The Missing Link: Poptropica Origins (Part 2)

If you haven’t read part 1, go ahead over to that post before reading any further. Seriously, it won’t make much sense. 😛 Also, this post contains island spoilers, so be warned!

Hi Gs,

So, you leave Time Tangled Island. That story is over. You’ve saved the future by fixing the past, and that’s the end of that. But what if it wasn’t?

After Time Tangled, then comes 24 Carrot – right? There seems to be no time difference there… unless you take into consideration that 24 Carrot technically WASN’T the 4th island. Monster Carnival was planned to be the 4th island, and if you’ve played MCI, you’ll remember that the island was based in 1956 – and from what we learned in the previous post, Time Tangled Island was based in 2007.

Monster Carnival on the map

My theory is that the time machine you receive in Time Tangled is the reason for the time period changes that happen frequently throughout the island timeline. If we’re assuming that the islands play out like a story from Early Poptropica to the most recent island, then this explains a lot. But it’s not just assumption.

AstroKnights Island is set in medieval times – another specimen of time travel. During the island you must travel to the moon to get a new rocket from high tech aliens.

Now, travel 600 years in the future, to Lunar Colony Island. This island is presumably in the current time frame. In the island, you travel to the moon in search of a lost scientist. If you’ve played the island, you’ll know that the moon seems to be completely barren except for the moon bases that were man made.

So, what does this mean? If both Astroknights and Lunar Colony were in the same time frame, then we would still see aliens on Lunar Colony! The origin of Poptropica has to do with aliens.

The next part will be coming out soon, and I’ll be touching on Zeus and his part in the grand scheme. Until then,

Blast from the Past

Poptropica Journal – 8/3/11 (9 year old Puterpop!)

Hi Gs – this post is actually a journal entry from way back in 2011. Mystery Train was just announced and I had just started a Poptropica journal. Do note that this is old news, just from the perspective of a 9 year old. I thought it was cute, and I hope you enjoy. :3

Hello.

As you can see on the cover, my name is Andrew. I’m a Poptropica fan. #1 Poptropica fan. Poptropica FANATIC! Now, onto Poptropica. Its a virtual world that, hello teachers, is educational. You make a character, then jump on your blimp, a hot air balloon, and travel to an island in need of help. You save it with logic and FOCUS!!!

poptropicaJournal

Now, updates. Mystery Train island is the new Island coming soon. It’s about, you guessed it, a train robbery.

A new before-island mini game “sneak peak” is coming soon too, for Mystery Train. It takes place in an old fashioned restaurant. I’m guessing you have to cater to customers as fast as you can!

Another thing: E! Also known as Evil inc. Sharkboy posted a video on the Creator’s blog: Coming soon to Poptropica – E – September 2011??? I found out it’s based on a comic with superheroes, with mutant robots and stuff.

The Missing Link

The Missing Link: Dinosaurs (Poptropica Origins part 1)

Hi Gs,

Preface: this post has been setting in drafts for months, and while the idea was there, I didn’t have a strong enough theory. I’ve discovered something since then, and it may just change the history of Poptropica forever. The President of Poptropica recently stated that they were going to be releasing an origin story of Poptropica soon… and this may tap into that story. It’s a really big thing to explain, so I’m splitting this into parts. Come back soon for part 2! 😀

Something occurred to me the other day – Time Tangled Island never had dinosaurs! One of the most iconic and one of the first islands there ever was, Time Tangled had time periods from nearly all the eras – except one of the most important eras of all — the dinosaur era! Doesn’t that seem a bit strange?

But that’s not the end of it. An old Daily Pop has even more evidence that a Dinosaur island was planned. Multiple cavemen costume ideas were posted, and from that point on multiple signs have popped up all around the game.

It ended there with hints cropping up of the island for years, but with the recent release of Mission Atlantis Episode 3, we see the dinosaurs once again. The story involves the extinction of the dinosaurs by a meteor shower that crashed the alien ship that you’ve been exploring. That’s basically all we get, but the fact that they’re associating dinosaurs with aliens is the part where things get interesting.

dino1

Aliens have been a part of Poptropica for ages as I’ve discussed before – Nabooti Island, Astro-Knights, Lunar Colony, and now Mission Atlantis.

There was a separate theory going around in the community a while back, on the chronological order of islands – were they random, were they all connected, or is each island in a separate universe? Sponsored islands aside, I believe that they are all in the same universe.

You’re probably wondering how I explain the time differences between islands, such as the hop between Reality TV Island to Mythology Island. It sounds unbelievable, until you take into consideration the very first islands…

Early Poptropica transitions to Shark Tooth with no apparent time gap. Then Shark Tooth transistions to Time Tangled with a corresponding character in both islands! No question there, they’re in the same time period.

Let’s look into this a little more though. In Early Poptropica, there is an arcade with arcade games. Arcade games came into play in the 1970s and 80s. The games in arcade, however, are games like Sudoku and Switch. If you read up on it, you’ll learn that Sudoku only became successful in 2005. If you read the plaque about Professor Hammerhead in the tourist center in Shark Tooth Island, it says that he died in 1997 (which we learned later isn’t true).

dino4

Also note the text on the plaques – Professor Hammerhead discovered this island and its ruins. By this time, the island seems to be inhabited by tons of citizens.

The inventor of the time machine you use in Time Tangled is taking a vacation on Shark Tooth, according the the newspaper on Time Tangled (also he’s standing in the Tourist Center 😛 ). The general time of all three islands is around the time Poptropica first started, 2007.

dino5

It starts to change after you leave Time Tangled Island.

I’ll be explaining more in posts to come – tell me your theories in the comments below! I really think I’ve hit the nail on the head for this one, tell me what you think. 😀

Realms

Poptropica Realms is now out!

Hi Gs,

The Creators have just released the new Poptropica feature “Realms” – which is basically Poptropica Land, but now with separate worlds and an apparent universe that is yours to do what you want with. Check out the PHB’s Realms guide for an in-depth look on this new feature!

Don’t worry, non-members won’t have long to wait (update: it’s now open to all!). You can check out the new feature for yourself over on Poptropica, as well as this first look in the video below:

UPDATE: According to Poptropica’s Twitter, 1000+ Realms were created and 7000+ scenes were saved just in the first evening of the launch! They also tweeted this sneak peek of hats based on the various biomes, possibly coming soon…

There are 7 biomes (Forest, Snow/Ice, Desert, Swamp, Lunar, Fire, Crystal) – the latter two are members-only and the latter four are new. Each has its own ambient soundtrack (no more chirping bird noises!); plus, you can listen to the awesome main theme on Jeff Heim’s soundcloud:

Galactic Hot Dogs Island

Galactic new Store items & island extras!

Hi Gs,

As of now, you can grab a couple of new Galactic Hot Dogs Island bonus items in the Store. The “F.R.E.D. Follower” is now available, free for everyone. The arm sort of overlaps your character when you’re standing still, but it’s still a cool follower and makes me wonder if you’ll have F.R.E.D. as a follower in the actual island as well, considering he’s a helping robot in the comic.

The second item is a “Galactic Space Suit“, which is for members only. I do like the torso piece – it looks cool with the red theme I’m rocking on my Poptropican at the moment.

Members can also print out a GHD poster with their character alongside Cosmoe, Humphree, and Princess Dagger by getting the printable poster in the Store.

Finally, everyone can download the free GHD desktop wallpaper from the official Galactic Hot Dogs Island tour page!

Anyway, tell me in the comments what you think about the upcoming GHD Island. And if you want to get caught up on GHD-related stuff, check out the GHD post category here on the PHB.
