Poptropica: Legends

Orb Legend Update Post – game mechanics

Hi Gs,

Nearly a month ago, I announced the beginning of a colossal project – an RPG titled “Orb Legend“, following the adventures of Meridian Sinker and his many friends. My awesome team and I have been working long and hard on it since then, and I’m excited to share some updates below. 🙂

Soundtrack

The soundtrack for the game is currently being produced by Taitoki (Kat), an amazing digital musician! She’s created leitmotifs for a bunch of the main characters, and themes for all the locations you’ll be visiting during your journey. We nearly have the entire soundtrack for the first chapter of the game, and Taitoki has released a few demo tracks on her SoundCloud so you can get a taste of the action. The complete album will be available for purchase on Bandcamp upon release.

Cutscenes

Throughout the game, cutscenes will periodically play. These will feature more lovely music by Kat, voice acting from a number of talented actors, and amazing art by Feng Janelle. Check out some of her art for the game trailer below.

Sidequests

On every island that Meridian visits, he always happens to meet the Scavenger. No one really knows where she came from, but strangely enough, she knows everyone. Returning to her every once in awhile during a chapter will prompt certain sidequests that are subplots of the main quest. This exciting new feature will provide a much more immersive experience and make Poptropica even more real.

Story

We’ve been pretty secretive about the story so far – and that’s for a reason – but I feel that in order to get you guys excited as we are, I need to spill some beans. As previously mentioned, there will be 6 books, each with around 4 chapters. Each book covers a character arc and a certain facet of the Poptropica universe. The first book, “The Winged Revolution”, mainly covers the existence of dimensions in the Poptropica universe – and the character arc is trust!

wingedChapters

Each of those symbols represents one of the chapters of the Winged Revolution: Dimensional Warp, Animal Island, Dreamy Island, and The Golden Egg.

The first of these, Dimensional Warp, is the one that we’re planning on releasing by mid-year. Here’s a synopsis written by Giant Hawk:

The world of Poptropica is one unlike any other; filled with magic, art, technology, and adventure. But for top BHP adventurer Meridian Sinker, one world isn’t enough. He’s been searching for resolution all his life, and among the top questions he wants answers to is the secret of travel between dimensions. Unbeknownst to Meridian Sinker, however, a seemingly average monster containment mission is all it’ll take for him to finally start getting answers. But with said answers come even more uncertainty. Who can Meridian Sinker trust? Does dimensional travel have negative effects? Only one thing is for sure – this is only the beginning…

I hope all of this excites you as much as it does me! Prepare for wacky characters, insane stakes, and puzzling situations.

I’m going to stop posting these large updates on the PHB, so please go follow us on the Orb Legend Development blog. There’s so much more I want to reveal, and I couldn’t fit it all into one article! Also, follow us on Twitter! We tweet sneak peaks all the time.

Photo booths, panoramas, and panda-moneum

Hey guys, my name is Brave Tomato and here’s my first update post since… Pelican Rock was revealed to be surprise-released later that day… okay, sorry I haven’t posted much. Being a senior in high school is fun.

Well back to the point of the post. As of Tuesday, the Photo Booth is now available on the iOS Poptropica app! Now, anywhere you can get decent reception in the world, you can put your mobile characters and other well known characters on a screen together making up poses, props, and all sorts of hijinks. Sorry, the update is not available for Amazon and Android users yet, but it will be soon!

In other news, something interesting had been found in the past two Daily Pops:

… And all of a sudden I feel like a bunch of eyes are looking right at me through the computer screen. Don’t worry, the “Olympus has Risen” one is not what you think, evidenced by the next day’s “Bloon” Daily Pop. This feels like it would be an updated version of an Island Tour video or clip or whatever, giving close-ups of island icons and such. There are comparisons to storyboards not too unlike when they were preparing the Shark Tooth animation. (Speaking of which, what happened to Poptropica TV?)

Finally, the Creators are using their social media connections to create a different kind of advertising – for Kung Fu Panda 3. Players are encouraged to go into the Home Island arcade (common room) wearing the Baby Pandas headpiece, and Pop Creator Skinny Moon will be grabbing screenshots and posting them on Poptropica’s social media. Here’s a tweet with several of the pics she took:

You can find more pics like this on Poptropica’s Twitter feed now, and keep an eye there for if/when Skinny Moon announces when she’ll be in the common room! If you’d like to get in on the action, just know she’s been practicing her head-to-head gaming and has so far achieved a 2-star battle ranking.

So that’s just about what’s new in Poptropica! Smile with those cubs for the camera, snap a Photo Booth pic, and get ready to see another new perspective on the world of Poptropica!

BT out!

Jungle mysteries, monkeys, elves, and more!

Hey Poptropicans!

Poptropica’s been a bit quiet lately, and even the Daily Pop has less sneak peeks this month than usual. Still, there are some pretty interesting pics hinting at what’s to come:

That’s quite a bit to take in! Are the monkeys and jungle scenes related, and if so, might they be part of the new tutorial island the Creators are working on? At least we think the hot air balloon is.

Also, looks like a Photo Booth is coming to Mystery of the Map (MotM) Island – presumably with the release of the print version of the graphic novel, expected this March! And what’s with the MotM fort with dodos? Plus, why does the left character in “Terra Firma” look suspiciously similar to an original character design by Poptropica player Bony Hopper?? The mysteries are many.

Check out the PHB’s Daily Pop Sneak Peek Archive for more sneak peeks!

Earlier this week, the Creators also tweeted out these planning sketches from the Twisted Thicket Island files. Check out all those fancy curls and leafy bits. Which elf design is your favorite?

