On Inspiration: Snap Stories and Wimpy Stories

Hello everyone! I finally got to a post before LJ or Fishy, aren’t you proud? I know I am because honestly 2016 has had too much horrible stuff happen already. We need some more positives.

Aside from the Carrie Fisher tribute, thankfully, the Creators’ official Snapchat also featured pics on a happier note: some #MyPoptropicaCostume contest entries! Check them out below.

The entries shown include “Sports Vendor” by Fast Lizard, “Diwali Outfit” by Lucky Joker (a PHB author!!!), and “Grunge Girl/Boy” by Spotted Dragon (another PHB author obviously, because that’s me!!!). I can’t really fairly talk about how great my own costume is, but the others are definitely pretty cool. Perhaps they’ll inspire you to enter something into the contest!

Remember that you can create your own outfit that might end up in the actual Poptropica store by posting it on Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #MyPoptropicaCostume, or directly to their Facebook page. Some updates to how the contest will end were mentioned just the other day, so be sure to check that out! The contest ends tomorrow, Dec 31 at midnight EST.

Moving on, we have a story other than that of Snapchat. This one, in contrast, focuses on Diary of a Wimpy Kid in an interview with Jeff Kinney conducted by Raymond Arroyo.

In the first half of the video, starting around 4:14, Poptropica is briefly mentioned, though no significant new information regarding the game was ever touched on. Here is Jeff’s commentary regarding Poptropica:

Poptropica really is a direct descendant of the Uncle Scrooge and Donald Duck books that I read as a kid where Carl Barks, this cartoonist, introduced me to my world. My whole basis of understanding of the world started with those comics – religion, psychology, psychiatry, you know; geology, history, everything came from those comics to start with, and I knew that we had this privilege – the privilege of the responsibility to communicate the kids’ world back to them. And they were reading about, they were experiencing things like Greek mythology for the first time. We had the chance to do that, so that’s why it’s been very edifying, rewarding to know it’s a lot of fun for kids.

The entire interview is mainly about the Wimpy Kid book series and Jeff Kinney’s inspiration for it. Still, if you’re a fan of his work, it’s worth the watch. 😉

And with that my friends, I have to leave you because it is literally 2 am where I am. Goodnight! Good morning!

A poptastic update: #MyPoptropicaCostume Contest

Hello, everyone!

Lucky Joker here, sharing an amazing update regarding the #MyPoptropicaCostume contest!

costume-contest-facebook

In the Creators’ latest post, it was announced that there will be TWO (not one) grand prize winners chosen by the Poptropica Creators. Each grand prize winner will receive a 6-month membership and have their costume sold in the Poptropica store for a limited time. Plus, the winning costumes will be worn by a Poptropican on Home Island.

Not only will there be two grand prize winners, but also ten runner-ups who will be voted by us, the Poptropica community! Twenty costumes will be selected by the creators, and we’ll have to vote for our favorites. The top ten costumes with the most votes will get a 3-month membership and have their costumes also sold in the Poptropica store. In total, we’ll have 12 new costumes from winners!

The deadline to enter this contest is Saturday, December 31, 12am EST, so make sure to enter on Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag (#MyPoptropicaCostume) or post your creation on the official Poptropica Facebook page.

Also, here are some official guidelines and tips from Poptropica:

  • You can use our template (find it here) to draw your outfit. Or draw your Poptropican’s outfit freehand (here’s a guide). Or draw your creation using your computer or tablet. Whatever you want!
  • Use your imagination! Get inspired by your favorite movies or TV shows and put your own original twist on them. Or think about your favorite activities, sports, and hobbies, and base a costume around one of them. Check out your favorite magazines and take a cue from the latest trends. The sky’s the limit!
  • Don’t forget about fun accessories and powers that your costume could have!
  • When you design your costume, be sure it could be reproducible as a Poptropica Costume. Teeny tiny details would be hard to recreate for a store costume.
  • Your costume needs to be an original design of yours, not an assembly of current Poptropica costume parts.
  • Three entries maximum per person!
  • Give your costume a name and put your Poptropican’s name on it, and if you want, your age. Do not include your last name or where you live. For example, your entry could say something like “Winter Fun Outfit by Happy Catfish, age 14.”

