amazing, but other than that the tracks are sort of following in the episode’s footsteps. These episodes are entirely experimental, and I don’t expect too many of them to be released, or for islands to become extinct — remember Arabian Nights Island, scheduled to come out later this year?

The story isn’t revealed completely, it just teases the viewer — in the awesome outro scene for the island, a camera hidden in the trees zooms out, and a silhouetted figure is shown watching you and the rest of the island from a panel of screens. From here, we already know what the plot is, but I really like how unique the story telling in this island is — MA doesn’t have cut scenes, and Survival is one of the first to use them as a main part of the game play.

Anyway, that’s just my Bitcoin. 😉 I rate this episode 4.5 out of 5 — not only does it have an awesome story, but it also has continuity that surprised me.

New Atlantis posters, deleted ad rares, & map changes

Hi Gs, what isn’t happening in the world of Poptropica? Prepare to have your mind blown with all the new things happening in the Poptropica universe! 😀

New Mission Atlantis posters

Sam recently posted about the new poster that the Survival info page houses, but along with that, there are two new posters for Mission Atlantis on that island’s info page as well! Check them out below. 😀

Also, I made a new Poptropica-based wallpaper, showing washed up villains after we take their evil. I’ve recorded the making of the poster, and you can check it out along with other speed art here. 🙂

Deleted ad rares

Recently, something happened that was feared for quite a long time — rares from old ads were deleted. Among the deleted items are the Barbie hair, the lion mask, the popcorn suit, the penguin hat, and the Flint Lockwood hair. For some, those were key parts of their costumes, and they’ve been around so long that it’s sad to see them go. The Barbie hair was the most influential, and it was quite a glitch classic. Will we ever see these items again?

Advertisement updates: CapriSun & HTTYD 2

A new advertisement has popped up recently, being for the CapriSun Roarin’ Waters campaign, that I found on Early Poptropica.  When you go inside, you can play either of the two games: Save the Swimmer or Save the Sunbather. For the first, you have to surf out into the ocean to save a swimmer from an octopus, and in the latter, you have to make your way through an obstacle course to save a sunbather from… sun burn. Hmm, which premise sounds more dangerous?

There are a couple of things that are worth mentioning about the ad, not counting the stupid cards that you get for completing the quests, first being the host of the interior ad — if you’re a boy, the host has somewhat straight hair, while if you’re a girl, the host has curly hair and sunglasses. I find that a bit strange, so tell me what you think in the comments!

To finish the first quest concerning the swimmer, click to jump on your surf board, and avoid mean fishies/rocks while boosting your height by touching flying fruit baskets in the grasp of seagull’s claws. (Quite a mouthful, I might add. 😛 )

beachAdQuests

The cool part is that while you’re playing the game, you have a shell in your hand that you blow on to calm the octopus. To keep the shell after you play the game, press ctrl+shift+s to change your skin color and keep the item! Same goes with the second game, where you’ll get a bottle of sunblock. When you press the space bar with the shell equipped, you perform a musical motion, while the sunblock is just presented with pride.

Another ad showcases the upcoming movie How To Train Your Dragon 2, where if you watch a (way too long) trailer for the movie, you get a neat “Toothless Dragon Fire” power. When equipped, it gives you a strange looking smile, and when you press spacebar, fire bellows out from within. If you’re close to someone, it will give them a burnt look — priceless! Although when you think about it, sort of painful.

Tip: Save the mouth to your closet, and after the ad is removed, you will still be able to use the power!

Upcoming island updates

First of all, the fourth episode of Survival’s name has been uncovered: Cabin Fever (unrelated to the Wimpy Kid book. 😛 ). This episode looks like the best one so far, and I’ll be revealing the awesomeness in upcoming Survival Files. 😉 In the meantime, check out this awesome scene:

Changes to the map

With the release of Survival 2, many things are revealed about how they’re going to do things with episodes — but first of all, I want to express my feelings about something… ARRGGG!!! What have they done to the first page of the map?! Obviously, they took the two SUIs from it and moved them to the last page, but why?! It just feels so wrong! And the last page is so squished together now… I’m a long time Poptropica player, and when you start to change the layout in drastic ways like this, I don’t take to the updates very kindly.

I know, it seems sort of ironic since larger updates have been made, e.g. the new map, the Friends feature, etc. But don’t do small things that mess up my orientation! It may seem like a small change, but I’m not happy. 😛 The one thing that I am happy about would be the way that they’re going to be presenting episodes: there are pop up screens that let you choose between episodes — genius!