On a different note, we have a new page on the PHB under the Cool Stuff tab: Overview of Poptropica Glitching! Whether you consider yourself an experienced glitcher or have no idea what that means, this article will give you an overview of what exactly goes on in the underground world of Poptropica glitching for awesome account alterations. Check it out!

PMFM (Poptropican Meme Face Mondays)

Poptropican Meme Face Mondays: Round 10

Heyyo Poptropicans, it’s Ultimate iPad Expert here.

TheJudgesAreIn-10thEpisode

10 outta 10 would meme again. Welcome to round ten of PMFM (Poptropican Meme Face Mondays)!

PMFM-Round10

This episode is a very special one! To celebrate PMFM’s 10th round, I’m opening PMFM up for seconds! If you’ve received a meme face already and are craving more, this is your chance. But don’t fret, it’ll stay fair for first timers. Seconds will be placed after all of the first time submissions, and will only receive theirs when all of the first time submissions have been released already. But let’s get to the memes!

The lucky meme-faced Poptropicans this week are Daniel Zamarripa, Red Lizard, and Yuri Addis! And here are the memes:

Feel free to click on the images to view them in their full glory. 😛

Want your own meme face?

Well, it’s simple. Comment on the most recent PMFM post (just choose the one of the list here). Be sure to follow the criteria below:

  • Very crucial: Wear the outfit you want to have in the meme face on Poptropica and keep it on for at least a week.
  • As mentioned, find the most recent PMFM post (it will be at the top of this list)
  • Include your Poptropican username in a comment.
  • Include the meme face you would like on your Poptropican in your comment (a link to an image of the meme is very preferred).
  • Post your comment and wait! (PMFM is operated on a first come-first serve basis, so your meme face will come after all of the ones before are released).
  • Just a note: You do not need to re-comment on newer posts if you haven’t gotten yours yet. Once I reply to your comment mentioning “You being added to the list,” then I have seen your comment and added it to my literal list, so yours will be made after each one before is made.

This completes round ten of meme faces. Tune in next Monday for the next Poptropican Meme Face Mondays!

What do you think about this week’s meme faces? Comment below.

My Place in Poptropica

My Place in Poptropica: Mad Apper

This is the My Place in Poptropica story of Mad Apper, an avid player of the Poptropica mobile app. See the bottom of this post for details on sending in your own MPIP!

MPIP-MadApper

Skip the intro. Let’s do this.

Are you surprised to see me? Or perhaps you don’t know who I am? Well, that’s what this post is for. Today, I’ve been given the great opportunity to tell you a bit about my past, present, and future in Poptropica history. The dates aren’t precise, but somewhat accurate. I’m Mad Apper, and this is my place in Poptropica.

The Summer of 2014 | The Discovery

I think it was June or July. I was bored, and didn’t have a lot to do. I was 14, at the time, and my older brother told me about Funbrain. I checked it out and played a game. It seemed, well, boring. I think I clicked an ad, category, or something, and BOOM- Poptropica.

Late 2014 to Early 2015 | Community & More Discovery

For the rest of that time, I got a bit into Poptropica. Multiple accounts, even! My current (rarely active) Poptropica account is madapper500, just putting that out there. I read the Poptropica Help Blog, Slippery Raptor’s Blog, and that was it. It was Early 2015 that I downloaded the Poptropica App. I hardly used my online Pop account since then. My computer’s really glitchy. 😛

Mid 2015 | PHB Reader Anonymous

First, I was a PHB stalker. Then, eventually a commenter. I gave the PHB one or two tips. Just about ads. On the Poptropica app. That’s it. I eventually began to comment more. At the time, I actually began to comment about random Poptropica thoughts. I’m pretty sure some of you viewers of the PHB do that too. 😀

September 2015 | The Pop App Blog & My Pen Name

One day, I was scrolling through Poptropica blogs (PHB, Slippery’s, etc.) and wondered what it would be like to have one of my own. I settled on WordPress and became The Mad Apper. Well, to be honest my real name is Ian. Ian’s Poptropica Blog? No. Since I played the Pop app more than the web version, I settled on the name The Poptropica App Blog [poptropicaapp.wordpress.com] since it seemed unique. Plus, everybody has a different definition of ‘apper’, I dubbed myself The Mad APPer.* No need to hurt your fingers using caps lock.

Around this time, I was fame hungry. A bit of me still is. Fine, I still am. I went around knocking on doors asking for stuff. Could you do my banner? Can I be interviewed? Is Poptropica awesome? Believe it or not, they said yes.

Present & Future | Basically Everything

I was working, and still am working, with several Poptropica blog authors. Everything’s happening. I’m also now the administrator of The MEGA Poptropica Blog [megapoptropicablog.wordpress.com]! I’m with the two talented authors of Mighty Gamer and Popular Wolf. I’m also a somewhat minor part of Mighty Gamer’s Poptropica Blog, known as Explore Collect Compete, which you can find at explorecollectcompete.wordpress.com.

As for the future, I plan to make a Poptropica Blogs app, I have some collaborations planned, some pretty big stuff planned for 2016. I don’t want to ruin the surprise. That’s basically all up to this point. Reality is an illusion! The universe is a hologram! Buy gold! Bye!

Oh yeah, I’d also want to thank the entire PHB staff, Mighty Gamer, Popular Wolf, and many more Poptropicans. I’m a nerdy dude that loves to work with people, is part of three Poptropica blogs, is impressed by the Pop community, and is glad to be part of it.

And that’s my place in Poptropica.

*The Mad Apper is not to be confused with App Girl, The Mad Hatter, or the Apper WordPress theme.

Hope you enjoyed this “My Place in Poptropica” story! Feel free to send in your own (please include a minimum of 550 words, type with good spelling and grammar, divide it into labeled sections, and include your username). Look out for more community MPIPs in the future!