(Be sure to read the full contest rules for a better understanding!)

I think this update is fantastic, since there are so many creative and talented Poptropicans in this community! What do you think? Let me know in the comment section below.

In other (sadder) news, as you may have heard, Star Wars’ Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) passed away at age 60 the other day. As a tribute to Carrie, Poptropica has made some posts on social media – you can see the snapchats below. (Thanks to Brave Tomato and Teen Arachnid for the pics.) It looks like their Snapchat name is back to being “Official Poptropica” as well.

Well, I’ll talk to you all soon. Pop on!

Middle School is fecal. Check out this decal!

Hello, everyone!

Lucky Joker here, sharing with you, an awesome ad along with a new snap from the Poptropica Creators! Let’s pop right into it, shall we?

This is an ad for the movie Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life based off the book. We’ve seen this advertised in the past, but it has reappeared because of the DVD release and soon-to-be Blu-Ray release on January 3rd, 2017. In addition to that, there are also new prizes to be earned!

As for finding the ad, I had a difficult time trying to do so, but hopefully you won’t have as much trouble. I found the ad on Early Poptropica Island, so hopefully that helps. 😉

Upon entering the ad, you’ll see Rafe, who’ll invite you in. Go inside and talk to Rafe, who has covered the entire hallway with sticky notes! Shortly after talking to Rafe, Principle Dwight will come running along, and a game will load onto your screen.

The objective of the game is simple and its concept is pretty similar to the Pete’s Dragon adYou simply have to click and drag your mouse to the right of the screen to run, and jump over the obstacles – book, chairs and sporting equipment that are casually lying around in the hallway.

Once you’ve run and jumped long enough, you’ll reach the end point of the hallway. Assuming Principle Dwight has been completely wiped out through all of that, you’ll win the Tricky Chicken and the Slime Gun cards! Congratulations!

Moving on now, Poptropica’s social media manager, Skinny Moon, is back to snapchatting (@PoptropicaSC) and has added this cool snap to her story:

PoptropicaSC.png

The Poptropica Creators sure do love zombies, as seen in Poptropica’s HQ tour.

Plus, the Snapchat name has been changed from Official Poptropica to Popgirljess, which is Skinny Moon’s Poptropica username. And if you’re on Instagram, you can find snaps on Poptropica’s story there, too.

In other news, the Poptropica Creators have wished all of us Poptropicans a happy holidays and restful break from school (which I so desperately need) in their latest blog post – how kind! Another interesting thing about the post is that there are two Poptropica Creators, Skinny Moon and Captain Crawfish, labeled below the post – neato!

Perhaps the most interesting part is this last statement:

“Here at Poptropica we’re not taking TOO much of a break, though. Next week we’re going to have some very interesting stuff to talk about on the blog… so stay tuned!”

What do you think they mean by this? Perhaps the creators are hinting at New Poptropica! Maybe some sneak peeks, more information or even its release? It seems unlikely, but maybe a holiday miracle will soon occur…?

Happy holidays and thanks for reading! Pop on!

Snap up your LEGO Moana Mania!

Hey Poptropicans!

As if a Home Island makeover and advertisement building for the Disney animated film Moana wasn’t enough, there is now another Moana ad – but not just any Moana – LEGO Moana! (Oh, you thought we were done with that Moana mania, didn’t you. Well, try piecing this one together.)

This one is just a video, which will give you a Crazy Kakamora. When equipped, pressing the spacebar will launch a bunch of Kakamora LEGO heads on your screen! (Thanks to G-Hopper for the pictures!)

In other news, Poptropica is back at it with their Snapchatting! Earlier this week, Skinny Moon (who runs all of Poptropica’s social media) posted a snap of herself in her Poptropica-decked home office with a bunny filter from Snapchat, in honor of Dr. Hare (of course!). Plus, she’s updated the profile pic, which was part of a fan drawing by Maryann P. Looking good!

There have also been a few other snaps in her Snapchat story lately, including her Christmas tree, Toby the #PoptropicaPup, and her scrolling through entries for the #MyPoptropicaCostume contest on Instagram and Twitter and encouraging everyone to join (with her voice!).

Skinny Moon was also hanging around the Home Island Arcade common room earlier today, as seen in this tweet:

And here on the PHB, we’ve had quite a few fun guest posts lately, which we think you should definitely check out! If you have something Poptropica-related you’d like to share with the community, we encourage you to send it along to us and your writing may be featured in a future guest post!

Check out our recent guest posts below:

And while we wait for more news, be sure to enter the official #MyPoptropicaCostume contest! The deadline is coming up in about three weeks (December 31st), and remember, you can have up to 3 entries! Check out our post on this contest for more details.

Stay popping,

Poptropica Pup, Contest Idea, and Code Winner!

Hey Poptropicans!

Last week, Skinny Moon posted several pics on Poptropica’s Snapchat (@PoptropicaSC), which you can check out below. Unlike Poptropica’s other social media, snaps disappear after 24 hours (as do Instagram Stories, also below), so we’ve saved them for more permanent viewing!

Of special interest is Toby, Skinny Moon’s pet dog, and the designated Poptropica Pup! The last two pics are from the Stories feature on Instagram, and the one of Toby is captioned: It’s tough being a Poptropica Creator’s dog and having to stay inside while she works. #Toby #bored #walkme #sorrybuddy

Cute right? The other is a reminder that if you’re entering the #MyPoptropicaCostume contest, your account needs to be public, not private.

Keep up with the latest by following them on the ‘gram (@poptropicaCreators)!

Speaking of Skinny Moon, earlier today, she popped into the PHC for a quick chat with those who were around! It started around 4pm Eastern time and she started with a “Hi everyone!” and “What’s going on with you guys? USA Poptropicans getting excited for Thanksgiving break?”

Some people shared their plans for the holiday, to which she responded, “Yay for vacation!!!” Here are a few more fun Q&As that occurred:

idk: Do the Poptropica creators get time off for Thanksgiving/Christmas? There are some jobs that don’t allow it. (Well, unless they gather vacation time earned from working.)
Skinny Moon: We do! Lots of people take extra days off, too. I am taking the whole week off!

idk: It was said somewhere in a Creator’s blog post that the New Poptropica would release “by the end of this year”. Is that still going to happen?
Skinny Moon: I can’t get into specifics, sorry! I really wish I could!

(Hmm… looks like the Creators are no longer positive that New Poptropica will be ready by the time originally planned. Hopefully the wait won’t be too long…)

idk: In your opinion, who is the meme king/queen?
Skinny Moon: Oh, jeez, I don’t know!

(The PHB declares Ultimate iPad Expert our resident Meme King. Of all other Poptropica spheres and female cultural image monarchs, we cannot comment.)

jester noveenʳᵉᵏᵗ: skinny moon what did you have for lunch today
Skinny Moon: I realllllly need to go grocery shopping so I had boring leftovers from dinner last night. :ill~1:

But the main point of her visit came in the form of an idea she proposed: “So here’s a question. If I launched a contest where you had to record your gameplay in Poptropica (for like 10 seconds), would you do it? Would you know how to do it?” adding, “If you have a Mac you can use Quicktime.” People gave mixed responses, but personally, I think it’s a creative idea to integrate into a contest!

She also asked, “Are you all going to enter the #MyPoptropicaCostume contest?” – implying that yes, you should! You can find out more details about the contest in this post.

Skinny Moon stayed for about 20 minutes, wrapping up with, “Okay, I have to run. Have a great rest of the day everyone!” So, everyone, if you like chatting with Poptropicans and getting surprise visits from a Creator, you should definitely join the PHC! 😉

In other news, it’s time for me to announce the winner for my Dr. Hare toy code giveaway from my Poptropica Package post! The randomly selected winner is MariotropicaX, who said his favorite Store item was the Legendary Swords card, which is a mini-quest that was sadly removed earlier this year.

Mario, be sure to check your email for the prize code. Thanks to everyone who left a comment on this giveaway! 😀 Be sure to check out the #MyPoptropicaCostume contest as well for even more fun.

Keep on popping on, Poptropicans!
